Meek Mill Says Rappers Are Paid More To Sound Ignorant

Meek Mill has long been an advocate for progressive social change and criminal justice reform. Over the weekend he teamed up with the Governor of Illinois to pass a new piece of legislation aimed at reform. The law targeted non-criminal technicalities that can cause those on parole to be returned to prison without committing any additional crimes. Meek spoke glowingly of the opportunity to contribute to such significant progress. “That’s a milestone in my life. When I started making music, I was just trying to get out of the ghetto and my environment. But to be a part of something that changes bills and laws that actually affect me and my people, it’s my legacy,” the rapper said.

Recently, Meek Mill also spoke at an NAACP event on a panel of those discussing various issues. When given the opportunity he discussed the difference between being on a stage like that and being on stage as a rapper. During the discussion, he mentions the subject matter he has often rapped about. He specifically cites the fact that rappers are often paid more the more they rap about ignorant subject matter. He concludes the though by saying “The things that fund us, don’t power me forward.” Fans in the comments agreed. “Jay-Z said it on Moment of Clarity – I dumb down for my audience and double my dollars They criticize me for it, yet they all yell “holla” If skills sold, truth be told, l’d probably be lyrically Talib Kweli,” reads one of the top comments.

Meek Mill Explains Rap Lyrics

Over the weekend Meek Mill made a surprise appearance at Gillie Fest. The festival was put up to honor Gillie Da Kid’s son after his tragic passing last month. After performing, Meek teamed up with G Hero and Sauce Walka for a surprise cypher. The clip made the rounds on the internet impressing fans in the days following.

Lil Wayne Says JAY-Z Inspired Him To Stop Writing His Lyrics

Lil Wayne says that he chose to stop writing down his lyrics after he learned that JAY-Z had done the same. He recalled the decision during a recent interview on The Pivot podcast.

“The moment I heard it, I stopped. You can ask them,” Wayne said, confirming the last time he ever wrote down his lyrics. The remark brought with it jokes from fans on social media. One Instagram user commented: “Sounds about right… Music been trash since 2008.” Another wrote: “The amount of terrible rap we’ve gotten since this became public knowledge is ridiculous i directly correlate this thinking to the decline of hip-hop.”

JAY-Z actually joked about inspiring “a generation of bad writers” during an interview with MTV News regarding his process back in 2007. Despite choosing not to write, he still revealed that he had recently advised one of his nephews to write as much as possible, explaining that he had simply gotten in the habit of not writing. “My process is different now,” he said at the time. “It sounds great on paper, like ‘I’mma sit down, I’m going to write the entire album like I did before.’ But once you get back in the studio and you’ve been doing this process for years and years now, so it just felt natural to do it the way I’ve been doing it: no paper, no pen, just listen to the music.”

It’s not the first time Wayne has revealed that he followed suit in JAY-Z’s technique. He also discussed the decision during an interview on the I Am Athlete podcast last year. He said at the time: “At like 16 or 17, I made a choice that I’m about to stop writing. Like, I’m about to stop writing my sh*t out. I had too many [thoughts coming at once]… that’s when that really started happening. I told you, I deal with that… the words keep popping up in my damn head, and that’s when it really started happening, becoming a headache, a real problem. That’s when I said, I’m not about to write no more.”

Lupe Fiasco Hilariously Comments On Drake’s Lyrics

Lupe Fiasco is an artist who is known for being a truly incredible lyricist. Throughout his career, he has provided fans with some truly incredible albums. Moreover, he is someone who is always pushing the envelope and providing fans with new music. We have gotten a couple of singles from Lupe here and there over the last few months, and they have all been great. That said, despite all of his success, there are still times when Lupe has been made to feel “regular.” As it turns out, Drake may be one of the reasons for this.

We know this thanks to a meme that was posted on Twitter recently. In the video clip below, you can see how the meme makes fun of Drake and how his lyrics will have ordinary folks feeling like losers. From sleeping at the Sheraton to wearing New Balance and Levis, Drake has taken aim at a lot of elements of modern living. Overall, it is easy for Drake to do this as he has a whole lot of money. Although, sometimes, it comes at the expense of his fans’ egos. As Lupe Fiasco explains, Drake has made him question his own self.

Doja Cat Says It’s Her “Undying Job” To Hate Those Who Misquote Her Lyrics

Doja Cat has recently taken to social media to call out those who have misquoted the lyrics to her new single, “Attention.” She replied to one Twitter news outlet, shading them for “butchering” her song. Doja also went on to diss Genius, claiming that the lyrics they provide are “never” correct. She went on to confirm that whoever messed up the lyrics is a “gummy dummy.”

