Grammy-nominated rapper Hurricane Chris is now on trial for a shooting that occurred in June 2020. He’s facing murder charges after shooting Danzeria O. Ferris Jr. in Louisiana. The incident took place on June 19th when Hurricane, whose real name is Christopher Dooley, claimed to have caught Ferris trying to steal his car outside of a gas station. Due to the misunderstanding, the musician shot Danzeria, which quickly proved to be fatal.
After the shooting, officers arrived at the scene to find Danzeria with several gunshot wounds. The man later passed away in the hospital. It is reported that Ferris Jr. had his final moments at the Texaco on Hollywood Avenue. Now, Hurricane’s trial is officially beginning three years later. Despite the fact that he was driving a stolen car, he is confident in his innocence. In a weird turn of events, the rapper’s lawyer compared the victim to a Friday character, Deebo. Not only did the lawyer make the comparison verbally, but they also showed a photo of the actor to the jury.
Hurricane Chris Lawyer Compares Victim To Movie Character
After the shooting on June 19th, Hurricane Chris is now being charged with second-degree murder. He is also being charged with possession of a stolen vehicle. Interestingly enough, this is the same vehicle that the artist believes was stolen by the now-deceased victim. After the artist’s attorney made his comparison, 911 phone calls were played for the jury. The audio was reportedly so distressing that a woman left the courtroom.
Hurricane is currently pleading not guilty. His defense team is claiming self-defense as the cause of the incident. Despite how confident he is about his innocence, many people are not buying his excuse. Especially given the apparent low blow made by his attorney comparing the dead victim to a movie character. The fact that Chris was driving a stolen car has also caused some people to raise their eyebrows. The trial started recently on March 8th. While the trial is still in its early stage of development, many people believe that the case is a pretty open-and-shut one. Check back later for any updates on the trial.
Seth Rogen, the popular comedian and actor, is speaking out about negative reviews. He appeared in an interview to talk about many things. Among the conversation, Seth Rogen states that these negative reviews have affected him over the years. Poor reviews for two of his movies, The Green Hornet and The Interview, are particularly devastating. Seth talks about how he is at nearly the top of his profession. Despite his success , many critics feel the need to comment on his own personal expression.
The Green Hornet is a 2011 action-comedy film in which Rogen played the lead role. He also wrote the screenplay for the film, making him deeply involved with the movie. Many criticized the film’s plot and pacing. However, others praised Rogen’s comedic performance and screenwriting abilities. Seth Rogen is known for taking his work seriously and putting his heart into his art. As a result, criticism can feel like a personal attack to him. The Interview is another project by Rogen. This film received a lot more negative attention, with many calling the movie “crass.”
Seth Rogen Feels Hurt By Harsh Criticism
While the entertainment industry is tough, Seth Rogen believes critics should take a different approach. He states in an interview that he thinks media critics have the ability to hurt people more than people initially think. As a result, the actor and filmmaker believes critics need to second guess how they approach writing their reviews. A lot of fans and filmmakers are on Rogen’s side when it comes to addressing criticism. However, there are many who think that Rogen is being a bit too soft.
Many people are quick to give their two cents on the subject online. Part of being in the entertainment field is being open to criticism. While the reviews may be harsh, a lot of people think the negative talk should not weigh Rogen down. The artist does admit that it is hard for him to not take these moments personally. However, there are no apparent signs that Seth is planning on quitting his career. In fact, he is currently working on more projects, as well as releasing finished ones.
Nicki Minaj’s hit “Super Freaky Girl” appeared in the trailer for Jennifer Lawrence’s upcoming comedy, No Hard Feelings. Moreover, the film hits theaters this summer and stars Lawrence as a young woman on the verge of losing her childhood home. While working, she finds a job listing from parents looking to hook their 19-year-old son up with someone before college. From what the trailer shows, Lawrence takes the leap, and craziness, hilarity, and subtly deep coming-of-age themes follow. Even though it sounds hectic to begin with, it’s well-suited by Minaj’s colorful No. 1 hit.
