Meek Mill’s Phone Stolen On Ghana Trip

One of the best Philly rappers took a nice vacation this week for a performance, and it was eventful to say the least. A pickpocket stole Meek Mill’s phone during his trip to Ghana, prompting him to ask for help on his Instagram story. The “Dreams & Nightmares” MC headlined the Afro Nation concert on Thursday night (December 29th). Also, the incident comes after he bailed 20 incarcerated women out of jail to be with their families for the holidays.

As proven on this trip, that good karma comes back to reward you when you’re feeling low. Meek fortunately got his phone back, and thanked the crew that got it to him on his Instagram story.

“I wanna say thank you guys for getting this phone back to my life, man,” the 35-year-old said. “Y’all ain’t let ’em hack me or nothin’, did you, Commander?” He spoke to a Ghanan official who was seemingly escorting the phone-rescuing entourage. Also, he captioned the story post with “All my lil chicks was scared lol thankyouuuu.”

Moreover, video clips of Meek before he hit the Afro Nation stage show the chaos the phone might’ve been lost in. Dozens of people gathered around the Philly rapper. “They roughed me tf upppppp but the love overpowered it…” he wrote on Instagram. “Almost went from dreams to nightmares quick lol.”

Besides the crowds and almost-robbery, Meek had a ball in Ghana. As the Internet does, fans were quick to identify a woman who Meek was filmed riding an ATV with. Still, amid fans and admirers, it seemed the streets were all for it. When his phone was stolen, even Ghana musicians like dancehall artist Shatta Wale called for action.

“Streetz, if you know you have Meek Mill’s phone, please return if that’s true,” he tweeted. “You can’t do that to a real hustler. By [tomorrow] morning, return a.m. Meek inspires all of us on the street a lot.”

Meek Mill Takes Bike Life to the Streets of Ghana

Afro Nation Ghana kicked off last night in Accra. Before he took the stage for his legendary performance, Meek Mill made his dream of his come true as he rode bikes around the city before his set.

Back in 2019, Meek tweeted his desire to hit Ghana with bikes.

“I’m tryna ride bikes on a beach in Ghana too!!” Meek said. “So whenever I come there have me setup.”

Meek Mill Posted Bail For 20 Philadelphia Women So They Could Spend The Holidays With Their Families

Meek Mill deactivated his Twitter account last week as one of countless people who have been dissatisfied since Elon Musk took over the app. Meek seemingly had a much better relationship with former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, who donated $10 million to Reform Alliance, a non-profit aimed at criminal justice reform launched by Meek alongside Jay-Z and Michael Rubin in early 2019.

Meek Mill is too busy to tweet anyway. While Meek performed “Dreams And Nightmares” at the World Series in Philadelphia, his relationship with his hometown is anything but performative — from donating $15 million to 110 Philly schools earlier this year to his latest act of goodwill. According to Reform, the multi-platinum rapper posted bail for 20 women incarcerated at Philadelphia’s Riverside Correctional Facility.

“The women, who were unable to afford bail, will now be able to spend the holiday season with their families and loved ones. Five women were released today and will be reunited with their families, with the goal of 15 more women being released in the coming week,” the organization explained on Instagram.

“For families impacted by the criminal justice system, the holidays can be an extremely challenging time,” Meek said in a statement shared by Reform. “No one should have to spend the holidays in jail simply because they can’t afford bail, and no child should be without their parents during this time if we can do something about it. I’m grateful for the opportunity to help these women be with their families and loved ones during this special time of year.”

In November 2017, Meek Mill was arrested and hit with a fishy two-to-four-year sentence for violating his probation by riding motorbikes, travel issues, et al. He appealed the sentence in April 2018, which was denied, but he walked free later that month after the Pennsylvania Supreme Court ordered his immediate release. Meek’s original 2008 conviction was eventually vacated in 2019. (The “batsh*t crazy” judge who oversaw Meek’s case, Genece Brinkley, was recently reassigned to civil court, per The Philadelphia Inquirer.)

