Eve Clarifies JAY-Z’s Alleged Controversial Comment About Female Rappers

Eve says that her comments on JAY-Z telling her that female rappers “don’t really do that well” from her memoir, Who’s That Girl?, are being misconstrued. She had recalled the legendary rapper making the remark as a warning to her back in 1999 ahead of the release of her debut album, Let There Be Eve…Ruff Ryders’ First Lady. She provided more context to the conversation during an appearance on The Breakfast Club on Tuesday.

“That was one of those things we were like, ‘Do we put that in?’ Because you know how people get,” she explained. “It was nothing bad about that. It was one of those things where it was a very amazing phone call that I needed.” She continued: “That was one of those I always felt like I was the underdog anyway. He wasn’t saying it out of malice or mean. It was facts, really. But I was like, eh, OK, let me see. I’ma show you. It’s all good. And it went on to be fine. Like I say in the book, we all have that person.”

In the memoir, Eve discussed overcoming the number of men who doubted her ability to achieve success in hip-hop. “The audacity that these men had,” she wrote in the book. “Now I have age and experience on my side, nobody’s coming at me like that.” Let There Be Eve…Ruff Ryders’ First Lady ended up selling over 200,000 copies in the first week and has since been certified Double Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. It features the popular singles “Gotta Man” and “Love Is Blind.”

Eve Claims Jay-Z Warned Her About Female Rap Not Being Successful

Eve will release her memoir Who’s That Girl? tomorrow (Tuesday, September 17), and we just got a sneak peek at the tea within. Moreover, she recently spoke to The Times for an interview, reflecting on her experiences with misogyny in the industry. The femcee talks about much of this in the book, but she elaborated on some details. For example, the memoir reportedly recalled the day that her debut album Let There Be Eve… The Ruff Ryders First Lady in 1999, an album that sold 213K first week and over 2 million units since. The Philly native alleged that Jay-Z called her to congratulate her, but also told her to diminish her expectations because female rappers “don’t really do that well.”

This comes after another Jay-Z versus femcee conversation, as Nicki Minaj recently blasted the team behind the Super Bowl halftime show next year. She feels, like many fans, that it should’ve been Lil Wayne instead of Kendrick Lamar given its New Orleans stage. No matter where you fall on that debate, this opened up old wounds between Young Money and the Roc… Or at least, the few wounds in between their many associations and mutual praises. We wonder what Eve would say about all this.

Jay-Z Allegedly “Warned” Eve About Female Rap

We ask because she’s been nothing short of a star since her debut. Beyond the celebrity and career, though, the contributions run much deeper. Eve recently announced that she will be a Scholar-In-Residence at NYU this year. “We are thrilled to be hosting Eve as our 2024-25 Scholar in Residence,” the Steinhardt school’s Dean Jack H. Knott expressed. “She will share the expertise she’s gained as an award-winning artist in music, film, and television, as well as a philanthropist working with young people in the arts. I know our students and faculty will learn from her engagement and support of our efforts to advance equity, belonging, and innovation.”

“Ya’ll, I can’t believe I am saying this. But I am thrilled to announce I will be joining the 2024-25 Scholar-in-Residence at NYU’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development,” Eve stated on social media. “My year-long residency kicks off September 21 with a welcoming event at NYU. I want people to get an understanding of who I am as a person outside of music. I am looking forward to getting to know the NYU community.”

Whoopi Goldberg Admits To Battling Cocaine Addiction In The 80s

Today, Whoopi Goldberg released her new memoir, Bits and Pieces: My Mother, My Brother, and Me. The book encompasses her early life, growing up in New York City with her family, and the obstacles she faced as a young adult. At one point in her memoir, Goldberg details her battle with cocaine addiction in the 80s. She recalled realizing that she needed to clean up her act when a housekeeper found her lying on a closet floor.

“I had stayed pretty far away from drugs, except for pot, after getting cleaned up in the early ‘70s,” she explains. ”But Los Angeles and New York started to redefine what ‘recreational drug use’ meant in the ‘80s.” She continues, “It was a really good time for about a year. Then I fell into the deep well of cocaine and sank to a new low. Nobody around me caught on to where I was at with it. At least, that’s what I wanted to believe. I would have called myself ‘a very high-functioning addict.’

Whoopi Goldberg Recalls Telling Herself, “Fix Your Life”

That didn’t last for long, however, as Goldberg soon found herself at a new low after a two-day binge at a hotel. “Cocaine started to kick my a**,” she recalls. “I’d go to work and realize I was getting sloppy. I was sitting on the closet floor, just putting it up my nose,” she says. “All by myself. I didn’t hear the housekeeper knock or let herself in the room to clean it up.”

