AMP Freshman Cypher 2024 Ranking

It’s been an eventful summer for the AMP Crew, who are only growing in popularity as the days pass. The crew moved out of the AMP house for the summer in Atlanta to relocate to New York, only to face a string of unfortunate events. Initially moving into a “trap house,” they eventually moved into their penthouse only to get booted out three days later. And if there’s any credence to Kai Cenat’s theory, the owner simply used AMP’s platform to move the $30M piece of real estate.

They’ve worked their way around these setbacks and still unleashed plenty of content online, even at their own expense. Take for example Kai’s Friday stream with Ice Spice and Lil Yachty, where they crammed themselves inside the back of a U-Haul truck. But beyond that, it’s clear that their summer domination continues, especially with their recent AMP Freshman Cypher. The 2023 edition found each member of AMP, Kai Cenat, Fanum, ChrisNxtDoor, Agent 00, Duke Dennis, and ImDavisss stepping up to the plate for a wildly entertaining cypher that also included a verse from Kevin Hart a.k.a Chocolate Droppa

But we have to be honest – these guys are basically cosplaying as rappers anytime they release a cypher. However, in some cases, making music seems like a viable career path if the streaming wave ends up crashing. In any case, we’re ranking the AMP Cypher, from worst to best. Let us know if you agree in the comment section below.

Kevin Hart

It’s Kevin Hart. He’s not serious, nor are we going to take his rapping efforts as Chocolate Droppa seriously. However, we have to give credit where credit is due since he was the only one who freestyle his whole verse.

Duke Dennis

This one is a bit of a disappointment considering the hype around his 2023 AMP Freshman Cypher. Out of everyone in AMP, Duke Dennis — who recently caught flack for his choice of attire — is the only person who could actually pass for a rapper by looks alone. It’s too bad his freestyle was subpar and he looked just as bored in the video. That’s not to say he’s a horrible rapper, either — he just sounds like a knock-off version of Moneybagg Yo. It’s Duke’s aura that does the heavy lifting during his verse.

Agent 00

The whole meme rap thing is hit-or-miss but clearly, its influence continues to seep through the fabric of pop culture. In the AMP Freshman Freestyle, Agent 00 raps with the ferocity of an angsty teenager, largely due to the shock value. We have to admit, his humor did shine through, even if it sounded like an attempt to test the boundaries of cancel culture with potty humor.

Kai Cenat

(Photo by Robin L Marshall/Getty Images)

There’s been an argument that streamers are the new rappers, and perhaps, there’s no better example of that than Kai Cenat. Though his freestyle felt underwhelming to close out the cypher, it felt like a moment where he could actually pop his sh*t without coming across as completely self-absorbed. Off the rip, he addresses the infamous Tyla moment before gliding through the rest of his track dishing out bars that speak to his come-up: his work ethic, sacrifices, and loyalty. It feels contrived at moments, and it’s hard to deny that Lil Yachty’s had some sort of influence on his pen and delivery. Overall, Kai held his own on this year’s AMP Freshman list and we got to salute his hustle.

ChrisNxtDoor

Perhaps one of the most obscure members of AMP, ChrisNxtDoor has certainly shown out as one of the more musically inclined members of the crew. Though his wordplay is impressive, it’s really his nasally yet raspy vocals that perfectly complement the riveting and spacey production choice on this record. A short effort by comparison, Chris’ verse in the cypher left a strong impression.

ImDavisss

ImDaviss of AMP delivers a stellar performance during the Freshman Cypher

A few bars in, ImDavisss stops the beat and reflects on how his music career hasn’t really panned out over the past three years. However, the latest AMP Cypher might eventually lead to a record deal for the budding artist. Sure, his raps are just fine but the second he leaps into the harmonies, he starts sounding like Bryson Tiller. There’s a lot of potential to be tapped into it so hopefully, Davis keeps this momentum up and drops some actual heat in the near future.

Fanum

Fanum really showed out as the MVP of the AMP Freshman Cypher 2024. Taking on a laidback, boom-bap-esque inspired production, the New Yorkisms flowed out of him smoothly in a way that had faint remnants of the jovial energy of Pro Era’s early come-up. However, Fanum really pulled out with high-energy, slick wordplay and one of the better-beat selections that positioned him at the top of this list.

Kai Cenat Explains His Viral Reaction To Hearing Drake On Lil Yachty’s Collaboration

Kai Cenat recently reflected on his premiere of Lil Yachty and Drake’s unreleased collaboration, “Super Soak,” during which he was elated about Drake’s verse as soon as the Toronto rapper began performing. Speaking about the drama surrounding his reaction, Cenat explained that he didn’t know Drake was featured on the track beforehand.

