Hip-Hop & R&B Artists With Their Own Beauty Brands

Hip-hop artists aren’t only focused on crafting chart-topping hits. They’re also making inroads in the beauty industry. With their personal brands and passions, these hip-hop music moguls are creating beauty brands that resonate with fans and fill gaps in the market. Many are also committed to sustainability and ethical practices. By creating products with real meaning and responsibility, they do more than ride the celebrity brand wave. Whether it’s Nicki Minaj’s vibrant nail art, Tyler’s luxury fragrance, Lil Mama’s nostalgic glosses, or Pharrell’s thoughtful skincare, each brand brings something unique to the table. Check out the innovative beauty brands created by these hip-hop entrepreneurs.

Nicki Minaj

Nicki Minaj has ventured into the realm of nail care. In collaboration with Endexx Corporation, she launched Pink Friday Nails, a brand that offers a range of press-on nails designed to bridge the gap between affordable products and high-end custom sets. The collection features various lengths, shapes, and designs, some adorned with up to 400 gems and charms. Minaj, a trendsetter in nail art, wanted to provide fans with salon-quality nails at accessible prices.

Ciara

Moving from nails to skin, we have Ciara, the R&B songstress who has been entertaining audiences since the early 2000s. Her brand, OAM (On A Mission), focuses on skincare products that cater to the unique needs of melanin-rich skin. Launched in 2022, OAM offers a range of products including the Skin Transformation Cream and the Radiance Moisturizer. Ciara emphasizes the importance of self-love and integrating positive affirmations into daily routines, with each product featuring an uplifting message.

Tyler, The Creator

Tyler, The Creator, known for his eclectic style and boundary-pushing music, has translated his creative vision into the luxury fashion and beauty brand Golf le Fleur. Initially focused on collaborations, the brand has now expanded into a standalone entity offering high-end apparel, accessories, and beauty products. The line includes a fragrance, “French Waltz,” and a nail polish set in Golf le Fleur’s signature pastel palette. As a multifaceted artist, Tyler’s foray into beauty reflects his desire to create products that are “necessary, useful, and beautiful.”

John Legend

EGOT winner John Legend has also entered the skincare arena with Loved01 (pronounced “Loved One”). Legend saw a gap in the market for affordable, high-quality skincare products formulated specifically for melanin-rich skin. “We really saw a need in the marketplace. We believed that melanin-rich skincare needs weren’t being fully met,” he told ESSENCE. “I also wanted to create ones that weren’t at celebrity prices.” Legend partnered with dermatologist Dr. Naana Boakye to develop products that address the unique needs of darker skin tones. Launched in February 2023, Loved01 offers a range of products, including a Face + Body Wash, an Exfoliating Cleanser, and a Toning Mist, all priced between $10 to $15.

Bow Wow

Bow Wow has also stepped into the beauty game. In early 2022, he launched a line of hair maintenance products with Kiss Colors and Care, including a velvet-styled durag, wave brushes, and a twist styling tool. For Bow Wow, the durag is more than just a fashion statement. It’s a practical tool for protecting his classic braids. “My love for durags came at a very early age,” he shared with The Source. “Early 2000s, we just started to incorporate them with the fashion. Even in the summertime, we would rock our durags. I wanted something that was comfortable and something that can keep my hair tied down better than a bandana.”

Rick Ross

Rick Ross, known for his hustle and impressive beard,  launched RICH by Rick Ross, a nine-piece grooming line, around 2018. Despite the luxurious-sounding name, each product is affordably priced between $12.99 to $15.99. The collection includes a Luxury Beard Oil, Shampoo, Conditioner, and more, all infused with what Ross calls “The Boss Experience”: a blend of Champagne extract, caviar extract, and hemp seed oil. “I always get asked what I use to keep my beard so fly and real bosses help other bosses stay blessed so, I knew I needed to bring the people what they wanted!” Ross said in a press release.

