Meek Mill Apologizes For Filming Music Video At Jubilee House In Ghana

A harmless moment meant by Meek Mill turned into an international social media incident for the rapper. Last month, Meek was in the Motherland for the Afrobeats festival in Ghana. The Philly star enjoyed his time in Africa and shared several takeaways from the trip—and he even filmed a music video while there. The shoot took place at the Jubilee House, a government building that acts as both a residence and office for Ghana’s president.

When Meek finally shared the visual, it was met with mixed reactions. While his fans were happy to see footage from the trip, many Ghanaians thought it was disrespectful to film at that location.

Much of the pushback centered on the Dreams and Nightmares hitmaker’s lyrical content. As Meek Mill’s mentions were cluttered with complaints, the rapper reemerged with an explanation—and an apology.

“To the people of Ghana no video I drop is ever meant to disrespect the people of Ghana,” he tweeted. “The fastest way to make connection is thru music and I wanted to do that with displaying art … im in my 30’s from America and didn’t know much about the lifestyle here.”

“My apologies to the people if any disrespect! We still gonna push to make the connection between black people in America and Africa … what I’m trying to do is more than a video and you should see coming soon! My apologies to the the office also!”

Additionally, Meek said he didn’t believe officials were aware that he was shooting a music video. The controversy also sparked division between Africans and Black Americans as conversations about culture were mentioned. Meek said he didn’t want to create tension.

“I’m just not here for no separation of anything black,” tweeted Meek. “We already separated enough and don’t understand each others cultures.”

“Let’s used this to help fix that and not more judgement towards each other!”

Damar Hamlin Was All Smiles On FaceTime With Meek Mill, A Beautiful Sight After He Suffered Cardiac Arrest

Before football fans everywhere learned of Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin, he had founded a brand and non-profit organization — both named Chasing Millions. One of his clothing designs boasted the phrase, “Love Me B4 They All Do.” The 24-year-old Pittsburgh native never could have imagined that he’d become a household name by suffering cardiac arrest on the field during the first quarter of last week’s Monday Night Football matchup between the Bills and Cincinnati Bengals, and Hamlin probably prefers it didn’t happen this way, but he also doesn’t intend to waste his newfound platform.

Since last week, Hamlin’s annual Chasing M’s toy drive has received over $8.5 million in donations as he slowly recovers in the ICU at the UC Medical Center in Cincinnati. By Thursday, January 5, Hamlin had awoken and “demonstrated that he appears to be neurologically intact.” The doctors caring for him held a press conference later in the day and additionally relayed that Hamlin had been able to communicate via written word, and the first thing he did was ask, “Did we win?

Hamlin’s lungs were healed enough to have his breathing tube removed on Friday, January 6, allowing him to FaceTime his Bills teammates and tell them he loved them. The following day, Hamlin soaked up love from Meek Mill and Michael Rubin — like Hamlin, they’re known for their philanthropic efforts — on Saturday, January 7. Rubin tweeted that the call “made my year.”

The NFLPA separately shared an Instagram Reel recapping all of the league-wide tributes, appropriately soundtracked by Meek Mill’s “Hot” featuring Moneybagg Yo and reposted by Meek to his Instagram Story.

Saturday also saw Hamlin post his first public messages since the near-fatal event, which continued into Sunday, January 8, when the Bills defeated the New England Patriots in their regular-season finale. Hamlin watched the game from his hospital bed. He announced newly designed “Did We Win?” tees, with the proceeds going toward first responders and the UC Trauma Center.

On Saturday, January 7th, Gervonta Davis fought Hector Garcia to defend his WBA lightweight title. Halfway during the 8th round, a ringside altercation between Meek Mill and pro-fighter Garry Russell Jr. caught the attention of both fighters, causing the fight to stop for a brief moment.

Meek and Garry were escorted out of the arena, and Meek would later take to Twitter to say that he and the pro fighter almost got into a fight, and apologized for the incident.

“Congratulations tankkk!!!,” he wrote referring to Gervonta Davis. “I almost fought a boxer telling him this fight not going 12 rounds I missed the big bomb!!!!”

In a string of other tweets, Meek continued sharing his side of the story, saying that he would “never let no petty shit escalate,” and saying that the blogs put up the video of the altercation of him reacting aggressively to Garry Russell Jr., saying something aggressive to him.

