Kendrick Lamar & His Security Arrive At Compton City Hall For “Not Like Us” Music Video Shoot

More and more clips are emerging of Kendrick Lamar’s time in Compton to shoot the “Not Like Us” music video, and they’re making fans even more hyped up. He and his security detail arrived at Compton’s City Hall to film another part of the visual treatment, and it’s unclear whether or not the shoot will continue this weekend or if they already got everything. Either way, we can’t remember the last time there was this much hype around a music video, but we’re glad to see it. Probably should’ve dropped it earlier in the song’s hype cycle, but we’re not complaining about the tardiness.

Furthermore, this also lines up with Kendrick Lamar’s “The Pop Out,” the Juneteenth L.A. show that has some people feeling mind-blown and others acting underwhelmed. For one, DJ Akademiks recently shared his opinion that both Drake and J. Cole have put on better concerts and multi-artist events in their cities than K.Dot. Given how different each show’s lineup, context, and intent is, it’s not really a shocker to claim any of them as your favorite or as the most significant one. Still, it feels like most folks just can’t find a balance between praising this as one of the greatest recent hip-hop moments or as a complete embarrassment and failure; it’s not that deep.

Kendrick Lamar Takes “Not Like Us” To Compton City Hall

In addition, Kendrick Lamar’s alleged entourage has also provided some interesting insights and occasional tea-spilling when it comes to some narratives around his moves. For example, an alleged close friend spoke out against The Game and his statement on why he didn’t attend “The Pop Out.” The friend suggested that the Los Angeles MC displayed some disrespect and “had to choose his words carefully.” It’s all a mystery and very vague, but it will fade in time.

Meanwhile, the increased security presence at this music video shoot also caused some backlash, for reasons unknown to anyone with common sense. Whether or not Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” music video is a hit or a dud, it will probably (and hopefully) mark the end of his battle with Drake. Maybe things flare up again with a second match in the future, or there’s more to tussle over. But it seems unlikely that the Toronto superstar will bother to concern himself with this, and we hope both opponents move on already.

Azealia Banks Shares Her Honest Thoughts On Latto

Azealia Banks went on a lengthy rant about Latto and the backlash she’s received during her career in several posts on X (formerly Twitter), on Saturday morning. After discussing her hatred for Lorde, Charli XCX, and more pop artists, Banks gave fans her candid thoughts on Latto.

“She is really missing out on so much iconicness by not being “mulatto,’” she began in response to one user. “2nd off, for all that social backlash and for people to be dumb enough not to realize her name is still Mulatto but abbreviated should prove that they stupid internet anger addicts.” In a second post, she added: “Who are not as socially insightful as they think they are and made all that ruckus just to get hoodwinked. PLUS IS HER CALLING HERSELF MULATTO AT ALL EVEN SLIGHTLY AS DENIGRATING And DETRIMENTAL AS BLACK ARTISTS CALLING THEMSELVES AND THEIR PEERS N*****S ALL DAY?????????????????”

From there, she concluded: “NO one had any reason to come for her. It was stupid, it was hyocritical, stressful and delusional to come down on her so hard. If her whiteness was the issue, why are they okay with use of the N word in her songs??? PLEASE BE MULATTO ITS EPIC SIS.” From there, fans requested Banks’ thoughts on Ariana Grande, Ice Spice, and many more artists. Check out the entirety of her rant on X below.

DJ Akademiks Causes Uproar By Putting Drake’s “OVO Fest” Above Kendrick Lamar’s “The Pop Out”

DJ Akademiks says that both Drake and J. Cole have been putting on festivals bigger for their respective cities in the form of OVO Fest and Dreamville Fest than Kendrick Lamar did with his acclaimed latest show, The Pop Out – Ken & Friends. He made the comments during a livestream clip he shared on social media, on Saturday.

“None of these n****s up here got a feature with Kendrick,” Akademiks began, while showing a clip from the end of The Pop Out. “And we don’t think they will ever get a feature with Kendrick. He has one concert in 15 years and brought these n****s on stage and n****s is saying he did the most.” From there, he brings up J. Cole hosting his Dreamville Festival and platforming younger artists as well as Drake doing the same with OVO Fest.