DJ Khaled

DJ Khaled, the hitmaker behind countless chart-toppers, has stepped into the grooming game with Blesswell, a line of CBD-infused men’s products. Collaborating with Endexx Corporation, Khaled offers everything from body wash to beard oil, all containing US-grown hemp. For hip-hop star Khaled, the beauty brand is about “wellness, blessings and self-care,” drawing inspiration from his love for nature and the healing properties of cannabis.

BIA

Rising star BIA made waves with her 2020 EP For Certain, and now she’s making a mark in beauty with her aptly named line, “Beauty For Certain.” Available exclusively on Dolls Kill, her collection features matte liquid lipsticks, cream highlighters, and blushes. BIA’s approach is refreshingly bold, with her face prominently featured on the packaging. The cruelty-free, eco-conscious line is a testament to her dedication to both her fans and the environment.

Lil Mama

Lil Mama, whose 2008 hit “Lip Gloss” became an anthem, has come full circle with her own lip gloss collection, “It’s Poppin’.” In partnership with Vaniteaset Cosmetics, she and her sisters have created four shades that pay homage to her music and personal journey. From the bold “Truly in Love” to the understated “Strike a Pose,” each gloss is designed to empower and celebrate individuality.

Toni Braxton

R&B legend Toni Braxton launched Nude Sugar, a vegan body care line that addresses the specific needs of women of color. Available at Ulta Beauty, the line includes body creams, serums, and mists formulated to combat dryness, hyperpigmentation, and uneven skin tone. Braxton’s products, such as the “Luminous Splendor” cream and the “Restoring Elixir” serum, are not just about skincare; they’re about self-care and feeling good in one’s skin.

Pharrell Williams

Lastly, we have Pharrell Williams, whose brand, Humanrace, initially focused on high-end apparel and accessories. However, he has since expanded into skincare with a range of products that cater to all skin types and tones. His philosophy? “The idea is to create products that are necessary, useful, and beautiful to help guide our daily practice,” he told Glossy. From cleansers to moisturizers, Humanrace products are designed to be simple yet effective, focusing on natural ingredients and sustainability.

As the beauty industry continues to evolve, it’s clear that hip-hop artists are not just influencing trends through their music and style. They are actively shaping the industry with their innovative products. These hip-hop stars’ beauty brands illustrate their entrepreneurial spirit, their commitment to their fans, and their understanding of different beauty needs. Looking to the future, it will be interesting to see what groundbreaking products these multi-talented artists bring to the beauty world.

Jayda Cheaves’ No Makeup Selfie Sparks Debate, She Fires Back

It’s no secret that the beauty standard only continues to increase, and recently, social media users have sparked another debate with their outrageous reactions to a photo of Jayda Cheaves. In the photo, the Savannah-born baddie is seen posing with a fan outside of a nail salon, looking laid back and all-natural. She wore little to no makeup and a casual fit with her hair slicked back.

While the personality obviously looks different than she would with a full beat, the photo has prompted outrage among some commenters, who think her look was less than impressive. “Def unfollowed jayda cus waydaf*cking minute,” one critical Twitter/X user writes. “I’m sorry but Jayda look ugly on this lmao,” another claims.

Amid all of the chatter, Jayda decided to hop online to come to her own defense earlier today, revealing that she has no plans of letting hate stand in her way.

“I am not letting no acne or hyperpigmentation stop me from taking pics and being outside FULLY natural. Idc! Idc! Never did never will .. yall gon take me however I am. Because all yall being funny KNOW what it give. Love yall,” she wrote in The Shade Room‘s comments section. What do you think of Jayda Cheaves’ natural look? Chicago West Takes Inspiration From Big Sister North: Watch

There’s no shortage of nepo babies being generated by Hollywood’s couples, but among the most famous of them all will always be the offspring of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. The ex-lovers share four – North, Saint, Chicago, and Psalm – most of whom have already spent enough time in the public eye for us to get a feel for their personality. The eldest of the family has a love for fashion, music, sports, and drawing, just to name a few of the hobbies she’s already shared with us. Meanwhile, Saint’s athletic abilities in basketball and soccer suggest that he could have a future playing professionally.

