Jennifer Hudson On Common Dating Rumors: “We’ll See”

Jennifer Hudson left things up in the air when she was recently asked about her relationship with Chicago rapper Common. The singer didn’t confirm, nor deny, that the two of them are an item in a recent interview with TMZ. According to her, the pairing could be a dream come true since they’re both from the city. For now, however, she simply says “we’ll see.” When paparazzi complimented Hudson on her relationship with Common, she didn’t correct them. “Thank you,” she simply replied before being asked about a potential collab and their recent reported vacation together.

“I like how you slipped you saw some vacation. Really?” she asked, claiming she’s not sure about “that part.” “I don’t know,” she continued, “It’ll be dope to see two Chicagoans together but I don’t know about that. We’ll see. It could be [awesome].” When asked whether or not she’s willing to address rumors that they’re official, Hudson opted to keep things ambiguous. “Rumors say a lot of things. But he’s a beautiful man. I will give you that. That’s for certain.”

Jennifer Hudson Calls Common “A Beautiful Man”

Rumors of the relationship began to circulate after the Breathe co-stars were spotted getting “cozy and flirty” on a dinner date in Philly last year. A witness claims they saw “lots of cuddling and giggling” from the duo. Hudson later spoke on the dinner in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. “People create their narratives of it, and it’s like, OK, you know, how you feel,” she explained. “We shot a film together, and he played my husband. We gotta eat in between those moments.”

A source also reportedly told RadarOnline in January that things started to heat up between them amid shooting. “Things took a romantic turn while they were filming in Philadelphia over the summer,” they claimed. “When the day’s shoot wrapped, they’d always find their way to each other’s side.” Apparently, the rumored couple “[gets] together whenever their schedules allow.”

Big Boi On OutKast Being Named The Greatest Rap Group Of All Time: “I’ll Take It”

During a recent interview, Big Boi shared his thoughts on Billboard naming OutKast the best rap group of all time. The outlet dropped their ranking at the end of June, putting the duo ahead of fan-favorites like Wu-Tang Clan, NWA, A Tribe Called Quest, and more. The list sparked a bit of a debate, with some social media users feeling as though they shouldn’t be considered a “group” because there are only two members. Regardless, the duo has managed to make countless invaluable contributions to the world of hip hop since their ’90s debut.

In a clip of the interview, Elliott Wilson asks Big Boi whether or not the opinions and rankings even mean anything to him anymore. “It just depends who you ask,” he replies, “I’ll take it.” He continues, insisting that it’s subjective. “Everybody’s got an opinion and it just depends on the person, really,” he says. “They don’t do that on the other side,” Big Boi adds, “like, [who’s] the best, Nirvana or Led Zeppelin.” He continues, noting how hip hop in particular tends to put an emphasis on competition among artists. “Go make some jams and shut the f*ck up,” he says.

Big Boi Says “Go Make Some Jams And Shut The F*ck Up”

Though Big Boi appears to be relatively unfazed about his group’s ranking, the clip managed to reignite the debate on who the greatest rap group of all time is. As expected, Wu-Tang Clan super fans made their voices heard. A good amount of commenters, however, appear to agree with the sentiment that artists shouldn’t be pit against one another. “We’re all great in our own likeness,” one user notes.

Though fans would love the opportunity to catch OutKast live, it looks like it won’t be happening any time soon. Sleepy Brown told TMZ in June that for the time being, Andre 3000 is only focusing on his own projects. “[Andre 3000] is on a-whole-nother journey and he’s, you know, doing something. But me and Big [Boi] are still doing tours and stuff like that. Don’t hold your breath for no OutKast reunion. Don’t do it to yourself. It’s not gon’ happen, folks.

Tobe Nwigwe Says He Fell In Love w/ Hip-Hop Via Warren G’s “Regulate”

Tobe Nwigwe Says He Fell In Love w/ Hip-Hop Via Warren G’s “Regulate”

If you had the chance to watch the new Steph Curry documentary on Apple TV, Underrated, all the way through, then you heard Tobe Nwigwe’s voice come in at the exact perfect time — right before the credits. The Nigerian recording artist recorded the song “Lil Fish, Big Pond” specifically for Steph, one of the greatest basketball players of our generation.