Many fans in the replies took issue with Akademiks’ take. One user wrote: “OVO Fest is not the same as the POP Out, the POP Out was West Coast honoring their identity, their fallen soldiers, and respecting each other’s differences and similarities of being the West Coast culture. It was also retaliation to a colonizer insulting their legends.” Another fan added: “Yall Drake n****s don’t know how to take an L and move on.” Check out Akademiks’ full comments on the matter below.

DJ Akademiks Speaks On Kendrick Lamar’s “The Pop Out”

Akademiks isn’t the first one to compare Lamar’s The Pop Out – Ken & Friends to Drake’s OVO Fest. When Complex shared a clip of Drake performing his Meek Mill diss track, “Back to Back,” at the event in 2015 users on social media debated whether the moment still hits as hard in the wake of the latest beef. XXXTentacion Associate Says “It’s Still F*ck Drake” After Ryan Garcia’s Viral Conspiracy Theory

XXXTentacion associate DJ Scheme discussed the late rapper and reaffirmed that “it’s still f*ck Drake” after Ryan Garcia shared a conspiracy theory about the Toronto rapper being linked to X’s death. While Ski Mask The Slump God recently shot down the rumor, Scheme clarified that, even though it’s not true, they’re still not fans of Drake.

“My Only Issue Is That After My Brother Died All Drake Did Was Throw Shots To Look More Gangster. So To Wrap Things Up It’s Still F*ck Drake,” he wrote in one post. “My loyalty is to MY family that’s it. & I consider each and every one of you guys apart of it.” When one user brought up Ski Mask The Slump God’s recent comments on the matter, Scheme responded: “Because SKI was saying DRAKE said ‘HE DIDNT DO IT’ & CAME TO SKI AND SAID HE LOVED HIM. That’s NOT ski defending him.” As for what he had posted, Ski wrote on X: “Whoever Believe This Stupid Sh*t Too Deep In The YouTube Conspiracy Rabbit Hole Go Outside Touch Grass My N***a.”

Despite the popularity of the conspiracy theory, which stems from a short-lived feud with Drake, XXXTentacion’s killers have already been convicted of his 2018 murder. The 20-year-old rapper was shot and killed outside a motorcycle dealership in Deerfield Beach, Florida, while the attackers stole his Louis Vuitton bag which held $50,000 in cash. Police eventually arrested four suspects and charged them with first-degree murder.

Kendrick Lamar Films ‘Not Like Us’ Music Video in Compton After Epic “Pop Out – Ken & Friends” Concert

Screen Shot 2024 06 22 at 7.23.19 PM

After Kendrick Lamar’s acclaimed Juneteenth concert in Inglewood, Kendrick Lamar drew a crowd in Compton on Saturday while filming a music video for his song “Not Like Us.”

Fans, and the whole hood, gathered at Tam’s Burgers on Rosecrans Avenue, chanting along with the chorus as Lamar filmed scenes for the video. Talk about keeping a summer anthem alive and kicking, at least in Los Angeles.

The release date for the video is still unknown. So it’s anyone’s guess. But “Not Like Us,” a diss track aimed at fellow rapper Drake, was released on May 4, amid a long-standing feud between the two that dates back to 2013.

Get this, the video shoot follows Lamar’s “Pop Out – Ken & Friends” concert, which featured prominent Los Angeles figures and West Coast artists, attracting about 17,000 attendees at the Kia Forum. The concert, which was livestreamed, highlighted Lamar’s significant influence and featured his performance of “Not Like Us” five times consecutively to close the event.

Due to the ongoing tension between Lamar and Drake, heightened security was necessary at the video shoot.

“Not Like Us” debuted at No. 1 and is currently at No. 6 on the Hot 100 after six weeks on the chart. Now on to the visuals. Let’s see if Dot tops the “Family Matters” video, which definitely was an overlooked visual but far from a pushover piece of content, onscreen or otherwise.

Funkmaster Flex Questions Purpose of Kendrick Drake Beef, “Was it a Lyrical Competition or Marketing/Career Relaunch?”