In fact, that single is one of many that formed part of a prolific run for Nicki recently. Along with that track, there’s “Do We Have A Problem?” with Lil Baby, which started off Nicki’s eventful 2022. Also, she released various collaborations with Fivio Foreign and Coi Leray that boosted hype and settled her in with some newer faces in the game. Most recently, she dropped “Red Ruby Da Sleeze,” which allegedly contains some subliminal disses at other female rappers. Still, the 40-year-old rapper clarified some aspects of the song in a recent interview.
Nicki Minaj Soundtracks Trailer For No Hard Feelings Starring Jennifer Lawrence
“‘Red Ruby [Da Sleeze],’ I dropped it as a itty-bitty just something,” the Pinkprint star remarked. “’Cause I know it’s gon’ go off on tour, it’s gon’ go off on y’all. It’s just rapping. But the album, obviously, I have to drop my official single for the album. ‘Red Ruby’ is not the official single for the album.” Diss track or not, she continued to fan the flames of those rumors during her Rolling Loud L.A. set. However, beyond just rap beef, Nicki apparently held onto “Super Freaky Girl” for a while before releasing it.
“My label wanted me to go full out with a single and everything when I was pregnant, and I couldn’t bring myself to put out a song about p***y and d**ks and sucking and eating,” she elaborated. “I couldn’t bring myself to put a record out like that while my son was growing in my body! Nothing wrong with anybody who’s able to do it, but with me, I just felt in a very different, new space.” Check out the trailer for No Hard Feelings above and return to HNHH for more news and updates on Nicki Minaj.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie is just a month away from hitting theaters and the Nintendo/Illumination PR team is going all-out to promote it. In addition to crafting an interactive website for a hypothetical Mario Bros. plumbing business and releasing a new, final trailer yesterday showing off even more of its Mad Max-inspired Rainbow Road sequence.

The cast and crew weren’t done yet, though. The film’s voice actors — consisting of Chris Pratt, Jack Black, Anya Taylor-Joy, Keegan-Michael Key, Seth Rogen, Fred Armisen, and Charlie Day — stopped by The Tonight Show for a musical sketch in which they sing the iconic Super Mario Bros. video game theme song acapella alongside the show’s host Jimmy Fallon and house band The Roots.
In a Brady Bunch-like sequence, each singer appears in their own squares, which slide and shift across the screen while scenes from both the video game and the movie scroll by. Jack Black appears to be having an utter blast, especially when the game’s underground theme kicks in. Then, as they all reach the “end” of the level, they’re joined by a few more special guests: Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto and Illumination founder Chris Meledandri (who gets vocal backup from the Minions, naturally).
It’s a cute bit, which is to be expected from The Tonight Show, but it’s also a testament to how truly iconic and generational the Mario brand has been for the past four decades.
Jonathan Majors is one of the biggest stars in the world right now. Fans are becoming acquainted with his talents thanks to some roles in huge films. For instance, he just played Kang in the latest Ant-Man film. Moreover, he is the villain in the brand-new Creed film, which has proven to be a massive success. Overall, Majors is a phenomenal actor and he certainly deserves more fantastic roles. Thankfully, numerous directors are taking notice, and he has some very interesting projects on the horizon.
While speaking to the AssociatedPress, Majors let it be known that he is going to play Dennis Rodman soon. This will be for the new movie 48 Hours in Vegas which is the working title right now. Overall, this is supposed to be a movie about the time Dennis Rodman left the Chicago Bulls in the middle of the 1998 season. Subsequently, Rodman went and partied in Las Vegas as opposed to playing with his teammates. It was a very bizarre saga, and now, Majors will get to showcase it all on the big screen.