But, of course, greatness takes time. Underrated does an incredible job of showcasing the journey before Steph became the Steph Curry he is today: a two-time Most Valuable Player and a four-time NBA champion with the Golden State Warriors.

And while many may see Tobe Nwigwe as the superstar he is today — making his mark in music and film — many don’t see the grind it took to get him there. For Tobe, “Lil Fish, Big Pond” was a real life testament to his own rise to success, pushing forward a positive message that you can truly do anything you set your mind to in this world — as long as you work hard, stay passionate, and never lose sight of yourself.

The Source spoke with Tobe Nwigwe via Zoom, who had just returned from baecation in Turks and Caicos with his wife, Fats. Read below as we discuss being featured in the Steph Curry documentary when he fell in love with Hip-Hop, his favorite artists, his roots in Houston, acting in Transformers, goals, and more!

Definitely want to touch on “Lil Fish, Big Pond.” What does it mean to have your song placed in the Steph Curry Underrated documentary?

Oh it’s phenomenal. Steph’s story, his journey is an immaculate display of what’s possible, as it relates to achieving greatness. For anybody in the world, no matter if you play basketball or not. The path that he took, and the work ethic, discipline, consistency and stuff that he applied to his sport is amazing to see. It’s an honor to be a part of the story, even if it’s a song to highlight what he did.

How did you get involved in the project?

They hit me up. “Hey, Steph Curry would like to —” I said aw, tell him yes.

So he chose you specifically?

Oh come on, chose me… Yes he did, like a prom date. [laughs]

What was the creative process behind the actual making of the song?

Once they told me what they were wanting me to do, I made the song with Steph’s story in mind. I dug a little deeper, did a little research. Watched the trailer and tried to bring that to life as creatively as I possibly could.

How much did this relate to your own life?

A lot of it. The synergy was very strong, but it was like that in two different ways. It don’t matter if your daddy is Dell Curry and has paved the way, and you feel like the red carpet should be laid out in certain areas. Or your daddy is my daddy, who don’t know nothing about the entertainment industry at all. You gon’ have to earn everything it is that’s yours. Ain’t nobody gon’ give you nothing, especially as it pertains to greatness. You gon’ have to go out and get it, and that’s exactly what Steph did. And that’s what I’m on the path to doing, 100%.

What did it mean to hear your song at the end?

It’s beautiful, I’m not gon’ lie to you. It’s amazing to be a part of greatness, but it’s even better when the person who‘s great is also a great human being. We don’t live in an age where everybody’s great human beings. People just be great at what it is that they do, they don’t necessarily be the best people. But Steph Curry is a phenomenal human being.

Have you guys met in person?

Steph Curry is my friend. That’s my friend. Before we started this project, we was cool. Now? [laughs] That’s my friend.

How did y’all tap in initially?

Just from the project. It was nothing serious, we didn’t really know each other like that. It was like “oh man, I appreciate you doing the project.” But once we locked in and did it, then when we got together to put the visual together, aw okay. Yup, we’re friends.

I know you’re a football player by nature. Do you like basketball as well?

Yeah, I do. I love basketball and football, but I’m putting my kids in soccer. Once I seen what they’re offering Mbappé, I’m like yeah, okay. I’ma need to put all my kids in soccer. I don’t know if you saw, [Kylian] Mbappé got off for $1.1 billion to play soccer for a year. I didn’t know that there was that kind of money in soccer. That’s insane.

Hip-Hop celebrates 50 years this year, what does Hip-Hop mean to you?

Everything. It helped shape how I see the world in totality, outside of my Nigerian roots. Hip-Hop is what gave me the clearest viewpoint and vantage point of how to operate in the world — through art and culture. Dang, it’s my first time saying that. It’s crazy.

Do you remember the moment you fell in love with Hip-Hop?

Warren G, “Regulators.” 100%. “You gotta be handy with the steel, if you know what I mean

Earn your keep!” [raps Warren G]

Top five all time?

