Meek Mill Credits Jadakiss For “Guiding” Him In His Youth

Meek Mill recently took the time to give one of his favorite artists, Jadakiss. On Sunday (August 27), Meek shared his appreciation of The Lox rapper via his Instagram Story. Using a picture of an old mugshot — alongside Rudy Giuliani’s recent one — he plays The Lox’s 2000 track, “Blood Pressure.” It appeared on the trio’s We Are the Streets album. “This why Kiss was my favorite rapper,” he wrote in the post. “I felt like he was guiding me as a lost kid!”In recent years, Meek and Jadakiss have collaborated on several tracks, including “Heaven Or Hell,” “Every Time,” and “Real Shot.”

The Philly rapper has often talked about his harsh upbringing in the city of “brotherly love.” In a 2019 interview with Billboard, the rapper spoke about how his fighter mentality led to his interest in boxing. That year, he served as executive producer DAZN and Roc Nation-produced 40 Days: Joshua-Ruiz. The docu-series follows Anthony Joshua and Andy Ruiz Jr. The rapper credits Mike Tyson for making him “fall in love” with boxing.

“I probably fell in love with boxing when I used to watch Mike Tyson,” he said. “I remember watching his one-round fights and him knocking people out all the time.” In other related news, it’s been reported that Meek and Rick Ross have been in the studio. The pair shared clips of the session on their perspective social media pages. Not only is the rapper a chart-topping hitmaker, but he’s also an active supporter of social justice causes.

Recently, he helped pass a criminal justice reform act with the governor of Illinois. The act aimed to prevent parolees from being sent back to jail for non-criminal violations. “That’s a milestone in my life. When I started making music, I was just trying to get out of the ghetto and my environment. But to be a part of something that changes bills and laws that actually affect me and my people, it’s my legacy.”

Meek Mill Complained To A Sneaker Reseller About His Prices For Jordans And He’s Getting Clowned For It Online

The Got Sole sneaker convention went down in New York City this past weekend, and Meek Mill was on hand looking to score some new footwear. One of his pickups in particular drew some attention, but because of how the transaction went.

In a video, Meek is seen discussing a pair of “Pine Green” Nike SB x Air Jordan 4’s with a reseller (as Complex notes). Currently, pairs of the shoe are available for around $300 per pair on StockX, depending on the size, but the reseller priced theirs at $500. (While writing this post, though, the most recently sold pair on StockX went for $517.)

Meek took exception to the pricing, but ultimately bought the shoes. He said, “I could buy these at the store right now for $300. You want $500? That’s a bad move. I’m going to buy them from you, but that’s a bad sell. You’re supposed to give it to Meek Mill for the low, get the commercial: Boom, I might come back and buy more, you know? […] Now I’m going to go to the next table and I might spend $5,000.”

Some people didn’t love Meek bringing his celebrity status into the equation, and the whole ordeal made Meek one of the top trending topics on X (formerly Twitter) today (August 21). One user wrote, “Well he got the publicity and the sale at his price. I understand what Meek is saying but it’s also predatory. He’s trying to strong arm him for a lower price, when he can clearly afford the price that’s being offered. Plus the price is on par for what others are charging.”

Somebody else tweeted, “First off this isn’t schooling. Your price is your price. I bet if he go to LV they making him pay and there isn’t any discounts. And they gladly pay it. Ain’t nobody trying to get no weak free promotion at all. Stand your ground on your price. Either buy it or move on.”

Some folks took Meek’s side, though, like one person who wrote, “Hustling backwards… Should have gave Meek that pair and an additional one for the $500. Sure you take the loss upfront but now you’re locked in as Meek’s shoe plug and can supply him and his team with all the sneakers they will need.” Somebody else responded, “He got the $500 and i seen this video so free publicity [crying laughing emoji].”

Meek Mill is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Meek Mill, G Herbo, And Sauce Walka Share Surprise Cypher

Over the weekend, Gillie Da King held “Gillie Fest” in Philadelphia to honor his son who was recently tragically slain. A number of Philly legends showed up to pay tribute to Gillie and his son. Among them was Meek Mill who made a surprise appearance on stage with the rapper. After their performances, a trio of MCs teamed up for a special cypher that caught many rap fans attention. Meek teamed up with G Herbo and Sauce Walka for the impromptu performance outside the festival.

Fans in the comments responded to the performances given by the trio, in particular Sauce Walka’s. “SAUCE TALKING THAT SH*T” reads one of the top comments. “Sauce walka really underrated he the only one actually held his own,” said another. “Ngl but Sauce straight smooth skated on this one…” reads one of the top comments on the post. The in-person crowd seems to agree. Dozens of bystanders filmed the three rappers with various cameras and cheered at particularly impressive moments.