“The clip doesn’t explain the full story so dumbass idiots see sh*t and run with it,” he began. “So, when Yachty sent me the track with him and Drake on it, they was coming at Drake and saying that he sent me it to play it. Then on top of that, they was on my ass for the way I was reacting because I was yelling because I didn’t know that Drake was on the track. Word to my mother, Yachty sent it to me live. I asked him live, ‘Can I leak the whole thing?’ He said, ‘Yeah, f*ck it.’ I played it. I didn’t even know Drake was on the track. You know what I could’ve did with that? I could’ve took the unreleased and ran up a million with that motherf*cker bro. That’s why I reacted the way I did.”

When DJ Akademiks posted the explanation on Instagram, fans of Drake accused the haters of being Kendrick Lamar fans. “Cant believe all these grown men love kendrick so much they think the people they watch gotta have the same opinions as them,” one user wrote. Another countered: “Drake stans still bringing up Kendrick when this post has nothing to do with him ……. I’m starting to think that loss caused some of yall to have mental issues.” One more fan commented: “This got nothing to do with Kenny. It’s how he was hyping the song like he liked it so much first listen dancing and sh*t lol. It’s ok to do promo. Homie was just doing to much for it to be ANYBODY song.”

Kai Cenat Asked Ice Spice To Freestyle, But She Opted To Go More NSFW And Just Twerk Instead

When in doubt, twerk it out. This is a lesson Ice Spice learned yesterday (July 25). During a broadcast with popular streamer Kai Cenat, the “Phat Butt” rapper was able to wiggle her way out of his request for her to freestyle for his audience.

While promoting her debut studio album, Y2K, Kai thought it was be a great idea for Ice Spice to show off her lyrical styles to finally but hater to bed. But, Ice Spice had other plans. Instead of obliging with an 8 bar throwaway, Ice Spice delivered her best 8 count twerk off.

“That was my freestyle,” she joked, to which Kai rewarded with a round of applause.

However, users online weren’t as kind to Ice Spice in their responses.

“That’s all the talent she has,” wrote one user.

“I say this is a player that knows her limitations on the court,” penned another.

“Is we complaining, tho,” countered another.

“Sh*t I would rather her do this than to actually freestyle,” chimed another.

“Good strategy from Ice Spice she started dancing she knows she was finna get cooked from that freestyle,” joked another.

On the heels of the controversial 2024 XXL Freshmen Class cypher, Ice Spice might’ve dodged a load of backlash. In fact, Ice Spice seemingly pulled a play from Uproxx cover star Coi Leray’s book. When all else fails, go for what you know.

Or maybe Ice Spice stands by Vince Staples’ rule of thumb as it relates to promotional freestyles during album rollouts?

Ice Spice Checks Kai Cenat On Livestream For Trying To Smack Her Butt

On Thursday night, Ice Spice did a livestream with popular video content creator Kai Cenat to promote her debut album, Y2K. She and Cenat have streamed together in the past. His platform is one of the places newer rappers go to promote themselves or their music. Several clips from the stream are making the rounds on the internet, including one of Cenat attempting to smack Ice’s butt before getting caught.

Cenat tried to explain it away. Unfortunately for him, he stumbled through his words en route to an explanation that did not make much sense. Fans wasted no time making jokes at Cenat’s expense. One X user noted that Ice Spice had “eyes in the back of her head.” Others asked what he was doing. Ice did not take his explanation seriously, responding with the sarcastic tone befitting of someone from New York City.

Ice Spice Checks Kai Cenat On Stream

For Ice Spice, Cenat’s stream was the last stop on her album’s pre-release promotional tour. Y2K arrived on Friday at midnight. Earlier in the week, she was the subject of Rolling Stone‘s latest cover story. She went in depth about her relationships with Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift, dealing with negativity, and her “feud” with Latto. Cenat’s livestreams are a looser atmosphere, as fans have previously seen when he went live with Kevin Hart and Druski. Ice and Cenat are both from The Bronx as well, which they’ve talked about in the past.

Y2K comes with some fan intrigue. Ice Spice has been among the most popular rappers around for the last two years. The New York Times dubbed her “Hip-Hop’s New Princess” in a January 2023 profile. She’s rubbed shoulders with Taylor Swift, even getting on a remix of Swift’s track “Karma.” Despite those achievements, people if she could hold their attention for an entire album. Her Like..? EP was met with a mixed reaction. Much like that EP, Y2K is dividing fans early. Ice released nearly half the album as singles. None of them captured the public in the way that her songs with PinkPantheress or Nicki Minaj did last year. Hopefully, her stream with Cenat gives it a boost.

