Metro Boomin Plans To Stop Releasing His Albums On Streaming Services

Metro Boomin is the most famous producer in hip-hop at the moment. He kicked off the Drake vs. Kendrick Lamar battle, scoring a number one single and dropping a viral instrumental in the process. Both of his studio albums have gone platinum. He even dropped an acclaimed soundtrack to a Sony superhero film in 2023. He’s a recognizable brand, which is why he wants to make control over the distribution of his music. Namely, the use of digital streaming services.

Metro Boomin took a screenshot of a X (formerly Twitter) exchange on June 24. The screenshot was in response to a question about “industry math.” It broke down, in simple terms, how little an artist actually makes from an album when it’s uploaded to DSPs. “A fan needs to stream an artist’s music 20 times a day for a whole year for that artist to make $25 from that fan,” the tweet read. Metro Boomin not only co-signed the tweet, but made a big announcement. He told followers that these paltry streaming profits are partially why he’s going to stop putting albums on streaming. “This is why my next album probably be the last one streaming,” he wrote.

The producer didn’t specify what his next album will be. The announcement could pose issues for DSPs like Apple Music and Spotify, though. Metro Boomin and Future dominated the Spotify charts with their joint album WE DON”T TRUST YOU in March. Forbes reported that the duo occupied half a dozen of the top 10 spots on Spotify’s U.S. charts. The biggest song, “Like That,” beat out the second place entry by an impressive 400K streams. This announcement comes a year after Metro Boomin decided to sell part of his publishing catalog to Shamrock Capital for $70 million.

Metro is mindful of his worth, but he’s made a point of avoiding “cash grab” trends. He spoke on the importance of maintaining a quality brand during an interview with Variety. “I feel like people can just tell I care,” he asserted. “At a time when everybody has their hand out — like, ‘Let me do this for cash; let me make a dance for TikTok’ — you can hear all the details and thought behind my music.” Only time will tell if the producer sticks to his non-streaming plan.

DJ Akademiks Points Out Foolio Fans Predicting His Death Under Pre-Shooting Instagram Post

Foolio’s tragic shooting at his birthday party in Tampa, Florida over the weekend shocked and saddened many fans, although some of them already had their reservations. Moreover, a lot of folks issued warnings and predicted that some extra caution would be necessary when he shared the address to his celebratory events on social media. In fact, DJ Akademiks recently went back to the rapper’s social media post showing the address and looked at comments from fans predicting that something horrible would happen. Of course, even the most skeptical and cold-blooded of spectators probably couldn’t have really predicted that we and the Florida native’s loved ones would face this loss.

Furthermore, Asian Doll recently caught flack for making light of Foolio’s death, as she tweeted and deleted a cigarette emoji after his passing. They had a lot of issues in the past, especially over Doll’s reaction to her then-boyfriend King Von’s shooting. Overall, it was a pretty nasty and distasteful situation either way, and the propagation of it didn’t make things any less nasty. Hopefully we see less responses like this in the public eye, and detractors and enemies respect those mourning the loss regardless of what their feelings might indicate.

DJ Akademiks Revisits Foolio’s Instagram Posts

Sadly, this triumphant reaction to Foolio’s death has been a big part of the social media discussion around it, led primarily by rap rival Yungeen Ace. He elicited some disturbed and flabbergasted reactions from fans after he dropped a diss track against him following his death, which many found to be in the poorest taste. Not only that, but Ace even insinuated that he ordered this, although that’s probably more of a result of rap beef boasting than actual criminal involvement. Either way, it’s not a pretty look to witness.

Meanwhile, new footage of the attack’s aftermath is also causing a lot of Internet debate and conversation. It’s a difficult event to witness, especially as conversations range more around how Foolio lived and not about how the hip-hop community can advocate against this violence. Regardless, folks will probably continue to discuss this tragedy in the coming days, and new information might surface as well. He soundtracked the post with Metro Booomin’s “BBL Drizzy.” The original picture stems from a trip Shaq took to Spain in 2019, but there are conflicting reports about the identity of the woman. Some outlets have claimed her to be model Danielle Dilworth.