Since enduring all of that, Meek has dedicated himself to serving others. He supported New York’s “Rap On Trial” law in May and, through Reform, has been involved in probation reformation being passed in California and Michigan in years past.

Meek Mill, the co-founder of the REFORM Alliance, has made a heartfelt holiday gesture by paying the bail of women now incarcerated in Philadelphia. The women who could not afford bail will finally be able to spend the holidays with their families and loved ones. Five women were released today and reunited with their families; 15 more ladies will be released next week.

The women were held in Philadelphia’s Riverside Correctional Facility. The women will also each receive a gift card for groceries or holiday gifts.

“It was devastating for me to be away from my son during the holidays when I was incarcerated,” said REFORM Alliance co-founder Meek Mill. “So I understand what these women and their families are going through. No one should have to spend the holidays in jail simply because they can’t afford bail. I’m grateful for the opportunity to help these women be with their families and loved ones during this special time of year.”

Meek’s holiday giving is simply the most recent in a long line of Meek and REFORM Alliance efforts to push for a more just and equitable criminal justice system. The REFORM Alliance, founded in 2018 by Mill and a group of influential business and entertainment leaders, including Michael Rubin, Shawn “JAY-Z” Carter, Robert Kraft, and others, has made significant progress in its efforts to change laws, systems, and culture to transform probation and parole and improve the lives of those impacted by the criminal justice system. To date, REFORM Alliance has passed 16 bipartisan measures in 10 states, resulting in more stable communities, stronger families, and increased public safety.

REFORM Alliance held its annual Season of Giving events earlier this month in New York City, Brooklyn, and Philadelphia. Since 2019, REFORM Alliance has organized many special holiday events to give families negatively impacted by the criminal justice system a meaningful Christmas experience. More than 50 children were treated to a memorable holiday experience this year:

BROOKLYN:   REFORM Alliance co-founders Clara Wu Tsai and Meek Mill, and REFORM CEO Robert Rooks were joined by producer and entrepreneur La La Anthony and hip hop artist Cordae at Barclays Center for the Brooklyn Nets vs. Charlotte Hornets matchup and a VIP experience for children whose mothers have been negatively impacted by the criminal justice system. The children received a special insider’s tour, time with New York Liberty players, and a shopping spree at the Fanatics store. Later, guests made their way up to the suite, which was decked out with more Fanatics merchandise gifts and where they enjoyed a private dinner.

The afternoon kicked off with the first-ever “Eagle for a Day” experience. Fanatics CEO Michael Rubin alongside fellow REFORM co-chair and award-winning musician Meek Mill gifted the guests special Eagles merchandise and bags to wear during their participation in a Jr. Combine experience. Inside the training bubble, kids threw passes with Meek, sprinted a 40-yard dash alongside Philadelphia Eagles players Darius Slay, Avonte Maddox, Jordan Mailata, Dallas Goedert and star quarterback Jalen Hurts, and more. Participating families then made their way to the Wells Fargo Center where the kids took part in an intimate Q&A with 76ers head coach Doc Rivers, given a holiday fit package equipped with custom Sixers jerseys and Fanatics gear and participated in a special pre-game special bell ringing ceremony alongside Michael and Meek. Guest families were able to enjoy the Philadelphia Sixers vs. Sacramento Kings matchup both from their VIP suite boxes and courtside seats.

Meek Mill Reacts To Judge Who Sentenced Him Getting In Trouble For Misconduct

Whether it’s immediately or years after the fact, you can always depend on karma coming to bite you in some way. Meek Mill’s former judge learned that this week, as authorities stripped her of over 50 cases she was presiding over. Mill excitedly shared the news via Instagram and wrote a pretty emblematic caption.

