Drake Calls Nail Polish Backlash “Homophobic”

Drake Dreamville

Drake is secure in his masculinity- and isn’t afraid to show it, clapping back at critics who felt some type of way about his recently painted nails.

In a recent Instagram post, Drake addressed Lil Yachty, who he claims told him to paint his fingernails as it would help him stop biting them. On July 3, Drake showed off pink nails on his IG story. Naturally, his audience was divided on the “Rich Flex” artist’s manicure.

On Monday, Drake (who has just kicked off his It’s All a Blur tour with 21 Savage), seemed to jokingly address Lil Yachty, writing

“GET OUT MY COMMENTS YOU TOLD ME TO PAINT MY NAILS SO I STOP BITING THEM AND NOW THE WORLD IS BEING HOMOPHOBIC FOR THE 1st TIME SINCE ‘RICH FLEX…which wasn’t that long ago now that I think about it….wait is the world homophobic? Smh.”

Yachty wrote back ““woo-sah brother, your [sic] not supposed to have these episodes in public, it’s fine. They just don’t get u bro #UDIFFERENTAF!!”

Drake is hardly the first male celebrity to paint his nails. Machine Gun Kelly has his own nail polish line, Bad Bunny has rocked brightly colored digits, and A$AP Rocky said in an interview with Vogue that he feels “like men should be able to do nail art without feeling feminine,” noting in the same interview that his nails were painted with Prada fall 2019 motifs, including the broken heart and Frankenstein. In fact, Vogue even highlighted famous male celebrities who have rocked colored nails.

Drake Says His Painted Nails Have The World Acting Homophobic For The First Time Since “Rich Flex”

As a Scorpio, Drake has become accustomed to triggering extreme reactions in those he crosses paths with. He’s been one of the biggest names in hip-hop for over a decade so the father of one obviously has a lot of fans, but with that sort of fame comes inevitable haters too. The latest decision the world has been criticizing Drizzy for is his manicure, which has transitioned from a yucky yellow to a pretty pink as he’s learned more about the world of nail art.

The Canadian has always been something of a trendsetter, so seeing him experiment with typically feminine things isn’t surprising. As it turns out, however, he actually began painting his nails to curb the habit of biting them. Drake revealed this during an Instagram back-and-forth with Lil Yachty, with the Georgia native trolling his friend on his It’s All a Blur Tour. “Boy got them heavy hangers in his ear,” Lil Boat wrote.

Drake and Lil Yachty Discuss Homophobia

“GET OUT MY COMMENTS,” Champagne Papi quickly responded. “YOU TOLD ME TO PAINT MY NAILS SO I WOULD STOP BITING THEM AND NOW THE WORLD IS BEING HOMOPHOBIC FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE ‘RICH FLEX,’” he went on, referencing a song from Her Loss that previously went viral for Drake’s “zesty” lyrics. “Which wasn’t that long ago now that I think about it,” the Scorpion rapper added. “Wait is the world homophobic? Smh.”

Amid his close friend’s crisis, the “Act Up” writer stepped in to calm him down. “@champagnepapi, woo-sah brother. [You’re] not supposed to have these episodes in public,” Boat joked. “It’s fine, they just don’t get [you] bro #UDIFFERENTAF.” While Lil Yachty has always been a supporter of Drake’s style choices, Andrew Tate simply can’t relate. The embattled podcaster declined to meet up with Champagne Papi due to his perfectly manicured nails, leading the Let’s Start Here artist to mercilessly troll him. Read what Yachty had to say at the link below, and check back later for more hip-hop/pop culture news updates.

Straight & Supportive: Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, Lil Yachty & Other Male Rappers That Embrace LGBTQ+ Allyship & Advocacy

Jay-Z x Lil Wayne x Lil Yachty

While female allyship and solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community have been prominent, there is a growing recognition of straight male rappers who have become allies and advocates. Over the years, several unexpected male artists have shown their support, embracing and championing the rights and visibility of LGBTQ+ individuals. From Jay-Z’s connection to A$AP Rocky’s endorsement […]

‘F*ck Sean Paul,’ Lil Yachty Said While Making It ‘Very Clear’ That He Doesn’t ‘F*ck With Sean Paul’

Lil Yachty neither forgives nor forgets, it appears: Sean Paul once threw shade at Yachty, and Yachty still isn’t cool with Paul.

Yachty recently shared the debut episode of A Safe Place, his new podcast co-hosted by MitchGoneMad. In the June 28 episode, Yachty and Mitch discussed “falling off,” with Mitch bringing up Sean Paul. Yachty responded, “Nobody ever said Sean Paul fell off. They just stopped making music. I don’t think they’re still dropping music… By the way, f*ck Sean Paul. I want to make that very clear, I don’t f*ck with Sean Paul. Sean Paul once dissed me in a radio interview.”