Plenty of Drake fans criticized the NBA legend when DJ Akademiks shared the post on Instagram. “This makes Shaq look way crazier than Drake. Drake is photo shopped. Shaq actually in this pic [laughing emoji]. Look like a pic he get off on,” one user wrote. Another added: “Imagine if Drake did something like this. Shaq isn’t the first NBA star to weigh in on the drama surrounding Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Metro Boomin, and more artists. Lamar’s recent concert in Los Angeles, The Pop Out – Ken & Friends, featured several professional basketball players. LeBron James, James Harden, Russell Westbrook, and DeMar DeRozan were all in attendance. Moreover, her latest Instagram rant arrived in waves: first came a written statement on her Instagram Story, then followed by an IG Live session in the dark. Specifically, the Bronx femcee took issue with people trying to manipulate and gaslight her when it comes to taking care of her children and thinking that because she’s “ghetto,” as she described herself, they can get away with it.

Since she mentioned Offset as being a great father but then went on to diss a wide general group, many folks in the comments of the IG post below theorize that she could be referring to her on-and-off-again boo’s family. “I grew up poor but with sooo much love…” Cardi B began her caption on her latest Instagram Story over the weekend. “From my mom and dad side of the family… I will not accept nothing less for my children… I would not accept fake love for my kids.. Foolio Offered Fans The Address To His Birthday Party Where He Was Tragically Murdered

Foolio tragically passed away at age 26 in Tampa, Florida early Sunday (June 23) following a shooting at his continued birthday celebrations. Moreover, he had shared via his Instagram Stories that he was sending the address to people DM’ing him and asked folks to reach out if they wanted to pull up. Of course, this move is facing a lot of criticism, scrutiny, and saddened reevaluation in the wake of this tragedy. The Jacksonville rapper had promoted his pool party a lot online, and when police said that there were too many people inside his Airbnb, he moved to a Holiday Inn and let fans know as well, and that was where unknown perpetrators at press time “ambushed” him and shot him according to his lawyer Lewis Fusco.

“What we have learned, and this is early in the investigation, two cars were shot at,” Joneé Lewis relayed, who is a public information officer for the Tampa Police Department. “The victim in this morning’s shooting is believed to be Charles Jones [Foolio’s birth name]. Positive identification is pending confirmation from the Medical Examiner’s Office.” “At approximately 4:40 am, Tampa Police received a 911 call for a shooting at 11606 McKinley Drive,” the department told XXL, confirming the loss of Foolio. “A total of four people were injured in the shooting. One person was pronounced deceased, three other victims are being treated at the hospital.

“Their condition is listed as stable at this time,” Tampa PD’s statement on Foolio continued. “Police are investigating what led up to the shooting and working to identify those involved. This is an active investigation. Additional information will be released when available. Anyone with information related to this shooting incident is asked to contact Tampa PD. [Call] 813-231-6130 or share a tip via Tip411, which is accessible through the TampaPD app.” This comes after his attorney Fusco confirmed the news of his death to Jacksonville news outlet News4JAX.

Kendrick Lamar’s fiancée, Whitney Alford, can be seen rapping along to the hit diss track, “Not Like Us,” in the background of a video that Denzel Curry posted from the rapper’s concert in Los Angeles from earlier this week. When Curry posted the clip to confirm he was in attendance at the star-studded event, eagle-eyed fans noticed an impassioned Alfrod rapping the song in the background. Drake has brought her and Lamar’s relationship up several times during their ongoing feud. He’s accused Lamar of abusing his partner and claimed he hasn’t seen their children in years.

Drake Celebrates His Head Of Security Chubbs On Instagram Amid Kendrick Lamar Beef

Drake still hasn’t publicly responded to Kendrick Lamar’s “Pop Out” at press time, but fans are already looking for the hints. Moreover, he did recently send a message to his head of security and OVO member Chubbs on his Instagram Story, including a picture of them together for what read like birthday well-wishes or some other form of celebratory remarks. “More life Capo,” the Toronto superstar wrote on the black-and-white pic of them together. “Plenty love in the family to go around and just wait till that other s**t comes back around [crying-laughing emoji] [party hat and confetti emoji] @chubbsview.”

Furthermore, this follows some other OVO affiliates (that Kendrick Lamar called out on his Drake diss tracks) defending their leader on social media. Baka Not Nice, for example, posted some videos of the 6ix God performing in Los Angeles for his most recent tour, and it was unsurprisingly electric to see the crowd rock out with him. Of course, this was most likely a direct rebuttal to “The Pop Out,” K.Dot’s concert that rounded up the whole West Coast behind him on his victory lap around the rap beef arena. However, the jury’s still out on whether or not Drizzy will ever return to this topic again or if he’ll focus on beating his competition with hits and more artistic engagement.

