Kenny Mason And Baby Drill’s ‘Easy Dub’ Visualizer Puts A Gritty Spin On Beloved Video Game Series ‘The Sims’

If Young Thug and YSL’s RICO case has taught hip-hop heads anything, it’s that rap lyrics are under attack. While this isn’t new, now rappers could end up behind bars for their exaggerated accounts on wax (pending Rap Act be damned). Younger acts are taking notice. Although Kenny Mason’s tracks won’t change, his visuals certainly will.

For his song “Easy Dub,” which features Baby Drill from Mason’s latest album, 9, he took a few creative liberties with its official visualizer. Teaming up with director Michael Janey and VFX artist Liam Archibald, Mason puts a gritty spin on the beloved video game series The Sims.

As Mason raps: “N****s is hatin’, that’s part of the growth / Ain’t no complainin’, that’s part of the oath / No, we don’t know where your pack went / Ain’t no arrangement as far as I know / We ain’t gon’ play with this sh*t / I got the power to stay in this b*tch / I got a powerful K in the whip,” his animated mascot carries out the goon-like behaviors outlined in the bars.

The visualizer follows the fictional avatars of Mason and Drill on their wild ridged night. Well, that’s one way to circumvent YouTube’s community guidelines.

Latto Said She Will Continue To Work With Up-And-Coming Rappers, Reminding Fans That She Was Also Once An ‘Unknown Artist’

Latto is gearing up for her next era. Earlier this year, the ATL rapper teased a new album arriving in 2024.

In recent years, the “Big Energy” hitmaker has become a household name. Because of this, some fans are asking that she work with other top-tier rappers, as opposed to up-and-comers. Earlier this year, Latto dropped the well-received singles “Issa Party” with BabyDrill and “The Grinch Freestyle” with Luh Tyler. Though the songs have received much acclaim, they have left stans divided.

“@latto girl we love you but you need to stop doing collabs with these unknown artists enough is enough,” said one Twitter user, in response to a preview of an upcoming collaboration with Atlanta rapper Anycia, “as fans we want to see you win and this will get you nowhere and a latto feature is losing its value. no more babydrills, luh tylers and whoever this is next era please.”

Latto quickly shut this notion down, hammering home that she seeks quality in her collaborations, not necessarily levels of fame. She came to Anycia’s defense and reminded everyone that she was once an up-and-comer too.

“Y’all be getting besides y’all self..Shawty from the south side & she hard af Idc bout allat,” said Latto. “I was an ‘unknown artist’ before and mfs acted too big for me. Stream when we drop.”

Needless to say, Latto is here to uplift a new generation of rappers.

NBA YoungBoy And Baby Drill Celebrate Lil Rye Getting Jumped In Atlanta

Some notable rap figures seemed pretty happy about Lil Rye claiming he’d been jumped in Atlanta. After the Alabama rapper claimed a group jumped him at a mall over his oversized pendant, NBA YoungBoy and Baby Drill both chimed in on the incident. “B-tch got stripped out of his clothes like a h-e. Don’t entertain him no more,” YB said in the comments of Rye’s video. Meanwhile, Drill reposted the video with laughing emojis before adding “N-ggas coming to the city thinking sh-t sweet. Tell em tap in” in a separate post.

Furthermore, YoungBoy and Rye have been beefing for about a month now after YB called Rye a rookie. Rye then said he was going to “take a trip to Utah” which was widely taken as a shot at YB. In response, YB dropped a freestyle called “Fan of Me” last week, which was widely seen as a response to Rye. However, Rye is yet to respond to YB and Drill dunking on him for the incident in Atlanta.

However, YB is widely seen as a well-loved figure in the rap scene. He recently received high praise from Suge Knight. “But you still got people still in the game doing well. And they deserve their cigars. you know? It’s just like… NBA YoungBoy. Man, I like that lil’ young motherf-cker. He deserves his cigar. He talk sh-t, he about that life. You know, he march to his own motherf-cking beat, you know?” Suge said in a recent podcast episode.