Next up is six-year-old Chicago, who recently celebrated her birthday with a Bratz-themed affair, proving her love for all things girly. The youngest girl of the Kimye clan makes occasional appearances on TikTok with North, and earlier this week, she proved that the two creatives have even more in common than we thought. In the video below, Chicago’s eccentric green makeup and bold personality have commenters comparing her to her mom, while the 10-year-old is traditionally said to more closely resemble Ye.

Chicago West is Just as Creative as North

Seeing as it was just a few weeks ago that the firstborn West’s “ALIEN SUPERSTAR” purple facepaint went viral, she may be responsible for Chicago’s innovative makeover. We’ve already seen Kim collaborate with her siblings Kylie, Khloe, Kourtney, and Kendall on various beauty endeavors, and as North and her little sis get older, we’re curious to see whether they’ll have any joint projects to share with the world.

From what we’ve seen of little Chicago so far, it’s evident that her creative skills will easily match up to North and Saint’s. What we’re waiting to see, however, is if she’ll take an interest in athletics like her two older siblings have. If you had to predict a future career for each of the four Kardashian-West kids, what would they be? Let us know in the comments, and check back later for more hip-hop/pop culture news updates.

North West Channels Nicki Minaj In New TikTok Showcasing Her Makeup Skills

Nicki Minaj has been a hot topic in the news for the past few days, mostly due to her dramatic reaction to Megan Thee Stallion’s “HISS” single. The Queen of Rap has been busy liking tweets slandering the Houston native and others supporting her, while The Barbz stand behind their favourite femcee. Minaj’s fanbase went so far as to doxx the information for Thee Stallion’s late mother’s gravesite, leading Cardi B’s fans to step up in the “Big Ole Freak” hitmaker’s defense, doing the same with Nicki’s dad’s cemetery location. With so much tension in the air, social media users have been carefully selecting which songs and audio snippets they use in their posts, so as not to take sides. Interestingly, 10-year-old North West used a soundbite of Minaj in one of her most recent TikToks, which now has the internet talking.

“I don’t think you understand, I’m obsessed,” the tween mouths along with the “Barbie Dreams” artist in the video below. Seeing as her mother, Kim Kardashian, is something of a makeup mogul, it’s not surprising to see Miss Westie already following in her footsteps. However, instead of perfecting a smokey eye and nude lip like the reality starlet, North is channeling her inner Alien Superstar.

North West Gets Her Creativity from Both Parents

Kimye’s eldest covered her face and neck in hot pink facepaint while experimenting, also making her eyebrows stand out with a darker shade of the same colour. Her lips were a beautiful ombre with various shades of purple, and subtle false lashes helped her brown eyes stand out.

Even if Ye doesn’t fully approve, his firstborn continues to express herself and her various talents on TikTok for the world to see. Speaking of Yeezy, he shocked fans by reuniting with ex-wife Kim Kardashian for a night out with North West and her friends last month. Read more about that at the link below, and check back later for more hip-hop/pop culture news updates.

Janelle Monae Becomes The Grinch In Stunning Costume

Janelle Monáe is bringing a whole new meaning to the holiday spirit, as they’re quite literally wearing it on their face. Moreover, they shared a new video of them donning a full costume of The Grinch that looks like it could’ve appeared in a live-action film of it. It’s unclear whether the singer and actress will use this fit for something grander or if they just wanted to pop off and go a little bit harder on the “a very extra Christmas” front. Either way, the results certainly speak for themselves, and we can’t imagine what they might do as an on-screen Grinch. After all, the Kansas City native is intertwining the worlds of movies and music more than ever these days.

