Ari Lennox Shades Joe Budden Following J Cole Apology: Why Do The Singer & Podcast Host Have Beef?

Joe Budden has built a media career off of offending rappers, media personalities, and even other podcasters on his hit show The Joe Budden Podcast. This week, Ari Lennox got into it with the 43-year-old podcaster, after Joe Budden mentioned her in his discussion regarding the Big 3 beef. Lennox, who is signed to J. Cole’s Dreamville record label, did not take kindly to Budden’s comments and took to social media to fiercely clap back. This is not the first time this year that Ari Lennox and Joe Budden have engaged in a back-and-forth, though some fans wonder how deep this multi-platformed feud will go. Let’s delve into the statements made by both parties and trace the origins of the conflict.

The Feud Started Back In 2022

Ari Lennox seemingly first took issue with Joe Budden’s comments after a 2022 episode of Budden’s podcast, wherein the Mood Muzik rapper sided with radio host MacG in a disagreement with Lennox. It all began when Ari appeared on MacG’s Podcast and Chill, when the South African media figure asked Lennox if anyone was currently “f***ing [her] good,” a reference to her 2019 track “Pop.” On “Pop,” Lennox croons, “If you really love me, I’ll f*** you good/ F*** you good, f*** you good/ Treat you how you should.

Ari appeared visibly bothered by this question, which she considered invasive. Shortly thereafter, she took to Twitter to announce her decision to cease all interviews. Joe Budden made fun of Lennox on his show following the moment, arguing, “if I say it in a song, it’s in the world. It’s on board to be discussed from people… Once it’s documented, it lives. It exists. That was something I used to battle with as an introspective artist.” Ari Lennox didn’t publicly respond to Joe Budden’s comments at the time, though fans were quick to take to social media in her defense.

The Pair Exchanged Words At The Start Of 2024

Ari Lennox and Joe Budden first exchanged words in January, when Ari departed her role as an opener on Rod Wave’s nationwide tour. Lennox explained to her fans via social media that she felt Wave’s crowd was fundamentally different than hers, prompting her to feel unhappy and unwelcome on stage with the Florida rapper. Budden, known for making jokes at the expense of trending artists in the news, ridiculed Lennox for airing her grievances publicly. On-air, he advised her to address these issues with her team behind the scenes rather than discussing them with her fans.

Ari Lennox took exception to these demands, and subsequently took to Instagram Live to respond, stating, “I don’t know what Joe Budden’s obsession is with me, but what I will say is that somebody needs to tell him to stop touching them dogs.” Lennox’s comment calls back to a bizarre September 2020 story that saw Budden come under fire for allegedly touching his pet dogs inappropriately. Ari Lennox continued to say of Joe Budden, “He’s weird, and he’s gross. He has smoke mouth. He’s disgusting! And he’s a failure, like Drake said.”

Budden Offered An Apology… Before Immediately Calling Her “Nuts”

In a January 23 episode of The Joe Budden Podcast, Joe responded to Ari’s comments with a mild apology, which many viewers found to be insincere. Before the episode even concluded, Budden fired back at the “Waste My Time” vocalist, using misogynist slurs and referring to her as “a bag of f***in’ mixed nuts.” Budden concluded, “This b**** is all the nuts combined and I think she’s done a great job of proving the exact point that I was trying to make in the last broadcast, and we shower her with love.” To Joe Budden’s credit, he and his cohosts have highlighted Ari Lennox’s music on numerous occasions before this spat, though that obviously doesn’t make his language any more acceptable.

J. Cole’s Latest Headlines Reignite Feud

Things had gone fairly quiet between Ari Lennox and Joe Budden for a few months, prompting many fans to assume the beef had died out, not with a bang, but with a whimper. That is until J. Cole shocked the world by apologizing to Kendrick Lamar for dissing him on the record “7 Minute Drill.” Joe Budden and his cohosts subsequently reacted to the apology like many other pundits, by clowning J. Cole and stripping him of his title as one of the Big 3 rappers.