[gasps] Alright, let’s see. Biggie. Lauryn Hill. Andre 3000. Nas and Jay Z. Hold on, you did mean rappers right?

It didn’t have to be ,but those are solid.

Well hold on now… Let’s go to the next question before I get lost in the sauce.

Family is a huge part of your life, sometimes Hip-Hop may have a negative connotation. How important is it to have your children around your version of rap?

My version of Hip-Hop is going to be the foundation for my kids, but they’re not limited to that. They still need to be well-rounded and see what is in the world, because that’s the place they got to operate in. We have to give them other doses and experiences with Hip-Hop when it’s time. Right now, they listen to not just me. They listen to clean versions of other stuff, because I’m raising respectable young ladies and young gentlemen. But they gon’ know how to operate in the world, not just walk around and be like…

When it comes to your creativity, where do you draw your inspiration from? Everything from your music videos to the clothing you wear…

My life, my wife. My relationship with God, my children. The homies I grew up with. The musical influences like Biggie, Lauryn Hill, Fela Kuti, Andre 3000, CeeLo Green, Goodie Mob, Fat Pat, Lil Keke. There’s a lot of people in Houston too. Chamllionaire, Paul Wall, Slim Thug, Z-Ro, all these people in Houston I grew up listening to. People wouldn’t necessarily know all the Houston local artists, but that type of stuff really shaped the way that I approach music.

How did you manage to curate your own Houston sound? That’s not necessarily the traditional Houston flow.

Just gleaning from some of the artists that I named, then putting my own original story and flow towards my craft and what influenced me. I love the way Z-Ro sings on some tracks. I love the way that CeeLo approaches everything from a completely unorthodox space. I love the natural Houston flow that Lil Keke has. I’ll grab a little bit of this and that from everybody, pause, and put it together. Put my own spin on it.

Definitely want to touch on The Transformers. First of all, how did you learn how to act?

I’ll be honest with you, I just don’t have any fear like that. Over the course of my life, I’ve literally eliminated fear. I don’t move in fear. Playing football in front of thousands of people for so long and not wanting to get embarrassed, growing up as an athlete really helped me be able to perform in front of people and not feel no type of way. Acting is way different from lining up as a linebacker and having to tackle people in front of thousands of people, and I get ran over and I get physically embarrassed. Saying words, using the gift of gab and charisma is a little less challenging than having to be a linebacker in front of thousands of people.

How’d it feel you feel to be handpicked for that movie?

Absolutely insane. All the stories as it pertains to how certain things have happened, like getting a role in a blockbuster film like Transformers is insane. Because the director asked Paramount to reach out to me directly. I had never met him, we weren’t cool before that. That was absolutely insane.

Being nominated for Grammy, did that spark your acting bug even more on set?

Hell nah. [laughs] Just hearing you say “being nominated for Grammy” sounds insane. It sounds insane, because I’m independent. I’ve been doing this the way in which I feel like I do the entirety of the time that I’ve been doing it, I couldn’t even fully understand or believe that they really nominated me for a Grammy. Yeah, you gotta submit all your stuff. But even when I submitted my stuff, I’m like aha. I don’t think it’s really gon’ happen, they got a lot of people to choose from.

How’d it feel when I made it coming from the SWAT?

it felt incredible. It felt incredible because it’s never happened. It’s really like the “Lil Fish, Big Pond” stuff. I really feel like me being nominated for a Grammy, out of the SWAT, shows people that you can literally come from anywhere and make something happen. It’s never been done for nobody that’s from here? Alright cool. Boom, we here.

Any goals for yourself now?

Raise my children to be world changers like they’re supposed to be, and love my wife until the day we die. Hopefully, we could go out like The Notebook.

Rick Ross Proclaims He Can Release An Album In Two Days

For well over a decade, Maybach Music Group head Rick Ross has had a prolific music catalog. On Spotify, he boasts 10 projects and five deluxe versions, along with countless singles. Furthermore, he has certified classics under his belt such as “Aston Martin Music,” “Hustlin,’” and so many others. So, it came as no surprise during a recent interview, that Ross said he can get out a new album in 48 hours.

