Megan Thee Stallion’s Morning-After Video Explains Just What Happened With Justin Timberlake At The 2023 MTV VMAs

For a minute, it looked like there was some beef going down at last night’s (September 12) 2023 MTV VMAs (aside from Selena Gomez and Chris Brown). A video of a backstage interaction between Megan Thee Stallion and Justin Timberlake showed Meg pointing her finger and wagging it at Timberlake while she sported a seemingly unhappy facial expression.

It appears things weren’t as they seemed, though. Later, reports surfaced that Timberlake said to Megan, “It’s so nice to meet you,” to which the rapper responded, “No no, this don’t count, this don’t count, we gotta meet proper.”

A video that Meg shared on TikTok this morning seems to further prove that everything is good between Meg and JT, and that the supposed beef between them was just a big misunderstanding. The video — set to Do As Infinity’s “Fukai Mori,” which was previously used as an ending theme for the Inuyasha anime series — shows Meg and Timberlake hanging out backstage, smiling and laughing as they enjoy a friendly conversation.

Meg also included what appears to be an explanation for the video that sparked feud rumors, writing in her post’s caption, “I just talk with my hands lol [raised hand emoji] see ya next time @Justin Timberlake.”

What Happened Between Megan Thee Stallion And Justin Timberlake At The 2023 VMAs?

The 2023 VMAs have already had a fair degree of potential controversy just an hour into the show. During Olivia Rodrigo’s performance, a burning palm tree had fans worried that it wasn’t a planned part of the set, then, just before Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion hit the stage to perform “Bongos,” Meg appeared to exchange words with Justin Timberlake as NSYNC returned backstage after presenting an award to Taylor Swift.

Fans observing the moment on Twitter appeared to be divided about the interpretation. Meg, who was getting last-minute touch-ups from her hairstylist, looked agitated by something Timberlake may have said as he passed. While he was smiling, she pointed at him and gave a forceful response. But to some fans, it looked like her end of the conversation was simply her repeating “that doesn’t count,” which they interpreted as a possible response to the bait-and-switch of NYSNC’s rumored “reunion” — she certainly wouldn’t be alone in expecting them to play a song. Even Swift wondered, “You guys are gonna do something, right?”

Of course, without the audio, all this is speculation, but I’m inclined to believe the latter explanation. Meg is certainly in the demographic that grew up on NSYNC’s music, so she’d be justified (heh) in being just a little annoyed by the letdown… but hey, their “reunion” tonight seems like the perfect setup for their eventual song from the upcoming Trolls movie, Band Together, which plays off the group’s mid-aughties breakup. If the speculation gets too out of hand, I’m sure they’ll all have plenty of time to dispel the rumors on the press tour for the movie.

Following that is our final weekend pick. It comes from Queen Naija, who recruited NBA YoungBoy to join her on “No Fake Love.”

Timbaland, Justin Timberlake, and Nelly Furtado Reunite for New Single “Keep Going Up”

Timbaland, Justin Timberlake, and Nelly Furtado Reunite for New Single "Keep Going Up"

In a musical reunion that’s been long-awaited, legendary producer Timbaland is back with a bang on his latest single, “Keep Going Up,” featuring the dynamic talents of Nelly Furtado and Justin Timberlake. This track not only marks Timbaland’s triumphant return but also serves as his debut as an artist under the partnership between his Mosley Music Group and Def Jam Recordings.

Fans will remember this iconic trio from their 2007 hit, “Give It To Me,” which skyrocketed to #1 on the Billboard 200 and has since amassed nearly a billion streams. The track was a pivotal part of Timbaland’s platinum-certified full-length album, Shock Value, which dominated the Top 5 of the Billboard 200.

“Keep Going Up” showcases Timbaland’s signature sound, with a head-nodding drum groove and a thick bassline laying the foundation for dynamic verses by Nelly Furtado. Justin Timberlake adds his hypnotic high-register vocals, weaving seamlessly into the rich layers of production.

The origins of this musical gem trace back to Timbaland’s Beatclub, a thriving music creator platform. Collaborating with Beatclub members Last Trip to the Moon, Timbaland found his inspiration. After a session with production team members Brandon Stewart and Brandon Cordoba, who created the beat, Timbaland was ignited with creative energy. With his signature production style, he brought together Timberlake and Furtado as featured vocalists.

You can hear the new single below.

Timbaland, Nelly Furtado, And Justin Timberlake ‘Keep Going Up’ On Their Magical Reunion

Timbaland, Justin Timberlake, and Nelly Furtado have teamed up in a reunion for the ages. On their new collaboration, “Keep Going Up,” the trio maintains the undeniable chemistry which kept a hold on us through the mid-aughts. In 2006, Tim produced the bulk of Furtado’s Loose album and Timberlake’s FutureSex / LoveSounds album. The following year, the three collaborated on a song called “Give It To Me.” With their latest, the collaborators and longtime friends pick up right where they left off — only this time, they’re happier and better than ever.