Jonathan Majors Speaks
In the interview above, Majors revealed how he is looking to get into the Rodman mindset. Essentially, he wants to sit down with Rodman and really get a feel for who he is as a person. “Hopefully I get to sit with him and chat with him when we get closer and try to get the script right; all these things, all these industry things,” Majors said. “I never really put a ceiling on myself but this is definitely a role where I’m definitely going to make sure I’m pushing that ceiling out. Because he demands that. You know, he’s such a full individual so he’s going to demand a lot. I’ve got to figure out how to get that.”
This could truly prove to be the role of a lifetime for Majors. Overall, he would be the lead actor in the film. Furthermore, Rodman is such an oddball to the point where if Majors plays him correctly, he will be seen as an actor with a ton of range. Hopefully, we get more details on this project, very soon. Let us know what you think of it, down in the comments below.
A legendary filmmaker’s quote has earned Cardi B’s attention. Fans were excited to hear that Cardi was interested in tackling more film roles, but a report about B.A.P.S. caused the Grammy winner to enter the chat. Recently, Robert Townsend chatted with Slash Film about his cult classic. The filmmaker is a legend in the industry with a career that spans decades. His productions have gone down in history and inspired other award-winners to swim against the tide. Slash Film praised B.A.P.S., the 1997 favorite starring Halle Berry and Natalie Desselle.
“The thing that I would say is this: I’m a filmmaker. It’s a well-made movie,” said Townsend. “And if you go on the ride and go, ‘Oh, it’s two country girls trying to make some money and then they find who they are, and at the end of the day, they do win. But it’s because they’re being honest and transparent.’ Do gold diggers or women that have ulterior motives exist? Yeah. These two country girls from Decatur, Georgia, got caught up in the scheme, but at the end of the day, we reveal their heart, and it’s a love story.”
Townsend Claims Cardi B & Megan Wanted To Star In Reboot
There were rumors that Townsend may have toyed with the idea of a second B.A.P.S., but the death of Natalie Desselle seems to have thwarted its future. Desselle sadly passed away in 2020 after succumbing to cancer. Townsend expressed it was difficult to entertain the idea of a sequel without Desselle’s involvement. He said, “It’s so funny because people want a sequel to that and … I don’t know.”
”There’s people that love, love, love the film and some people that didn’t get it,” said the director. “And those that love it — like you love it and you get it — I’ve had people go, ‘Hey, we want to do a remake.’ Everybody from Megan Thee Stallion to Cardi B is like, ‘Could we do…’” However, Cardi took to Twitter to address the statement.
Cardi Denies Reaching Out
“I don’t even know where that rumor even came about,” she said in a retweet. An original post from an outlet showed a side-by-side of Desselle and Berry in B.A.P.S. next to Megan and Cardi in their “WAP” visual. “Maybe because we looked soo cute in the Wap video ? …kiss kiss .” Of course, it could have been someone on Cardi’s team who inquired about a future film. Check it out above.
Did you know that the guys responsible for one of the most beloved and zany videos of 2014 are nominated for several awards at the upcoming Oscars? Because I sure didn’t.
Actually, let me back up. Somewhere in the recesses of my pop culture-addled brain, I was aware that the 2014 video for the DJ Snake and Lil Jon collaboration “Turn Down For What” was directed by 35-year-old director tandem
But somehow, my brain failed to connect the dots in any meaningful way until my editor pointed out to me that I’ve been talking about that movie pretty much nonstop since it came out last year, and that this was exactly the sort of connection that would allow me to do so in the music section. Also, it’s pretty darn nifty that Daniels were able to earn all those Oscar nominations by essentially just doing all the same things they did in their music video on a larger scale.
The track record for music video directors who turned to film has some truly wild variation. Sure, directors like Francis Lawrence (“Bad Romance,” “I’m A Slave 4 U”) went on to direct blockbusters (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and Mockingjay) while Spike Jonze (“Buddy Holly” and “Sky’s The Limit”) garnered critical acclaim for his arthouse films (Being John Malkovich, Her). But you also have Michael Bay and Hype Williams. The less said about Belly, the better.