Ice Spice Twerks On Kai Cenat’s Stream After Being Asked To Freestyle

Ice Spice just dropped off her brand-new album, Y2K. This is her debut project and as you can imagine, there was a lot of hype going into this release. However, there were also quite a few reservations. With four out 10 songs already being known to the public, fans felt like Spice could have done more. Not to mention, the lead singles were not incredibly popular. Either way, there is a lot of intrigue about the project, and only time will tell what happens next for her.

Meanwhile, on Thursday night, Ice Spice decided to do a stream with Kai Cenat as a means of promoting the album. She and Kai have been flirty with one another in the past, so it should come as no surprise that they streamed. Overall, it was a fun time for both of them and there are some viral clips making it to the internet. In one of these clips, Kai asks Ice Spice to freestyle. However, she ended up twerking instead. You can check out this clip, below.

Ice Spice x Kai Cenat

Overall, this is going to be a make-or-break time for Ice Spice. People want to see that she is the real deal when it comes to hitmaking. However, the reactions to her latest songs have been brutal in a way. That said, it will be interesting to see whether or not the artist is able to subvert some of the narratives that have persisted as of late. Only time will tell whether or not this album is a true success or one of the biggest flops of the entire year.

Let us know what you think about Ice Spice and her new album, in the comments section down below. Do you believe that the new album is a disappointment? Drake & Lil Yachty’s New Song Draws Mixed Reactions

Drake might be coming back with new music soon. After a first half of 2024 that the Toronto rapper would probably like to forget, it seems that he’s trying to get himself back on track. Popular Twitch streamer Kai Cenat previewed a new Drake song, featuring frequent collaborator Lil Yachty. Cenat and Drake are friends, with Cenat often supporting his new music by playing it on streams. Drake shouted him out on the track “First Person Shooter” with J. Cole, though not by name.

Drake and Yachty have collaborated a lot in recent years. Yachty appeared on the For All The Dogs track “Another Late Night,” released last year. Yachty also has production credits on For All The Dogs and the Grammy-nominated Her Loss, Drake’s joint album with 21 Savage. Drake cited Yachty’s influence as why For All The Dogs became what it did. Fans had a lot to say about the new snippet, which is currently untitled.

Drake & Lil Yachty Song On Kai Cenat’s Twitch Stream

“Man Drake saving the summer once again,” said one Instagram user. Another took the new snippet as an opportunity to make fun of Kendrick Lamar fans. “Meanwhile Kenny fans still listening to that burnt out ahh track,” the user said. If nothing else, Stephen Curry agrees with Lamar’s hit “Not Like Us” being “burnt out.” Some fans did not want to hear Yachty appear on the song. “Nahhhh we didn’t need lil boat on this one,” and “Song is fire without yachty part!!” said two other users. Lil Yachty has often divided opinion, and this latest snippet is no different.

Drake has done two joint albums in the past. First was What A Time To Be Alive, his hit album with Future and Metro Boomin that took 2015 by storm. In 2022, he released the aforementioned Her Loss with 21 Savage, which was nominated for Best Rap Album at the 2024 Grammy Awards. Considering Drake and Yachty’s recent history, a joint album between those two next does not seem like an unlikely destination. Are you here for a collaborative album between the two? Will that get Drake’s career back on track? Sound off in the comments.

Kai Cenat Played An Unreleased Drake And Lil Yachty Collab Live On His Stream

Drake seems to be putting his feud with Kendrick Lamar behind him. Since dropping “Family Matters,” currently his final contribution to the diss track swap, Drake has linked up with Sexyy Red on “U My Everything” and Camila Cabello on a couple new tracks. Now, the story continues via a new Lil Yachty collab.

Streaming icon Kai Cenat previewed an unreleased Drake/Yachty track on his stream last night (July 23). The song doesn’t have an official title, but some have dubbed it “Supersoak” or “Super Soaked”

Drake sings on the chorus (per Genius), “I’m watching the moves and playin’ it close / S.O.D. (Stacks on deck), super soaked / Rainy days isn’t hers, matchin’ coat / Jet so big, it feel like a boat, stayin’ afloat / I’m watching the moves and playin’ it close / S.O.D., super soaked / She was a hoe, but I ain’t gon’ judge, ’cause that was way before.”

Drake isn’t the only one who’s kept busy in 2024. Yachty started the year by dropping his psychedelic album Let’s Start Here in January. In June, he linked up with James Blake for a joint project, Bad Cameo. Beyond Blake, he also collaborated with everybody from Faye Webster to McDonald’s.

