Cordae And Anderson .Paak Take Us On A Ride In “Summer Drop” Music Video

Cordae and Anderson .Paak don’t get enough credit. Every song these two make together is a heater, and their latest, “Summer Drop,” is proof. We already did a rundown on the song itself, but the duo have dropped a music video to accompany it. Unsurprisingly, it is also great. Cordae and Anderson .Paak tap into the laid back vibe of the J. Cole instrumental by riding around a neighborhood with the windows down. The duo appear to be having a blast, and honestly, the energy is infectious.

Cordae is going for a very particular aesthetic on his upcoming album. “Saturday Mornings,” his last song with Lil Wayne, and “Summer Drop,” both evoke a 90s nostalgia. The way each set up is shot to evoke an old school music video, the switches to grainy black-and-white. Cordae is bringing back the rap music of his youth, but putting his own spin on it. There’s nothing kitschy or annoyingly retro about the “Summer Drop” video. It tips its cap to the summer anthems of the past while still having enough of a modern feel to connect with fans in 2024.

Cordae Evokes His 90s Childhood In New Video

A big part of why the balance works is the on screen chemistry between Cordae and Anderson .Paak. In their body language and their reference points, the duo evoke groups like De La Soul and DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince. Even the title of Cordae’s upcoming album, The Crossroads, evokes Bone Thugs. The rapper is clearly feeling wistful, and it manifests in his lyrics. “I saved up the whole summer, that’s how I got school clothes,” he raps. “I bought some Puma’s and some fake chains, that was fools gold.
“My n**ga, what you know about those hot summers? No air condition.”

Anderson .Paak, as always, balances out Cordae’s reserved delivery. The instantly recognizable singer drops a memorable opening verse about his success, and how his life has changed so much since he was a kid. “I’m in my other drop, from beanies to buckets. A hundred bucks in my Polo socks,” he spits. “Remember when summer dropped, we was at Unclе’s spot. Three n**gas with nothin’ to do but wrestle or slap box.” Honestly, we can’t wait to hear the rest of Cordae’s album.

Travis Scott Does “Drugs You Should Try It” Justice With Equally Trippy Music Video

Travis Scott has successfully brought his fan-favorite mixtape to streaming services in DAYS BEFORE RODEO. This 2014 project holds a special place in the hearts of La Flame’s fans for a lot of reasons. It’s got some of his best-ever songs it, it shows the growth and development of the dark, psychedelic sound that they know him for. Additionally, the tape sees Travis at arguably his hungriest and most untamed state yet. When you combine all of the aspects together, you are getting a nostalgic version of the Houston artist that we probably won’t get ever again, given where he is creatively and in hip-hop overall. While that might be sad for some, it makes songs by Travis Scott like “Drugs You Should Try It” all the more special.

When we said DBR has some of his highest creative genius on it, “Drugs You Should Try It” is one of the tracks. Compared to the rest of nocturnal Southern trap you are getting on this project; this song sticks out in a good way. The guitar is such an iconic part of it, as well as the trippy, rapid-fire hi-hats. Furthermore, Scott is at his most vulnerable as he talks about loving someone, as well as all of their druggy escapades together. Ask most hardcore Scott fans and they will have this song in their top five or top 10 all-time for all these reasons listed. Adding to the cult-like aspect of the record, Travis has decided to release a music video for “DYSTI”. Like the content of the song, the visuals are equally woozy and spacey, including shots of La Flame falling down in slow-mo.

SosMula Unleashes Fiery New Single “Boogie Man”

Despite his City Morgue days coming to an end, SosMula can’t be stopped. Currently, the Brazilian American performer is gearing up to unveil his new album, SLEEZ RELIGION. The project is currently slated for release on September 13, fittingly a Friday, and fans can’t wait. It’ll be SosMula’s first solo project since 2022 when he unleashed SLEEZ MACHINE and “Molly Brains.”

The album is only a couple of weeks away at this point, but nonetheless, he decided to give supporters a taste of what’s to come late last week. He dropped his new single “Boogie Man” alongside an accompanying music video, which certainly sets the tone for the rest of the LP. The lively visual leads with a murder, and ends with SosMula surrounded by candles in the woods, setting anything he can find on fire. The song itself is defined by the rapper’s signature gritty and metal-infused flow and horror themes.