“The judge who sentenced Meek Mill to 4 years for doing a wheelie on a dirt bike had her criminal cases stripped,” the post read. “+50 of her cases were terminated by another judge over 2 days.” For those unfamiliar, stripping a case usually refers to a judge’s inadequate job of properly attending the case. While this suggested many different things, Meek clearly interpreted it as payback for the way she handled his case.

“For motivation use only -standing at the scratch line,” he wrote as a caption to the post. In addition to that caption, he also shared various pictures of himself during his legal processes. Although it’s Meek’s post, he decided to let “GRATEFUL” by DJ Khaled and Vory in the background.

Meanwhile, the Philly rapper has a lot to be grateful for, and acted to give that gratitude back. As cofounder of REFORM Alliance, he paid bail for twenty incarcerated women to be with their families for the holidays. Also, this comes after the organization’s Season of Giving events in New York City, Brooklyn, and Philadelphia. Alongside partnerships with Nike, sports teams, and many others, they supported and championed children negatively affected by the justice system.

Meek Mill Ditched His Twitter Account For Greener Pastures On Another Social Media Platform

In what was truly the end of an era, Meek Mill deactivated his Twitter account over the weekend, heading for greener pastures elsewhere on the internet. However, unlike many who ditched the Bird App recently over new owner Elon Musk’s prolific bumbling, Meek had his own reasons for leaving. After over a decade of interactions that were doubtlessly as frustrating for him as they were hilarious for everyone else, Meek decided to give up on the platform, explaining his rationale and detailing his future plans in one last tweet, which was captured for posterity by 2cool2blog.

“Ima deactivate Twitter forever and go to a new social where it’s more good vibes based off building, creating and motivation,” he explained. “Whoever run my sh*t turn this off forever … ima takeover my YouTube account to replace me interacting with supports! Too many bots and weird people.”

The announcement was met — as usual — with a variety of mixed reactions. Some lamented the loss of an account that provided a great deal of amusement due to Meek’s seeming obliviousness. Others rejoiced that he finally freed himself of one of his big distractions, hoping that he’d get back to making music without undermining himself with off-the-wall observations that distracted from his day job.

Obviously, Meek Mill and Twitter have had a special relationship. Like many blog-era rappers, he was able to use the platform to grow his following, and while he battled the state of Pennsylvania for his freedom, it was a source of support. However, he’s also gotten himself in trouble on there; his beef with Drake started over his “Twitter fingers” and it seemed as though every couple of weeks brought another awkwardly-worded musing that got him torched by users. Hopefully, he’ll have better luck wherever he ends up next, but then again, that depends largely on him.

Meek Mill Recounted How Young Thug Once Helped Protect A Sexual Assault Survivor

After being charged with street racing in addition to the existing 58 other alleged RICO crimes, friends of “Lifestyle” rapper Young Thug are attempting to fight back against his negative image in the media. While fellow Atlanta native Lil Baby ensures his childhood friend is “in good spirits,” others are taking it a step further to shine a light on Thug’s positive mindset.

Philadelphia rapper Meek Mill took to Twitter to share how he’s personally been affected by Thug’s generosity firsthand. In a series of tweets, the “All Eyes On You” rapper revealed that during his time in the system, Thug went above and behind to comfort one of the inmates.

Meek shared, “It was a kid that was keeping his lights on at a detention center and kept getting in trouble. We found out he was being raped by his uncle at night, so he wanted the lights on. I called Thug. He stayed on the phone with him til sun up on [Facetime]!”

Meek later added, “[Young Thug helping] that kid boost his confidence back up and get his head right was hero sh*t to me! All [of] this bad media, I just thought I’d say that,” as he shared his disdain for the media’s coverage of his friend and former collaborator.

Meek closed out by saying, “I was tryna say ‘Thug’ stayed up to fix that kid’s broken soul when he heard about his situation from us helping the kid. He immediately used his platform to save a child and help him get confidence to rebuild [himself] for [hours]. That shouldn’t go in the dark!”

Young Thug associate Gunna’s trial is set for January 9, 2023.