But if you’d told people in 2014 that the people behind the unhinged “Turn Down For What” video would ultimately bring their transgressive commitment to chaos to the big screen – and earn 10 Academy Award nominations in the process – they might not have believed you. But in viewing Everything Everywhere All At Once, they’d see that all of the hallmarks of Daniels’ style remain intact. Which means that even after all their success, “Turn Down For What” might remain their greatest accomplishment yet.
In case you need a refresher on just how wild DJ Snake and Lil Jon’s video gets, here it is. The video opens on the rooftop of an apartment building, with a man staring into the camera as the beat builds. He leaps into the air in an apparent belly flop that smashes through the roof as the beat drops, landing in the apartment below. He proceeds to twerk on and/or hump practically every piece of furniture, terrifying the apartment’s occupant. She phones the police, and at this point, you’re likely expecting the story to proceed from what is an unusual but still altogether believable standpoint.
You’re wrong, though. So wrong. Not only does the phone officer’s face melt off a la René Belloq in Raiders Of The Lost Ark – one of many pop culture callbacks throughout Daniels’ work – but the dancing affliction of patient zero turns out to be somewhat contagious. After the lady’s clothes get blown off with a pelvic thrust, she joins in the debauchery, dropping her derriere right onto the first man’s face and once again crashing through the floor into the next apartment. This time, they disturb a family sitting down for dinner, leading to looks of horror and dismay as the process starts all over again.
The dance moves this time run the gamut of provocative Caribbean and South American styles (my favorite is the Brazilian Surra de Bunda, in which the female dancer rests her legs on her partner’s shoulders and then repeatedly smashes her posterior into his face… it’s so ridiculous) until the family gets into it too. The mother’s mammaries move of their own accord, the dad and daughter start headbanging, and before you know it, yet another apartment is practically demolished. And yes, they once again end up in the unit below, where at least an actual party is taking place.
The unsuspecting partygoers stare at the newcomers for a bit, and then things get really out of hand. A police officer sent over for the noise joins the party (of course), more furniture and flatware gets destroyed, and in the end, everyone ends up slumped over. That doesn’t stop the first guy’s sweatpants from twitching ominously as the video cuts to black.
When the video was first released, it was a phenomenon, leading to thinkpieces in Vox and on music interest sites, memes, and edits that made it even more ridiculous than it originally was. The internet couldn’t get enough; the song itself was licensed for use in films like 22 Jump Street, Furious 7, and the second Angry Birds movie, appeared in comedic sketches on The Tonight Show, and was even used in political campaigns like Rock The Vote and Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move!” initiative.
But that video was a huge part of the reason it stuck – people couldn’t get enough of it (to date, it’s accumulated well over a billion views on YouTube). And it established many of the signature flourishes of Daniels’ direction style, from irreverent and downright vulgar humor to the prominently Asian cast – which was as revolutionary in its day as that of the multiverse-hopping Oscars multi-nominee. Much like the dancing contagion from the video, Everything Everywhere features a sort of “everybody was kung-fu fighting” plot element in which one character suddenly displays outsized combat proficiency before nearly every other character becomes a drunken master.
Slow-motion butt drops figure prominently into both works, both for comedic purposes and plot advancement. Even the concept of each apartment being its own little ecosystem before the dancers crash through its ceiling is echoed in the use of the multiverse, where each timeline is encroached upon by Michelle Yeoh’s Evelyn as she seeks the means to defeat the “villainous” Jobu Tupaki. The film is littered with the same sort of pop culture references that led Daniels to nod to Indiana Jones; a song lyric absent-mindedly inserted into some dialogue by Kwan winds up leading to the song itself becoming the connective tissue between worlds.