SLEEZ RELIGION will follow the release of My Bloody America, City Morgue’s fourth and final album. He and ZillaKami dropped the project in September of last year after announcing that they would be going their separate ways. What do you think of SosMula’s new song? What about its accompanying music video? Will you be adding “Boogie Man” to your playlist or not? Are you looking forward to his upcoming album SLEEZ RELIGION? Share your thoughts in the comments section down below and keep an eye on HNHH for more updates.

ASAP Rocky Drops One Of His Best Music Videos Yet With “HIGHJACK”

ASAP Rocky’s comeback season is upon us. Fans have been waiting since 2018 for new Rocky music, and the rapper is finally poised to deliver. Don’t Be Dumb is slated for released on August 30. Now, we have a music video for ASAP Rocky’s new single, “HIGHJACK.” The song didn’t scale the charts when it dropped on August 2. It was, however, proof that the Harlem rapper still had what it took to make a slick, cloudy bop. The music video for “HIGHJACK,” which dropped August 21, enhances the song tenfold. It showcases ASAP Rocky in a mold that fans haven’t gotten to see in over a decade.

ASAP Rocky broke out with a singular, black-and-white aesthetic. ASAP Mob was dangerous when they first started out, but Rocky gave them a stylish flair. These strengths are on display in the “HIGHJACK” music video. It starts off minimally, but quickly descends into a beautiful, surreal collection of images. Rocky raps in different corners of the camera frame, while the perspective of the rooms around him shift. At one point, he’s seen tossing bars off in a frame reminiscent of an M.C. Escher painting. It’s all very trippy, which perfectly segues into the “HIGHJACK” chorus sung by Jessica Pratt.

ASAP Rocky Builds On His Original Aesthetic

“HIGHJACK” saves its most startling visuals for the second half of the song, though. While it’s cool to see ASAP Rocky posted up in a series of black-and-white settings, the Jessica Pratt chorus unlocks a kaleidoscope of wild imagery. Members of the ASAP Mob seemingly celebrate in slow motion, while a camera pans through various tableaus of Rocky in different outfits. A pair of hands rock rings that have the album’s title, Don’t Be Dumb, written on them. A funhouse face rocks a silver grill in the background. Most curiously, a be-speckled Rocky gets up from a bed and puts on a suit.

The music video culminates with two contrasting images. One of Rocky standing above a tall building, and other of the rapper facing the wall in a mysterious room. Neither narrative is resolved, which leads us to believe there will be more to come in future Don’t Be Dumb music videos. “HIGHJACK” may not be a smash hit, but in drumming up interest for what Rocky has next, the song and video could not have done a better job.

6ix9ine Kicks Off New Era With Celebratory New Single “Wassup”

6ix9ine has seemingly got nine lives. Fans thought his career was over when he got out of prison, but he stuck around dropped hits. The artist’s profile within hip-hop dimmed somewhat when he pivoted to latin trap with 2023’s Leyenda Viva, but he’s back with a brand new look and new sound. 6ix9ine is planning a major return to the genre that made him, and the music video for “Wassup” proves that he’s going all in. The artist uploaded the video to Instagram teasing the expiration of his house arrest. “10 more days left of house arrest,” he wrote. “Back outside.”

“Wassup” is a hybrid of the styles that 6ix9ine has been playing with in recent years. He’s rapping hard over the instrumental, and talking his usual trash. Musically, though, the song is a departure from iconic singles like “GOOBA” and “GUMMO.” Where earlier songs featured a screaming chorus and aggressive beat, “Wassup” is more mellow. It features a stuttering instrumental reminiscent of the latin trap that 6ix dabbled in last year. The chorus also sees the artist a more melodic chorus than usual. He even slathers his vocals in Autotune to further sell the song’s accessibility. It’s not 6ix9ine’s most attention grabbing release in terms of catchiness, but it does serve as a good reintroduction. And a teaser of what’s to come on his upcoming album, Blackballed.

Let us know what you think of this brand-new track, in the comments section down below. Additionally, stay tuned to HNHH for the latest news and updates from around the music world. We will continue to keep you informed on all of your favorite artists and their upcoming projects.

Drake Pops Out For “Supersoak” Music Video In New Preview From DJ Akademiks

Well, it looks like DJ Akademiks was quickly able to prove his claim that Drake has a music video coming very soon. Moreover, he recently shared a short preview of the visuals for the unreleased (and leaked) Lil Yachty collab “Supersoak” music video on his livestream. The clip doesn’t really show much, just the 6ix God rocking his braids and vibing out to the track with a friend. Either way, it gives OVO and Concrete fans hope that the duo will officially drop this collaboration on streaming services after Yachty spoke of leaking it to Kai Cenat because they couldn’t get the sample cleared.

