All About Memphis Hitmaker Moneybagg Yo

Memphis has long been underrated as one of the epicenters of hip-hop. While most regard areas such as Atlanta as the defining scope for rap in the Southeast corner of the United States, Memphis has been making plenty of noise. Furthermore, the city is known for pioneering a subgenre of hip-hop known as “crunk.” Rising from the gutter of Memphis, Moneybagg Yo went from frequently not affording electricity to one of the city’s leading spokespersons. Recently announced a new album, Hard to Love, 2023 is a big year for Moneybagg Yo.

Moneybagg Yo started in 2012, releasing a slew of mixtapes. Like many upcoming rappers, he stayed consistent with the hopes that he’d be noticed by a bigger name. That big break would come when he signed to Yo Gotti’s record label, Collective Music Group, in 2017. However, Moneybagg Yo saw moderate success before the deal with Federal Reloaded and ELO: Everybody Lives On. Artists such as Future later revealed that they had been long-time fans of his sound.

After a decade of patient dedication, he’s propelled himself from a 20-year-old scraping together mixtapes to a Billboard chart-topping rapper. Regarding signing the artist, Yo Gotti stated, “From one artist to another, I just think he’s someone who’s created a real buzz and a real demand for his music. With me being an artist myself, I know how hard it is. Any artist who starts from their own from the ground up, I respect it.” With Yo Gotti being a multi-decade-long veteran of the game, he’s been able to shortcut Moneybagg Yo to stardom since signing him.

It all started with 2 Federal, a collaborative mixtape between Moneybagg Yo and Yo Gotti. Featuring a signature Memphis sound, the project’s booming 808s and street cred bars gave Moneybagg Yo industry-wide notoriety. The mixtape’s success further enabled him to work with many A-listers in the hip-hop industry over the coming years. His delayed gratification in the industry adds to his comprehensive lyricism in many ways. From his best friend Elo being fatally shot to sacrificing time with his kids to focus on his music, he’s also proven in a short time that he has an endless array of engaging stories to tell.

Moneybagg Yo Is Set for A Big 2023

After the release of 2 Federal, Moneybagg Yo would continue to grow as a solo artist. Projects such as Gangsta’s Pain and A Gangsta’s Pain: Reloaded featured the likes of Lil Durk and Lil Wayne, reaching the No. 1 spot on the Billboard charts in 2021. “Wokesha” and “Time Today” quickly morphed into moshpit anthems throughout the trap scene. Even going as far as collaborating with Pharrell Williams in the studio, he’s become one of hip-hop’s loudest voices out of the South.

That voice is set to return in 2023. Moneybagg Yo also recently announced his new album, Hard to Love: Heartless Edition. The project is slated to release on May 26th. He’s already released the lead single, “Motion God,” which has surpassed 5 million streams on Spotify in weeks. In addition, Moneybagg Yo has already confirmed that he’ll be releasing multiple new albums this calendar year. Well-known for his clockwork output of music, his associates describe him as an obsessive hard worker.

He Plans To Grow Beyond Music

However, his plans go far beyond the confines of music. When asked about his next move, he stated, “But when I say [on top of the game], I’m saying for everything, you’re speaking on music. I’m saying clothes, movies, all-around brands, different stuff. This is the space I’m in. Building the celebrity up.” It’s clear that the likes of Diddy and Jay-Z have influenced the hip-hop space for good, with successful artists now consistently looking to dive into various ventures beyond music. In fact, Moneybagg Yo recently opened his own restaurant in Memphis. Reportedly featuring a $135 steak, he certainly knows how to generate headlines and bring attention to his business.

The 31-year-old’s career is just getting off the ground. Sporting a Spotify monthly listener mark of over 10 million, he’s also one of the biggest names in the trap game. Now looking to dive into the world of television, it’s hard to doubt his initiative and tunnel vision mindset. Slated to release the new album Hard to Love: Heartless Edition and an additional project, 2023 could be Moneybagg Yo’s biggest year.

Moneybagg Yo’s High-Flying ‘Motion God’ Video Celebrates With His Bread Gang Brothers

With his new album Hard To Love coming soon, Moneybagg Yo rolls out his latest single, the Cash Money-inspired “Motion God.” The song, produced by T-Head and Skywalker OG, employs a throwback bounce-inflected beat, while Bagg boasts, “Plenty fancy cars / It’s a whole lot of motion involved / Diamonds and tattoos cover my scars / New Cadillac bulletproof, cost three-hundred large.”

The video sees Bagg celebrating his Bread Gang compatriots, setting up a “Last Supper”-esque spread outside of a Miami mansion, where the crew flashes stacks of cash and big chains while low-key cosplaying as Cash Money Records rappers circa “the ’99 and the 2000.” In separate scenes, Bagg shows off his cars and a motorcycle (adorned by two bikini-clad beauties, naturally), and even raps in front of a helicopter while repping his hometown Grizzlies with a throwback jersey from their Vancouver days. The Grizz are currently tied 1-1 with the Lakers in the first round of the playoffs, so maybe this will give them the extra boost they need to overcome.

Although Hard To Love doesn’t have a release date yet, Moneybagg has already released the singles “Quickie” and “On Wat U On.” In his Uproxx cover story, Bagg said the album “is really personal, but I know the world is going to relate to it because of the stuff I’m saying, the subject matter, I know people going through what I went through across the globe.”