During episode 715 of The Joe Budden Podcast, which aired on April 10, Budden stated, “I don’t want to hear no more about that record. It sounded like he didn’t mean it. His voice was trembling like he didn’t mean it. His choice of words as one of the greatest lyricists says he didn’t mean it.” The former Slaughterhouse member continued to drag Ari Lennox back into the discussion, subsequently stating, “I don’t want to hear a f***ing peep out of Earthstone Twitter … Cole is on that — Y’all think I’d be playing with the Ari Lennox, Scottie… They do all that earthy college campus, grass root s***.”

Ari Lennox Fires Back

True to her nature, Ari Lennox fired back at Joe Budden via Instagram stories, sharing a clip of a violent 2013 confrontation between Joe and rapper Consequence. In the clip, Consequence runs up behind Budden and punches him in the back of the head, causing Budden’s glasses to fly off of his face as other parties prevent the pair from throwing hands. Lennox spammed the brief video to her story a whopping 24 times in a row.

Lennox captioned the clip with some fiery words, stating “Knocked your little glasses off and everything. Keep my precious name out of your psychotic, animal-abusing, women-terrorizing, demonic trolling, nicotine-encased mouth. All this meth smoke for a woman but not for any man beating your ass in real life. Bald b*tch!” Clearly, neither party is ready to truly bury the hatchet. Joe Budden is likely to double down on his comments in the forthcoming episode of his show, meaning the feud will only continue to drag on.

Joe Budden Says Kendrick Lamar and Drake are Ready to Go ‘Nuclear’ with Diss Tracks

Joe Budden Reacts to Logic’s “It Was a Good Day” Cover

J. Cole apologized, but Kendrick Lamar and Drake are still set on beef. According to Joe Budden, the two titans are ready to drop “nuclear” diss tracks on each other.

Speaking on The Joe Budden Podcast, Budden revealed that “it’s up.”

“Whatever little rappy s–t you thought was going on, it’s not that and something’s coming,” Budden said. “I think that J. Cole knows that from either Drake, Kendrick or both. And it was time to bow out because we are no longer in the first round.”

He added that he had “good information” that the “nuclear” tracks would end speculation and debate.

“I been saying for a few pods that I’ve seen absolutely nothing from Drake to get me excited enough to think that he will be capable of doing what needs to be done against the likes of a Kendrick Lamar,” Budden said. “I’m here to say there is no longer any need for me to instigate anything. We’re here and apparently he did it and people heard it. I heard it’s bad.”

Meanwhile, “Like That” continues to run it up.

Ari Lennox Fires at ‘Demonic Trolling’ Joe Budden for Mentioning Her in Analysis of J. Cole’s Diss Apology

ari lennox

Ari Lennox and Joe Budden are not fans of each other. The two have long traded insults, with the beef originating with Budden’s criticisms of Lennox’s expression of her experience as an opener on Rod Wave’s tour.

During the most recent episode of The Joe Budden Podcast, Budden criticized J. Cole’s diss retraction but took a jab at Lennox and Scottie Beam.

“Y’all think I be playing with the Ari Lennox, Scottie, they do all that earthy, college campus, grassroots shit,” Budden said. “If you listen to [Cole’s] raps, he just been trying to be the best rapper, the best MC. But you gotta listen to a n-gga’s story. It’s been college life.”

The mere mention of Lennox’s name set her off, as she shared a loop of Joe Budden being punched by Consequence in 2013. She also fired off a scathing response:

“Knocked your little glasses off and everything. Keep my precious name out of your psychotic, animal abusing, woman terrorizing, demonic trolling, nicotine encased mouth. All this meth smoke for a woman but not for any man beating your ass in real life. Bald bitch!”

What Did Ari Lennox Say About Joe Budden?

The latest episode of The Joe Budden Podcast began with a discussion around J. Cole’s Might Delete Later. Co-host Lamar “Ice” Burney was reviewing “Pricey” and noted the song features Gucci Mane and Young Dro. Budden interjected, “And Ari Lennox. Don’t do that to Ari. Ari Lennox is on track one as well. Shout-out to her.” It seemed like a well-intentioned shoutout for a split second before Budden added, “Don’t need her to go grab a football helmet again.”

