Drake Shares Condolences After Sotto Sotto’s Legendary Momma Laura Passes Away

It’s no secret that Drake reps his hometown of Toronto as much as anyone. Throughout his career, he’s dropped reference after reference to the city in dozens and dozens of songs. He also became a de facto mascot for the Toronto Raptors during their legendary 2019 NBA championship run. But his love for the city really does run deep and he proved it with a recent Instagram story post where he showed love to a local business owner who tragically passed away.

Drizzy shared a post from Toronto restaurant Sotto Sotto announcing the bad news. The post explains that Momma Laura, the owner, founder, and public face of the restaurant, has passed away. It confirms that the restaurant will close for a day later this week to honor her and concludes by saying that she “will be forever missed.” Drake added onto the post with a caption of his own showing love to the restaurant owner. “Our deepest condolences from the OVO family” his additional caption reads. Check out the story post he shared below.

Drake Pays Tribute To Momma Laura

Drake’s beef with Kendrick Lamar was the biggest story in rap music this year. While it seems to have died down following the rapid fire weekend that saw multiple diss tracks dropped one after another, that hasn’t stopped discussion over the spat. Recently, Boosie Badazz claimed that while the two rappers may be done, they can’t control their respective crews. He claimed that the people surrounding both Drizzy and Kendrick were likely to escalate things to physical violence at some point, even if that’s not what the pair want. Since he made those comments though, there hasn’t been any new noise in the beef.

What do you think of Drake tributing a local Toronto restaurant owner who passed away? Do you think he will take a break from releasing new music for a while now that his beef with Kendrick Lamar is over? Let us know in the comment section below.

Cam’ron Flees New York Amid City’s “Disgusting” Rat Problem

Cam’ron says he had to leave New York City after spending just a few short hours in his hometown due to the city’s “disgusting” rat problem. Venting about the situation in a video on social media, he explained that he’s “too old” to still be dealing with the issue that’s plagued the city for decades.

“I just left New York. That sh*t was disgusting,” he said while recording himself on a boat. “Out there for two and a half hours and I booked a flight. I can’t do this sh*t. I love this city. I’m coming back in the summer for about a week or two. I put my time in with them rats and roaches. They still haven’t fixed the rat problem. Still! I can’t do rats no more. I’m too old for rats. What I look like getting out my car with my feet jumping around, doing all this sh*t when I get out the car ’cause a rat is there. I’m sick of that sh*t. I’m not apologizing for it neither. I ain’t even gonna act like I’m sorry for it a little bit.”

The DMV area’s All Things Go festival is expanding to New York City. The long-running festival has announced its Big Apple lineup, which will be headlined by Janelle Monáe, Renée Rapp, and Muna. The festival will take over Forest Hills Stadium in Queens on September 28-29 — the same weekend as the usual festival in Columbia, Maryland — with just one stage so there will be no overlapping set times.

The All Things Go festival was founded in 2014 first held at the Union Market in Washington, DC. In 2018, it had its first all-women lineup, and it has continued to pursue the goal of gender parity in the festival industry since, with the 2019 lineup dedicating a full day to women performers and women-led bands. The New York lineup clearly aims to continue that tradition, with a slew of woman-fronted acts, including breakout artists like Chappelle Roan.

The presale starts on Thursday, June 12, at 10 AM. You can find more information at All Things Go festival’s website. See below for the full lineup.

Rihanna fans have been waiting for a new album for a very long time. It’s been a full 8 years since she dropped her last studio album Anti back in 2016. But with one reveal after another, RiRi seemed to be focusing on absolutely anything other than music. Most recently, she got fans hyped up for a potential announcement of new music. Instead she revealed that there’s a new hair care line coming to her Fenty beauty brand.

But now Rihanna may actually be rounding the corner towards new music after all. With a candor she doesn’t typically offer when discussing potential new music, she recently shared a positive update. “now I’m prepared to go back in the studio, so now I’m gonna start” she said during a recent event for the newly announced hair care line. Ice Spice’s Manager Reveals How Her Meteoric Rise To Fame Came Together

Ice Spice’s manager, James Rosemond Jr., recently spoke with Billboard about the viral New York artist’s rise to fame. In doing so, he revealed how he discovered her, decided to help market her, and more. He began by revealing that “No Clarity” was one of the first songs he heard from her.

“It was her tone and the production she was picking,” he explained, citing what stood out about her. “When I came across her early on, she only had about two or three songs out. She didn’t have the crazy monthly listeners and social numbers. Then I came across a song called ‘No Clarity,’ a drill flip of Zedd’s ‘Clarity,’ and heard the song’s possibilities. Next, I heard ‘Name of Love.’ One, she’s working with the same producer [RIOTUSA] and they’re creating a sound. Two, her tone, and three, they’re flipping these crossover samples in drills. That got me. Then I saw her image — the curls, which was different — and I’m like, ‘Whoa!’”

Ice Spice Attends Alexander Wang Runway Show

As for their marketing strategy, Rosemond Jr. brought up her breakout single, “Munch.” He continued: “Coming out of the gate, it was always three-dimensional chess. ‘Less is more’ was our conversation and ‘Let’s not saturate.’ Strategically, it was also about digital. When we put ‘Munch’ out, we got the right digital team, which was Create Music Group. Its sister companies include WorldStar and Genius. I never want to feel like an artist is on a treadmill. I always want them to feel like they’re moving forward from A to C, C to E. So I did a strategic play on the digital side to accelerate her growth, social and in the market. ‘Munch’ was everywhere that first week we put it out. And that was due to the strategic play that I was able to put together using the song as currency.”

The interview comes as Spice prepares for the release of her debut studio album, Y2K! The project is set to drop on July 26, 2024. Be on the lookout for further updates on Ice Spice on HotNewHipHop.