“It’ll be good for both of their brands,” Mr. Hotspot, the artist that Drake and Lil Yachty sampled for this cut, explained concerning his ultimatum that he’ll clear the sample if they make a clean and kid-friendly version of their song. “I’m blessed to work with children so we just gotta make it clean for them. We don’t need no children getting whooped cause they said this or that, you understand? It’s the children who really running these views up. So if we make sure both verses clean everybody coming clean, everybody gonna benefit.”

DJ Akademiks Previews Drake “Supersoak” Music Video

I sent a song to Kai to leak,” Lil Yachty had said of this Drake collab. “We couldn’t get the sample. So I just let Kai play it. It’s everywhere. [Mr. Hotspot] went down, like, a Christian path. I don’t even think we got into money. He was just like, ‘No.’ It was crazy.” Maybe this new music video means that the “Another Late Night” duo successfully worked something out with Mr. Hotspot to put the song out officially, but we can’t know for sure until it drops.

Meanwhile, “Supersoak” also prompted Soulja Boy to call Drake out for what he perceived as a diss against him. “Drake, you up here talkin’ about some S.O.D. super soak,” he expressed on social media. “Boy, stop playin with me, boy. That better be a f***ing shout out, n***a. You better keep that s**t light, my boy. This your first and only warning. This not gon’ be the best idea for you, family.”

DJ Akademiks Hints At Drake’s Next Move

Akademiks made the report on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday morning.

“Music video otw,” he wrote. Fans had mixed responses to the news. “Drake down bad.. he should end his washed career now!” one user replied to Ak’s post. Another added: “Tbh AK should just be a Drake fan page cause this is where we always getting the new exclusive from Drake.”

Kanye West And Ty Dolla Sign Drop Moody Music Video For “SLIDE”

Kanye West can’t go more than 48 hours without a controversy it seems. The rapper was already been criticized for the messy rollout of VULTURES 2. A rollout that was months and multiple album versions in the making, mind you. Then it was suggested that West was addicted to nitrous gas, which is a story that has effectively drowned out anything that was on VULTURES 2. Despite the seemingly constant barrage of problems, Kanye West and Ty Dolla Sign are forging ahead. The duo have decided to drop a music video for the first VULTURES 2 single that was released: “SLIDE.”

Let’s get the obvious points out of the way. Kanye West and Ty Dolla Sign do not appear in the video for “SLIDE.” There is no performance element to the song, or famous faces scattered throughout. Instead, the video presents a single, unbroken shot of a camera moving down a city street. We see a woman in lingerie, we see homeless people in tents. We also see a vulture at one point, which, sure, why not. It’s suggested that the street in question is in a red light district, but other aspects of the video, like cars on fire, don’t exactly vibe with the theory. Overall, it feels very much cut from the concept of “No Church In the Wild,” which is to say, societal chaos.

Kanye West And Ty Dolla Capture Societal Collapse

It’s a cool video, even if it doesn’t align with Kanye West or Ty Dolla Sign’s lyrics. “SLIDE” sees West rap about impossibly wealthy parties and sexual conquests during his first verse. “Headed to the high-rise. Cruisin’ like Eyes Wide Shut (Get up),” he spits. But I slide in it like a drive-by. The industry don’t like me, tell them p**sy n**gas likewise (Get up). They tried to hit me with the cyanide.” Ty Dolla Sign’s hook is more of the same. Kanye West hasn’t provided much context about the inspiration for the song, either. When he played it during a November DJ set, he merely said: “This is madness for me, I made this with my brother Ty a few months ago.”

It’s difficult to imagine the music video for “SLIDE” will do much to boost VULTURES 2 album sales. The album pulled in 107K album equivalent sales first week, which marks the lowest first week numbers for a Kanye West album ever. The reviews have been even worse. Fans have chastised West for dropping the album despite it not being close to finished. Several tweaks have been made to the final mix, but rather than intrigue listeners, the way it did when West tweaked The Life of Pablo, it has irritated.

