Muni Long Announces Her Upcoming EP On The Tail Of Her Breakout BET Awards Performance

Fans of Muni Long‘s breakout single “Hrs And Hrs” have helped make the songwriting star one of R&B’s biggest success stories of the past year, and today, she’s announced her impending follow-up to her debut EP, Public Displays Of Affection. Fittingly, it’s titled Public Displays Of Affection Too and it’s due July 1 via Supergiant/Def Jam Recordings. Clocking in at five tracks, it contains one guest feature from Saweetie and will contain Muni Long’s new singles “Another” and “Pain.”

The former aspiring country star — she released a twangy project under her real name, Priscilla Renea, in 2018 — made the switch to R&B for her 2021 EP after writing songs for the likes of Ariana Grande, Kelly Clarkson, Madonna, Mariah Carey, Mary J. Blige, Selena Gomez, and more, a move that paid off big time. “Hrs And Hrs” became a huge smash thanks to a viral trend on TikTok and since then, Muni Long has gone on to work with pop R&B juggernauts like John Legend, appearing on his new single “Honey.” Muni Long’s coronation came at last night’s BET Awards, where she performed her breakout hit on stage amid performances by Latto, Chance The Rapper, Doechii, and more. You can watch her performance below.

Public Displays Of Affection Too is due 7/1 via Supergiant/Def Jam Recordings. You can see the tracklist below.

1. “Pain”
2. “Another”
3. “Baby Boo” Feat. Saweetie
4. “Crack”
5. “Cartier”

John Legend And Muni Long Keep It Sweet Like ‘Honey’ On Their Luscious New Song

John Legend and Muni Long make worlds collide on their new track “Honey.” Much like the title of the song, it is a sweet, mid-tempo offering. The “Ordinary People” artist handles the first verse and hook, while Long takes on verse two. While both excel at getting people in their moody vibes, this track picks the pace up just a bit behind a thumping drum pattern and a myriad of instruments.

“Honey” follows a somewhat active 2022 for John Legend, who released “Dope,” “Free,” and his collaboration with Sebastian Yatra on “Tacones Rojos.” Muni Long has been riding high off of the momentum of “Hrs & Hrs” which came from 2021’s Public Displays Of Affection. In 2022, she’s released “Pain,” “Another,” and appeared on “Chainzzz” with Kali plus “Baby Boo” with Saweetie. It’s a treat to see two generations of R&B come together in this manner, and hopefully, it’s not the last time the two will collaborate. It is unclear whether either will release an LP coming in 2022, but for now, this will be enough to hold the listeners over.

Saweetie is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

The Drake feature is one of the most coveted things in music. When Drake hops on a track, it normally skyrockets to the top of charts and in the ears of fans. Rising star Muni Long reveals she passed on it, but because of a jealous boyfriend.

“That on[e] time in 2008 I missed out on a Drake feature because my bf at the time found out he was pulling up to the studio and flew into a jealous rage,” Long wrote Tik Tok. “So I checked out and quit responding to his texts.”

Hopefully, Drake and Muni Long can get it right in 2022 or beyond.

Despite missing out on 2008 Drake, Muni Long found success and her “Hrs and Hrs” single has officially gone gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), officially selling 500,000 equivalent units. According to Rated RnB, the single is Long’s first RIAA certification. The single was found on her Public Displays of Affection EP.

Muni Long’s “Hrs and Hrs” is now available on Amazon Music in a brand-new Amazon Original version. The multi-hyphenate singer/songwriter performs the song with a full backing band in the new, redesigned version of the tune. Amazon posted a never-before-seen video of Muni Long and her band performing the new version of the song on a downtown LA rooftop to commemorate the track’s release.

Muni Long and Supergiant Records Enter Partnership with Def Jam

Muni Long's "Hrs and Hrs" Becomes TikTok's First Hit Single of 2022

Muni Long has partnered with Def Jam Recordings through her Supergiant Records label. The signing was announced today by Def Jam chairman & CEO Tunji Balogun.

Muni’s platinum breakthrough smash “Hrs & Hrs,” co-managed by Rashad Tyler and Chris Anokute, has taken the world by storm, racking up over 150 million streams, peaking in the Top 5 on Apple Music, #17 on the Billboard Hot 100, and now sitting at #3 at Urban radio and hitting the Top 10 at Rhythm radio.

“It has been a lifelong goal of mine to be able to bring my gifts to the world. This alignment with Tunji and Def Jam for a global takeover is a literal dream come true,” said Muni Long. “Supergiant Records started as an idea between myself and my husband Raysean in 2019 and over the course of the next two years we would invest, hire, strategize and create. As our team grew, so did our success, and as a result of hours and hours of hard work and intense focus, this year we reaped a bountiful harvest. Many, many thanks to my partners, Rashad Tyler, Raysean Hairston, Chris Anokute and all those who contributed to this historic moment. We look forward to an incredible journey with Tunji and the Def Jam family.”

“Muni represents everything a Def Jam artist should be: bold, independent, authentic, creative, visionary, and one of a kind” said Tunji Balogun. “I have followed her artistry and journey very closely, from her time as a writer for some of the biggest artists in the world, to the incredible run of success she is now so deservedly enjoying. Muni sets the new standard for where we want to go as a label. I’m thrilled to join with her and her world-class team in this exciting partnership. With all the amazing work done by Priscilla and Raysean, Chris, Rashad and the Supergiant team, along with J.R. McKee and his MPR team – combined with the resources and passion of the Def Jam family – the sky’s the limit.”

“We’ve both known Muni for over a decade, since the start of her music business journey as a teenager,” said Supergiant Records co-founder/co-manager Rashad Tyler and co-manager Chris Anokute. “So fast forward to now, through the ups and downs we’ve seen her endure, we couldn’t be happier for her current success. Let’s just say she put in her 10,000 hrs.”