Screen Shot 2024 06 22 at 6.55.18 PM

NYC DJ Funkmaster Flex is dying to know seriously, what was the whole point of the whole Kendrick Lamar and Drake’s, so called beef? Period. Gotham City’s most prolific DJ went on X (formerly Twitter) an opined with his thoughts.

Flex had a theory, which isn’t wild by any stretch that the feud might have been concocted for marketing or maybe it was in fact a competitive duel. Here’s what he posted:

“I HAVE DRAKE / KENDRICK QUESTION?,” he wrote. “WAS IT A LYRICAL COMPETITION? OR A MARKETING / CAREER RELAUNCH? I NEED TO UNDERSTAND WHAT ARE THE RULES IN A LYRICAL BATTLE?”

Screen Shot 2024 06 22 at 6.44.40 PM
Screen Shot 2024 06 22 at 6.44.40 PM

Of course the chorus of Lamar’s fanbase flew into K Dot’s defense in the replies, like clockwork. Here’s what one user posted:

“Drake lost regardless of what you call it lmaooo.. but what makes you say Career relaunch? Did he retire & i missed it?” Another added: “Bro acting like Kendrick career was dead or dying…it would make sense if this was Rick Ross.” Ross, as well as Metro Boomin, The Weeknd, and more artists, have also been feuding with Drake.

Another arguable GOAT recently gave his two cents. LL Cool J had this to say about the feud:

“He did his thing, he showed up and I think his fans can feel comfortable wit that. […] The key to that stuff is as a long as it doesn’t distract you from your ultimate goal, it’s a wonderful thing to participate in. I love it.”

What ya’ll think. Was this an authentic beef between two artists who genuinely didn’t like each other? A massive marketing campaign by both titans or maybe one of the two using the fight to rebrand and relaunch? Ya’ll be the judge.

Kali Uchis has a never-ending well of creative works, or so it appears. The “Moonlight” singer thought she fed her fans’ appetite in January with the release of her latest album, Orquídeas.

But, it turns out, she didn’t. Now, Kali Uchis is back from maternity leave to share the track, “Never Be Yours.” To some, the moody Josh Crocker-produced song may appear to be new. However, Kali Uchis’ day one fans will tell you it is actually an oldie but goodie.

If the lyrics, “Hello Kitty, why the long face? / You keep on standin’, standin’, standin’ in the same place / New coupons, riding in the Chevrolet with big bass / You’re deep on talkin’, talkin’ ’bout how we all lack taste / Beamer, Bentley / Make me, spend me / Nеw chain, you changed / Here’s your rеceipt,” don’t spark a flashback, you must have missed her appearance on the Kinda Neat podcast.

Back in 2014, Kali Uchis performed the record live for the show. The clip has since racked up over twenty-four million views on YouTube. With a snippet of the song currently gaining steam on TikTok, she decided to officially release the record across music platforms, starting with Kali Uchis’ official YouTube page.

Whitney Alford Emphatically Raps To Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” In Background Of Denzel Curry’s IG Story

Kendrick Lamar’s fiancée, Whitney Alford, can be seen rapping along to the hit diss track, “Not Like Us,” in the background of a video that Denzel Curry posted from the rapper’s concert in Los Angeles from earlier this week. When Curry posted the clip to confirm he was in attendance at the star-studded event, eagle-eyed fans noticed an impassioned Alfrod rapping the song in the background. Drake has brought her and Lamar’s relationship up several times during their ongoing feud. He’s accused Lamar of abusing his partner and claimed he hasn’t seen their children in years.

“Unfortunately no matter how many of these vids come out, drake fans will continue to act like Whitney was abused with no evidence,” one fan wrote in response to the clip on X (formerly Twitter). “I guarantee if Whitney literally comes on video saying ‘Drake is a liar my man never hit me’ his fans will just say she’s lying cause she’s scared.” Another user wrote: “Drake fans will say Kendrick forced her to sing along and know every word. In all seriousness, this is wholesome asf and great to see.”

Lamar’s feud with Drake was a centerpiece of The Pop Out – Ken & Friends. He performed several diss tracks from the beef before ending by doing “Not Like Us” several times over and over again. “Y’all ain’t gonna let anyone disrespect the West Coast, huh? Oh, y’all ain’t gonna let nobody mock and imitate our legends, huh?” he asked at one point.