Meek Mill, Sauce Walka, G Herbo Cypher

Of the three rappers, G Herbo is the one whose been in the headlines most recently. Over the weekend he officially signed his plea deal in a wire fraud case that he’s been caught up in since 2020. The deal allowed two of the charges to be dropped which shrank his potential sentencing down from 20+ years to just two-to-three. He’s been pretty vocal about the situation as well. In a statement made last week, he said he’s focused on staying calm and under control while his future is uncertain. He also expressed certainty that he wouldn’t be snitched on, claiming things would be different for him than Young Thug in the YSL RICO case.

Meek Mill was caught up in a different kind of hot water earlier this year. After shouting “Free Tory Lanez” during his set at Rolling Loud Portugal the fan backlash was loud. A few weeks after the incident Meek doubled down and defended his comments. What do you think of the trio’s new cypher outside Gillie Fest? Let us know in the comment section below.

Meek Mill Praises Jay-Z As He Spits His All-Time Hova Bars

Meek Mill has been very vocal in the past about his love for Jay-Z. The Philly native went to Hova’s Shawn Carter Foundation gala event last week. On the carpet, HipHopDX asked him about his favorite Jay-Z bars, to which Meek Mill responded: “Every Hov bar is my favorite Hov bar.” He then goes on to spit out some of Jay-Z’s lyrics:

“Why you home alone?
Why she out with me?
Room 112, hotel balcony
How’d she say, Jay, you can call the house for me?
There’s no respect at all, you better check her, dawg.

Meek Mill proceeded down the carpet after throwing out the verse, leaving the interviewer ecstatic about the live mini-performance. The lyrics come from the song “Is That Yo B*tch” from Vol. 3… Life and Times of S. Carter, which was released back in 1999. This early track shows how long Meek has been a fan of Jay, going into the deep reservoir to pull out this classic track. If prompted, the rapper could probably throw out ten or more lyrics from different songs across Jay-Z’s extensive catalog of music.

Jay-Z’s Influence On Meek Mill

Meek has never been shy about showcasing his love for Jay-Z. He attributes Hova with a lot of his early inspiration. As for the foundation gala, it was a massive success. Reports show it raised over $20 million to help struggling college students looking to continue their education. $10 million of that total donation came from Amazon chairman Jeff Bezos. The money will allow the Shawn Carter Foundation to build international exchange programs, emergency assistance programs, and scholarships.

Meek Mill also said recently he was inspired by both Jay-Z and Lil Wayne to stop writing down his lyrics. Once he found out the two rap heavy hitters freestyled their verses off the dome, he decided he wanted to do the same thing. There are no updates as to whether Meek donated to the foundation or, if he did, how much he contributed. But seeing as he’s such a huge fan of the New York hip-hop mogul, it would make sense that he helped out his fund.

Meek Mill Says He “Always Thought” The Weeknd Would Pass MJ

The Weeknd just passed Michael Jackson as having the number one best-selling tour by a Black musician this week, with his “After Hours Til Dawn” Tour grossing over $350 million in ticket sales alone. He paid his respects to the late King of Pop when he eclipsed this monumental milestone. However, there was another rapper waiting in the wings to stake his claim that the Toronto R&B artist was always going to dethrone the 1980s musical legend.

Meek Mill posted on Twitter, saying that “I always thought [The Weeknd] was [going to be] bigger than [Michael] Jackson.” He congratulates Abel Tesfaye, a.k.a. The Weeknd, for his achievement, with the apparent wisdom to know this was in the cards anyways. He proclaims in the Tweet that he used to hang out in the hood and dish out hot takes, like how Tesfaye looked like Michael Jackson out there performing. Seeing as The Weeknd was nothing but gracious and grateful for Michael, we wouldn’t say that he’d necessarily think the same way.

Meek Mill’s Bold Claim About The Weeknd

Of course, this claim would’ve been bolder if Meek Mill had mentioned it before The Weeknd blew the previous tour record out of the water. Still, it’s always good to see contemporary hip-hop artists dapping each other up, and Meek giving The Weeknd his deserved flowers is a wonderful sight. The two have collaborated a few times before, including the Meek Mill song “Pullin Up” from his 2015 album, Dreams Worth More Than Money.

Meek has been offering his opinions left and right recently. He discussed The Weeknd another time when the AI-generated song “Heart on My Sleeve” made the rounds. Artificial intelligence used The Weeknd and Drake’s voice likenesses to create a wholly original song. Meek Mill loved the song, listening to it on repeat and asking the duo to make some new music together. While he caught flak for boosting the AI-generated track, he still has a point: The hip-hop world could use some new Drake-Weeknd collaborations.
