Kid Cudi Teases Netflix Series, ‘Entergalactic’

Kid Cudi

It looks like Kid Cudi may be taking a page out of the Beastie Boys’ book. Earlier, Netflix dropped a first-look teaser of Cudi’s new animated series “Entergalactic.” In July 2019, the streaming giant first announced the upcoming collab with Scott Mescudi, aka Kid Cudi. The self-proclaimed “Man on the Moon” described the project as […]

Kid Cudi Strives To Live By His Own Standards On The Determined ‘Do What I Want’

Kid Cudi’s last full-length project arrived at the end of 2020 with Man On The Moon III: The Chosen. Since then, Cudi has teased various projects, including his The Scotts joint project with Travis Scott, but nothing has arrived yet. All of that is set to change this year as Cudi confirmed his Entergalactic project will touch down at some point this year. Entergalactic is much more than an album, as it will also be accompanied by a Netflix animated series. As for the album itself, Cudi begins the rollout for that with the Take A Daytrip-produced “Do What I Want.”

The track is an effort that sees Cudi committed to living life exactly the way he wants to: free and without conforming to society’s standards. The track also interpolates Stephen A. Smith’s famous “stay off the weed!” video. “Do What I Want was the first song I did w Day Trip and I locked in w them heavy shortly after to make MOTM3,” wrote in a tweet for the song’s announcement earlier this week. “Im really happy ull finally get to hear it.”

“Do What I Want” arrives after Cudi shared the first trailer from the upcoming Entergalactic Netflix animated series. The show is set to feature Timothée Chalamet, Jessica Williams, Macaulay Culkin, Ty Dolla $ign, 070 Shake, Jaden Smith, Teyana Taylor, Vanessa Hudgens, Christopher Abbott, Keith David, and Arturo Castro. Black-ish creator Kenya Barris and Ian Edelman (How To Make It In America) will co-executive produce and co-write the show.

Kid Cudi Unveils The First Trailer For His Upcoming Netflix Animated Series, ‘Entergalactic’

Kid Cudi is ready to bring the world of Entergalactic to his fans this year. Just a day after Cudi announced the first single from his upcoming Entergalactic album, he returned today to share the first trailer from its accompanying Netflix animated series. It features Cudi’s character, Jabari, who is described as a “charming, creative visionary,” according to Consequence. Jabari is best friends with Jimmy, a weed dealer turned crypto bro, who is played by Timothée Chalamet. Elsewhere, Jessica Williams will star as Meadow, an up-and-coming photographer that is also Jabari’s neighbor and love interest. Macaulay Culkin plays Downtown Pat, a “downtown legend and life-long, city-wide delinquent.”

There will also be a decent list of musicians involved in the show. Ty Dolla $ign, 070 Shake, Jaden Smith, and Teyana Taylor are also confirmed as stars for Entergalactic while other actors like Laura Harrier, Vanessa Hudgens, Christopher Abbott, Keith David, and Arturo Castro will also make appearances. Entergalactic is co-executive produced and co-written by Black-ish creator Kenya Barris and Ian Edelman (How To Make It In America)

According to a synopsis from Netflix, Entergalactic is “an original, animated story about a young artist named Jabari as he attempts to balance love and success.” It continues, “Finding the latter brings Jabari a step closer to the former, when moving into his dream apartment introduces him to his new neighbor, photographer it-girl, Meadow. An explosion of art, music, and fashion, Entergalactic takes place in the only city that can handle all three: New York.”

You can watch the trailer for the upcoming show in the video above.

Kid Cudi On Painting His Nails: ‘I Don’t Care What Anybody Says When My Daughter Thinks It’s Dope’

Earlier this week, Kid Cudi served as the keynote speaker at a special dinner for New York-Presbyterian Hospital’s Youth Anxiety Center. As an outspoken mental health advocate, Cudi is open about his struggles with anxiety and depression.

As a musician and the father of an 11-year-old girl, Cudi opened up about his connection to music and maintaining an open dialogue with his daughter.

“Before I actually had therapy, the music was there for me,” Cudi said, per Vogue. “It was the perfect way to express myself and feel safe doing it. I’m always asking my daughter if she’s cool. I’m always checking in with her. That’s important; I feel like that’s good for our connection.”

Known for his unconventional fashions, Cudi wore a dress on Saturday Night Live last year when he was performing as a musical guest. He has also been seen with painted nails in recent photos. Although his stylings may be polarizing among fans, Cudi says the only opinion that matters is his daughter’s.

“Everything that I’m about, she’s about,” he said. “This is a taste of the next generation. She accepts me for as wild and rock and roll as I am… At no point has my daughter ever asked me why I paint my nails. She thinks they’re cool. I don’t care what anybody says when my daughter thinks it’s dope.”
