Ginuwine Discusses His Strained Relationship With Aaliyah

During his recent interview with Drink Champs, Ginuwine discussed his difficult relationship with the late Aaliyah. He revealed that the “beef” between them revolved mostly around the singer’s family, claiming that he sadly never got the opportunity to set things straight with her before she died.

“We were all a family,” he told the host, “Missy [Elliot], Timbaland, her [Aaliyah], myself, Magoo, Playa, Tweet.” He explained that “all of [them] had a close-knit bond before tensions between them began to rise. “[Aaliyah] and I weren’t seeing eye-to-eye,” Ginuwine revealed. He then explained that the beef he had with Aaliyah was actually beef with her family. “I think it had to do a lot more with her loyalty to her uncle, Barry Hankerson,” the artist explained, admitting he had “a little bit” of beef with Hankerson. “He was the record head and the company was my manager,” he says, “I just decided to leave because whatever reason. Of course, her loyalty was to her family. So, that’s where that stemmed from.”

Missy Elliot Had A Dream That Aaliyah Forgave Ginuwine

“We ain’t have no beef or nothing like that,” he explained, “I ain’t beefing with no girl.“ He says, “it was one of those things where our time had separated.” Ginuwine went on to describe how he wanted to make up with Aaliyah, but never got the chance. “I always wanted to make sure that we were cool,” he explained. “I’m pretty sure she was just being told whatever it was … the narrative with me,” he revealed, citing Aaliyah’s loyalty to Hankerson. “I think at the end of the day she understood,” he says.

Later on in the interview, Ginuwine also shared that Missy Elliot had come to him before claiming to have had a dream that Aaliyah forgave him. He revealed that Elliot’s dream actually made him emotional, indicating how heavy the unresolved beef had been weighed on him. The host ended the discussion saying, “Rest in peace Aaliyah.”

In fact, he wants to take that learning process to the next level and actually hit the books. Furthermore, the multi-hyphenate entertainment figure revealed his pursuit of a master’s degree in child psychology. During their conversation, he mentioned some of the things that stick out in his mind the most in his early stages of advanced education.

“Oh, the presence of a father and how much will they need you,” Nick Cannon remarked. “The Freudian aspect of reverting back to your childhood trauma, or the lack thereof. Nature vs nurture. These are conversations I have several times every single day. I’m living, whether in therapy on my own or even just wanting to make sure that every single child has what they need, developmentally and emotionally. I’m studying the brain and at what point does sensory matter.”

Regardless of his studies, the “Wild ‘N Out” host is also taking other steps to develop his relationship with his children- or rather, with each other. “As much as that may be a wish of mine, I’ve got to respect that’s not a wish of everyone’s,” Nick Cannon said of bringing all his kids together. “I think that we’ll get there. One of the things I’ve witnessed from some of my elders in the game, once the children get of age to make their own decisions, it’ll happen. Because they’re currently under their mothers’ jurisdiction, I’m trying to play by the moms’ rules. But once they can make their own decisions, I would hope and pray that we’ll have established a strong enough relationship that they’ll want to come hang out with me.

“I think he’s kind of already figured it out,” he said of his six-year-old son Golden. “He knows he has other siblings. Even within his own house, he’s not an only child,” Cannon continued. “He knows about his older siblings. He’s been around the younger ones. He’s been around them, just nobody talks about it. It’s not like, ‘This is your brother or your sister. And I think the school that he’s in, he’s on the internet. Trick Daddy recently appeared on Revolt’s Big Facts where he discussed the Black experience in America. He offered his opinions on improving communities, family life, racial injustice, and more. “I’m tired of n***as playing the race card when it comes to everything,” he begins.

Trick Daddy then describes feeling as though problems within the Black community are caused or perpetuated by other people in the community. “N***as is other n***as only problem,” he explained, “Them crackers ain’t thinking about us.” He continues, “Every time we get a few dollars we run to them crackas stores and spend our money.” “Everybody ain’t thinking ’bout us. They don’t get money and come spend money with us,” Trick Daddy claims. He also went on to talk about the “street game and the dope game,” claiming that it funds hip hop. “That’s no secret,” he says, “But we’re trying to do something right with the money so let us do it.”

Trick Daddy Discusses “Playing The Race Card”

He went on to cite parenting as a major part of the problems he sees. “It’s our fault,” he says, “It’s our fault for not letting our kids appreciate things.” He goes on to reference his own upbringing, claiming that he believes parents should take a more traditional approach. “My mama never bought me a pair of tennis shoes over $30,” he explains, “We buy ’em Jordans.” Trick Daddy goes on to discuss relationships, claiming that people should start being more selective with those they choose to reproduce with.

