Megan Thee Stallion might have a new mixtape coming soon, but that doesn’t mean she’s ignoring her Instagram feed in the meantime. Moreover, she recently treated fans to some new hot shots in an all-black ensemble comprised of a tight button-up, leggings, and new short hair. The Houston femcee had folks like SZA, Halsey, and more thirsting for her in the comments section. With how defined her figure looks in the photos, it’s not hard to see why. Also, Tina Snow’s always been a big sharer online, so these are just the results of her many workout videos and life updates.
But elsewhere, fans are dragging Megan Thee Stallion into seemingly unrelated scenarios, such as Nicki Minaj’s recent denial that she got Megan’s former best friend Kelsey Harris to model for her shoe line amid their beef. “The fact that @TheShadeRoom posted this LIE 5 days ago & im just now finding out,” Nicki Minaj wrote on Twitter on Sunday (October 6). “chiiiiii LOL!!!!!!! I love being booked & busy. ‘Models for my collection’? She posted a photo in my sneakers. Me, nor my company knew anything about it until she posted it.
“So she did what many ppl did when they received my sneakers, they posted a photo in them,” Nicki Minaj continued about Megan Thee Stallion’s former friend. “Kelsey def went all the way out with this professional looking backdrop tho. But she is in no way professionally connected to my sneaker brand. No matter what yall pay the Shaderoom to post, plz remember that I did a sold out record breaking tour. And was then ASKED to do a 2nd leg. Too busy & too successful for the clownery. […] Btw, did Kelsey not tell them she wasn’t modeling for the line barbz? Did she just let them think that? I gotta get caught up yall.”
Meanwhile, an upcoming documentary series on Megan Thee Stallion should give fans an interesting insight into her many endeavors. Whether it will hit with fans obviously remains to be seen, but we’d bet on it being a compelling look. Let’s see what other Instagram antics Meg gets into, whether they’re sultry or not.
Nicki Minaj and Megan Thee Stallion had a pretty nasty falling out earlier this year after a long history of subliminals and tension. Moreover, things became complicated – as rap beefs tend to evolve – thanks to the associations of each femcee and how they combated each other. For example, fans expressed shock and curiosity when Kelsey Harris, Meg’s former best friend, promoted Nicki’s shoe line on the Internet. Many took this as a direct dig at Thee Stallion, but the Trinidadian spitter recently took to Twitter to clear the air and elaborate on how she isn’t as petty as some fans assumed.
“The fact that @TheShadeRoom posted this LIE 5 days ago & im just now finding out,” Nicki Minaj tweeted on Sunday night (October 6). “chiiiiii LOL!!!!!!! I love being booked & busy. ‘Models for my collection’? She posted a photo in my sneakers. Me, nor my company knew anything about it until she posted it. So she did what many ppl did when they received my sneakers, they posted a photo in them. Kelsey def went all the way out with this professional looking backdrop tho…but she is in no way professionally connected to my sneaker brand.
“No matter what yall pay the Shaderoom to post, plz remember that I did a sold out record breaking tour. And was then ASKED to do a 2nd leg,” Nicki Minaj continued. “Too busy & too successful for the clownery. These calculated, planned stories & narratives everytime yall gotta promote is only make me feel even more like I’m that B!CH!!!!! no confidence in your talents & abilities as labels to sell albums or ANYTHING. So you waste money & energy on this. #GagCityMIAMI TONIGHT!!!! Btw, did Kelsey not tell them she wasn’t modeling for the line barbz? Did she just let them think that? I gotta get caught up yall. lol chiiiiiii WOO WEE!!!!!!!! BOOF ON. MAKEUP CHAIR.”
Meanwhile, another Nicki Minaj-related debunk emerged recently. Cardi B clapped back at folks who claimed she was stealing her memes. That seems like quite the ridiculous thing to argue over, but then again, there’s a lot of history making these small rifts loom large.