Check out the video above.

Kai Cenat Premieres New Drake And Lil Yachty Song During Live Stream

Kai Cenat has skin in the hip-hop game. At least, he’s notable enough to warrant a mention. Drake referenced the Twitch streamer by name on his Kendrick Lamar diss, “Push Ups.” He also showed love to Cenat during a 2023 show. “Make some noise for my brother Kai Cenat one time in here, you know,” the rapper told the Atlanta crowd. The two appear to be on good terms, but fans were still totally caught off guard on July 23, when Cenat played a previously unreleased collab between Drake and Lil Yachty.

The song doesn’t have an official title, but Kai Cenat lets the entire thing play while he reacts in real time. The Twitch streamer counts down from ten before premiering the song, which he seemingly had never heard before. The beat and smooth cadence of the opening verse is classic Drake, or at least, the Drake that fans have gotten in the 2020s. His flow is reminiscent of numerous tracks on Her Loss (2022) and For All the Dogs (2023). Mileage may vary. That being said, Kai Cenat loves it. He struts around the room while Drizzy makes reference to an unfaithful woman.

Drake And Lil Yachty Skate Over A Moody Instrumental

The rapper also drops the line “Cleopatra working at the Pyramid tonight.” This seems like a direct nod to Frank Ocean’s 2012 single “Pyramids.” There’s a brief instrumental break in between Drake and Yachty’s verse, and Kai Cenat grows impatient. “Where you at, Boat,” he asks. The rapper then hops on the track with his trademark vocal warble. Yachty doesn’t flow as smoothly as Drake, but his bizarre inflections are more in line with what his fans like. Overall, the untitled song is pleasantly catchy. Not a smash, but the kind of deep cut that could anchor the back end of an album.

The timing of the song’s premiere makes sense, given Drake’s recent remarks. The rapper recently told DJ Akademiks that he plans to get back to making hits. “This is him to me,” Ak told his viewers. “He says, ‘Yo Ak, I’m back to giving everybody who loves me what they love from me.’” There’s no word on when fans will get a CDQ version of this Yachty collab. In the meantime, though, Drake will appear on the new Gordo album Diamante, which is out July 27. Maybe the rapper has a 2024 comeback in him after all.

The comedy and music festival will feature Lil Baby, Kai Cenat, Soulja Boy, Waka Flocka Flame, Yung Joc, Young Dro, Roscoe Dash, Navv Greene, Travis Porter, DJ Unk, Baby Drill, Baby Kia, Shop Boyz, Yung LA, F.L.Y., Rich Kidz, and Ugliest Rapper Alive.

“Coulda Fest won’t be a traditional music and comedy festival,” Druski told Billboard. “It’s going to be a celebration of Atlanta’s culture and a night full of hilarious sketches that bring us back to the special times in our city’s music history. Kai Cenat FaceTimes A$AP Rocky On Twitch Stream

Kai Cenat FaceTimed A$AP Rocky after meeting up with fellow A$AP Mob member Illz. Cenat was live on his Twitch stream when he ran into A$AP Illz, which quickly turned into Cenat on the phone with Rocky. The New York City natives exchanged pleasantries, as they had never met to that point, before hanging up the phone.

Cenat has been on live stream with some of the most popular names in entertainment. He recently collaborated with Kevin Hart, which went viral for several moments over the several hours they spent together. He spoke with LeBron James on FaceTime on that stream as well. The two of them met in real life during Team USA’s practice in Las Vegas. Neither party has ruled out the possibility of James appearing on Cenat’s channel. Although, it will probably have to wait a while as Team USA is in France for the Olympics.

Kai Cenat has had another banner year as a titan of Twitch. He recently went viral for a stunt he and popular YouTube creator MrBeast pulled off. On the Fourth of July, a replica of Cenat’s room went up in flames after fellow YouTuber ImDavisss lit fireworks in it. The video went viral, but Cenat and MrBeast, real name James Donaldson, had to explain that they did not really burn down Cenat’s actual room. Cenat has also become a prominent Elden Ring player. His livestream of him playing the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC pack lasted 166 hours and reportedly netted him over $400 thousand.

After nearly six years without a new album, A$AP Rocky finally announced something new. Rocky is releasing Don’t Be Dumb, his fourth effort, on August 30. The rapper-turned-fashion mogul premiered tracks from the album at a fashion show in June. Earlier this year, Rocky was caught in the crossfire of the Kendrick Lamar and Drake battle thanks to his own longstanding issues with Drake. He will look to dispel any notions that his music is “mid” when his next full-length work arrives late next month.
