It’s been a hectic day for alleged disses, subliminals, and a whole lot of speculative fan theories. Not only do we have Drake’s new album For All The Dogs to digest, but his OVO Sound radio show also added to this pile of rumors. Moreover, Lil Yachty premiered a new, as-of-yet unreleased song on the platform, which many fans think contains a diss towards Lil Uzi Vert. It’s quite the innocuous reference and one that we can’t really confirm, but die-hards still put two and two together. What’s more is that it’s entirely possible that he responded to all these claims by calling cap on them via social media just hours after the station played the song.

“Do the right thing like you’re friends with Mookie,” Lil Yachty raps over a mellow, slow-paced beat. “No matter how bad they want the collab, I ain’t friends with [muted].” Of course, since he muted the intended mention, we might never know for sure who Lil Boat referenced. However, since he and Lil Uzi Vert don’t have a collab with each other (excluding a remix for HoodRich Pablo Juan), this is an understandable assumption. In addition, there’s the fact that they came up in a similar time and have fan crossover, as they were on the same legendary XXL Freshman Cypher in 2016.

Lil Uzi Vert’s “Barter 16” Gets Tentative Release Date

Unfortunately for Lil Uzi Vert fans, it seems like their upcoming mixtape Barter 16 is turning out to be just as mythical and long-awaited as their past projects like Pink Tape and Eternal Atake. Considering full song leaks and continuous teases, some fans fear that it may be too good to be true. Regardless, the Philly superstar is still committed to dropping the album soon, or at least that’s what they told fans (or reporters… or both) when they approached them in their vehicle. Moreover, Uzi stated that they want to drop the Young Thug-tributing release by the end of next week. Not only that, but they shared that they want to drop a whole other album, too.

Furthermore, this is one of a few recent hints that actually point to Barter 16 coming soon. For example, producer London On Da Track recently teased via Twitter that they handed the project in. Not only does it feature a charismatic performance from Lil Uzi Vert, but it’s another marker of a dominant year for Nicki Minaj. However, there was once a time when that collaboration wasn’t in the cards, and actually came about because Uzi was playing with her brand. Moreover, the Philly star recently sat down for a GQ interview about their No. 1 album, rehab, and a whole lot more. During their conversation, they remarked on how one call from Nicki late into the Pink Tape process pointed out the obvious potential for Queen Barb to be on something pink.

“Nicki hit me up like, ‘How you going to drop an album called Pink Tape and you know pink is my thing?’” Lil Uzi Vert revealed. “I was like, ‘Oh, no. You right. I’m going to send this over right now.’ And I sent it to her right there.” What’s more is that this has been a considerably pink year for Nicki Minaj, even by her high Barb standards. Free Slime,” he concluded, shouting out Young Thug.

We’ve spent a little over a week with Pink Tape by Lil Uzi Vert, and it made a massive impact when it landed after a lot of anticipation. Whether for its variety, its fan favorites, or its most experimental moments, it seems like everyone has something to say about it. Not only that, but for the first time in 2023 for a rap album, it looks like enough people tuned in to take it to the top commercially. Moreover, HITS Daily Double reported that Pink Tape garnered 165K equivalent album unit sales in its first week. In addition, this marks the first time a hip-hop project in 2023 is expected to go No. 1, as it beat out Morgan Wallen’s dominant 36-track behemoth One Thing At A Time for the top spot, with that album selling 111K this week.

Furthermore, other Top 10 debuts this week include K-pop group MY WORLD – The 3rd Mini Album at No. 9 and Rylo Rodriguez’s Been One at No. 10. Another debut didn’t make the Top 10, but still did great numbers, and that’s Puerto Rican reggaetón (and more) producer Tainy with his star-studded album DATA at No. 16. Other hip-hop chart mainstays this week are Young Thug’s BUSINESS IS BUSINESS at No. 13, Gunna’s a Gift & a Curse at No. 8, Lil Durk’s Almost Healed at No. 15, and Metro Boomin’s Spider-Verse soundtrack at No. 19. Of course, SZA’s SOS still got a lot of sales this week, as well, with it placing at No. 7.

Given how many great hip-hop albums are included, to make a huge fuss over Pink Tape being the first to go No. 1 would be a disservice to the quality releases this year. After years of anticipation, hype, and speculation, Lil Uzi Vert’s Pink Tape boasts no shortage of highlights, collaborations, and production highlights. After all, with 26 tracks ranging across rage, plugg, contemporary trap, and metal, how could it not? Still, one particular song that many old-school Uzi fans probably appreciate is “x2,” one of the synthiest and bounciest cuts on the whole project. With expressive vocalizations, simple flows, and outlandish lyrics from the Philly MC, it’s an energizing and fun track to bump wherever. In addition, the beat features the quick and lasery synths that much of their catalog boasts, and that became part of their trademark sound.

Moreover, “x2” actually features production credits from none other than Opium signee and new school fan favorite Ken Carson. However, another artist that Lil Uzi Vert teased to potentially be on the album was Playboi Carti, which didn’t end up panning out. While fans expressed disappointment at that reality, not all hope vanished as Uzi’s team accidentally uploaded a Carti collab to YouTube upon Pink Tape‘s release instead of the Don Toliver-assisted “Patience.” Many hope that this suggests that a collaboration between the “wokeuplikethis*” MCs isn’t far away.