Doja dropped “Attention” last night, leaning into Illuminati rumors with it’s accompanying music video. Earlier this week she also teased the drop, sharing a clip of the video on social media. Fans were eager to get listening to her latest offering, after she previously shared the single’s blood-splattered artwork. Speculation surrounding Doja’s upcoming album has run rampant, with listeners hoping that the single kicks off her next project.

Doja Cat Asks “Who The F**k Is The Source” For Butchered Lyrics

“Just flex bro just let me do my sh*t, Why does she think she’s Nicki M? She think she’s hot sh*t,” Rap Alert incorrectly quoted Doja’s song on Twitter, noting that she referenced Nicki Minaj. Doja then responded, “Love when they butcher my f***ing lyrics,” adding, “Who the f**k is the source for this sh*t?” When a fan asked the artist whether or not they can trust Genius to provide the correct lyrics, Doja told them no. “NEVER go to Genius for lyrics,” she writes, “EVER.” The star added a cheeky smiley face. A fan then Tweeted at Doja, “Whoever keeps messing up your lyrics is such a gummy dummy,” which she later retweeted. Doja claims it’s her “undying job to hate” those who misquote her lyrics, “for eternity.”

Doja’s recent Twitter rant wasn’t the first time she went went off on social media. Last month, she received major backlash after she called her fans “dumb” on Twitter. She also received some side-eyes after she called her albums Hot Pink and Planet Her “cash grabs.” “Y’all fell for it,” she told listeners in May, “now I can go disappear somewhere and touch grass with my loved ones on an island while y’all weep for mediocre pop.”

Kid Cudi Criticizes Apple Music For “Making Up” “Porsche Topless” Lyrics

Yesterday, Kid Cudi took to Twitter to call attention to a recent mishap that happened involving his new song, “Porsche Topless.” He claims in his Tweet that although he provided Apple Music with the correct lyrics to the song, they instead made up their own lyrics to provide to fans. “Hey Guys @AppleMusic, I put in the time to write out all my lyrics and send them to u,” the Tweet reads. “Its really stressful to see you guys just make up whatever lyrics you want and not include the proper lyrics that were given to you. Please fix PORSCHE TOPLESS so my fans have the correct lyrics. Thanx! Scott.” Apple’s DJ Reflex then reportedly fixed the lyrics, leading to Kid Cudi shouting him out on Twitter.

Alongside the single’s release, Kid Cudi also revealed the album title for his latest project last week. Dubbing it INSANO, he told fans that the new album will be his most “powerful” contribution of all. “I’ve never made a project this powerful before in my life. Sitting, listening to these mixes, I just know that this shit is going to move you,” Cudi revealed.

Kid Cudi Asked Apple Music To Correct Lyrics

“Y’all are going to f*ck with this shit in such a major way and I’m so f*cking excited. I just wanted to get on here and just let y’all know that I’m not gonna let y’all down,” he said in March, “This is gonna be the album of the year right now, I’m not playing. This is not a f*cking joke. Tell everybody you f*cking know, ok?”

In April, it was also confirmed that Kid Cudi will produce and star in a new horror film. He’ll work alongside Sam Levinson to produce Hell Naw, which he claims will “f*ck you up.” “You will laugh, oh yes you will, but the horror aspect of this movie will really be something to see. You will be shook. I promise,” he told fans. “This movie has been 5 years in the making. I am telling the world now, this film will fuck you up in all the best ways. I have been a horror fan since I was 7 years old,” he also claimed. “The first horror movies I ever saw were Night of the Living Dead and Evil Dead. Shaggy Reveals The Real Meaning Of “It Wasn’t Me”

Shaggy’s 2000 song “It Wasn’t Me” has stuck with fans for more than two decades since it was originally released. In fact, the singer still gets asked about the song quite often in interviews. Just last year he spoke on one of the major influences for the track. In a recent interview with People, the song came up again and Shaggy clarified some of the meaning behind it.

Fans of the song were surprised to hear that the track is actually against cheating, despite what the lyrics have led many to believe. “It was a big misconception with that song because that song is not a cheating song. It’s an anti-cheating song. It’s just that nobody listened to the record to the end,” Shaggy clarified. This isn’t the first time he’s had to supply this explanation either. “No one ever really buys into that, and I keep explaining it to people. Then, they go listen to it back and be like, ‘Oh dude, I totally missed that.’”