“I would never let no petty shit escalate to let somebody movie run …. I just walked away .. I came to support tank and boots!!!!!! Good wins,” Meek tweeted.

“I was nice to everybody at that fight if you was there you saw! The blogs gone put up the aggressive part after I respond to something aggressive … everybody in that section seen my level of respect towards others… i just gotta step my response game up!”

He then apologized for his actions, which he called “wasting time for nothing.”

“I have no business going back and forth that hard with a random person and we just talking about sports…so my apologies for wasting time for nothing! I had a few shots I know how to dodge those! Congrats Tank and boots!!!”

Despite the disruption, Gervonta would go on to win the fight in a 9th-round TKO, after Garcia’s side said that he would not be continuing the fight. Garcia said he got hit so hard he couldn’t see.

Meek Mill & Gary Russell Jr Nearly Get Into Fight

Saturday (January 7) was an eventful night in the boxing world. An entertaining fight card, with undefeated Gervonta Davis fighting in the main event, took place in Washington, D.C.

Although, there was some commotion occurring within the crowd during the main event as well. Meek Mill was in attendance to support his friend, “Tank” Davis. Former WBC featherweight Gary Russell Jr was also there, sitting close to the Philadelphia rapper.

However, Russell was there in order to show support for Davis’ opponent, Hector Luis Garcia. Davis and the former champion have formerly beefed. As a result, it seems as though the “Dreams and Nightmares” rapper and Russell are responsible for firing off some choice words for each other.

The two, along with their crews, subsequently stirred up an altercation. In the footage, the pair of attendees’ can be seen shoving each other and yelling at one another. One of the referees even had to pause the fight in the ring in order to address the commotion in the crowd. Thankfully, it didn’t escalate beyond a shoving and yelling match.

Meek has since taken to his Twitter account to defend himself. “I would never let no petty sh*t escalate to let somebody movie run …. I just walked away ..” says the Philadelphia native. He says, “I came to support tank and boots!!!!!! Good wins.”

“I was nice to everybody at that fight if you was there you saw! The blogs gone put up the aggressive part after I respond to something aggressive … everybody in that section seen my level of respect towards others… i just gotta step my response game up!” he continues afterwards.

Furthermore, Davis improves to 28-0, including 26 KOs, with the win. Do you think Meek could take Russell Jr in a fight? Comment your thoughts below. Finally, make sure to stay tuned to HNHH for all of the latest updates.

In the screenshot of the FaceTime call, Hamlin appears to be in good spirits while speaking to Meek Mill and Michael Rubin. “The volume of prayer on social media was at an all-time high this week. @danorlovsky7 even prayed on live TV. We are seeing those prayers get answered right before our eyes. Keep them coming! God is so good,” writes journalist Nick Veronica in a tweet.

The world was witness to the 24-year-old collapsing on the field during last week’s Monday Night Football game. He reportedly went into cardiac arrest due to the immense impact of a tackle he was making. After taking him to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, they were initially listing him in critical condition.

Of course, the injury occurred during the first quarter of the highly-anticipated match between Hamlin’s Buffalo Bills and the Cincinnati Bengals. The NFL says that the teams will not be playing that game at all now.

The medical staff at the hospital are responsible for removing his breathing tubes on Friday (January 6), as he continued to make phenomenal progress in his recovery. “Per the physicians at UCMC, Damar’s breathing tube was removed overnight. He continues to progress remarkably in his recovery. His neurologic function remains intact and he has been able to talk to his family and care team,” writes the team in a tweet.

Also on Saturday (January 7), the Bills’ Safety took to his Instagram account to speak publicly. This was the first time he was doing so since the injury. “When you put real love out into the world it comes back to you 3x’s as much. The Love has been overwhelming, but I’m thankful for every single person that prayed for me and reached out. We bring the world back together behind this. If you know me you know this only gone make me stronger. On a long road keep praying for me,” he writes in the post’s caption.

It’s certainly great to hear that Hamlin is well on his way to recovery following the horrifying incident. We hope he will be out of the hospital soon. Finally, make sure to stay tuned to HNHH for all of the latest updates.
