T.I. shared a preview of his upcoming single, “Active” featuring Kevin Gates on his Instagram account. The song accompanied a video highlighting moments from the Legendz of the Streetz Tour. Beginning back in February, the tour included a handful of other hip-hop heavyweights like Jeezy, 2-Chainz, and Jadakiss. Its last stop will be at the Barclays on April 23rd. The post is captioned “Got active this weekend” followed by song details and a note about being in Vegas for a performance at Jimmy Kimmel’s Comedy Club.
The Instagram preview is the first release of the song since its premiere on Atlanta’s V-103 radio station. Produced by the “Back In Blood” beatmaker, Turn Me Up YC, “Active” might be on the Atlanta rapper’s final album, Kill The King. T.I. announced the album and his retirement at the end of the video for his last single, “What It’s Come To”. In a 2017 interview with The Breakfast Club, T.I. revealed that he would release three more albums before he puts the mic away for good. Since then, we got the albums Dime Trap and The L.I.B.R.A. which puts Kill The King on track to be the rapper’s big finale.
T.I., who’s been the topic of various controversies in recent months, says that his “King Of The South” moniker has put a target on his back. He revealed to TMZ that fellow Atlanta rapper Big Boi warned him about labeling himself The King. He cautioned, “Life is a game of chess, and the name of the game is called Kill The King. That’s what you are setting yourself up for.” Thus the ATL actor’s final album.
T.I. told The Breakfast Club that he’s ready to “get the hell outta here”. Kevin Gates has evolved exponentially since his entry into music. Whether through his highly entertaining interviews or vast discography, the “Major League” rapper has spoken in great detail about his spiritual journey, battles with suicidal thoughts, weight loss, and sexual abuse. Continuing his exploration further into sexual healing and liberation, Gates dropped a new single, “Breakfast.”
Produced by DJ Chose, Charley Cooks, and WZRD BLVD, the track totes the line of sensual and raunchy. As the track opens, Gates sets the tone for what is to come, rapping, “Girl, you taste good, you my food, girl.”
The chorus, “Early breakfast for you, I got somethin’ special for you / I’ma beat that p*ssy ’til you snorin’ / Turn ’round, bend you over, I ain’t leavin’ no leftovers / Droppin’ d*ck off in the mornin’ / Mm-mhm, girl, you taste good, you my food, girl / Laid back, I’ma snack on you ’til your toes curl / Early breakfast for you, I got somethin’ special for you,” soon follows.
Gerard Victor of Shot Selection directed the accompanying video, making it clear that although the song doesn’t explicitly say who Gates is tussling in the sheets with, leading lady Dreka, who is Gates’ long-time partner, makes it quite clear she is the muse behind the track. The pair gives us a peak behind the curtain of the love nest in the mountains.
“Breakfast” comes on the heels of Gates’ re-release of his debut project, The Luca Brasi Story (A Decade Of Brasi), which celebrated its 10-year anniversary.

Beginning February with a bang, Kevin Gates surprised his fans on the first of this month by sharing his 2013 project, THE LUCA BRASI STORY on DSPs. The 22-track effort boasts popular titles like “IDGAF,” “IHOP,” and “Narco Trafficante” featuring Percy Keith. Additionally, friends like Master P, Curren$y, and Terrance Hines came through to assist the rap star.
Aside from that the last release we got from the father of two was last November’s FYP EP. However, on Sunday (February 5), his wife Dreka hinted that Kevin is cooking something up for listeners. On her Instagram page, the businesswoman posted a teaser for a new video single called “Breakfast,” and it looks seriously tasty, to say the least.
“Who…I mean… What do you like for #Breakfast?” Dreka asked followers in the caption. The visual begins with a landscape shot of snowy mountains and trees as the “Really Really” rapper’s name flashes across the screen. A white SUV eventually enters the frame, and after more scenic B-roll, we watch Kevin help his partner out of the passenger side.
She smiles ear to ear as he looks at her with adoration. Before you know it, the camera takes us into the kitchen, where the Gates family patriarch is shirtless and chefing up some food. After preparing a plate, he walks it over to Dreka, who sits patiently waiting on the couch in black lingerie.
The couple shares a sweet kiss, which cuts to footage of Kevin rapping the upcoming release out in the snow. No premiere date came along with the teaser video, but it’s been receiving plenty of love from friends and fans so far. “Love y’all together and ion even know y’all lol,” author Porsha Guobadia wrote.
“Yes girl he’s always gonna come back home,” and “The manager and wife. Y’all need to stay out of these folk’s business,” others wrote. “Listennnn, Dreka, if you with it! I’m with it,” someone else, still, teased the 36-year-old.
While rumours of their separation rocked the internet early last summer, many curious fans began digging into the couple’s history. When Kevin’s career was first taking off, Dreka’s role included DJing his shows and handing out his CDs to strangers. She remained loyal through various ups and downs over the years, leaving many shocked when they seemingly split in 2022.
Though she loves her husband dearly, the mother of two made it known that her own identity as a woman is important to her too. Kevin Gates, a devout Muslim, is no stranger to fasting as part of his religious observances. But in a new interview with Big Boy, he boasted a dubious record for his longest fast with no food or water, telling the host he went for nearly a month without eating or drinking.
“Fasting is when you don’t put nothing in your body,” explained, somewhat erroneously. “Fasting is nothing. A dry fast is when you don’t eat or drink.” When Big Boy prompted him to reveal his longest stretch of abstaining from food or drink, Gates said:
“The longest I’d have [ever] did a dry fasting was like close to a month, about three weeks. No food, no water.”
It’s not the wildest claim the Baton Rouge rapper has ever made. He once joked that the motivation for him to lose weight was a baby trying to breastfeed on his chest and he’s revealed some … odd … sexual proclivities (generally, Uproxx coverage sticks to his music and performances like “Major League” or his Sessions appearance).
However, if anyone is planning to emulate his example, it’s worth noting that the human body is very susceptible to dehydration and other health issues due to poor nutrition. Gates even points out here that he has trained his body to be able to go longer periods without food. Basically, consult a doctor before trying new diets — even for religious reasons — and consider that Islam doesn’t restrict the intake of water during month-long fasts like Ramadan, because you really do need it to stay alive.