What Did Ari Lennox Say About Joe Budden?

It would appear Lennox did not take kindly to her name coming out of Budden’s mouth. On her Instagram Story, Lennox posted a video of Consequence punching Budden backstage at a Love And Hip-Hop: New York reunion taping in 2013. After 24 Instagram Story posts of the same video, Lennox wrote, “Knocked your little glasses off and everything. Keep my precious name out of your psychotic, animal-abusing, women-terrorizing, demonic trolling, nicotine-encased mouth. All this meth smoke for a woman but not for any man beating your ass in real life. Bald b*tch!”

Of course, this is not just about one comment made this week. During the January 11 episode of Budden’s podcast, Budden criticized Lennox for expressing that she “was never comfortable” while opening on Rod Wave’s Nostalgia Tour last year.

Budden dismissed Lennox’s feelings — emphasizing that “it’s a blessing” to be able to tour as a musician and suggesting that Lennox should have told her team that she didn’t want to open for Rod Wave. For reference, Budden’s “football helmet” comment this week was a callback to mocking Lennox’s response to having a bottle thrown at her during one of her Nostalgia Tour sets.

She went out there the next day with a football helmet on,” Budden said in January. “It’s only funny if it’s funny. […] I got a problem with this ‘woe is me’ era. I do. From guys, from girls.”

Lennox also clapped back in January. “Y’all, I don’t know what Joe Budden’s obsession is with me, but what I will say is that somebody needs to tell him to stop touching them dogs,” she said on an Instagram Live, as captured here. “I don’t understand why he’s so obsessed. Like, why are you so obsessed?” Budden apologized (sort of).

Ari Lennox Trolls Joe Budden With Repeated Videos Of Consequence Punching Him

Ari Lennox is someone who is not afraid to voice their opinion on something. This is especially true as it pertains to people she doesn’t like. As it turns out, one of those people is none other than Joe Budden. Although Budden has defended Lennox at times on his show, the R&B songstress simply does not like him. A few months ago, she even launched a pretty scathing rant in his direction. Subsequently, he responded in a not-so-kind fashion, calling her a “bag of mixed nuts.”

It’s been an interesting time for Lennox, who was not invited to perform at Dreamville despite being on the label. Furthermore, she got to watch her label boss give an apology to Kendrick Lamar, and subsequently get shamed for it. This ties back to Joe Budden as Budden went on his podcast today and spoke on Cole’s apology. He had a nuanced view of it, however, it was an opinion that would definitely upset a Cole fan. As some noticed, Lennox seemed to be annoyed with Budden’s comments, as her Instagram story reflects this.

Ari Lennox Does Not Like Joe One Bit

In the video above, you can see that Lennox’s entire Instagram story is just the same video from the Love & Hip-Hop Reunion special in which Consequence punched Budden in the back of the head. This is an iconic moment that always ends with Joe saying “that’s what I like” with a maniacal grin on his face. Regardless, it is clear that Lennox is getting some amusement out of Budden’s pain. Now, it will be interesting to see if Budden even responds.

Joe Budden & Skillz Reignite Feud Over J Cole’s Beef With Kendrick Lamar

J. Cole’s apology to Kendrick Lamar over the “7 Minute Drill” response to the “Like That” verse is the bravest thing he could’ve done… and people aren’t too happy with it. While the depth of that conversation is a story for another time, the prevailing sentiment among purist hip-hop fans of old is that Cole cowered out, and now, the “streets need a body.” That’s exactly what Joe Budden recently tweeted (before the actual apology), alluding to how we’re still waiting on Drake’s response to Kendrick and that folks want to see a tough battle. But then, one of Budden’s old opponents, rapper Skillz, chimed in and provoked another spat between them, which has previously gone down circa 2021 over their respective rapping skills.