Even the song’s title seems to reflect Daniels’ maximalist philosophy. As the multiverse shenanigans get nearly overwhelming, as so many plot points converge that you wonder how they’ll keep track, just when you think Everything Everywhere can’t possibly get any bigger, louder, funnier, more obnoxious, heartbreaking, or poignant, Daniels ask themselves, “Turn down for what?” and go even harder. As it turns out, that could be a winning strategy.
Legendary artist Ice Cube began his rise to fame as a member of N.W.A. with the debut of their album “Straight Outta Compton” in 1988. Two years later, Cube would embark on a solo career with his first album “AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted” followed by “Death Certificate” in 1991, “The Predator” in 1992, and “Lethal Injection” in 1993. This run of albums was one of the greatest of all time and solidified the Los Angeles rapper as one of the most celebrated artists in West Coast Hip-Hop history. However, in 1991, Ice Cube also began his acting career, which has since spanned decades and become just as illustrious as his musical endeavors. Let’s take a look back at some of Ice Cube’s greatest acting roles.
Boyz in the Hood
Ice Cube’s first role as an actor when he played “Doughboy” in the classic film, “Boyz in the Hood”. It was directed by John Singleton. The film’s cast was star-studded. It featured actors such as Cuba Gooding Jr., Laurence Fishburne, Morris Chestnut, Nia Long, and Angela Bassett. Despite Cube’s inexperience in acting at this point, his performance is one of the most celebrated and remembered in the entire film.
In the film, Cube’s character Doughboy serves as a foil for Tre, played by Cuba Gooding Jr. While Tre has a strong connection with his father, and is taught about the proper values and respect within the world, Doughboy does not have that luxury and shows the pitfalls men can fall into without proper male role models. Doughboy ends up a member of the Crips and is arrested and forced to serve time in prison for stealing. Ice Cube’s background as a rapper who actually grew up in Southern Los Angeles adds a believability to the role. This could not have been captured with many other actors.
In the climax of the film, Doughboy kills Ferris, avenging his brother Ricky’s death after Tre decides not to retaliate against Ferris. After the murder, Ice Cube delivers a classic line. He says American media “don’t know, don’t show, or don’t care about what’s going on in the hood”. In “Boyz in the Hood”, Cube proved that he could act in a serious, major role. His performance probably ranks as one of the greatest film debuts of all time.
Friday
Perhaps Ice Cube’s greatest and most remembered performance came in the 1995 film “Friday”, directed by F. Gary Gray. “Friday” is one of the best comedies in the last thirty years. The lines from the film are still quoted regularly today. Many moments of the film have become relics of Black culture. In the film, Ice Cube plays “Craig”. He is a down on his luck young adult who was just fired from his job on his day off.
Craig, alongside his best friend Smokey, played by Chris Tucker, decide to spend their Friday off getting high on Craig’s front porch. Throughout the film, Craig and Smokey encounter crackheads, overly sexual preachers, and girls in their neighborhood they have interest in. Craig and Smokey are also terrorized by Deebo, played by Tommy Lister Jr. throughout the film, whose violence and affinity for stealing cause problems for everyone in the neighborhood.
Ice Cube’s performance in “Friday” is much different from his more serious portrayal of “Doughboy” in “Boyz in the Hood”. Cube was able to show his comedic side throughout the film. His chemistry with Chris Tucker elevated the film to exceptional heights. It was in “Friday” that Ice Cube showed the acting world how much range he had and allowed for him to escape the “typecasting” void that many celebrities turned actors can fall into if they are not able to diversify their performances on screen. The success of “Friday” led to two sequels in “Next Friday” in 2000 and “Friday After Next” in 2002. However, it is the original film that is the most beloved and celebrated by society today, which is in large part due to Ice Cube’s performance.