This wouldn’t be the first time that Shaggy has had to clarify things recently either. Last year he addressed long-circulated rumors that he had turned down a chance to feature on Rihanna’s long-awaited next album. He explained that the situation was more complicated than it originally seemed. It turns out that scheduling conflicts got in the way more than any artistic differences. That explanation came after the story had repeatedly been altered and revitalized by various outlets.

Shaggy has stayed busy musically even decades into his career. Just last month Shaggy dropped his first-ever EP “In The Mood” which followed his album “Come Fly Wid Me” from last year. Shaggy’s 2019 album “44/876” won a Grammy for Best Reggae Album, his second win and first since 1996. Let us know what you think of Shaggy clarifying the original meaning behind “It Wasn’t Me” in the comments below. Additionally, stay tuned to HNHH for more news from around the music world.

Chief Keef Fan Recites His Lyrics While Getting Arrested

Sosa fans go hard for the Chicago pioneer, even as they’re getting dragged into a police car. Moreover, a Chief Keef fan recently went viral on TikTok and Instagram for reciting some of his lyrics while getting arrested. More specifically, he cited his classic 2014 track “Earned It,” from which he could’ve gotten a slew of classic Sosa bars. However, the one he picked was just too fitting to pass up on, even adding on to the situation with a twist of irony. “‘But I’m bonding right out, I ain’t broke,’” he exclaimed. “‘N***as ain’t getting no money, it ain’t a joke.’ And I’m out on bond! F**k you talkin’ ’bout? And I’m out on bond and I just out yesterday!”

Furthermore, the Chief Keef fan in question apparently goes by Lil B (no, not the Based God). As bystanders and even the police laughed along, the two officers put him in handcuffs as he kept letting loose. I guess Lil B spent his money because he earned it. Regardless, it’s one of the more notable Chief Keef references in recent memory.

Chief Keef Fan Reps His Bars- Even While Getting Arrested

Of course, such callbacks are peppered prolifically throughout the rap world given the 27-year-old’s massive influence. During our interview with GloRilla, she named Chief Keef as her favorite rapper, and his high-energy rawness definitely shows up in her own work in a fresh new way. When talking to HopHopDX on a red carpet, she went into further detail concerning her Glo Boy fandom. “She say she love me, whatever that is,” she recited at the 2022 AMAs from Keef’s “Save That S**t.” “Do me a favor, save that s**t.”

“I never have one song when I say this, but Chief Keef — all of his music just made me want to rap,” she told Posted On The Corner. “You can hear it in the songs that I make; I be liking to make people [move]… and Chief Keef do that to me! He make me just wanna get turnt up. So yeah, Chief Keef, all his songs. I’m a big Chief Keef fan.” For the latest updates on the legendary Sosa and more fan moments, stay logged into HNHH.

Daz Dillinger Alleges JAY-Z Owes Him Money Over Dr. Dre‘s “Still D.R.E.”

Daz Dillinger alleges that JAY-Z owes him money for his ghostwriting of Dr. Dre‘s “Still D.R.E.,” which he claims borrows lyrics from Snoop Dogg’s “Serial Killa.” Daz appeared on that song as one-half of Tha Dogg Pound with Kurupt. He explained his reasoning during a recent interview with Home Grown Radio Podcast.

As for the lyric Daz claims JAY-Z ripped, it goes “If you ain’t up on thangs/ Snoop Dogg is the name, Dogg Pound’s the game/ It’s like this, they don’t understand.” For “Still D.R.E.,” the song goes “(If you ain’t up on thangs) Dr. Dre is the name/ I’m ahead of my game.”

“So in my mind, JAY-Z was listening to ‘Serial Killa’ while he was writing that motherfuckin’ rhyme, and I wanna get my money for that,” Daz said, before demanding “some percentages” from him. He said that he tried to contact the rapper one time but was threatened with legal action in response. “Music has no statute of limitations,” he added.

Daz also reflected on getting money from Suge Knight back in the day. Later in the same interview, he explained that he was owed over $2 million from the music mogul. “Shit, I got a check for like $2.3million from Suge Knight,” Daz said when asked about his biggest payday. “Delmar Arnaud, Suge Knight, Death Row Records, $2.5million. I had to give Kurupt some too, I had to go in and strong arm Suge to get the money. I had everybody in they office hemmed up against the wall, n***a. We on mushrooms. We in that muthafucka lit! N***a in the corner laughing. I felt a little something, n***a, I ran, ahhh! Had a big ass muthafukin’ diesel screwdriver. You know them big long diesel screwdrivers?”