Megan Thee Stallion and Nicki Minaj are never going to get along. These two truly despise each other, and they have the records to prove it. Megan Thee Stallion got a solo number one single thanks to her Minaj diss, “HISS,” at the top of the year. Anything these two engage in that is connected to the other is not likely to be accidental. Which is what makes the rollout for Nicki Minaj’s new shoe line so interesting. It looks like the former Young Money rapper decided to link up with Megan Thee Stallion’s former friend, Kelsey Nicole, in the process.
Kelsey Nicole is a musical artist and model. Consequently, she appeared in a new photoshoot to promote the Minaj line Loci. Multiple photos were released online, in which Nicole is modeling the new in different settings. Kelsey Nicole’s friendship, and subsequent falling out, with Megan Thee Stallion, has been well detailed over the years. If we’re to go by Occam’s razor, which states that the simplest solution is often the right one, then Minaj chose her model very carefully. She’s promoting her business while taking a dig at her enemy.
Kelsey Nicole may not be as famous as Megan or Tory Lanez. But she was allegedly present during the infamous incident in which Megan was shot. Lanez is currently serving prison time for shooting Megan. That said, the rapper’s defense attorney actually suggested that Nicole handled the firearm instead. It was actually posited that Lanez physically struck Kelsey Nicole after the shooting took place, in an effort to disarm her. The jury obviously didn’t buy it, and found Lanez guilty.
Kelsey Nicole denies shooting Megan Thee Stallion, but does admit she was present when the shooting took place. She also told iHeartRadio that she was “betrayed” by Megan that night. “It was challenging for me to come forward,” Nicole admitted. “I wanted to ensure that my words were not fueled by anger.” She admits that she had a falling out with someone she previously considered her best friend. The two artists have not been close since. It’ll be interesting see if Kelsey Nicole and Nicki Minaj have even more collabs planned for the future.
Megan Thee Stallion has been one of the biggest rappers of the 2020s. She’s also been one of the most polarizing. Megan has been able top drop massive singles, including a few number ones. She’s also been involved in behind-the-scenes drama that has boosted her public profile. The rapper has won a criminal trial against Tory Lanez, and a beef against Nicki Minaj. There’s no shortage of things to talk about when it comes to Megan Thee Stallion, which is why she’s getting her own documentary.
In Her Own Words will be a multi-part series, according to Variety. The documentary will chronicle the last two years of Megan Thee Stallion’s life. Years that have been characterized, as we mentioned, by staggering highs and very public lows. In Her Own Words is directed by Nneka Onuorah, who did an exemplary job with the Lizzo release, Watch Out for the Big Grrrls. The documentary was announced back in 2022, and fortunately, fans won’t have to wait long to watch it. In Her Own Words will land on Amazon Prime Video on October 31.
The overriding goal of the documentary is to set the record straight on Megan Thee Stallion’s life. She’s been the focus of countless allegations and rumors. “You’ve heard the hot takes and read the stories — now go straight to the source,” the description for In Her Own Words stated. This is not the first time the rapper has been the subject of a documentary. Megan’s legal battle with Tory Lanez was a topic of exploration in the recent Max release Megan Thee Stallion vs Tory Lanez: Five Shots.
Megan has not spoken at length about the documentary, but she talk to Billboard about her business ventures. She made it clear that she’s in complete control of her image at this point. “I’m proud of all my business deals because everything I do is personal to me,” she stated. “I put 100% into my partnerships, and I’m always so grateful when people want to step into my world.” This includes her endorsement of Presidential nominee Kamala Harris as well as her music. The rapper recently performed at a Kamala Harris rally, and her self-titled album topped Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart in June.
A recent phone call has Todd White’s head spinning.
“I just had a call today and learned that I need to put together a mood board for a music video that, potentially, has 16–20 looks,” he says, shocked, over the call. “I’ve never done anything like that before.” As if that’s not wild enough, the tight timeline to which he potentially has to adhere makes it even scarier. “You get these calls sometimes where you have 48 hours to pull something like this together.”