Barbershop
In 2002, Ice Cube also starred as the lead role in “Barbershop”. His performances throughout the entire “Barbershop” series rank as some of his best. In the original film, directed by Tim Story, Cube plays “Calvin”, a young man who inherited a struggling barber shop in the south side of Chicago from his father and is forced to decide if he should keep the shop or sell it. “Barbershop” mixes the genres of comedy and drama. Ice Cube’s roles in the “Friday” series and in “Boyz in the Hood” influence and morph his portrayal of Calvin.
It is in “Barbershop” that Ice Cube gives a full display of his acting abilities as he combines humor with drama. Cube also shifts away from his portrayal of younger, coming-of-age-esque characters. Instead, he is portrayed as a mentor and leader to other characters in the film. While both “Doughboy” and “Craig” were young adults in need of guidance, Calvin is a character who provides guidance to other characters in the film. This is especially true of his relationship with Ricky, who is played by Michael Ealy.
“Barbershop” was a display of Ice Cube’s growth as an actor with age. He proved that he could enmesh his comedic and dramatic portrayals into a mix of both. This created a more two-dimensional film. “Barbershop” was an instant commercial success, grossing $77 million in the box office on a $12 million production budget. The film also received many positive reviews from critics. It’s lasting legacy was proven when “Barbershop: The Next Cut” was released fourteen years after the original film in 2016.
Ride Along
In more recent years, Ice Cube starred in “Ride Along”, directed by Tim Story, alongside Kevin Hart. In “Ride Along”, Ice Cube plays a veteran cop named James. He gives Hart’s character Ben a chance to upgrade from being a security card to a police officer. The dynamic between Cube and Hart in this film is similar to his role alongside Chris Tucker. Hart is the over-the-top comedy figure, while Ice Cube is the straight man with moments of humor in different places.
“Ride Along” also features a second film in which Ice Cube and Laurence Fishburne star together. Fishburne portrays Omar, the lead villain of the film. The LA native is able to combine a realistic portrayal of a tough guy while providing lots of comedic moments. “Ride Along” was a great box office success, as it grossed $154.5 million on a $25 million production budget. The success of the initial film also led to a sequel, “Ride Along 2”. It was directed by Tim Story and featured Ice Cube and Kevin Hart in similar roles. “Ride Along 2” also grossed over $100 million at the box office.
While Ice Cube may be primarily known for his musical success, his acting career is also full of legendary performances and classic movies. Even with his creation of the “BIG3” basketball league in 2017, Ice Cube has proven that his genius extends far beyond the musical realm. Ice Cube’s roles in films such as “Boyz in the Hood” and “Friday” have provided audiences with some of the most memorable quotes and scenes of the last thirty years and Cube’s legacy as an actor proves just as iconic as his musical career.
Air, the much anticipated upcoming Michael Jordan movie, opens in theaters in April. Movie and basketball fans are rightfully pumped. The film is noted to be a cinematic masterpiece. Critics state it captures the essence of one of the most groundbreaking partnerships in sports history. And here is everything we know about it.
Indeed, movies about sports, particularly basketball, are not new. Basketball and cinema have shared a rich history, dating back to the 1930s when the Harlem Globetrotters first appeared in films.
However, despite numerous basketball-themed movies and documentaries, a biopic on one of the sport’s most prominent and distinguished players, Michael Jordan, has yet to be made.
Jordan’s impact on the sport is undeniable. He has won six NBA championships, five MVP awards, and two Olympic gold medals. Not to mention many other numerous other accolades. Widely regarded as one of the greatest athletes of all time, Jordan and his legacy have continued growing. Even in his retirement, his Air Jordan brand of shoes is still wildly popular.
Nike’s partnership with Jordan to create the Air Jordan brand of sneakers in 1984. And it was considered a risky move. The NBA had strict rules about uniformity in footwear. Jordan’s preference for colorful sneakers went against the norm.
However, Nike’s marketing campaign for the Air Jordans was a monumental success. It featured Jordan in iconic ads and created a cult following around the brand. The shoes were not only a triumph on the court, but they also became a fashion statement off the court. Fans clamored for each latest release.
