Cardi B says that she’s not interested in making music about her “pain” or “struggles” and instead wants it to “just be about fun.” She discussed the idea of handling more serious topics during an interview on Complex’s Hot Ones.
“A lot of people tell me I should put my pain, my struggle, in my music,” Cardi began. “A lot of my pain, or struggles, or whatever the crap is going on, the masses might not be able to relate. The masses might not be able to relate. Like it’s like, oh my gosh, they’re tearing a new asshole on Twitter on me because I said this, this, and that.”
She continued: “The average person is like, ‘Girl! Shut up! I gotta work at 7 AM in the morning.’ I gotta do this, this, and that. So it’s like, I don’t really like to make music — like I would normally do an intro, like I would just literally like to make my intro of everything — addressing all the bullshit, addressing the bitches, addressing the shit I gotta go through, and then just the whole album, just be about fun.” Check out her full appearance on Hot Ones below.
Cardi B Discusses Her Music While Eating Spicy Wings
The comments come as Cardi gears up for the release of her long-awaited sophomore album. During an interview on Ebro in the Morning, earlier this month, she told fans not to hold out hope for a release by the end of the year. It’s been over five years since her debut, Invasion of Privacy, back in 2018. She dropped the fourth single from the project, “Bongos,” featuring Megan Thee Stallion on September 8th. Be on the lookout for further updates on the album in the coming months on HotNewHipHop.
Cardi B is an artist known for her eccentric personality inside and outside the music. Whether she’s being interviewed by Jimmy Fallon or by niche music journalist Nardwuar, clips from the interactions often go viral. People gravitate towards her no-filter authenticity, which is humorous and engaging. During her recent appearance on Hot Ones, host Sean Evans saw this firsthand and discovered some previously unknown things about her.
Viewers have praised Sean for his interview skills, and Cardi even complimented him at the end of the interview. For many viewers, this interview was the perfect mix of entertaining and informative. Even her die-hard fans commented about learning something new about her during it. In this list, we’ve gathered five things that stuck out most during Cardi’s time on “the show with hot questions and even hotter wings.”
She Didn’t Know If “Bongos” Would Be A Hit
Cardi B is no stranger to songs that are immensely successful, but even she can’t predict if the same level of success will happen every time. Upon hearing the beat of the song for the first time, she just knew it made her want to dance. She played the completed version for her husband, fellow rapper Offset, and he gave it his co-sign. Cardi also knew the music video for the song had to match the tropical party feeling it gave her and wanted this feeling to be accented by luxury. They brought designer Harris Reed in to create several hats that displayed the luxurious essence Cardi wanted, and she praised how his big and bold designs lined up with her vision excellently.
Cardi B Prefers To Make “Fun” Music
Many of Cardi B’s chart-topping hits feature her on an upbeat instrumental where she discusses having a good time or takes pride in her many abilities and wants as a woman. However, tracks like “Get Up 10” from her debut album Invasion of Privacy are far from this. Many of her listeners have asked why she does not make similar music. They believe it truly showcases her abilities as a rapper and shows a vulnerable side to her personality. In this interview, she says she doesn’t because the masses may not relate to her pain and struggle. Her preference is to have a track like that open the album and then let the rest of the album be about having fun.
She Hates Doing Clean Versions Of Songs
Like most people, Cardi B is not a fan of the clean version of songs. A sense of loss comes with censoring lyrics, which can sometimes throw off an entire bar. Cardi called it “annoying,” citing the clean lyrics she had to say as “corny” and comparing them to Kidz Bop music. Rappers often have to censor themselves when performing songs on television, although sometimes, something may slip out in the heat of the moment. In some cases, artists will purposely not edit themselves because they believe it compromises their creativity. The fact she admitted she doesn’t like it but has to so her music can reach the masses is two sides of one coin for an artist of her status.