“The average woman got two or three kids with two or three n***as,” he says, “every holiday the kids split up from their family.” He continues, “There’s no more tradition… Labor Day, Easter, Christmas, you know where you gone be at. Gunplay Speaks On Rappers Snitching & Bragging About It

These days, the conversation around snitching and hip-hop has become pretty volatile online, but Gunplay has his own thoughts on the subject. Moreover, the Miami rapper recently sat down for an interview with Cam Capone News, addressing a wealth of topics. Specifically, he lamented how the culture and game has shifted so much that MCs can now snitch and brag about it on their tracks. Furthermore, he spoke particularly on the Boosie Badazz arrest that went down recently, but his comments apply to other situations as well. While his comments on male and female rappers seem a tad unrelated, the 43-year-old’s point still came across with passion.

“It don’t matter,” Gunplay expressed said. “People don’t care about the integrity like that- the street code, and having integrity like that, it’s just gone. You can snitch now, and it’s okay. You can actually snitch and brag about it. You can be a male rapper one day, and the next day be a female rapper. It’s okay. And then, one day, you know, you can be married one day- and then the next day, be married to a f***in’ giraffe or some s**t, or a tree.

“Look at the game, man!” the Carol City MC continued. “Look at this s**t! You don’t see this s**t? Am I the only one seeing this s**t? It’s over. Morals is gone.” Of course, people have their own takes, experiences, and interpretations when it comes to these topics. One thing’s for sure, though: Gunplay lives by a strict moral compass when it comes to his beliefs. When people sought refunds for their GoFundMe donations to him after he bought his close collaborator a chain under unrelated circumstances, he went scorched earth on them. The campaign was actually to finance his daughter’s medical bills after emergency heart surgery.

“Every single one of you p***y-a** h*es and f**k n***as that went to the GoFundMe and donated and went and got a motherf***ing refund, you never gave it with your heart,” he said during a We In Miami interview. “You’re a piece of s**t. You’ll die that way. People that see me give my brother a gift, they automatically want to say that I bought that with GoFundMe money. N***a had to pay that back. Killer Mike Says Black People Will Be Harmed By Gun Control Laws

Iconic rapper Killer Mike is not a fan of new gun control laws in the United States. This comes despite the call from many across the nation to impose new laws that limit who can purchase guns. Mike believes that any new gun control laws in the United States will disproportionately affect black people compared to other groups. That does not mean that the MC thinks nothing should change, however. Mike suggests a few alternative approaches to address the surge in gun violence.

During an appearance on TMZ Live, Mike expressed his support for implementing curfews for minors in Atlanta as a way to reduce violence. The rapper has personal experience with this. He had a curfew while growing up in the area and believes it can be an effective measure. However, he firmly opposes the enactment of new legislation as a solution to gun-related crimes. As someone who strongly supports the Second Amendment, Mike raises concerns about the impact of stricter gun laws, particularly on black Americans. He believes that they would be the most negatively affected. Still, he believes those who own guns should be educated on them.

Mike Thinks Gun Safety Education Is The Right Move

When it comes to gun ownership, Killer Mike advocates for a different approach. He believes it is better for black families to be armed. However, he thinks they must receive better education on the safe use and storage of firearms. The United States has already witnessed an astounding 300-plus mass shootings in the current year. This could potentially lead to the deadliest year on record. That is certainly saying something in a country like the US, where mass shootings have been the norm for years.

Still, Killer Mike does not think gun control laws are the answer. Instead, Mike believes that a solution lies in increased funding for community facilities. He suggests providing more resources to places like YMCAs. He says these can serve as safe havens for children and help them stay away from trouble. Still, as more and more headlines hit the news each day, Mike’s solutions become more questionable. DJ Premier Credits Travis Scott’s Father For Teaching Him Music

In a recent interview with Idea Generation, DJ Premier revealed that some of his earliest influences in music are in Travis Scott’s family. He says that the rapper’s father and his childhood friend, Jaques Webster Sr., played a key role in teaching him how to play drums. He also shared that Travis Scott’s uncle, also named Travis, taught him how to play bass. The producer also explained that the family encouraged him to take music seriously and pursue it. DJ Premier reveals that the two brothers are still major influence for him.

“We call him Jack,” DJ Premier begins, “Jack’s mom was my English teacher … he has a brother named Travis and he has a sister named Sonora — they’re literally across the street.” The producer continues, “As I got older, getting closer to almost junior high, we’d go over to the Websters’ house anyway because they had a VCR—they were the first ones I knew with a VCR—and they would tape Soul Train. And I’d be like, ‘Yo, I can watch Soul Train over and over and over.’”

“I’d go over there and Jack’s playing the drums, like killin’ it,” DJ Premier explains, “And Travis was playin’ the bass, which is two of my influences when I make beats to this day, is my drums and my bass.” The artist continued, “And I was like, ‘Can you show me how to do that?’ Taught me how to play [drumming gestures with his hands], started playing with them, jamming with them. Travis taught me how to play bass, started playing with them.” The lessons changed the trajectory of DJ Premier’s life, transforming him from a consumer of music to a musician himself.

“Next thing you know,” he wraps up the story, “I’m now taking that seriously. Once I got to that point of learning it and mastering it, that’s when I started to apply that to what I do when it comes to music production, so yeah, it goes that far back.”