The Air Jordan line of sneakers continues to be a chief player in the sneaker industry today. New releases create a buzz among sneakerheads almost 40 years later.
The Buzz about the Movie ‘Air’
Although movies such as Space Jam (1996) featured Michael Jordan, it was not about Jordan’s life story. Air is something completely different.
Air highlights the groundbreaking partnership between Jordan and Nike. A relationship that forever changed how we view sports branding and fashion. Specifically, Ben Affleck’s Air attempts to show audiences a new side to a world they thought they knew.
Air explores the humble beginnings of Jordan. It also dives into how Nike went from being a joke in the industry to one of the world’s biggest sports accessory brands. Additionally, it focuses on the rise of Nike’s Air Jordan shoe and its iconic part of the sports shoe world.
What’s It About?
The film is set in the 1980s when Nike struggled to compete with rivals such as Adidas and Converse. The company’s executives were looking for a way to get a foothold in the basketball market. That’s when Vaccaro approached them with the idea of signing Jordan.
However, Nike’s management initially hesitated. They thought that the rookie player needed to be more proven to be worth the investment. Eventually, they took the risk. The Air Jordan line became one of the most popular and profitable shoe brands of all time.
In Air, audiences will witness the power of teamwork as Nike’s fledgling basketball division takes a risk that pays off more than anyone could have imagined.
The Stars of the Movie
Air presents audiences with an all-star ensemble cast. The film features Matt Damon as Sonny Vaccaro. Vaccaro is the aspiring sports executive who signed Jordan to his historic contract at Nike.
In addition, Ben Affleck plays Nike co-founder Phil Knight. Knight saw the prospects in Jordan when no one else did. Meanwhile, Deloris Jordan, portrayed by Viola Davis, brings a mother’s perspective to the table. Deloris fiercely advocates for her son’s worth and talent.
In addition to the main cast, the movie also features a supporting cast of talented actors. Comedian Jimmy Kimmel, who plays a fictionalized version of himself, and Jon Bernthal, who plays the head of Nike’s marketing division. Both make unforgettable cameos.
Air marks the first time Affleck directs his longtime friend and collaborator, Damon. The two have previously worked together on a number of projects, including Good Will Hunting (1997) which they co-wrote and starred in, as well as Dogma (1999) and the Jay and Silent Bob movies.
Fans Can’t-Wait to See ‘Air’
Air promises to be a riveting portrayal of the partnership between Michael Jordan and Nike that transformed the basketball world and revolutionized sneaker culture.
Fans of basketball, shoe enthusiasts, and Michael Jordan fans alike are eagerly anticipating the release of Air and are hungrily awaiting the chance to witness the story of how a rookie basketball player and a fledgling shoe company changed the game forever.
Air is scheduled to be released in theaters in April 2023.
The 1997 Halle Berry-starring movie B.A.P.S. has a bit of a complicated legacy, in that it was critically panned upon release but has since become a memorable cult classic. Apparently, there has been talk of a remake, and in a recent interview with Slashfilm, director Robert Townsend said that “everybody from Megan Thee Stallion to Cardi B” has asked for his blessing to remake the film.
Cardi has put a stop to that rumor, though. In a tweet shared earlier today (March 9), Cardi quote-tweeted a post dismissing the rumor and added, “I don’t even know where that rumor even came about….Maybe because we looked soo cute in the Wap video ? …kiss kiss.”

In a 2021 interview, Berry reflected on the film’s main characters, Denise “Nisi” and Tamika “Mickey,” saying, “I knew it at the time that they would be beloved, you know? […] It was a real depiction of us in a really beautiful way and it takes one to be one, to know one, to understand it really, you know what I mean? […] I get so much more love for Boomerang and B.A.P.S. now than I ever did at the time.”
B.A.P.S. is truly iconic and ahead of its time in every way. @halleberry shares why the role of Nisi became so important to the culture.