Despite this, not everybody loves YB. At the start of last month, YB appeared to respond to getting dissed by Drake on For All The Dogs. “Try again bi-tch a– n-gga. And stop sucking that boy d-ck he know I’m gone cutthroat the fuck out. Record my d-ck n-gga, you a h-e,” YB wrote on Instagram in the hours after Drake dropped “8AM in Charlotte”.

Who Is Baby Drill? Here’s What To Know About The ‘Slight Dub’ Rapper

If this past Friday’s release of Latto’s new single “Issa Party” was your first time being exposed to Baby Drill, you might just be wondering who the young Atlanta rapper is and how he’s connected to the former Uproxx cover star. Don’t worry; we’ve got you covered. Here’s what you need to know about Baby Drill.

At just 22 years old, Baby Drill — whose real name is DelQuristo Wilson according to independent Atlanta courtroom reporter George Chidi — has already had a full life. Baby Drill had been accused last year of murder and violations of Georgia’s controversial RICO law, which has recently come under scrutiny for its broad application in the case against Young Thug and YSL. Before that, though, he told Revolt he was sent to boot camp at 15 after catching an armed robbery charge, among others, and pursued a welding certification at Georgia Tech.

However, music and the streets kept calling, and apparently, he’s proven receptive to both (allegedly). Encouraged by fellow rappers and early successes in collaborating with established names such as 21 Savage, G Herbo, and Young Nudy, he’s been pursuing rap with a greater fervor than ever. Now, he’s apparently signed — or at least affiliated — with PDE, Young Nudy’s label (and the accused gang, for which he received those charges last year, since dropped). His connection with Young Nudy is likely the source of his working with Latto; during her Uproxx photo shoot, she insisted that Nudy is currently her favorite rapper from her hometown. The duo has worked together multiple times in Baby Drill’s short time in the business, including on his second mixtape Drill Season.

The appeal in Drill’s music — which is inspired by the migratory mini-genre from which he takes his name — is in its descriptive, unfiltered accounts of street life in Atlanta. Those accounts are also why he’s found himself in hot water with the authorities, and hopefully, he can find the balance between authenticity and offering up evidence. If he can, he could have a long career ahead of him and not a long prison sentence.

Waka Flocka Flame Flattered By Latto Interpolating His Lyrics

Over the weekend, Latto released her new song “ISSA PARTY.” Unsurprisingly, the track is a party anthem that sees her teaming up with Georgia rapper BabyDrill. The song deploys a bit of interpolation, borrowing some lyrics and refrains from Waka Flocka Flame’s song “It’s A Party.” Some fans online immediately called her out, thinking that it went beyond just reference into straight-up stealing. “if i’m waka flocka my lawsuit was filed yesterday” one tweet responding to the original video read.

Flocka apparently caught the tweet and wanted to clear the air about his thoughts on the song. “flattery at this highest…. never understood why rob these youngsters for showing us respect plus Lotto from Clayton County.” he responded. His answer is pretty definitive, cosigning both Latto as an artist and the song itself. That’s no surprise given that the two have been spotted hanging out before. Just over the weekend, they were hanging out together enjoying themselves at a strip club. Check out Flocka’s tweet below.

Waka Flocka Flame Loves The Interpolation From Latto

Latto’s new song is off to a solid start. The track has already racked up over 550k streams on Spotify with another almost 400k views of the music video on YouTube. She already has a pair of hits under her belt this year, the first one coming alongside Cardi B. They teamed up for “Put It On Da Floor Again” which debuted at number 13 on the Hot 100 and is sticking around at the very last song on last week’s charts.

