The so-called “Drake Curse” may have a less consistent hit-to-miss ratio than its namesake, but when it does hit, it hits HARD. This is especially when the target is Drake’s pocketbook, which is a half-million bucks lighter thanks to the big bet he placed on Israel Adesanya’s UFC 293 match against Sean Strickland. Drake shared his bet — courtesy, as always, of Stak, with which the rapper signed a $100 million/year endorsement deal in 2022 — on Instagram, boasting the potential $920k payout it would have netted with a win.

Unfortunately for both Drake and Adesanya, the Kiwi kickboxer was upset by Strickland on a 49-46 judges’ decision. Adesanya’s MMA record now stands at 24-3, delivering just his second loss by judges’ decision. He also lost the UFC Middleweight Championship belt.

Meanwhile, the Drake Curse has a more inconsistent record; in June, Drake won over $2 million backing the Denver Nuggets in the NBA Finals after losing around $350,000 betting on the University of Connecticut in the NCAA National Tournament. Meanwhile, his bet on Argentina in the 2022 FIFA World Cup paid out $2,750,000 on a million-dollar bet. You know what they say: You win some, you lose some. Drake’s seen things play out both ways in his betting career, but this writer would be willing to bet that things turn around for both him and Adesanya before too long.

There’s certainly no love lost between Israel Adesanya and Sean Strickland. The two men are due to face off in the headline fight of UFC 293 on September 10, with Adesanya seeking to defend his middleweight belt. Of course, the pair have traded barbs back and forth in the run-up to the bout. However, it appears that Adesanya is tired of Strickland running his mouth.

“I do wanna shut him up and I’m gonna shut him up. I’m gonna break his jaw if he keeps talkin’ to me while he’s in there, trust. When you’re talkin’, you never know when a shot’s coming, the jab can hit you while your mouth open and send your jaw to the back of your head,” Adesanya told TMZ. “[Sean] should just thank me. He got his passport, he got the fight, he gets to travel out of the country for the first time, actually see the world instead of being a fucking hillbilly and yeah, he should thank me. Should really appreciate the fact that I got him the opportunity and he’s gonna get paid, he can buy his boat and then he can fuck off and make other opportunities,” he continued.

Adesanya Headlines UFC’s Return To Australia

UFC 293 is the first event to be held in Australia since 2017. For Adesanya, it will be his seventh title defense fight, but his first since reclaiming the belt at UFC 287. Stylebender briefly lost the belt to Alex Periera at UFC 281 in 2022 but won it back in the rematch in April of this year. However, Strickland wasn’t the first choice for this fight. Adesanya was meant to fight Dricus du Plessis, the South African fighter that he has been publicly beefing with for most of this year. However, with du Plessis injured, the fifth-ranked Strickland was subbed in.

“Do I think he deserves it? I think he’s been in there long enough to earn it. To step in there with me, my ego says no. My ego says we’re levels above. He knows it. I know but he knows he still has a chance of winning this fight. I just have to make sure it’s the minimalist chance ever. That’s my job. “I know he’s dangerous because a man with everything to gain and nothing to lose is a fucking dangerous man but I have a habit of making dangerous men look easy,” Adesanya said when asked if Strickland deserved the title shot.

UFC President Dana White is overseeing the cage match between the Founder of SpaceX/Twitter owner and the CEO/Founder of Meta (Facebook, Instagram, etc.). Now, fighting superstars are getting into the mix, offering to help the two amateur fighters get into solid shape. While controversial figure Andrew Tate has offered to train Elon Musk and Jon “Bones” Jones offered his training services to Mark Zuckerberg, Mark has taken a different training route.

Zuck has been seen training with UFC Middleweight Champion Israel Adesanya and UFC Featherweight Champion Alexander Volkanovski. The Nigerian-New Zealander and Australian, respectively, are posing with Zuckerberg in a recent photo uploaded to Instagram via RapTV. As of this writing, Volkanovksi is number one in the UFC men’s pound-for-pound rankings, while Adesanya is fifth. The two “trainers” make sense for Mark, who is smaller and lanky in stature. He’ll want to have kickboxing and grappling in his fighting repertoire for when he faces off against Elon.

According to MMAFighting.com, Dana White has a specific date in mind for the octagon rumble, saying it won’t be UFC 300, but it will closely follow. UFC 300, a marquee lineup for the sport, is set to go down in Vegas in early 2024.

While Mark Zuckerberg is spreading out his training partners, Elon Musk has been training with Georges St. Pierre and his world-famous grappling coach, John Danaher. Technically, Musk has a significant size advantage over Zuck, which is probably why Mark is tripling down on his training. As for sanctions for the fight and any hoops to jump through, Dana White isn’t too concerned. He wants this fight to happen, and any challenge will be well worth the billionaire brawl.

The UFC is one of the biggest entities in the world at this point, and even his brother Jake has expressed interest in it. In fact, according to TMZ, Logan Paul teamed up with Israel Adesanya and Alexander Volkanovski for a training session in Puerto Rico. That is where Logan resides right now, and he got some pointers from some legends.

In the video up above, you can actually see that it was quite the gauntlet for Logan Paul. He got to spar with Adesanya, who was quick to put him in a chokehold. Although Paul tried his hardest to get out of it, he simply couldn’t. He eventually tapped out and conceded. However, he did note that he was almost able to get out of the trap. No matter what, it is impressive that Paul would still have the bravery to go out there and get in some reps with someone who is a legend.

At the end of the day, he’s born in Africa, he is African but he does not reside here and that is the fact. That is what makes me and him different.” The comments have fuelled the potential for a title fight between the two men at UFC 293 in September.