This bold claim was made during a recent interview broadcast by Amazon Music through a Twitch live stream. Ross was asked to decide between two of his earliest and most important releases, Rich Forever (2012) and his EP Albert Anastasia (2010). For him, it was an easy choice, stating that Albert Anastasia essentially laid the foundation for who he is as an artist. “That’s when dudes was understanding how I can play with my words and how easy it was.” He continues, “I could go in there and put an album together in 48 hours.”

Self-confidence is nothing new for Ricky Rozay. It is arguably one of the largest reasons why he is so successful in the hip-hop genre. However, this recent statement is just one of a few he has dished out over the past month or so. An example of this is Ross and the host of the “Breakfast Club” DJ Envy, continuing to feud online. Back in May, he took a distasteful shot at Envy’s wife, offering a “one-time opportunity.” Ross went to Instagram Live to promote this “job opening” and let’s just say it was suggestive.

“It’s the Biggest Boss.” He goes on, “I’m providing jobs. DJ Envy-ous, I got a job for your girlfriend. My pickleball paddle polisher! You hear me? Let her know.” While they cleaning the pools…” Ross then swings the paddle back and forth in what is most likely with an inappropriate intention. What do you think about Rick Ross and his brags? Be sure to leave your comments below and for all news surrounding music, follow HNHH for it all.

Fat Joe Reflects On His Feud With 50 Cent: “Funeral Homes Was Making Bids”

During a recent interview, Fat Joe discussed his feud with 50 Cent. The artist says that he was shocked 50 Cent ever had the nerve to diss him, because he was feared at that point in his career. According to him, 50 Cent came at him due to his association with Ja Rule. “He just felt like I was giving him that strength,” he begins. “It was so brilliant because it was the shock and awe effect.”

“Although I worked for everything I got, although I never extorted nobody, although I didn’t bully nobody,” he continued, “I had the persona of New York Suge Knight. Like, y’know, people feared Fat Joe and the Terror Squad in that way, y’know? So for [50 Cent] talking about Fat Joe in the same city … the funeral homes was making bids.”

Fat Joe Says He Was Like A “New York Suge Knight”

The artist continues, describing how due to both of their reputations, the feud couldn’t go “nowhere but violence.” Fat Joe says “thank God” they squashed the beef in light of Chris Lighty’s 2012 death, revealing that he and Fif are “the best of friends” now. “It was a very tense moment,” he explains, “it was almost like a suicide mission.”

Fat Joe goes on to claim that he learned a lot from his feud with 50 Cent, because he was the first person to actually come at him. “I had to adapt,” he reflects, “I had to learn how to not be impulsive.” He then describes the “growing pains” he experienced in learning how to navigate social media. “Social Media,” he explains, “it’s not for real real street guys. We just don’t know how to react on there.” The artist even adds that he thinks his crew coming into contact with 50 Cent at the 2012 BET Awards for a Chris Lighty tribute was a “set-up.” “His trailer was in front of ours,” he reveals, “Like come on, what [do you think is] gonna happen?”

Alicia Keys Reveals Jay-Z Almost Replaced Her On “Empire State Of Mind”

During a recent interview with Mix 94.7, Alicia Keys discussed her hit 2009 collab with Jay-Z, “Empire State Of Mind.” The songstress revealed that she was close to being replaced on the track, due to Jay-Z having difficulty contacting her. According to Keys, her famous part in the song was almost sung by somebody else.

“He had this idea, he wanted to build it out. He wanted to make it the New York energy,” the artist explained. “The crazy part of that story that I just love is that he actually couldn’t get in touch with me because you go through the different channels, management, all these different places.” Jay-Z initially had the song’s original writers, Angela Hunte and Janet Sewell-Ulepic, singing the hook. They suggested that the Roc Nation founder tap Keys for the chorus, and the rest was history.

Jay-Z Thought He Had “To Move On”

He couldn’t really get movement on it. And so at one point, he was like, ‘Alright, I might have to move on, I can’t connect with her. I guess I have to do it with somebody else,’” Keys continued. “Could you imagine if that ended up happening? I think about it all the time.” The iconic song certainly wouldn’t be the same without the stylings of Alicia Keys, and surely fans are glad they were eventually able to connect.