Her second hit of the year skyrocketed to the very top spot on the charts. “Seven” saw Latto teaming up with K-Pop star Jung Kook and their song debuted at the number one spot in its first week. The song remains on the chart sitting at number 53 in last week’s countdown. What do you think of Waka Flocka Flame’s response to Latto interpolating his lyrics in her new song? Latto And Baby Drill Remind Their Opps Who’s Running Atlanta On Their New Song ‘Issa Party’

Latto isn’t the one to play around with. On her new single, “Issa Party,” our cover star fires some warning shots at people who’ve been trying to throw dirt on her name.

Latto puts her haters and naysayers on notice, warning them that they can look forward to a surprise from her if they don’t stop trying to play her.

“B*tch, I’m red, not green, lil’ ho, stop playin’ with me / I hate borin’ b*tches, they be throwin’ off my energy,” she raps on the song’s opening verse.

Fellow Georgia rapper Baby Drill pops in, warning that he’s about that action, both on and off of the internet.

“Drill just beat another body, take a shot, let’s celebrate / Twitter beef, don’t do the back and forth, pull up shootin’ for days,” he raps.

On the song’s chorus, the two interpolate Waka Flocka Flame’s hit song, “Grove St. Party.”

Latto and Baby Drill have been teasing the fiery collaboration over the course of the past week. The song’s accompanying video is set to premiere in the near future, and ahead of the video, Latto teased the clip by transforming the famed Atlanta strip club Magic City into Latto City.

In the meantime, you can listen to “Issa Party” above.

Why Did Latto Change Magic City’s Name To Latto City?

Why has Latto temporarily changed the name of famed Atlanta strip club Magic City? The short answer is, because Latto does what she wants, as we learned when Latto served as Uproxx‘s December 2021 cover star. The literal answer has to do with “Issa Party,” Latto’s forthcoming single with Baby Drill.

On Tuesday night, September 26, Latto began promoting “Latto City,” the aforementioned temporary rebranded name of Magic City, on her Instagram Story. It will be the site of her and Baby Drill’s “Issa Party” release party on Thursday, September 28.

Latto initially dropped an Easter egg for “Issa Party” on Instagram Live two weeks ago (as captured by the @LattosDestiny fan account), and she confirmed the single on Tuesday. “I got shots for all the opps issa holiday!” she wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter) alongside various photos of her in a bikini and seductively licking a birthday cake.

Latto has since posted an Instagram carousel featuring a photo with Baby Drill and more promotional material for “Issa Party” and her Magic City takeover. Baby Drill has also posted about the upcoming single.

Earlier this month, Latto and Sexyy Red joined forces to remix Young Nudy’s “Peaches & Eggplants.” Additionally, “Seven,” Latto’s July collaboration with BTS’ Jung Kook, became her first-career No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Latto And Baby Drill Are Ready To Turn Up On Their Upcoming Single, ‘Issa Party’

Fresh off the success of her “http://” target=”_blank” title=””>Put It On Da Floor Again” remix with Cardi B, former Uproxx cover artist Latto has announced her next single. “Issa Party” is due this Friday, September 29 and features fellow Georgia native Baby Drill. Latto shared the celebratory single art which involves a collage of Polaroid photos of Latto surrounded by party favors. She’s sampling a bit of birthday cake while wearing a pair of party hats — they’re not on her head, though — and in the caption, she quotes, “I got shots for all the opps issa holiday!”

It’s a big look for Baby Drill, who is affiliated with Young Nudy’s PDE imprint and recently released the single “Slight Dub” with Nudy and 21 Savage. The relatively new artist is also fresh off the release of his third mixtape, MadMan, which he dropped in June — a little over six months after his last project Drill Season, which featured his first collaboration with Latto, “Freak.”

Latto calls herself “the biggest” but lately, she’s been bigger than ever as a result of some strategic collaborations. In addition to Cardi, she also worked with K-pop sensation Jung Kook on his single “Seven,” resulting in her first-ever No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. With her profile higher than ever, it’s nice to see that she’s sharing the wealth.

“Issa Party” drops on 9/29.