Gunna’s “Today I Did Good” Music Video Is A Reminder To Just Live Your Life

One thing fans have learned about Gunna is that he loves to make a music video. Every album cycle of his comes with several visuals. a Gift & a Curse came with six videos for the album’s fifteen tracks. His latest album, One of Wun, is no different. After releasing videos for “whatsapp (wassam),” “back in the a” and “Prada Dem” with Offset, Gunna is back with the fourth video of this album cycle. “today i did good,” a more understated cut than the high-energy tracks Gunna is most known for, is the latest from the album to receive a video.

“today i did good” is Gunna celebrating himself. He applauds himself for getting on a diet (“I ain’t been eating no bullsh*t”). His fitness journey is one he’s documented himself for the last few years. He thanks God that he’s still rich, and talks about his bachelor life. The beat is mellower than one may expect from a Gunna track, and overall, it’s pleasant to listen to. The video, directed by Spike Jordan, is as impressive.

Gunna – “today i did good”: Watch:

The video itself is Gunna going through several days in his life. The video is also shot on a GoPro-like camera. It gives viewers his point of view in a way that would be similar to how Gunna himself goes through the day. He also time stamps every major point in the day. The video begins with him working out in Rome at 4:45 AM. From there, he eats breakfast, gets dressed, and leaves his hotel at 9:38 AM. He goes clothes shopping and then goes to a fashion show. Gunna leaves Rome at almost 7PM, and heads to South Africa to shoot the video for Tyla’s “Jump,” a track he features on. The scenes in South Africa follow a similar format. After his day in South Africa, he briefly heads to Los Angeles. He then goes to Ohio State University’s Schottenstein Center, the location of the first show of his Bittersweet Tour.

The video’s ending scene is from a photoshoot for P, Gunna’s clothing brand. Following the shoot, they return a room to in a scene that suggests a deluxe version of One of Wun is on the way. There are two pieces of art. One is the album’s standard art. Instead of the standard’s blue and white flowers, the other piece of art shows his head covered with orange and yellow flowers. The video’s last message is essentially telling viewers to make the most of their day. Gunna also wants his fans to not listen to what other people think of them. It’s a nice message to end a very well-crafted music video for one of the more underrated tracks on One of Wun. Watch the video above.

JPEGMAFIA And Denzel Curry Team Up For Grimey Music Video “JPEGULTRA!”

JPEGMAFIA and Denzel Curry is a match made in rap heaven. The two artists were elite on their first collab, “VENGEANCE I VENGEANCE,” but their latest song, “JPEGULTRA,” managed to top it. Both are in their absolute element, dropping clever bars over one of Peggy’s coolest productions. Unsurprisingly, the music video is just as good. JPEGMAFIA and Curry take to the streets with handheld cameras and deliver a visual that’s every bit as gritty and stylish as the song that accompanies it.

There’s some fun editing right off the bat. Denzel Curry raps the same bars in three different settings, and the clips are then overlapped in the frame so we can see them all simultaneously. It’s a jarring effect at first but it adds to the otherworldly aesthetic of the beat. The music video also plays with different film stock. There’s old VHS footage, grainy black-and-white stock, and footage obtained with a fish eye lens. They are interchanged about as frequently as JPEGMAFIA and Curry trade verses, which is to say: often. JPEGMAFIA’s last verse is electric. “On my knees for a God who can hear. I can’t pray to no God I can’t fear,” he spits. “I think I should have ran me a cult. Quarterback that ho like I’m Peyton on Colts.”

JPEGMAFIA’s New Video Uses Different Filters

“JPEGULTRA!” samples “Get Up!” by the Japanese band Akira Ishikawa And His Count Buffalos. Peggy has spoken at length about the time he lived in Japan, and the impact Japanese music has on his own. He cited the Cowboy Bebop soundtrack, in particular, during a 2018 interview with Vice. “It was one of the first ones I heard but all of them have been influential in their own way,” he explained. “The thing I took the most from them was the strange rhythms and just the weird things they do. So sometimes they’ll pull these crazy melodies out, they probably don’t even care. It’s a melody for a scene, but it makes me cry.”

JPEGMAFIA recently made headlines for throwing shots at Drake. He went at the Toronto rapper not once, but twice on the album I LAY DOWN MY LIFE FOR YOU. Peggy has gone at Drake for most of his career, but the aggression of his bars caught a lot more attention this time around. He even addressed the controversy on social media. “If anybody got a problem with what i said on this album, my tour dates in bio,” he tweeted out. “Y’all cant even pay your rent but defending Drake for free, go outside and be somebody.”
