Megan Thee Stallion’s new album, Megan, is one day closer. Today, the Houston hottie shared the tracklist, revealing that the project will be 18 tracks long, with features from past collaborator GloRilla, Brooklyn drill rapper Kyle Ricch, R&B hitmaker Victoria Monét, Texas royalty UGK, and Japanese rapper Yuki Chiba. The snake motif that has unfurled over the past year continues, with “Boa,” “Cobra,” and “Hiss” joined by “Rattle” and “Mamushi,” which is the Japanese word for “snake.”

As usual, Megan’s love for Japanese anime shines through, as well, with a track titled “Otaku Hot Girl” borrowing the Japanese term for “fans” or “nerds,” which was co-opted by American anime fans to refer to themselves. Meg recently updated the cover of the album in response to fans’ lukewarm reception of the original, butterfly-themed cover. She went back to her snake theme, using a photo of herself emerging from a giant egg covered in slime.

During the tour promoting the album, Hot Girl Summer, Thee Stallion proved many of her haters wrong in saying she isn’t an arena artist, hanging out with WNBA stars like Angel Reese and Brittney Griner, and found herself upgraded to headliner on festivals like Lollapalooza and Outside Lands after Tyler The Creator dropped out.

Fans are certainly more eager than ever to get their hands on Meg’s upcoming LP, which so far, sounds like it’ll be a hit. She previewed one of her unreleased tracks earlier this month with a twerk-filled tour bus video, and while the song doesn’t have a name yet, they can’t wait for the full version.

Megan Thee Stallion Updated The ‘Megan’ Cover On DSPs After Fans Complained About The Original Version

Megan Thee Stallion‘s new album Megan is on the way, but before its release, she’s made a big change to one of the most important parts: the cover art. Thee Stallion had the album’s cover updated across DSPs from its original version; on the new cover, a nude-ish Megan emerges from a giant egg. This re-aligns from the old cover, which depicted Megan coming out of a monarch butterfly chrysalis hanging from a tree. The original cover drew complaints from fans — along with Ice Spice’s Y2K cover — for featuring an awkward design.

Meg almost certainly saw fans’ jokes about the original cover, which deviated heavily from the established snake theme of her promo so far. Having released singles like “Cobra,” “Hiss,” and “Boa,” representing the way snakes shed their skins, the butterfly theme of the cover also nodded to the concept of transformation, but seemingly came out of left field. Speaking of left field, positioning the subject to the extreme left of the cover is pretty much a day-one design class error — not that it can’t be done to make an artistic statement, but here, the decision was misplaced (along with Meg). Fortunately, it seems like the Houston femcee recently shared an alternate cover art on her social media on Saturday night (June 8), which many in the comments section of the IG post below praised as an improvement on the original. Maybe this is actually a replacement and not just an alternate, but either way, we’re sure fans will have access to both through physical or digital download purchases.

Furthermore, this is especially heartening because it also lets fans know that Megan Thee Stallion isn’t just popping out with the new album randomly. She’s been consistent about promoting it constantly while still pushing other things forward. For example, Meg recently joined Latto and Flo Milli for the “Sunday Service” remix, another huge collaboration this year that is building a lot of praise and hype. It feels like it’s all part of the same plan, which is an important image to keep up with a huge release on the way.

Hopefully Megan Thee Stallion is able to sidestep most of this undeserved and invasive hate ahead of Megan‘s release and after it. At least the tour is going really well when the shows aren’t getting canceled for X, Y, or Z reasons. It’s odd to see this mix of wild success and acclaim with plenty of roadblocks, too, but it’s the nature of current celebrity culture.