Why Is Young Thug’s Lawyer Brian Steel Going To Jail?

After being removed from the courtroom and found in contempt of court by Judge Ural Glanville yesterday, Young Thug’s defense attorney Brian Steel has been sentenced to 20 days in jail. According to local news, Steel was found in contempt of court after confronting the judge about a secret meeting with another defendant and requesting a transcript of the meeting’s minutes.

When Glanville instead questioned Steel how he found out about the meeting, Steel refused to answer, prompting Glanville to have him taken into custody. He ordered Steel to be held at Fulton County Jail for 20 days. In order to continue working on the case, they’ll all be served on weekends. Steel promised to appeal the contempt decision, but asked that he be allowed to spend his sentence with his client Thug, so that they could continue to work on the case — a request the judge granted.

News of the finding drew criticism both online and at the courtroom itself, with a number of lawyers protesting and demanding a mistrial. Steel’s wife and law partner, Colette Resnick Steel, filed the appeal along with a motion for bond.

Young Thug is on trial for alleged violations of Georgia’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act. The state alleges that Thug is the leader of a criminal organization, YSL, operating under the guise of a record label. Prosecutors say YSL is responsible for a crime wave across Atlanta, including murder, assault, robbery, and drug dealing.

Sexyy Red Caught On Surveillance Footage Wielding A Stand During Massive Airport Brawl

Sexyy Red revealed this past weekend that she had been arrested and subsequently released while in Newark, New Jersey. Overall, her arrest had to do with an alleged brawl that took place at the Newark Liberty International Airport. According to TMZ, her crew got into a fight with another group of people, which led to some assault charges. Furthermore, some of the injured parties in the fight had to go to the hospital to have their minor injuries treated.

Since the fight, surveillance footage from the airport has been obtained by TMZ. In the clip below, you can see that Sexyy Red is in the thick of things. Interestingly enough, she even picks up a metal stand from off the ground and uses it in a threatening manner. The artist even waves the pole around before being pulled away from the mess. Based on the footage, Sexyy Red didn’t hit anyone, although there is no telling what could have happened off camera.

Sexyy Red In A Bit Of Trouble

Sexyy Red seems to be taking all of this quite seriously. We know that because she ended up taking to social media after the fight as a means to reach out to those she fought against. In her social media post, she offered to help replace one of the phones that was destroyed during the battle. It is a nice gesture, and we hope that both sides are able to resolve this in a peaceful manner, once and for all.

Let us know what you think about this developing story, in the comments section down below. Do you believe that this is a bad look for Sexyy Red? How do you feel about her come-up and the seemingly overnight success she found with “Pound Town” and “SkeeYee?” Additionally, stay tuned to HNHH for the latest news and updates from around the music world. Enchanting Receives Prayers As Those Close To The Artist Give An Update On Her Condition

Enchanting has been receiving countless supportive messages on social media following her recent hospitalization. A woman identified as her sister confirmed that she was in the hospital on life support on Facebook, Monday. “She’s still fighting, she’s not dead… I’m here at the hospital. My sister is not dead,” she wrote in one post, refuting rumors to the contrary. It’s unclear what led to her hospitalization. In a post caught by The Neighborhood Talk on Monday night, JhonnieDamnD requested fans keep Enchanting in their prayers.

In the comments section, users did just that. “God, I asked that you restore life in this young lady body bring her back to her family and friends. In Jesus name we pray amen,” one user wrote. Enchanting signed to Gucci Mane’s 1017 record label back in 2020 at just 22 years old. She dropped her debut project with the imprint, No Luv, in 2022. Earlier this year, she appeared on Campaign Reezo’s single, “Because of You.” Speaking with the Dallas Observer in 2023, she explained her love for making music. “I feel like music was always something that was easy for me,” she said at the time. “I felt like I was musically inclined, always. It was something that I thought should probably put more time and effort into, because it was natural, you know, instead of trying to force a talent.”

Victoria Monét Honors Janet Jackson And Puts On A Shimmering Spectacle In Her ‘Alright’ Video

In two months, Victoria Monét will celebrate the one-year anniversary of her debut album Jaguar II. The era attached to that album is far from over as “Alright” was recently enlisted as the fourth single from the album, joining “Smoke,” “Party Girls,” and the Grammy-nominated “On My Mama.” As if that wasn’t enough, Monét has also answered fans’ numerous request for an “Alright” music video. The Kaytranada-produced track finally received the visual treatment in an absolute spectacle that Monét used to honor Janet Jackson with dance moves undeniably inspired by the legendary singer’s 1990s and 2000s era. Look no further than the black-and-white fedora and suit that Monét dons in the visual.

The video was directed by Dave Myers and choreographed by Sean Bankhead who is also responsible for the choreography in Monét’s “On My Mama” video. Aside from the Janet Jackson-inspired moves, Monét is nothing short of dazzling in the “Alright” video. She brings the fire and bears the elements and some skin in the three-minunte performance that should go down as one of the best visuals of the year.

Monét’s video for “Alright” is hopefully a sign of her return to good health after she was forced to cancel multiple festival performances last month. They included Philadelphia’s Roots Picnic and this past weekend’s Governors Ball in New York. “Candidly I have been dealing with some ongoing health issues that have to be addressed right now, but I will be back out there soon, that’s a promise!” Monét said in a statement at the time. “Please know it wasn’t an easy call but it’s definitely for the best. All other shows are still moving forward as planned. See you soon.”

Monét’s next performances will take place at Broccoli City in July and Lollapalooza Chicago, Outside Lands, and Victoria Park London in August.

You can watch the “Alright” video above.

Jaguar II is out now via RCA Records/Lovett Music, Inc. Find out more information here.
