Megan Thee Stallion And Ms. Lauryn Hill Are This Year’s Headliners At Essence Fest

Essence Fest will return to New Orleans this June, with a line-up honoring hip-hop on its 50th anniversary. Today (March 29), Billboard has reported that Megan Thee Stallion and Ms. Lauryn Hill will headline the festival. This year’s Essence Festival will take place from June 29 to July 3.

According to the report, Hill will perform her debut album, The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill, in full to commemorate the album on its 25th anniversary. Also set to perform are Wizkid, Monica, Coco Jones, and Kizz Daniel. Doug E. Fresh will curate a special performance, and DJ Spinderella, DJ Kid Capri, and DJ Clark Kent will perform DJ sets. More performers will be announced soon.

The festival will also coincide with the 30th anniversary of So So Def, which will be celebrated with a performance from the label’s founder Jermaine Dupri, as well as past signees.

“For nearly three decades, the ESSENCE Festival of Culture has been an international and joyful gathering that empowers community throughout the global Black diaspora,” said newly-appointed Vice President of ESSENCE Festival of Culture, Hakeem Holmes, to the magazine. “As the nation’s largest festival by per day attendance, it continues to be a crown jewel of Black culture and plays a pivotal role in the amplification and celebration of the contributions of the Black community through business, music, and more. As we gear up to celebrate the ’50th Anniversary of Hip-Hop’, we couldn’t think of a better way to honor the contributions that genre has made on global culture and the impressions that these artists and their deep musical catalogs, which we all know so well, have been ingrained into the fibers of our day to day lives. This year, we are excited to have everyone join us in celebrating 50 years of musical excellence, experiencing our diverse daytime and nighttime offerings, and in highlighting the importance of Black economic inclusion.”

Megan Thee Stallion seems to be completely back on the scene, and fans could not be any happier about it. After staying out of the spotlight following the Tory Lanez trial, Meg has come back better than ever. Overall, she seems to be quite happy with how life has been going. The artist was at the Oscars where she revealed that new music is on the horizon. Moreover, she has been going hard at the gym, which we know thanks to some recent mirror selfies.

In addition to all of this, Megan Thee Stallion is allowing herself to be booked and busy. Consequently, we have seen her out at plenty of events. Her most recent appearance came at The Hollywood Reporter and Jimmy Choo Power Stylists Dinner. The dinner was attended by some very important people, including stylist to the stars, Law Roach. As you can see, Meg stunned the attendees with her outfit that will leave some people speechless. As she explained in the Instagram post below, the piece came from Paco Rabanne’s Spring-Summer 1997 collection.

Additionally, it would appear as though the outfit had been collecting dust as Megan Thee Stallion claimed it was “sitting in the closet waiting for the perfect moment!” Subsequently, Meg was treated to some very positive impressions from her followers and closest friends. “I GASPED,” Chloe Bailey wrote in the comments section. “Absolutely divine,” MTV exclaimed. Overall, it was a fantastic look that was complemented by her gorgeous hairstyle. It is very much a 90s outfit that also seemingly had a 70s flair to it all. While Paco Rabanne may have passed away recently, we’re sure he would have been proud of how this was worn.

Megan Thee Stalion And Mariah Carey Will Headline Los Angeles’ 2023 Pride In The Park Celebration

Pride Month might be in June, but the city of Los Angeles has already announced the headliners for its annual Pride In The Park celebration taking place June 9-10. It’s just not Pride without a diva or two, and this year’s selection of Pride performers has that covered with Megan Thee Stallion and Mariah Carey leading the show on Friday (6/9) and Saturday (6/10), respectively.

Carey posted the announcement on Instagram, writing, “I’m thrilled and honored to be a part of LA Pride 2023,” she wrote. “I am happy to be back in person celebrating with the LGBTQIA+ community here in Southern California and throughout all of the lands!!! Let’s come together to celebrate love, inclusion, and Pride.”

Meanwhile, in a separate statement, Meg said, “I can’t wait to headline LA Pride in the Park and celebrate the phenomenal LGBTQIA+ community. This incredible event advocates diversity, inclusivity and equality, so I’m honored to perform and have a blast with all of the Hotties in attendance.”

The theme for this year’s Pride In The Park event is “All Out With Pride,” and future performers will be announced in the coming months. The 2023 Pride In The Park celebration will take place at the Los Angeles State Historic Park on 6/9-10. You can find more information here.

Megan Thee Stallion Says The First Female Rapper She Heard Besides Her Mom Was Lil Kim: “Damn!”

She’s a leading force for women in the Rap game, and Megan Thee Stallion is sharing how she was first introduced to ladies in Hip Hop. The Traumazine hitmaker has spoken about her mother, Holly Thomas, being an artist. Watching her mother work on her craft and beast out bars in the studio inspired Megan to walk a similar path. Sadly, Thomas passed away in 2019 after a bout with cancer, and her death arrived when Megan entered the mainstream scene. The “WAP” collaborator caught up with Hulu’s RapCaviar Presents to speak about her introduction to women in Rap.

“My mom was a rapper, right? She was a female rapper, but I had never heard of women being rappers ever because my mom was listening to UGK, Three 6 Mafia,” she said in a teaser. “My daddy [listened to] Lil Wayne, like, we only listening to men in the house. But one day, my mom put on Lil Kim. Damn! She raps harder than a lot of these guys!” Meanwhile, City Girls had a different outlook, as they were surrounded by influences with ladies on the mic.

“It was a lot of women in music when I was growing up. It was f*ckin’ Foxy Brown, Missy Elliott, Left Eye, Eve,” said JT. Simone Mitchell, the President of Quality Control Music, also noted that in past generations of Hip Hop, femcees have dominated with “raunchy” Rap. We’re seeing a resurgence in this current culture. The teaser ended by stating that Nicki Minaj “kind of brought it back to the forefront.” That should make for an episode that sparks several social media conversations.

Though Megan Thee Stallion spent much of early 2023 away from social media and the public eye, the Houston native has been outside with a vengeance lately. Not only did she make her red carpet return at the Vanity Fair Oscars After-Party, but she also announced that her first performance of the year will be taking place in her hometown at the end of March. Clearly, she’s feeling much better now that Tory Lanez has been found guilty of shooting her in the foot several years ago.

Aside from the glamorous parties (one of which found her smoking weed with Seth Rogen) she’s been attending as of late, Thee Stallion also has a few wholesome activities on her calendar. This weekend specifically found the “Big Ole Freak” hitmaker taking a trip across the country to Washington, D.C., where she and Vice President Kamala Harris spent some time together in celebration of Women’s History Month. Megan shared a photo dump from her vacation on Saturday (March 18), revealing some of the fun the two had together.

To begin her carousel, the 28-year-old showed off her outfit for the event, for which she kept it (mostly) conservative. Thee Stallion donned a calf-length black and blue skirt with a matching button-up sweater, which markedly dipped down her chest with a sweetheart neckline to reveal plenty of cleavage. In the second image, she and VP Harris snapped a selfie together. Megan sticks out her tongue to expose perfectly white teeth while the politician grins from ear to ear with excitement over the special moment.