Meanwhile, there’s also some journalistic conflict in the Kendrick Lamar and Drake beef, albeit some light caution-advising between two former colleagues. “Ak is the one on stream during the NBA finals,” Joe Budden recently said about DJ Akademiks’ coverage of the feud, in which he believes Ak’s relationship with Aubrey has played a bias-inducing role. “Good journalistic s**t you was doing, but you gotta know that any Drake news coming from you is viewed through a different type of eye. It comes off as a mission sent from Drake.”

Whether or not Drake and OVO choose to worry about themselves or chase a comeback will be one of 2024’s most burning questions. We already saw a bit of a return to normalcy, as we’re back with the old rumors about the XXXTENTACION murder that folks already debunked. Diddy Reps Claim He Stands By Cassie Apology Despite Deleting It

Diddy made a confusing decision on June 21. The Bad Boy mogul decided to delete all of his posts on Instagram. The speculation as to why was overshadowed, though, by the fact that his apology video to Cassie was one of the posts deleted. Fans quickly honed in on this decision, and questioned whether it meant Diddy takes back the statements he made in the video. It didn’t take long for Diddy’s reps to get on the horn with TMZ and attempt straighten things out.

Diddy’s reps told TMZ that he stands by the apology. The outlet was told that the mogul was not taking a shot at Cassie by removing the video. The rep cited the deletion of all Diddy’s Instagram posts as proof. They then went on to tell TMZ that the apology video already served its purpose. “Diddy’s apology was seen around the world,” the outlet wrote. “and “[It] got published/broadcast everywhere — so everyone’s seen it, and it exists forever. In terms of how feels. We’re told Diddy meant what he said in that clip, and that stands even today.” In short, Diddy reportedly meant what he said, and still does.

The clarification did not stop there. The mogul’s reps claimed that the decision to wipe the IG account is not a strategic one. TMZ was told the decision was made spontaneously, and doesn’t have a significance beyond Diddy wanting a clean feed. It’s admittedly hard to take the mogul at his word, given the various crimes and incidents he’s denied. He was adamant that was innocent when Cassie filed a lawsuit against him for abuse. Then, the video of Diddy assaulting Cassie in a hotel lobby surfaced on CNN.

The mogul’s apology was criticized even before its deletion. A member of the form representing Cassie, Hillary Povar, dismissed it outright to Fox 11. “It wasn’t about her,” she claimed. “It wasn’t about what he did wrong, and I think that’s where we see a lot of things go wildly off course from a PR perspective.” Povar also emphasized the importance of legal action over internet “cancelation.” “It’s just ineffective in terms of really dealing with what the actual issue is.”

Havoc Pens Heartfelt Tribute To Prodigy On Anniversary Of His Death

Havoc and Prodigy changed hip-hop. As Mobb Deep, they perfected the hardcore East Coast sound. They also sold three million records in the process, making them one of the most respected duos in the genre’s history. Havoc and Prodigy also found success as solo artists, but the latter’s life was tragically cut short by sickle cell disease. Prodigy died on June 20, 2017 at the age of 42. A lot of time has passed, but Havoc is still paying respects to his former partner.

Havoc took to Instagram on June 20 to honor Prodigy’s memory. He posted various photos of him and Prodigy over the years, along with a heartfelt caption. “Missing my brother,” he wrote. “Today marks 7 years, feels like just yesterday we were rocking them stages and reflecting on our journey.” The rapper followed up this post with a second. A simpler post, with only one photo and one phrase, but emotional nonetheless. “Day one’s,” he wrote under a photo of the two rappers as children. This isn’t the firs time Havoc has spoken highly of his partner in public.

The rapper was questioned by TMZ shortly after Prodigy’s death and asked to make a statement. he made it clear that he needed time to grief. “I’m still f**ked up,” he admitted. “I can’t even listen to ‘Shook Ones’ or any songs. I can hardly look at the pictures… [we] met when I was 15. I’m 43 right now.. I still can’t believe it.” Havoc was continued to brandish and celebrated Mobb Deep’s legacy in the years since Prodigy’s passing. Especially when it comes to the anniversaries of seminal albums like The Infamous.

Havoc, who considers himself to be lyrically masterful, told Billboard that Prodigy outshined him on their breakthrough release. He does maintain, however, that he got Prodigy on the album before. “The whole album he stepped his game up,” Havoc conceded. “[When] we were on Juvenile Hell, I thought I was the lyricist of the group. When we started working on The Infamous album… as time went on I said ‘goddam, this dude is a animal.’” In 2023, Havoc announced that a new Mobb Deep album would be released with previously unheard Prodigy verses.