Whether this Grinch outfit is for a video, some promo material, or just for fun, we’re glad that they’re celebrating with style and joy. This was an excellent year for Janelle Monae: their album The Age Of Pleasure, while not as conceptually daunting as previous work, still ranks as one of 2023’s best, waviest, and most soothing auditory offerings. In addition, they also caused a lot of noise with their tour and proudly stamped their identity into the industry as always. Hopefully 2024 yields even more great things in whatever artistic lane will be tackled next.

What’s more is that Janelle Monae is also sharing this joy and excitement with plenty of other musical icons. For example, they recently tore it up at the club with Victoria Monét and Teyana Taylor, and the chemistry between these creatives is truly special. Not only are they all accomplished as directors and world-builders, but you’d be hard-pressed to find folks who do it as stylishly as them. Even when they just go out to have fun, these artists never fail to impress and captivate with their presence.

Meanwhile, the 38-year-old recently performed with Usher at a Las Vegas show, an unlikely but very welcome crossover. That shouldn’t have surprised us, though; they often collaborate with so much diverse talent. Fingers crossed for even more special team-ups in the new year. Lil Pump Shares New Video In Full Makeup Sparking Fan Debate

In a new clip making the rounds online, Lil Pump sparked pretty rigorous debate among fans. In the clip he appears to be wearing a full face of makeup. He appears to have done it for a joke at the expense of girls taking selfies in the truck he’s driving. He captioned the video “Is this accurate?” which seems to be in reference to the joke, though some are interpreting the entire clip differently.

In the comments of a repost of the video, fans debate whether he’s actually wearing all that makeup or using some kind of filter. “Is this a filter or a real beat? Am I high?” the top comment on the post asks. Many responses to that comment and other comments on the post pose similar questions as fans breakdown his appearance. “Bro using a filter or he got on makeup??” another also asks. Others point out the amount of effort that would have gone into doing his makeup for such a short video. “But, did he make a video making fun of them or was it really to show that’s he’s in one too? Clock that tea!,” another top comment reads. Check out the full clip and the divisive fan reactions to it below.

Lil Pump’s Makeup Divides Fans

Elsewhere in the comments, fans reference a different recent Lil Pump story. That story was Pump getting his nails done and flexing the manicure online. Unsurprisingly fans were divided and it even inspired The Game to take to the comments to express his disapproval with the move. Pump has never been shy about his fashion and often makes waves these days for changing his appearance frequently.

Pump is also still controversial for his association with Donald Trump. After famously being touted as a supporter on stage during Trump’s last campaign, they’re still affiliated. The rapper received a shoutout from the former president at a recent rally in Florida. Do you think Lil Pump actually had his makeup done for the short clip, or is he using an impressively accurate filter? Let us know in the comment section below.

Ice Spice Without Makeup Sparks Debate Online

Ice Spice’s breakout single, “Munch (Feelin’ U)” solidified her status as one to watch in 2022, and since then, her star has only grown brighter. As any celebrity knows, fame and criticism come hand-in-hand, and there seems to be a fascination among some online with humbling the 23-year-old as she continues to rack up the accolades. Over the weekend, a fresh-faced photo of Spice without makeup went viral on Twitter. Though her skin is clearly glowing in the image, haters on the platform attempt to bash her for looking different without her usual foundation and eyeliner.

“Ice Spice no makeup on. [I don’t know] how to feel anymore 💔,” the original poster wrote with a throwback picture of the New Yorker. Not only is the photo taken from an angle that likely wouldn’t flatter anyone, but it also makes Isis Gaston’s forehead look larger than normal. It’s worth noting that this wouldn’t change, even if she was wearing a full face of makeup. Despite this, strangers online are slamming her natural beauty and bubblegum pink wig, which seems to be the real issue – not her bare complexion.

Ice Spice’s Fresh Face Goes Viral

“Hair look like a wig bruh,” the OP wrote in the comments, failing to recognize that it resembles one because it is a wig. “You are SLOW,” someone clapped back at them. “This why Drake unfollowed her,” another person speculated. Thankfully, Spice has plenty of Munchkins and Munches rushing to her defence online. “Pretty b**ches always got the biggest foreheads I love it,” they gassed her up.

