J Cole’s “7 Minute Drill” Title Explained By Producer T-Minus

T-Minus, who worked with J. Cole on his new song, “7 Minute Drill,” reflected on the making of the track at a Dreamville Festival panel with Complex‘s Jordan Rose on Friday. In doing so, he explained the title and how it stems from a writing drill Cole likes to use. The track is the closing song to his new mixtape, Might Delete Later.

“Cole likes to do these writing drills,” he began. “He calls them ‘seven-minute writing drills.’ He’ll write a joint for like seven minutes and see how far he can get, but he also does it with production. So over the last few years, when we cook up, he’ll be like, ‘Yo, make a beat in seven minutes. Go.’ Sometimes I’ll be like, ‘You do a verse in seven minutes.’ So after I did my seven-minute beat, I was like, ‘It’s your turn.’ He’s like, ‘Yo, give me a word.’ So I looked at my FL Studio system and I saw the word ‘light,’ so I was like, ‘light.’ He took it from there and started with ‘light.’”

Despite the title, it actually took Cole slightly longer than seven minutes, as T-Minus added: “I left the room, gave him seven minutes and came back. He’s like, ‘Yo, just give me another seven minutes. I think I’ve got something going.’ And, you know, the rest is history.” The track is making waves on social media for the lyrics, with which Cole disses Kendrick Lamar. The two have been feuding since Lamar took aim at Cole and Drake on Metro Boomin and Future’s hit song, “Like That.”

Benny The Butcher Reveals Significance Of New Album’s Title, “Everybody Can’t Go”

Benny The Butcher’s upcoming album Everybody Can’t Go unfortunately faced a delay until early 2024, but that doesn’t mean it’ll be any less exciting or impressive. Moreover, he recently remarked what the project’s title means to him, and what he meant for it to represent. The Black Soprano Family boss expressed these thoughts to Elliott Wilson and company on the Rap Radar podcast, where they also discussed how rappers deserve more respect than they get these days. In order to prove that feat, he wants to do so through the best way he can: the strength, power, and displays of skill and talent through the music.

“Everybody can’t go because they not cut like that,” Benny The Butcher began his breakdown. “They not made like that. And you can’t dance to every song, you know what I’m saying? Everything is not for everybody. With new levels come new devils, and I want more. I want bigger for myself. When you make that first cut, when you clearly see, ‘These people are not for me, they don’t need to be here.’ So the people who made that, who got past that cut, they think they’re safe. And what I mean by level up, you know, is my way of thinking. And of course, my way of making music.”

Elsewhere during their conversation, the Buffalo native also thanked J. Cole for recognizing the responsibility that comes with his status as a leader in the game, whereas others in Cole’s position are “not worried about pushing the culture forward.” “A lot of things that he do that he don’t have to do,” Benny The Butcher stated. “I know we can say that about a lot of people but it seems to me like he take interest in things like that, and that’s the difference. He realizes his responsibility of him being the top guy. And make no mistake, he’s the top guy. Cole is the top f***ing guy in this s**t right now, you know what I’m saying? And for him to understand there’s a responsibility just says a lot about him, ’cause a lot of these dudes don’t, man.”

Meanwhile, how did these revelations affect your anticipation or expectations for Everybody Can’t Go? What about the lead single for the album, the Alchemist-produced “Big Dog” with Lil Wayne? Lil Uzi Vert Admits That Nicki Minaj Pressed Them Over “Pink Tape” Album Title

Pink Tape‘s been out for a month now, and for many fans out there, “Endless Fashion” remains in rotation. Not only does it feature a charismatic performance from Lil Uzi Vert, but it’s another marker of a dominant year for Nicki Minaj. However, there was once a time when that collaboration wasn’t in the cards, and actually came about because Uzi was playing with her brand. Moreover, the Philly star recently sat down for a GQ interview about their No. 1 album, rehab, and a whole lot more. During their conversation, they remarked on how one call from Nicki late into the Pink Tape process pointed out the obvious potential for Queen Barb to be on something pink.

“Nicki hit me up like, ‘How you going to drop an album called Pink Tape and you know pink is my thing?’” Lil Uzi Vert revealed. “I was like, ‘Oh, no. You right. I’m going to send this over right now.’ And I sent it to her right there.” What’s more is that this has been a considerably pink year for Nicki Minaj, even by her high Barb standards. After all, you can’t make a hit song with Ice Spice for the Barbie film soundtrack and not expect a colorful presentation.

Lil Uzi Vert & Nicki Minaj’s “Endless Fashion”: Stream

Furthermore, we’re glad that these former collaborators realized that this was too perfect of an opportunity to pass up. Ironically enough, “Endless Fashion” is an interpolation of Eiffel 65’s “Blue (Da Ba Dee).” Previously, Nicki Minaj spoke to JT, Lil Uzi Vert’s boo, about her verse on it, with the City Girl asking Nicki about how fast she handed it in. “Girl I started @ 8am & finished like 5pm,” the Trinidadian MC explained. “When I tell you I was exhausted by the time I was done. Lol. B/c I was rushing to get it in on time. I kept telling [them] ’30 mins’ then hitting [them] back 2 hours later TB 15-20 more minutes Uzi!!!! I did that ALL DAY LONG YO.”

Meanwhile, with Pink Friday 2 on the horizon, fans can only dream of another collab between these two. Maybe the Queen will return the favor and have Uzi hop on a track that fits their brand. “Diamond Forehead,” “Pluto Power,” or another metal cover, perhaps? Regardless, log back into HNHH for the latest news and updates on Nicki Minaj and Lil Uzi Vert.

Jamahal Hill Relinquinshes UFC Title After Achilles Tear

Jamahal Hill has officially relinquished his UFC light heavyweight title after rupturing his Achilles during a pick-up basketball game. Hill had served as the division champion since a unanimous decision win over Glover Teixeira at UFC 283 in January 2023.

“I have unfortunately suffered an injury,” Hill said. “I’ve ruptured my Achilles’ [tendon]. It’s just one of those things that happens, it’s a tough injury. It’s one that will require surgery and will require time and rehab and things for me to be out for a while. Also with that, I was given an opportunity. I was given a blessing that came at the misfortune of someone else. Jiri Prochazka was the champion, he suffered an injury as these things happen. He gave up the belt and allowed for others to not hold the division. To keep the division moving forward. To keep entertaining, [and] to make sure the people had a champion. I’ll do the same.”

UFC Searches For A New Champion

With Hill stepping aside for the time being, it leaves UFC with a vacant belt. There is only currently scheduled light heavyweight bout at the time of writing. Former light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz, who fought for the vacant title in December 2022, has a fight at the end of July. Blachowicz, ESPN‘s #2 fighter in the division, feels like a natural choice for a title fight. While his July 29 opponent, Alex Pereira is a former middleweight champion, it doesn’t feel like the UFC will want to rush into a title fight. However, potentially a Blachowicz-Pereira rematch could have the belt on the line.

Furthermore, Jiri Prochazka is expected to return from his title-vacating injury by the end of 2023. There had been talk of a Hill-Prochazka fight to crown a “true” champion but obviously, that’s out of the question. Most likely, there will be a title fight between Blachowicz and Prochazka before the end of the year. Furthermore, Hill will then likely fight the reigning champion when he returns from injury. However, it’s far from ideal for the UFC with yet another “injury-vacated” title to deal with in such a short space of time.