“Wild take coming from a rapper who never caught one,” Skillz tweeted back at Joe Budden. “Now Skillz…… there is NO LIVING BREATHING person that has you as a better MC than me,” Budden hit back. “& YOU can’t career shame a mosquito with a mixtape. And the one time a year ppl wanted to hear from you got stolen from you. Go be with your family.” “Now Joseph? I have never been punched in the face for any sub par bars either,” Skillz retorted. “You have taken more RAP/LIFE L’s than any rapper from Jersey. Go be Wendy Williams bro. And if YOU WERE SUCH AN AMAZING RAPPER in your PRIME? Why you become a podcaster?!? You cant ever talk bars with me.” This is ironic considering his Hip Hop Confessions podcast, something that Budden’s co-host Ice brought up against him.

Skillz Takes Shots At Joe Budden Over J. Cole’s Kendrick Lamar Apology

“ICE? Find me one ep where Im talkin about current gossip…” Skillz responded to Ice. “i talk hip hop on my pod…thats it. You think I care about what sexxy redd wore last week??” “Bro I’m just saying. You said son became a podcaster…as a podcaster,” Joe Budden’s co-host clapped back. “And if we keeping it a buck, ya description says u have folks come on to confess their secrets…know who does that? Gossip shows lol.” “I feel u ice respectfully but ….you keep bypassing the word HIP HOP tho,” Skillz added. “thats what my ish is about. Not what yall do.”

Budden Fires Back, Ice Chimes In

“I’m really not,” Ice clarified. “Go back and look at what I initially replied to. The words ‘hip-hop’ were nowhere in that tweet. You moved the goalpost afterwards.” Skillz even admitted this by replying with, “Touche I did,” and through salute and handshake emojis, it seems like this either completely resolved or they just got bored. As for Joe Budden, though, no such resolution was offered to Skillz. For more news and the latest updates on all this rap beef and these players, stay logged into HNHH.

Joe Budden Trashed J. Cole’s ‘7 Minute Drill’ Diss Response To Kendrick Lamar: ‘This Narcoleptic-Sounding Sh*t’

For weeks, Drake and J. Cole fans waited for their response to Kendrick Lamar. Before Dreamville Fest 2024 kicked off, Cole served up his formal retort with the song “7 Minute Drill.”

However, many don’t believe it compares to Lamar’s brutal guest verse on Metro Boomin and Future’s track “Like That.” Joe Budden so happens to be one of those people. Today (April 7), in the latest episode of the mogul’s namesake podcast, he shared his unfiltered thoughts.

“This is not ok,” he yelled. “Cole, call Royce [Da’ 5’9″]. Call a killer. You’re just too nice. It’s the tone…That’s my issue with this narcoleptic-sounding sh*t. That is my issue. It sounds like if I was actively trying to cop fentanyl…[7 Minute Drill] is what I would put on.”

When asked what he wanted from Cole, Budden replied: “I want him to sound alive.”

But he did praise the beat selected for the track. “The first half [of the track] is giving me Latto,” he said. “The first half sounds like he was having a lot of fun on that tour with Drake. That first half sounds like a hit if he sounded alive, and then Drake came on right after.”

Joe Budden Blasts J Cole For Kendrick Lamar Diss Response: “Call A Killer!”

Reactions to “7 Minute Drill,” J Cole’s clapback at Kendrick Lamar’s diss against him, have been pretty split among the hip-hop community. Everyone seems to be celebrating the back-and-forth as competitive spirit, but the jury’s still out on whether it was actually an appropriate, cutting, or worthwhile response. Joe Budden and the rest of the members of his podcast said during their latest episode that the Dreamville boss did not strike gold with this diss track as he likely wanted to. While there were a few different points here, the most salient and reoccurring one in their discussion was that Cole just doesn’t have the conviction or energy to back up this aggression.

“The tone,” Joe Budden remarked as to what his main problem with the verse was, or at least the point he and his cohosts discussed the most. “This is my issue with this f**&ing narcoleptic sounding s**t. This sounds like… if I was actively looking to cop fentanyl this is what I would put on. I want to hear him sound alive.” Regardless of this criticism, it seems like the surprise mixtape that J. Cole put “7 Minute Drill” on will still perform quite well.