Cardi B Doesn’t Believe In Aliens
Cardi B has the type of personality where she can give her feedback on any topic and have something interesting or funny to say about it. Sean Evans cited how Cardi said she wanted more people to ask her about current events, so he decided to question her about one of the most popular recent topics in the news today: aliens. “I don’t believe the aliens are real,” she said. “If aliens are real…and they’re smarter than us…why haven’t they invaded us?” Cardi believes they would want to control humans simply because we are power-hungry, and they know they could overtake us if they wanted to.
She Is A Big Fan Of American History
Deep knowledge and interest in American history is something sometimes associated with underground rappers or legacy artists but Cardi B’s interest in it was surprising to many viewers. She segued into the topic after Sean asked her about her interview with David Letterman and shared that visiting Franklin D. Roosevelt’s house with him was her favorite memory. She beamed excitedly about how surreal it felt to be in the same room where FDR and Winston Churchill discussed the nuclear bomb.
“Anybody that loves and knows me knows I love FDR. And I love Eleanor Roosevelt,” she shared. While watching the Hot Ones interview, it’s clear there were some timelapse edits as Cardi shared multiple facts about the former President and his wife. She shared that war fascinates her and prefers learning about World War II more than World War I.

Earlier today, Cardi B’s highly anticipated episode of Hot Ones was released. She sat down opposite Sean Evans to eat some spicy wings and discuss a wide variety of topics. She talked about her new single “Bongos” as you’d expect but also got into some stranger subject matter. She discussed her fascination with learning about World War II and how it fostered a fascination with FDR. She also claimed that she doesn’t believe there are aliens out there despite the recent congressional hearings that got UFO fans buzzing.
But in a more serious moment in the interview, she paid tribute to some of her biggest idols. She specifically draws attention to Rihanna and Jay-Z, who obviously have quite a bit of music pedigree between them. But it’s their business acumen that Cardi praises directly. She describes the two as “super moguls” highlighting their ability to transition their musical success into the business world. Check out her thoughts on Rihanna and Jay-Z and the entire interview below.
Cardi B Shouts Out Musical “Super Moguls” Rihanna & Jay-Z
Cardi B’s stint on Hot Ones is likely a refreshing reprise from her new cycle of various ongoing beefs. She sparked a beef with Joe Budden after the podcast host critiqued her new single “Bongos.” Despite Budden’s insistence that there isn’t any real beef underneath it all, stories of the two at odds have persisted.
Cardi B’s husband Offset is also embroiled in his own beef with Nicki Minaj’s husband Kenneth Petty. The pair have been taking shots at each other back and forth on social media which fans couldn’t help but connect to long running rumors of bad feelings between Nicki and Cardi. The beef escalated so much that Petty had his house arrest re-instated after threatening Offset online. Thankfully, things seem to be cooling down in recent days. What do you think of Cardi B’s praise for Jay-Z and Rihanna? Let us know in the comment section below.
As Cardi B says in her new interview with Hot Ones, anyone who knows her knows she’s a big history buff. And as she reveals in the interview, her favorite era of US History is World War II (she’s just like your dad!). She explains why as she struggles through the pain of munching on the “world’s hottest wings” (using her ultra long nails as “tweezers” to pick them up!).
“I’m obsessed with World War II,” she says, recalling her visit to Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s house. “I’m obsessed with just learning everything about it so for me to just be in the same room that Churchill and FDR was discussing the nuke, it was just such a moment for me.” She enjoyed talking about the moment so much, that she actually recovered from the 8th wing, the infamous Da Bomb (of course, there’s also a slick edit from the Hot Ones team, so it definitely took a while).
Cardi’s album rollout is off to a great start; between releasing “Bongos” with Megan Thee Stallion, performing it at the VMAs, and delivering an all-timer interview with Hot Ones, Cardi’s name should be lingering on listeners’ tongues the way Da Bomb did on hers. Over the years hundreds of celebrities have sat opposite Sean Evans and tried their hand at eating some incredibly spicy wings on his show Hot Ones. The format has long created hilarious moments for celebs who aren’t ready for the heat. That seemed to also be the case for the newest celeb to take the spot, Cardi B. Amid questions about aliens, intro songs on an album, and her love for Rihanna, Cardi also tries to stomach some spicy wings.