Easy-peasy — at least for a stylist and costume designer of White’s caliber. He’s an industry heavyweight, a creative director who’s been tapped by rap’s leading women like Megan Thee Stallion, Latto, and Coi Leray to curate the iconic looks you see get tens and thousands of likes on social media. No matter whether they’re shutting down the red carpet, gracing the cover of a magazine, or filming a leading commercial, White’s fingerprints can be found all over their fittings —- and he’s just getting started.
It all came from sending one direct message in 2017 that changed his life forever. “I always say yikes because I feel like without that moment I wouldn’t be here,” he says. “I’m so grateful that I just took that chance.”
White didn’t just wake up a few years ago and say, “I want to be a stylist.” Since he was a kid in Cincinnati, he had a serious love for all things fashion. “I’ve always been attracted to art in general, but specifically fashion just because of the glam of it all, luxury designers, and the celebrity aspect.” When he turned 16, he decided to pursue it after graduating from high school.
That’d lead him to Kent State to study fashion merchandising. While he was there, he became even more immersed in fashion, with a job at Forever 21 inspiring him to focus on women’s fashion design. White collaborated with a friend around this time, who studied photography, to create Fashion Haus — a showcase for their creative direction skills. “I kind of came up with this idea with my photographer friend at the time for how we can practice for the future,” says White. “The idea was, I’d style, he’ll shoot, and we’ll come up with concepts for people who want to build a portfolio for modeling or if someone has a brand, and they need some sort of creative concept for an upcoming release.”
At the same time that White was waist deep in preparation for his fashion career, Megan Thee Stallion was exploding onto the rap scene after making “The Houston Cypher” her bitch and dropping her debut EP Make It Hot in 2017. Her aura and lyricism were unmatched. Anybody who was anybody knew that she was next up. White discovered her music around this time and instantly became a fan. Wanting to become a part of her story, he decided to shoot his shot and hop into her Instagram DMs with a proposition.
“I got hip to her music and was really inspired by her,” he says. “One late night, I just randomly decided that I would DM her and see about the possibility of styling her for upcoming shows and projects.” Not anticipating a response, he was shocked when she got back to him pretty quickly. “I can’t remember if it was the next morning or a few hours later, but I know it didn’t take that long,” he recalls. “This was a time when she only had about a hundred thousand followers.”
After that message, he linked up with her a few weeks later. “We met in New York while I was there for fashion week,” he explains. “She had a show, so we connected and vibed. We really hit it off. After that, I would meet her in other cities to dress her or at least help with whatever she would wear.”
As Megan grew in popularity and people started to see her as a fashion icon, White’s styling work got its share of the spotlight. “Our work during that era was huge because of the mega star that she’s turned into,” he says. “That opened up doors for me to get other people’s attention.”
Those “other people” are some of the biggest stars you see on social media and hear on top playlists, like Latto, who he’s draped in custom threads from Onrushw23fh and Michael Schmidt, and Uproxx Cover Star Coi Leray, who he’s laced in Karl Kani. He continuously finds creative ways to capture his clients’ personalities in clothing. To do this, White has an ideal process that helps him come up with these iconic looks.
“Most of the time, I’m turning on some music, and I’m deep diving into whatever creative may have been shared with me by the artist,” he says. “Depending on who you’re working with, you have to dissect what era they’re in at that time so it all makes sense. Then, I’m doing a deep dive. I’m on Pinterest, I’m on Instagram, I’m on TikTok. I want every platform that has anything to do with fashion, and I’m pulling references, I’m taking notes on up-and-coming designers, [and] I’m looking at seeing what is current from a runway show.”
“This process takes me a few days,” he continues. “Once I get that mood board or creative of what I see, I like to hop on the phone with the client to go through everything. Because more times than not, you’ll come up with a really nice mood board and not get any notes or have any notes. And then the day of the shoot comes and the artist, the client can hate everything — which usually only happens if there’s not been any communication.”