Moneybagg Yo To Drop Single “Motion God” This Friday

It looks like Moneybagg Yo is well on his way to releasing new material. The rapper had previously given his fans reassurance that his new album is on its way. Like many artists, Moneybagg took a break between albums. However, fans have been eagerly awaiting news about his new material. Luckily for them, during an Instagram live video, Moneybagg Yo shared that the album is “real close” to completion. The album release date has yet to be confirmed. However, we do know that it will be titled Hard To Love and consist of 22 tracks.

Moneybagg Yo’s previous album, A Gangsta’s Pain, was his fourth studio album and was well-received by critics. It topped the Billboard Hot 100 and was certified platinum, a significant accomplishment in the music industry these days. Moneybagg Yo is no stranger to platinum certifications, though, and he even refers to himself as a “certified hitmaker.” Given his label’s standards, they will likely take the time necessary to ensure that the forthcoming album’s release is done right. Now, it looks like they are ready to set things in motion.

Moneybagg Yo Is A “Motion God”

In a new Instagram post today, Moneybagg Yo confirmed the release date of his new single. “Motion God” will be released this Friday. In a conversation with Uproxx, the rapper and entrepreneur spoke about his approach to the new album. “I’m more vulnerable on this project than I ever been because of what I went through in the last two years,” he said. “I experienced a lot and endured a lot. I went through a lot. So, this album is really personal, but I know the world is going to relate to it because of the stuff I’m saying, the subject matter, I know people going through what I went through across the globe.”

In the clip from his new music video that Moneybagg posted alongside the announcement, he raps about being free and covering his trauma with new, beautiful things. “It’s the same process,” the rapper said, speaking about writing the his new music. “Ain’t nothing too much changed with the process. I had just had real personal life situations that threw me off and pushed me back during that time of making this album.” Are you excited for new Moneybagg Yo single? Sound off in the comments!

Moneybagg Yo Inches Closer To A New Project With His Upcoming Single, ‘Motion God’

Moneybagg Yo has been newly revealed as Uproxx‘s April cover star, and he shed light on what can be expected from Hard To Love, his fifth studio album due out later this year.

“I’m more vulnerable on this project than I ever been because of what I went through in the last two years,” Moneybagg Yo said. “I experienced a lot and endured a lot. I went through a lot. So, this album is really personal, but I know the world is going to relate to it because of the stuff I’m saying, the subject matter, I know people going through what I went through across the globe.”

On Wednesday, April 19, the same day his Uproxx cover story dropped, Moneybagg Yo gave fans an even more tangible glimpse into what’s ahead by teasing “Motion God,” his single arriving this Friday, April 21.

“It’s time Hope Y’all Ready,” he captioned a teaser of the presumed “Motion God” video, accompanied by numerous flame emojis. “Album ?/?/23 [looking eyes emoji].”

Moneybagg Yo drops bars such as “in the air, I’m free as a bird” and “diamonds and tattoos cover my scars” in the clip.

“It’s the same process,” the Memphis rapper noted to Uproxx, speaking about his mindset toward music. “Ain’t nothing too much changed with the process. I had just had real personal life situations that threw me off and pushed me back during that time of making this album.”

The details will be in the music once Hard To Love arrives.

Moneybagg Yo Seemingly Responds To Pricey Steak At Restaurant

A lot of people debated whether $135 dollars is an adequate price for a 40 oz. Tomahawk steak at Moneybagg Yo’s newly opened restaurant, Cache 42. However, it seems like the Memphis MC chimed in on the debate via an Instagram post. “Pay What You Weigh Love,” he wrote as the caption of a picture of himself. While it’s just an unassuming picture and caption, the context surrounding the worth of payment certainly makes it hard to not make the connection. On one hand, many people lamented the steep price for a cut of meat with no sides. On the other, some argued that such a hunk of beef could feed four people with ease.

Regardless, this controversy will likely just add more notoriety and attention to Cache 42, which opened in early April. Of course, the fact that a Tomahawk is on the menu at all should suggest that it’ll hit your pockets a bit deeper than other places. Still, this is a young business with not even two weeks of experience as of writing this article. As such, only time will tell how it continues to build, adapt, and bring its culinary treats to patrons of ranging financial situations.

Moneybagg Yo Apparently Responds To Overpriced Steak Debate At Cache 42

Unfortunately for the “Wokescha” rapper, this isn’t the only controversy that hit Cache 42. Shortly after opening, Moneybagg Yo got into a social media spat with his alleged baby mama Poison Ivy concerning a fake Facebook page of the restaurant. Moreover, Ivy shared a post that talked down on Yo’s relationship with Ari Fletcher, simultaneously dissing and praising her and Ivy. Then, the 31-year-old called cap on Facebook and asked fans to report the page.

“If Y’all Love Me Report This Fake Capp A** S**t!!” he wrote. “It’s Some Weird Ppl In this World Just Be Wanting To Go Viral For Wateva S**t Sad Bra REPORT THIS PAGE CACHE 42 DONT HAVE A REAL FB PAGE YET!” Of course, Moneybagg and Ari’s relationship apparently grew rocky recently, but it seems like this was a step too far. Regardless, let us know what you think of the $135 steak debate and the Bread Gang artist’s response down below. Also, log back into HNHH for the latest news and updates on Moneybagg Yo.