“Empire State Of Mind” went 9X platinum at the end of last month, now selling over 9 million units. It was a major success upon its release, landing at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for five weeks straight. It was the first of Jay-Z’s songs as lead artist to hit No. 1. The song went gold, and platinum within only two months, cementing its place in hip hop history. Apparently, the song has even done so well that the artists worry about creating something on the same level. Last year, Keys told E! News that she feels it “hinders” the collaborators, as they fear the 2009 track can never be topped.

Ice Spice Says She Carries Backup Panties, Discusses Growing Distant From Her Siblings

During a recent installment of Vogue’s “In The Bag,” Ice Spice revealed the daily essentials that she keeps in her pink Chanel handbag. One notable item the Bronx rapper keeps on deck is an extra pair of panties, which she claims are always pink. “The baddies that get it, get it,” she explained, “I always keep a panty because like, you just have to be changing your panties.”

The 23-year-old’s choice in undergarments certainly holds true to the theme of one of her most recent successes, a collaboration with Nicki Minaj for the Barbie soundtrack. The duo dropped “Barbie World” at the end of last month, alongside a Barbie-themed accompanying music video. The song has been a hit with fans so far, even recently getting a streaming boost upon the film’s debut.

Ice Spice On Her Relationship With Her Siblings

The tour of Ice Spice’s bag isn’t the first time she was spotted “showin’ her panty.” Earlier today (July 26), the rapper dropped off a new music video for her track “Deli,” which appears on the newly-released deluxe edition of her Like..? EP. Ice Spice twerks in a corner store in the new music video, reminding fans that she’s “that b*tch.”

In another recent interview, Ice Spice discussed her relationship with her siblings, revealing that it’s been tough to maintain amid her global success. She told Zane Lowe that although she misses her five younger siblings, she struggles to stay connected while traveling for her career. “It’s sad,” she explained, “I can’t be in another country and also be as close to you as I was when we was five.” The heartfelt revelation has garnered the support of fans, who empathize with the young rapper’s struggle to balance it all. She described being grateful that her siblings “even miss [her],” claiming “it’s all love at the end of the day.”

Dr. Dre “Never Liked” N.W.A. Being Labeled Gangsta Rap

Dr. Dre opened up about N.W.A. during a recent appearance on Peacock’s Hart to Heart. The group was one of the most influential rap groups of all time, helping define the genres of rap, hardcore rap, and gangsta rap. The gangsta rap label is one that members like Dre seemingly embraced at the time.

“Just another muthafuckin’ day for Dre, so I’ll begin like this/ No medallions, dreadlocks or Black fists/ It’s just that gangsta glare with gangsta raps/ That gangsta shit makes a gangs of snaps, uh,” Dre spat on 1992’s “Let Me Ride”. However, in his interview on the Kevin Hart talk show, Dre revealed that he actually took issue with the label.

Dre Let Gangsta Rap Label Slide

“By the way, I never liked it being called that, ‘gangsta rap,’” Dr. Dre admitted. “That’s never what we went in to do. We were just making hardcore Hip Hop. That’s all it is. I don’t know why it got that title, or who gave it that title. I don’t know who the fuck that was but, it wasn’t us.” When Hart asked why Dre and the other N.W.A. members allowed it to be repeated, Dre simply said that “We let it go. We just embraced it and let it go, but that’s not what we decided to do,” he continued. “That’s not what we called. We [were] just doing Hip Hop. Hardcore Hip Hop,” Dre continued.

The interview also revealed that Dre did not come up with The Chronic himself. “The difference, there was money and business got involved, and it separated the friendship,” he said. “I had to separate myself from [Eazy-E] because he decided to take a different route. [Ice] Cube had already left, so I’m out here on my own. I have absolutely no idea what the fuck I’m gonna do. I just know I have this talent. A close friend of mine, we’ll call him D.O.C., talked me into doing the Chronic album,” he continued. “It wasn’t my decision, I was talked into doing that. I just went in there and went for it because I felt, at that time, it was a life or death situation.”