White is very open and honest about not just his process, but also how clients can react. There are times when people will love his creative direction. Other times, they can find issues with it — which is par the course when you’re a stylist working with so many different clients. “You want people to like everything that you do, but you’re not going to always get that reaction,” he admits. “Sometimes they hate it, and you have to come up with something completely different, or they love it, but things could be better.”
Tight turnaround times for creativity can also put a damper on the process — but even those can work out too. “I’ve had clients where we’ve had 24 to 48 hours to put everything together, including fitting on the day of the shoot, and things go bad,” he says. “But then somehow, at the end of the day, the shoot ends up turning out great and the client is thrilled. Those are the moments, the stressful days, that I live for.
“Something as simple as an assistant not showing up on time or a UPS delivery arriving late can really throw off a shoot — but when the final shot is wrapped, you’re able to reflect and be excited that you pulled off something nicely together,” he adds.
White has no plans to stop styling anytime soon, even though he’s achieved practically everything he’s ever wanted — but there are even bigger aspirations that he’s been thinking about pursuing. “I would love to get into film -— specifically, horror films,” he says. “In a perfect world, I’d love to do a slasher film and be a part of the costume design and wardrobe.”
Megan Thee Stallion has been through a couple of rap-related beefs at this point, whether it’s with Nicki Minajthis year or others. However, it turns out that she already discussed how her success could cause more problems with other artists in a 2019 interview with Joe Budden, a clip of which recently resurfaced. “I don’t have a problem with anybody,” she remarked, with him saying that every new act thinks the same at first. “And I don’t think nobody have a problem with me that I know about, you know what I’m saying? So, you know, if you want me to know that you have a problem with me, you would really have to blatantly be like, ‘Megan Thee Stallion, da da da da da,’ dissing me. ‘Cause I just don’t even be paying attention to negativity. So I would never know who don’t like me at all.”
“That is the same thing that Drake said to me in 2009,” Joe Budden recalled, which is ironic given Drizzy and Megan Thee Stallion’s feud, plus Joe’s own issues with the Toronto superstar. “So I’ma say to you like I said to him. In the event that you sell the records that me and your label and everyone thinks you will sell… They coming.” “If they come, let’s just keep it in the booth, you know? I’m with that,” Megan answered, which really excited Budden. “We got a f***ing rapper on our hands!” he exclaimed.
Megan Thee Stallion Speaks On Rap Beef & Success In Old Joe Budden Interview Clip
“I like to rap, so come on,” Megan Thee Stallion replied. “That’s what you do. It wouldn’t be rap if it wasn’t some type of rap beef. So, you know? I ain’t tripping.” Budden characterized this as “attractive.” “All the new girls that I’m cool with?” she continued. “Like, I try to keep us, you know, all together. We coming up right now, you know what I’m saying? So, come on girl, come meet me. Come hang out. Like, I’m having a party, come through, let’s all get to know each other. Let’s be cool because when the fans see that the girls are being nice to each other, that makes them lessen that drama.
“‘Cause a lot of beef between women gets started because of they fanbases, I feel like,” Megan Thee Stallion concluded. “So you got to just make sure that everybody cool, like, on every end. So your fans won’t get to, like, you know, making little messy stuff about everybody. I just try to make sure, ‘Look, you good? We good? Alright.’ So, you know? And it’s genuine. Everybody that I’ve met so far, actually, we’re really on FaceTime. Like, I got their number, like, everything real cool.” Budden made a point about Megan really “kicking it with people,” and she agreed.
In July 2019, the phrase “hot girl summer” went viral on social media, spawning tons of memes, tweets, and posts, all thanks to the song by the same name, written by Houston rapper Megan Thee Stallion (born Megan Pete). Writing a hit track is hard enough — but writing a track that acts as a permanent pop culture reference point while also shouting out your respect for higher learning (i.e. And who gon’ tell him that my bitch is getting her degree?)? Well, that’s basically impossible. But not for Meg.