Rihanna’s New Fenty Beauty Photos Are The “Serve Of The Century”

Fenty Beauty recently dropped off a new photo campaign starring Rihanna herself on the brand’s Instagram account, and fans are gagged. In one of the posts, the hitmaker is seen in a show-stopping red lip and an understated eye look. The beat, of course, managed to complement her new lighter locks perfectly. “Y’all red-y for this @badgalriri serve of the century?” the caption reads. “All eyes on Muva’s sultry, stunning night out #FENTYFACE slay. And you already know the lips stay on RED!”

The post further provided fans with a list of products used on Rihanna in the photo, so they can recreate the look themselves at home. The brand also shared a video of RiRi perfecting her makeup in a mirror, though the audio is muted. “When you’re talking about the other trash a** mascaras on the market and have to mute the video,” a voiceover hilariously declares.

Rihanna Stuns For Fenty Beauty

“Isss #HellaThicc or nothin’ bish!” the caption also reads. This is far from the first look the performer’s knocked out of the park lately, however. She showed out at the F1 Grand Prix earlier this week with ASAP Rocky by her side. RiRi fittingly stunned in a sporty, and pricey, fit. She even wore an ankle watch consisting of “70 carats of round and emerald-cut diamonds, set in 18K white gold,” worth a whopping $400K.

The couple also surprised fans in Vegas recently, turning heads with their bold looks. Rihanna was seen wearing a long brown leather jacket, fully flexing her face card with a sleek updo. ASAP Rocky, on the other hand, rocked an eye-catching lime green jacket from his collection, which he paired with some navy carpenter pants and a baseball cap reading “ALLAH.” What do you think of Fenty Beauty’s new photo campaign? Are you a fan of RiRi’s red lip? Share your thoughts in the comments section down below, and keep an eye on HNHH for more updates.

Snoop Dogg Trolls Shannon Sharpe For “First Take” Makeup, Hall Of Famer Responds

Snoop Dogg was eager to get in on the trolling over Shannon Sharpe’s over-exaggerated makeup on a recent episode of First Take. “Rev Sharpe84. Got them fans for the congregation [laughing emoji] [pray emoji] [peace emoji],” Snoop wrote on Instagram alongside an edited, sepia-colored photo of Sharpe. “Snoop you wrong 4 this [laughing emojis],” Sharpe playfully shot back in the comments. Other comments included gems such as “the look your grandma give you when you ain’t paying attention in church”.

The incident stemmed from Shannon’s appearance on First Take this week, which featured the pundit with some incredibly pronounced lips. Sharpe himself took to social media to address the viral look. “Appreciate the concern over my makeup this morning on @FirstTake. This was her 1st time doing my makeup and it was a little heavy. My appearance is important not as important as my takes. Hopefully, the takes were gr8 as usual. #LipSparringChamp #BestDressed #Espn,” Sharpe wrote.

However, this isn’t the first time Snoop has taken some jabs at Sharpe. Back in May, Snoop was a guest on Undisputed. While there, he gifted some Death Row chains to Sharpe and Skip Bayless. “Put the top on it. See what it do — Oh, rose gold for the both of ’em. Ya’ll don’t get the yellow gold. Ya’ll get the rose gold,” Snoop instructed as the pair unboxed their chains. “You got the drip Skip. I’m surprised you don’t have your drip on today,” Snoop continued to tease.

Sharpe in particular was very taken with his gift. “I was gonna ask for one of these. I don’t have to ask for one now. Guess what? I’m coming out here tomorrow with it on, I’m gonna have to wear a sweater because they’re gonna have to see this. I’m not gonna lie, I’m not wearing a jacket, I’m wearing this tomorrow,” Sharpe added, holding the chain to the camera,” Sharpe said. Snoop is yet to appear on Sharpe’s new ESPN gig.