The interview opens up with a teaser clip of Cardi shedding some spice-induced tears. In the snippet, she claims “I wanna go home to my kids, this is crazy.” Despite the serious-sounding claims, the rapper is pretty much all smiles throughout the interview. She also manages to hold up to the spicy wings better than many of Evans’ other guests. Unsurprisingly, fans rushed to the comments to praise her right away. “I don’t even listen to her music but there’s no denying Cardi is a real one. Cant put her personality down” one of the top comments on the video reads. Check out the entire interview below.
Recently, Cardi B has entered a sort of mini beef with Joe Budden. The podcast host gave his thoughts on Cardi’s newest track “Bongos” and it wasn’t necessarily all positive. She took issue with some of his observations and comments, though the beef ended up blown out of proportion. Budden continues to claim that there were never any hard feelings and it was all blown out of proportion by the way it was reported.
Cardi also ended up being subjected to a proxy beef of sorts. Her husband Offset and Nicki Minaj’s husband Kenneth Petty took shots at each other repeatedly online. It got so bad eventually that Petty’s house arrest was reinstated after he made threats at Offset online. What do you think of Cardi B’s interview on Hot Ones? Most people might feel intimidated to follow that episode. Cardi B does not strike one as a person intimidated by anyone or anything. And so, she’s host Sean Evans’ next guess, scheduled to “take on the wings of death” on Hot Ones on Thursday, September 28, at 11 a.m. EST.
First We Feast posted a teaser clip earlier Wednesday, September 27, in which Cardi admitted, “I’m telling you. My fans been begging me to do this show for so, so, so, so long. I have to give it to them, and I’m so scared. Oh my gosh.”
Evans asked Cardi whether she immediately knew her latest single, “Bongos” with Megan Thee Stallion, would be a hit once she heard “that Dembow-style” beat. Cardi explained that she didn’t necessarily realize it had hit potential, but it made her dance. Evans followed that up with a question about her process of recording clean-for-radio versions of her songs.
“Annoying!” she said, slouching back in her chair. “So annoying, like, you know, I’m doing the clean version, and it’s like, ‘Alright, baby, eat it up like a plum.’ And it’s like, ‘No, you still can’t play that for pop radio’ or whatever, and I’m like, ‘Baby, eat these peaches and plums.’ But I had no choice.”
The teaser clip comes after Cardi confirmed she was the next Hot Ones guest earlier this week. First We Feast posted a much shorter snippet, showing Cardi saying, “Oh, my God. I’m scared.”
“[I will tour] as soon as I finish my album,” Cardi told Andy Cohen on the September 11 episode of Watch What Happens Live, adding, “The album will be done this year. And it will be put out next year.”
Who knows how many more details will be squeezed out of Cardi by spicy hot wings.

Cardi B often gives us insight into her private life via her candid social media posts. Interestingly, the New York native doesn’t sit for a lot of formal interviews. She spoke with Jason Lee on his new podcast back in January, and more recently, she did an extensive press run to promote her “Bongos” single with Megan Thee Stallion, as well as her long-awaited sophomore LP. During her stop at The Breakfast Club, Charlamagne Tha God suggested that it wasn’t necessary for Cardi to drop the project, but she seemed adamant that we’ll be seeing it on streamers by the first quarter of 2024.
As she continues to prepare the untitled body of work, the Hustlers actress confirmed on Monday (September 26) that she’s got another big interview coming later this week. “Bardi Gang, remember I told ya I was doing something ya been asking for?” she tweeted yesterday afternoon after @firstwefeast posted news of her appearance on their beloved web series. “This week on #HotOnes, we got @iamcardib vs. The Wings of Death,” they excitedly shared.
Cardi B is Bringing Her Signature Spice to the Hot Ones Set
The temperature-rising conversation will hit the internet at 11 AM ET on Thursday (September 28). Back in 2019, the black-haired beauty’s husband, Offset, appeared on Hot Ones, so at least Cardi had the advantage of his past experience to help prepare her. It’s unclear exactly what she’ll discuss while diving into her wings, but we’re willing to bet we’ll hear about the Invasion of Privacy artist’s family, recent collaborations, future plans for her music, and perhaps even some of her past scandals.