The Joe Budden Podcast Discusses J Cole’s “7 Minute Drill”: Watch

Of course, commercial success doesn’t really get at the heart of most rap beef, especially between two lyricists who champion artistry and skill like J. Cole and Kendrick Lamar do. But this moment is easily one of the biggest in rap of 2024 so far, and no discussion on quality can take that away. Now all that’s left to prove is whether or not “The Big Three” will fully rise to the competitive occasion or just see this as a big moment for some quick engagement. With many others in the hip-hop world responding passionately to this confrontation, there’s a lot of pressure on them to perform.

On that note, we still haven’t (un-subliminally) heard from Drake, who arguably caught the brunt of K.Dot’s ire on “Like That” rather than the MC who actually responded. Maybe his hypothetical response will have more fire than what Budden thought Cole had on “7 Minute Drill.” Do you think it’s a worthy comparison point or did the North Carolina spitter satisfy your hunger? Let us know in the comments and keep checking in with HNHH for more on Joe Budden, Kendrick Lamar, and J. Cole.

Joe Budden Supports Nicki Minaj By Taking A Trip To Gag City

Joe Budden is someone who is largely known as a hater on the internet. However, he is also a huge fan of certain artists. Overall, one artist he has always supported is none other than Nicki Minaj. While the two have certainly butted heads over the years, Joe always finds himself supporting her when he can. Ultimately, one of the best ways to support an artist is by going to their shows. Luckily for Budden, Nicki has been on tour as a way to support her latest project, Pink Friday 2. In fact, last night she was in Brooklyn at the Barclays Center.

In the video clip down below, you can see that Joe Budden was at the show, sitting fairly close to the front. Someone was able to capture a video of the podcast host, who seemed to be pretty early to the show. Clearly, he wanted to make sure he got in his seat before things got too hectic. Of course, it should come as no surprise that Nicki was able to sell out this show. She even has two more outings at the Barclays Center, and fans are expected to come out in droves.

Benzino Claims Joe Budden Backed Out Of A Boxing Match After He “Ran His Mouth”

Benzino is synonymous with hip-hop beef. The former publisher of The Source magazine is best known for his long-standing battle with Eminem and Shady Records, and has continued to pick fights with artists ever since. It’s just what he does. Benzino recently hopped on Instagram Live and took aim at another (former) Shady Records signee, Joe Budden. The media mogul claims he was supposed to have a boxing match against Budden, but the latter backed out.

Benzino vs. Budden might sound like a throwback to the aughts, the boxing match was supposed to happen this year. The ex-publisher claimed that he threatened to break Budden’s jaw, and the former rapper told him he’d accept the challenge. “We got in touch with celebrity boxing,” he explained. “I was on the phone with Joe’s manager Ian and they backed out the fight.” The Source mastermind saw the decision as a sign of weakness, and proceeded to trash talk Budden further. “Joe ran his mouth and he backed out the fight,” he added. “He must have been thinking about that straw that he was going to be sipping out of.”

Joe Budden Clowned Benzino For Being “Old”

Budden, who’s best known as an internet personality these days, had plenty to say about Benzino on his self-titled podcast. He asserted that getting in the ring would be a very “bad idea” for Benzino, who is 15 years older. “Old n****s shouldn’t do that,” he noted. “He do too much s**t that old n****s shouldn’t do.” Furthermore, Budden clowned Benzino for getting dissed by Eminem on the recent song “Doomsday, Pt. 2.” Budden and Eminem have had a contentious relationship since the former left Shady Records, but he joked that Benzino’s antics actually has him on Eminem’s side yet again. “Now me and Em on the same side — look what you did,” he said.

All jokes aside, Budden dismissed the match as an attempt to get more attention. He told his podcast listeners that he’s never had an issue with Benzino before, so the notion of him being threatened and then being offered a boxing match was a “horrible” idea. “I ain’t never had a problem with Benzino, but Benzino do make being 50 look corny,” Budden concluded. It looks as though the ex-publisher is going to have to refocus his attention on Eminem, who he also challenged to a celebrity boxing match. Unsurprisingly, the Detroit rapper has not even acknowledged the challenge.
