Yo Gotti Says JAY-Z Inspired Him To Further His Education

Yo Gotti says that he’s been taking classes at UCLA’s Anderson School of Management since December 2023. Speaking with Forbes for an interview published on Friday, he revealed that JAY-Z is the one who inspired him to do so.

“I may want to buy a company or acquire another company,” he said. “So I’m making sure I’m supertight—and understand the language and the verbiage myself other than listening to financial experts.” In addition to his rap career, Gotti brings in income from CMG Music Group, the label that houses Moneybagg Yo, GloRilla, and Blac Youngsta. He also owns a minority stake in the MLS team, D.C. United. “If I never wrote another rap again, I’m financially straight,” he told the publication. “My whole career, I was setting up for that.”

JAY-Z even praised Gotti’s business acumen to Forbes for the piece, explaining that it’s “evident in every move [Gotti] makes, breaking the mold of the old-guard definition of an executive.” The smart business moves have led to Gotti boasting a net worth of over $100 Million.

Gotti isn’t the only person JAY-Z has imparted wisdom on. DDG recently revealed what the legendary rapper had for him during Beyonce’s birthday party. “When I do see him, I try to ask him for a little bit of game, a little bit of advice,” he told Hollywood Unlocked. “I asked him at [Beyoncé’s] birthday party, I was like, ‘What advice could you give me as an artist?’ And he gave me like an analogy. He was like, ‘If people go to a Chinese restaurant, they expecting Chinese food.’ So, give the people what they came for.” Be on the lookout for further updates on Yo Gotti on HotNewHipHop.

Ja Rule “Can’t Wait” To Build School In Ghana

Ja Rule has a lot of exciting things to look forward to this year, and has decided to share his wealth with those in need. The NYC native has another album on the way, is gearing up for a tour, and just signed a major new label deal. According to him, the deal is potentially worth a whopping $100 Million, but he doesn’t plan to keep it all to himself.

Ja Rule Eager To “Break Ground” In Ghana

Back in 2022, he donated $25,000 from the sales of The Painted House’s first NFT to HBCU partners. ICONN Media, which he also founded, matched the donation. The money was split equally, going to Jackson State University, Morgan State University, Hampton University, Spelman College, and Morehouse College.

While Ja Rule plans to give back in 2024, he also recently shared a few words of advice for critics in the new year on Twitter, explaining why hating is not the way to go. “Thanks for the love, and to the haters, [suck my d**k],” he began. “Here’s what’s needed to be understood for 24. HATE is for suckers and d*ck riding is NOT a form of transportation. Lmao, it’s getting you nowhere… Stop being goofy and get money!!! DJ Premier Credits Travis Scott’s Father For Teaching Him Music

In a recent interview with Idea Generation, DJ Premier revealed that some of his earliest influences in music are in Travis Scott’s family. He says that the rapper’s father and his childhood friend, Jaques Webster Sr., played a key role in teaching him how to play drums. He also shared that Travis Scott’s uncle, also named Travis, taught him how to play bass. The producer also explained that the family encouraged him to take music seriously and pursue it. DJ Premier reveals that the two brothers are still major influence for him.

“We call him Jack,” DJ Premier begins, “Jack’s mom was my English teacher … he has a brother named Travis and he has a sister named Sonora — they’re literally across the street.” The producer continues, “As I got older, getting closer to almost junior high, we’d go over to the Websters’ house anyway because they had a VCR—they were the first ones I knew with a VCR—and they would tape Soul Train. And I’d be like, ‘Yo, I can watch Soul Train over and over and over.’

Travis Scott’s Father Inspired DJ Premier

“I’d go over there and Jack’s playing the drums, like killin’ it,” DJ Premier explains, “And Travis was playin’ the bass, which is two of my influences when I make beats to this day, is my drums and my bass.” The artist continued, “And I was like, ‘Can you show me how to do that?’ Taught me how to play [drumming gestures with his hands], started playing with them, jamming with them. Travis taught me how to play bass, started playing with them.” The lessons changed the trajectory of DJ Premier’s life, transforming him from a consumer of music to a musician himself.

“Next thing you know,” he wraps up the story, “I’m now taking that seriously. Once I got to that point of learning it and mastering it, that’s when I started to apply that to what I do when it comes to music production, so yeah, it goes that far back.”