The interview Yachty’s talking about (as Complex notes) is a 2016 appearance on The Breakfast Club, not long after Yachty claimed he couldn’t name five songs by the Notorious B.I.G. or Tupac. Paul said, “If it was really about talent in the hip hop industry, you wouldn’t have some of these younger cats talking that […] the Lil Yachty dem. The ‘boat boy.’ I mean, I don’t know much of the dude’s music either. I don’t like his comments. Those are artists I revere. I understand that probably kids don’t care about writing right now. I understand they don’t know where hip-hop started.”

Lil Yachty Will Answer Fan Questions & Give Advice On His New Podcast

Georgia-born rhymer Lil Yachty was just 18 years old when he blew up thanks to SoundCloud in 2016. In the years since, he’s delivered projects like Teenage Emotions, Nuthin’ 2 Prove, and most recently, the experimental Let’s Start Here. Lil Boat’s talent has also allowed him to forge close friendships with huge figures such as Drake, who’s never been one to shy away from giving his young pal his flowers. Earlier this month, the pair linked up to do a Stake live stream together via Kick.

While the Canadian kept us laughing with his painted nails and declined credit card, fans were obviously happy to have Yachty in the vicinity too. It remains unclear if the heads at Kick followed through with Drizzy’s idea of signing the “Broccoli” hitmaker to their platform. Nevertheless, Yachty is obviously feeling inspired as he announced via his Instagram Story earlier this week that his first-ever podcast episode will be dropping soon. Rather than using his platform to discuss topics of his own choosing, the 25-year-old is eager to give fans an opportunity to connect with him on the show.

Lil Yachty Hops on the Podcast Bandwagon

“Filming my first podcast,” Yachty wrote on Monday (June 12). “Send me any questions [you] want me to answer/any advice [you] need. Haha let’s go,” he added before hundreds of responses presumably poured in. The “Act Up” writer didn’t explicitly share when he plans to drop the podcast episode, but the fact that he’s recording something is promising.

While there’s definitely excitement surrounding the news, some replies in @nojumper’s comment section expressed disdain for yet another celebrity-hosted internet show. “Just what the world needs. They just gonna be talking about finger nail polish etc,” one critic speculated. “I’m good.” What advice would you most like to receive from Lil Yachty? Let us know in the comments, and check back later for more hip-hop/pop culture news updates.

Drake & Lil Yachty’s Bromance Continues As Canadian Urges Kick To Sign His Collaborator

Drake has rapped about having “No Friends In The Industry” before. Of course, that’s obviously not true as he’s frequently linking up with his contemporaries and other famous faces. One artist who the father of one spends no shortage of time with is Lil Yachty. The “Brocolli” artist joined him earlier this year for A Moody Conversation interview that had both him and Drizzy going viral on social media for weeks to follow due to their antics.

At the time, they discussed how the Canadian sometimes feels as though he’s comparable to a woman with huge breasts. We additionally heard about his plans for retirement, which don’t seem to be coming to fruition anytime soon. Since then, the pair’s bromance has only continued to grow stronger, with their most recent link-up being broadcast for fans to see this past weekend on Kick. Drake was teaming up with online gambling company Stake to give away $1 million in prizes but unfortunately found himself fiending embarrassment when his credit card was publicly declined on a $500 transaction.

Aside from that hilarious moment, the So Far Gone hitmaker has also been meme’d for sporting both painted nails and a “state property” badge on his outfit. While it may not have been his finest hour in terms of fashion, Drake proved that he’s a great friend to Lil Boat by encouraging Kick to give him a streaming deal after seeing how many people in the comments were pleased to see the southern-born lyricist make an appearance.

While puffing on a hookah, the 36-year-old declared, “Yo, listen! I don’t know who owns Kick, but I’m just saying… You know, you guys, I know the chat wants to see Yachty go live. I’ve been telling him, I feel like he could take over Kick. There’s a little business idea for you guys, whoever’s responsible for writing the checks. You see the chat’s going crazy for my brother.” Behind him, his “Oprah’s Bank Account” collaborator is seen grinning from ear to ear over all the love. Have Half A Million Dollars? Maybe Lil Yachty Will Sell You Drake’s Half-Eaten Pizza

Lil Yachty is an extremely successful professional musician, but that doesn’t mean he’s about to stop hustling and exploiting financial opportunities when they present themselves.

Over the weekend, Yachty joined Drake for a live stream with Stake, and during the broadcast, Yachty joked that he could quickly make some pretty good money by selling a slice of pizza that Drake had taken a bit out of. Indeed, later that day, Yachty posted a photo of the partially eaten slice on his Instagram Story and wrote, “Selling this drake bit slice of pizza for 500k.”

Presumably, Yachty is just joking around here. That said, if a serious buyer actually presented Yachty with half a million dollars in exchange for the pizza, that would probably be hard to turn down.

Meanwhile, Drake recently popped up in the season finale of Dave. Throughout the season, there had been nods to Drake, and sure enough, in the finale, he and Lil Dicky finally met up. Real-life Dicky said of Drake, “Drake is like the top of the mountain top musically and as a rapper. I had met Drake and he pulled me aside and told me the show is one of the more important shows of our generation and I knew he was a fan.”