In 2021, two years after releasing her Billboard-topping hit, Meg crossed the stage at Texas Southern University, one of the nation’s largest historically Black colleges and universities, scooping up a bachelor of science degree in health administration. She’d also foreshadowed this moment in her hit track “Thot Shit,” confidently rattling off “2021, finna graduate college,” and even took fans along for the ride with her as they celebrated her with a new viral hashtag, #MeganTheeGraduate. It was the same year she won Best New Artist at the Grammys, making it even more remarkable that despite already achieving career success, she prioritized getting her degree. And it wasn’t easy.
Meg started her studies at another HBCU near Houston, Prairie View A&M University. However, her initial plan to nab a nursing degree while on campus was put on pause when she decided to pursue a rap career, uploading freestyle videos online. Still, even after she left Prarie View she continued to study at community colleges before deciding to return to Texas Southern University. Somehow, while performing and topping charts, she found a way to take five classes in one semester, according to Rolling Stone. “Every time I had an assignment or something due, one of my managers would just pull me to the side and be like, ‘Hey Megan, you know you got to do this presentation today.’ Or ‘Hey Megan, you know you got to turn this assignment in today,’” she told the magazine. Around that same time, she tweeted to her fans (aka Hotties) reminding them of the endless possibilities education could offer them: “My college experience has been a roller coaster! I started at PV went to some community colleges in between and I’m ending at TSU. Don’t get discouraged! You can chase your dreams and your education at the same time.” Reading the thread of responses, you can see Meg’s impact. One follower responded, “You’ve been one of my biggest influences in continuing with my education while also trying to pursue my music career. I hope to get there one day, thank you so much Meg!” Another shared, “Congratulations to #MeganTheeGraduate working and being in school is NOT easy by any means. To have someone at the height of their career showing people that education is STILL valuable is something that needs to be celebrated.”
And Meg’s push for access to higher education didn’t stop with herself. In 2019, she hosted a beauty pageant with a $2,500 scholarship prize because, “I know that tuition ain’t no joke,” she told the New York Times. “So if I could do something to help somebody else, then I thought that would be nice.” She also worked with the Roc Nation School of Music, Sports & Entertainment to give out two $10,000 scholarships to women of color. Her alma mater TSU even started Thee Megan Fund, a scholarship pool to assist more hot girls in graduating. She’s also shared that her ultimate goals is to use her degree to open assisted living facilities, hiring new graduates so they can get the job experience fresh grads rarely receive. In February 2022, she launched the Pete and Thomas Foundation, named in honor of her parents. The foundation provides scholarships, school supplies, and resources to help students in under-served communities.
For Meg, keeping her late mother – who passed away in 2019 from brain cancer – and her late grandmother in the back of her head allowed her not to give up while working towards her degree. “Before they passed away, they saw me going to college and they were really hard on me about finishing college, so I was like, you know what? I’m not just doing it for myself, I’m doing it for them too. I want them to be so proud,” she told Rolling Stone. Chatting with Billboard, the Texas emcee explained why her family ties were also the reason she wanted to get her degree from an HBCU. “I feel like I’m making all of the women in my family proud,” she said. “All the women in my family went to HBCUs. I’m just going down the legacy of doing the same thing of fully college-educated women. I definitely just had to keep making them proud, and I had to make myself proud. I had to prove to myself that I can finish it, and I did even in the middle of my chaotic life. I just also wanted to show the Hotties that you can do whatever you put your mind to. So I’m super proud to have graduated from an HBCU.”
Meg’s been putting those smarts to great use. Earlier this year, she linked a historic deal with Warner Music Group, that will allow her full rights as an independent musician while also having access to the music company’s global services, ranging from radio promotion to marketing worldwide. Now, all Meg’s music is released through Hot Girl Productions – her independent music and entertainment entity. The deal also gave her full creative freedom over her music releases.
Going from Grammy winner to graduate may have not been an easy task for the Head Hottie, but she’s continuing to use her HBCU education to inspire her fans, beyond her music. As she told her millions of followers after her commencement ceremony: “I want y’all to remember that you can do whatever you wanna do and be whoever you wanna be, cause look at me!”