“I looked at myself in the mirror near the door and saw cocaine all over my face,” she admits. “Get up, get out, and fix your life,” she recalls telling herself. “’You’ve been sitting in a closet for two days. It’s not good.’ I had already decided that I was willing and ready to stop, so I was going to do whatever I needed to stop putting drugs up my nose.” What do you think of Whoopi Goldberg opening up about battling drug addiction in the 80s? Jada Pinkett Smith Fires Back At Critics Of Her Memoir, “Worthy”

Jada Pinkett Smith has responded to critics of her new memoir, Worthy. Appearing on The Breakfast Club, she took particular aim at Ana Navarro, who slammed the book during a recent episode of The View. Navarro accused Jada of intentionally embarrassing her husband, Will Smith, for book sales. She said at the time: “I don’t wanna read the book. I don’t wanna give them another dime for her emasculating and embarrassing him to everybody in the world.”

“Well, I think if she took time to read the book, you know? I think that, if you wanna just read headlines, I could see how that could be confusing,” Jada said in response. “But the book is right here.” She added that everyone has “a right to their opinions” and claimed “anybody who’s saying that hasn’t really done their homework.”

Writing about her marriage to Will Smith in Worthy, Jada explains that the two consider their relationship “transparent” instead of “open.” “As long as we had each other’s trust, we could work through anything,” she says. “The solution then was to create an agreement to help build that trust by which we would never be in a position to lie to each other.” Check out her comments on The Breakfast Club below.

Black Thought Recalls Nearly Coming To Blows With Questlove

Black Thought says he once nearly fought his The Roots co-founder, Questlove, during the early years of the group in the 1990s. He discussed the incident during a new interview with NPR ahead of the release of his upcoming book, The Upcycled Self.

“We had a brief sort of scuffle, kerfuffle, a little 30-second altercation when we were young and just starting out,” he told the outlet. “We were displaced, living in London and there was just lots of angst and anxiety … with all the energy associated with anyone’s first time putting out a record. … So, yeah, just the perfect storm of events.”

He continued: “It led to us coming to blows right quick. And it was the sort of thing that I’d forgotten about it before we left the place [where] it had taken place. But I think it’s the sort of thing that it stuck with him in a different way. Is it a grudge that he’s held? I don’t think so. But I definitely don’t think it’s something that he has ever forgotten.” Despite nearing fighting back in the day, the two have maintained a close friendship for decades. Questlove celebrated Black Thought’s 50th birthday by digging up a rare photo of the two in high school. He described it as the first picture they ever took together. “Took forever finding this photo we took back in high school in 1988,” he wrote on social media, last month, labeling Black Thought a “cool kid” and himself a “dweeb.” “Our first ever photo. I’m not even sure if we were Radioactivity yet. I wish I could let these two know the journey that lay ahead for them.”

Black Thought’s The Upcycled Self will be hitting bookshelves on November 14. Be on the lookout for further updates on the memoir on HotNewHipHop.

Timbaland Walks Back “Muzzle” Statement About Britney Spears

A few months ago, producing extraordinaire, Timbaland made some controversial comments during a recent interview. The misogynistic-like statement was given during a live interview with 9th Wonder at the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. It took place right before the end of October. What led to putting himself into hot water was that someone asked about the revived buzz around “Cry Me a River.” This is according to Billboard.

This popular song, of course, was produced by Timbaland and landed on Justin Timberlake’s 2002 album, Justified. The renewed talk is due in part because of Britney Spears’ memoir, The Woman in Me. It came out before the interview happened. Timberlake’s album is widely viewed as a response to his splitting with the pop star after dating from 1999-2002. That is when Timbaland made the comment, “She going crazy, right? I wanted to call and say, ‘JT, you gotta put a muzzle on that girl.’” It went viral on social media and after all the backlash, Timbaland decided to issue an apology.

Timbaland Takes It Back

According to Fader, this was his apology. He says, “I’m sorry to all the Britney fans, even to her. I’m sorry because muzzle was—no, you have a voice. You speak what you want to speak. Who am I to tell you what not to speak?” Timbaland continues, “And I was wrong for saying that. I was looking at it from a different lens and what I am is a reconcile person. I’m not a person who takes sides… I apologize to the Britney fans and her.” The reason for him using “muzzle” is because of some serious and personal issues that Britney wanted to reveal to the readers. That includes going through an abortion and more.