Over the course of “Keep Going Up,” Tim delivers on fresh sounds and ad-libs, while Furtado, who has been away from the musical spotlight for a while, lets us know what she’s been up to.

“I’ve been working on my gains lately / I’ve been loving myself, from the daily / Had to cut some people off, the were draining,” sings Furtado on her verse.

Timberlake then drops in, noting his happiness and overall reinvigorated mood.

“I’ve been on new energy, it’s contagious / I kept tryna hide it, but can’t contain it / This life keeps going up and I can’t explain it,” he sings on his verse.

According to a press statement accompanied by the song’s release, the song precedes a new EP from Timbaland, which will drop later this year.

What We Know About “Reptile” Starring Justin Timberlake & Benicio Del Toro

From the trailer of the upcoming movie Reptile, viewers are in for a thrilling watch. Over time, Netflix has continued to create original offerings. This is the case for Reptile, which is already garnering major buzz. The gritty crime thriller has cast some renowned names in its lineup. The phenomenal Benicio Del Toro will front the movie, while none other than Justin Timberlake will be in a supporting role. The story was written by Benjamin Brewer, Grant Singer, and Del Toro.

A recipient of multiple awards, Del Toro is best known for his roles in The Usual Suspects, Basquiat, Sin City, and more. Although widely known for his music, the Grammy-winning musician Timberlake is also a formidable actor in his own right. The Reptile trailer highlights a chilling storyline of a hardened detective who attempts to uncover the truth of a gruesome murder. The movie is set to premiere this September.

Background

Soon after Netflix acquired the rights to the story from Black Label Media, production on the feature-length began. Grant Taylor Singer, predominantly known as a music video director, is set to make his directorial debut in the film. Singer has previously worked with household-name musicians, including Ariana Grande, Lorde, The Weeknd, and Travis Scott. Among the star-studded cast, as seen in the Reptile trailer, Alicia Silverstone is also set to appear. She and Del Toro previously starred in the 1997 crime romance film Excess Baggage. That film also features other acclaimed actors like Michael Pitt, Sky Ferreira, Ayo Essandoh, and Dominick Lombardozzi, among others.

The Reptile Trailer

According to the Reptile trailer, the crime-thriller’s storyline focuses on a detective set on a trail after an unknown killer. The murder of an estate agent is the driving force of the movie. Also, her murder suspect list is somewhat lengthy, but four people take top priority. Netflix released the trailer on the 21st of August.

Elsewhere, Del Toro expressed that he was drawn to the movie’s unpredictability. In a conversation with Netflix, he shared: “There were a couple of what I like to call ‘Oh, sh*t’ moments that also compelled me to get involved.” This also explains Del Toro’s involvement as one of the movie’s writers. Timberlake, also speaking with Netflix, added, “I liked the idea of playing a character that has to constantly react to the unpredictability of what’s thrown in his direction.”

Release Date

The grim detective movie is set to premiere at the 48th annual Toronto International Film Festival on the 8th of September. Subsequently, the crime thriller would be available for streaming exclusively on Netflix from the 6th of October. Judging by the Reptile trailer, the movie is set on pulling and nudging its viewers psychologically with its highly anticipated plot twists. With Del Toro as a co-writer, one can imagine a film possibly worthy of accolades and acclaim. Above all, the all-round collaboration and star-studded cast looks to be one that will make lasting impressions this fall.

“It’s been a long time since I haven’t been excited by a song release!!!” one person replied. “Kids these days don’t know how ICONIC this is,” another fan commented. Even industry heavyweights like Swizz Beatz — an iconic producer himself — jumped in the comments to show his appreciation. “Let’s goioo King,” he wrote. It’s unclear if they plan on releasing more tracks this year, so stay tuned with HNHH for more updates. In an April interview with Variety, Timbaland opened up about new music and his long-awaited album with Justin Timberlake. This would be the pair’s first project since 2006’s FutureSex/LoveSounds.

“We just finished up, and everything sounds great. Now it’s really on him how and when he envisions it to come out, but it’s done, and it’s coming,” he told the publication. The producer says the album embodies “fun.” He added, “Music is a young sport — of course, we’ve both seen a lot of life, but you have to bring out the 13-year-old kid again, you know?” Timbaland also spoke about working on Missy Elliott’s new album. I know how Missy works: It’s got to be new and fun — or maybe not so much new as kind of underground, and everything is upbeat.”