Dame Dash Explains How He & Jay-Z Competed Over Aaliyah

Recently, Dame Dash sat down for an enlightening and at times odd conversation with the That’s F***ed Up podcast, going into the Hov and Nas beef and much more. Moreover, that last adjective came into play thanks to a conversation they had around late R&B star Aaliyah. Specifically, the Roc-A-Fella cofounder explained how he and Jay-Z actually fought for her heart at the same time. Sure, many expressed some discomfort at the idea given how young she was, and at the general idea of discussing these things about someone who is no longer with us. However, that aside, it still made for a somewhat comical anecdote, albeit one that has a much darker and more tragic context.

“I didn’t look at her like that because she was like a tomboy,” Dame Dash began. “She was little to me. But then one time- I guess we had the same book keeper, and I walked past. Every time I saw her, she looked different. She had different looks every time and I was like, ‘Who the f**k is that?’ I just threw my A-game. And then, you know, I guess Jay was trying to get at her as well, and I didn’t know. It got brought up and I was like ‘F**k both of y’all.’ But it never worked out for them, and we were both trying to get at her. And I kind of eased up, but then we ran into each other. It’s a long story.

Dame Dash Breaks Down Battling With Jay-Z For Aaliyah’s Attention

“Everybody was getting at Aaliyah, bro,” Dame Dash continued. “She’ll go to dinner with a n***a but she wasn’t gonna just be smashing. So that was the big deal, like, who can get with Aaliyah.” Then, one of the podcast hosts asked whether Hov was bitter about it. “Obviously,” he replied. “Yeah, he felt a way. But everybody knows that s**t. Well, they be trying to act like he was really f***ing with her. Nah, he was sending flowers and doing all that s**t, he was courting her. So we were both going hard and we ended up in the same house for 4th of July. So it was, like, one day it might lean towards him then it’ll lean towards me.

“But I was just on fire that week,” he concluded. “Everything I was saying was funny, you know what I’m saying? I remember coming downstairs and he was like… *sigh*. ‘Cause like, you know, his friends were laughing at him and s**t.” For more news and the latest updates on Dame Dash and Jay-Z, stick around on HNHH.

Kanye West Might Be Working On New Music, Rooga Claims

It’s been almost a year since Kanye West’s controversial comments landed him in hot water once again. This time, though, amid brand deals splintering and particularly concerning comments and behavior, no one knew when he would try to make his musical comeback. Now, we have some rumors based on alleged collaborators that said day is soon to come. Moreover, Rooga recently appeared on the No Jumper podcast and claimed that Ye is putting together a new album in Japan, where his wife Bianca Censori is also staying with him. While the host, Adam 22, tried to get more details out of the Chicago rhymer, all he said was that “he’s working on an album.”

Of course, given the Yeezy mogul’s track record when it comes to released music, any news of a Kanye West record on the way is bound to make huge waves. Still, the most interesting thing that a new project will demonstrate, maybe, is how much his controversies bleed into it. After all, following his 2009 disruption at the MTV VMAs, reflections on fame, narrative, and being “the bad guy” fueled My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. With rampant antisemitism and his messy divorce from Kim Kardashian in mind, this could make for either a retribution or a disappointing double-down for the 46-year-old.

Rooga Says Ye’s In Album Mode

Regardless, that’s all just speculation and assumptions at the end of the day, beyond what Rooga expressed. While Kanye West has plenty of amazing albums, he also gained notoriety for the string of albums that he teased, previewed, or announced, but never released. Many fans out there probably won’t believe it ’til they see it, especially with his public context in mind. However, perhaps we will get something soon, as other reports indicate that Ye is working with Hit-Boy and Freddie Gibbs and spending time in Japan with Digital Nas and Ty Dolla $ign.

More Hints At Kanye West’s Musical Return

Meanwhile, there are a few other tidbits of information that could point to a new album, but they’re quite minimal and largely hearsay. In addition, previously unreleased tracks that resurfaced online from the 2011 era are also adding a little bit of excitement and hunger for new Ye. Let’s just hope that it’s not merely an extension of his personal life that he uses as a venting machine. With that in mind, come back to HNHH for the latest news and updates on Kanye West.