What are your initial thoughts on Timbaland apologizing for his comments about Britney Spears? Do you think it will be a situation where he moves on fairly unscathed? Will Britney Spears respond to the producer’s comment, or move on from it? We would like to hear what you have to say about all of this. With that in mind, be sure to leave all of your thoughts and opinions in the comments section below. Additionally, always keep it locked in with HNHH for all of the latest breaking news around Timbaland and Britney Spears, as well as everything else going on in the pop culture world.

Rick Ross Shares Thoughts On Jada Pinkett Smith And Her Memior: “Come On Jada, Chill Out Baby”

Rick Ross is making headlines with his candid opinions on actress Jada Pinkett Smith and her newly released memoir, Worthy. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, the rapper didn’t hold back, expressing his strong sentiments about Jada’s book tour and the personal revelations it contained. Jada’s memoir delved into the intricate details of her life and her relationship with husband Will Smith. The book left no stone unturned, offering an intimate look at the ups and downs of their marriage. Rick Ross had previously voiced his disapproval, particularly concerning how Jada openly discussed her and Will’s private matters, causing him to reevaluate his own perspective on marriage.

In his recent interview with Rolling Stone, Rick Ross did not mince words when asked about Jada’s book tour. Rozay made his opinion clear when he said he doesn’t agree with Jada. He also said that she felt she was out of touch. “I don’t think I agree with Jada Pinkett,” he said. “To me, she’s psychologically lost and needs some counseling. Jesus! What are you going to tell us next? When you tell us you haven’t been together in six years, you haven’t had sex in this many years, you don’t have a prenuptial agreement — OK, what’s next?”

Furthermore, he continued by expressing that “I heard the book flopped because she already told us everything. No one cares. That’s what they don’t understand. Sometimes as celebrities, you can get out of touch. Will Smith isn’t the same Will Smith as he was 20 years ago. Jada Pinkett, chill out, baby!” Ross then proceeded to say that the public is not interested in further stories. “You were in the movie Set It Off, and that’s all we know you from. You got $15K for that role and that’s it. Calm down. You f**cked your son’s best friend. You said your son introduced you to psychedelics. What’s next?! And to be honest, we’re not interested! I don’t want to know if Tupac got alopecia! Jada, Rozay still got love for you, but go sit down.”

Rick Ross’ unfiltered comments reflect the divergent opinions surrounding Jada Pinkett Smith’s memoir and her candid revelations about her marriage. While some applaud her transparency, others, like Rick Ross, have reservations about it. Mostly due to the debate of the extent to which such personal matters should be shared with the public. Regardless of one’s perspective, it’s clear that Jada’s book has sparked discussions and raised questions about the boundaries between personal and public life in the realm of celebrity.

Britney Spears Traffic Stop Body Cam Footage Emerges: Watch

While much of the recent news cycle in Britney Spears’s life has been dominated by her new memoir, there have been other stories popping up. During a bit of a turbulent time for the singer where she was facing public backlash for videos she posted where she appeared to be dancing with knives, she was hit with another slight public drama. That was when it came to light that she had been pulled over twice, once in September and once in October.

Now, body cam footage of both encounters has made its way online. TMZ shared the videos, neither of which paint Britney in all that bad of a light. In both clips, she’s very apologetic and provides explanations for her actions. During the first stop, she’s asked why she doesn’t have info like her license and proof of insurance. She explained that her security usually holds onto documentation like that. In the second clip, her explanation for a traffic violation is much simpler. She explains to the officer that she just has to go to the bathroom and is in a big hurry as a result. Check out the clip of Spears’ first traffic stop below.

Spears revealed details on their time dating in the early 2000s. That included Timberlake getting her pregnant and the “excruciating” experience she had terminating the pregnancy.

It also detailed Timberlake breaking up with her via text. The text reportedly came to Britney while she was on set of the film Crossroads. Fans weren’t happy about that detail in particular and began to attack Justin online. The hate got so loud that Timberlake was forced to turn off the comments on all of his Instagram posts. Jada Pinkett-Smith Memoir Plagued By Disappointing Sales Figures

Jada Pinkett-Smith has been on a massive media run as of late. Overall, it is all because of her brand-new memoir called Worthy. This is a memoir that a lot of folks were interested in. Of course, it is easy to see why this would be the case. Her relationship with Will Smith has been under the microscope for many years at this point. Moreover, people wanted to know about what happened during that fateful night at the Oscars.

In the end, however, Pinkett-Smith ended up giving away the premise of her entire book before it even came out. Instead of letting people read the book and come away with their own headlines, Jada gave them to us for free. Consequently, it should come as no real surprise that the sales for the book have not been great. Simply put, people felt like they’d read the book already. According to The Neighborhood Talk, the memoir has failed to crack the top 100 on numerous charts, including Kindle E-reader, Barnes & Noble, and Publisher’s Weekly.