It looks like Megan Thee Stallion isn’t yet done rolling out new music for 2024. Ahead of the release of her new album, Megan, the Houston Hottie shared plenty of promo material featuring chrysalis imagery, to reflect the new stage of her career and life she was entering (even as some fans protested that it was inconsistent with the reptile theming she used to kick off the rollout).
Apparently, she considers her metamorphosis complete. Meg shared a teaser on social media for something called Megan: Act Two (which is, presumably, a follow-up or extension of her new album) in which she transforms, growing butterfly-like wings. In the caption, she wrote, “Stay tuned, hotties.”
If this means new music is on the way from Thee Stallion this year, it’ll round out one busy 2024 for the big anime fan. In addition to Megan, she also joined Latto on her “Sunday Service” remix with Flo Milli, collaborated with GloRilla on “Wanna Be” and the “Wanna Be Remix” with Cardi B, and dropped “Neva Play” with RM — a song that now seems likely to end up on Megan: Act Two and is the official theme song for the WWE’s current season. Aside from those official singles, she also helped create a remake of Queen’s “We Will Rock You” for Pepsi and the NFL.
Yesterday (September 13), the WWE revealed that one of Megan Thee Stallion’s new tracks will serve as its official theme song. Over on X (formerly Twitter), the company announced that Megan Thee Stallion’s latest single “Neva Play” featuring RM (of BTS) will serve as WWE Smackdown’s new intro song.
“Friday Night #SmackDown’s new intro,” read the post. “Megan Thee Stallion’s ‘Neva Play’ featuring RM of BTS.”
WWE SmackDown’s season premiere on the USA Network yesterday seems to be a taste of what crossover they have lined up. In the past, several musicians have made a cameo either in the WWE ring (hi, Bad Bunny and Snoop Dogg) or a promotional campaign latest being Meek Mill.
So, Megan Thee Stallion super fans, the Hotties, are on high alert to see what’s next. Megan’s athletic talents extend far beyond her impressive twerking skills as her multiple workout video shared online revealed. However, only time will tell if this leads to anything further. But given Megan Thee Stallion eye for lucrative marketing opportunities it probably already is in the works.
As host of the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards, there was a lot on Megan Thee Stallion’s mind last night (Wednesday, September 11). But one thing she certainly didn’t forget about was to pay tribute to iconic VMAs history, current big moments in pop culture, and two superstars who represent these pillars to a tee. The Houston femcee recreated Beyonce’s stunning one-piece outfit in red, white, and blue that she used to introduce Team USA for the 2024 Olympic Games. Then, she replicated Britney Spears’ classic outfit for her 2001 VMAs performance of “I’m A Slave 4 U,” complete with a snake that scared the living daylights out of her. “I tried to hold it down for Britney,” Meg shared.
Of course, we know how much Megan Thee Stallion loves her Houston, Texas sister Beyoncé. “Yall i have been ugly crying with my lace lifting all weekend lol,” she expressed on Instagram, where she posted a video of her performing with Queen Bey at their home city’s RENAISSANCE tour stop. “I will never stop screaming about this moment! I have loved @beyonce MY WHOLE LIFE. This means EVERYTHING TO ME!!! I love you [queen bee emoji] thank you thank you thank you for everything.”
Elsewhere, Megan Thee Stallion hasn’t said much publicly about Britney Spears to our knowledge, but this homage certainly makes that admiration and inspiration clear. Overall, it seemed like she had a great time as host and performer. However, now fans are wondering whether the “NDA” MC is sharing these moments with a special someone, as folks recently spotted her out with Torrey Craig in New York City. New relationship rumors are hot off the presses…
Meanwhile, Megan Thee Stallion might have even more stuff planned for 2024, as she just released a single with RM titled “Neva Play.” We wonder whether or not 2025 will be as busy of a year for her, although there’s certainly a lot to compete with when you look at the past nine months or so. A full album rollout and momentary Nicki Minaj beef sound absolutely exhausting. But when you don’t have a lot of motivation, inspiration, or energy, you can always count on the OGs to give you that spark again.