Besides the exciting Hot Ones announcement, Cardi B has already shared some other big news with her social media followers this week. According to the mother of two, there’s a ghost residing in her home that’s attempting to be intimate with her when Offset isn’t around. Read what she had to say about that at the link below, and check back later for more hip-hop/pop culture news updates.

Claded in a hot red casual suit, Pedro Pascal feasted on a bunch of spicy chicken wings as he answered questions about the process of making TV shows like The Last of Us, Game of Thrones, and The Mandalorian. The Chile-born actor awed fans on Hot Ones, expressing composure as though he wasn’t devouring fiery food. Sean Evans, the show’s host firstly began by welcoming the 47-year-old actor on the show. His guest replied, “Thank you for having me. I’m so glad for the opportunity to finally be taken seriously for once.”
As he spoke about some of his most recent acting projects, Pascal described his creative sci-fi partner, Grogu, aka Baby Yoda in Disney’s original Star Wars series as a very cooperative and fulfilling partner. He went on to admit that it was pretty crazy having to say goodbye to his friend in season two. Elsewhere in the interview, we heard about the beloved actor’s childhood and his love for the theater.
Pedro Pascal’s Childhood and the Theater
Brushing through his family’s relocation to California at a young age, the actor talked about his time at the South Coast Repertory in Costa Mesa, There, his mother enrolled him in the community theater. Clearly, this push from his family matriarch lead Pascal down the right path, as he’s now one of Hollywood’s most beloved heroes.
Talking a bit about his knowledge of the making of heavily costumed movie scenes, Pascal mentioned the disdain he feels while watching a movie where he can pinpoint some excesses. He additionally described the infamous bloody scenes from Game of Thrones in which his eyes were brutally gouged out. Elsewhere, he shared that the final laps of Equalizer were the most relaxing, and he was able to catch up on some quality sleep.
On social media so far, fans of the foreign star are commending his composure while chowing down on hot wings with Sean Evans. Which of Pedro Pascal’s previous roles has been your favourite? As the future of his next album is rumored to hang in the balance, LL Cool J is testing the heat on Hot Ones. The beloved Rap icon is fresh off an epic Grammy Award performance with dozens of his peers as they celebrated 50 years of Hip Hop. After heating up the stage, he’s powering his way through different levels of hot wings on the First We Feast series, and it’s an episode that had audiences laughing.
It was also clear from the jump that spicy foods may not be LL’s cup of tea. He ate the first wing with a low-burning sauce and joked, “That’s hot enough.” While laughing, he made it through, but it didn’t take long for LL to regret agreeing to appear on the show. The Rap icon was asked questions about his career as he paced himself. LL spoke about this year’s Grammy performance and admitted it was his “most enjoyable.”
This Year’s Grammy’s Made Hip Hop History
“I’ve had other moments hosting, just purely hosting, that were amazing as well,” LL further stated. “But as an artist, this was like, by far the most fun for me. Being on stage with Rakim and Public Enemy and Salt-N-Pepa and Grandmaster Flash, Melle Mel, Rahim. I just want people to know that, you know, for years Hip Hop has been served in a brown paper bag. The greasy brown paper bag. I also want people to—I wanted it to be served on a silver platter and thankfully, it was. I was able to make a huge contribution.”
He praised the production and Questlove for helping to curate the performance. “I think it turned out to be something real special for Hip Hop,” LL added. Previously, Questlove also spoke about the development of the show. He revealed that it wasn’t an easy feat getting all of those artists together. Fans took to social media to fire off questions to The Roots icon about why certain rappers didn’t show face. Quest was ready for all complaints.
Questlove Set The Record Straight
Undoubtedly, we would have loved to see all of our favorites at the Grammys Hip Hop 50th tribute. However, Questlove revealed that many people declined, others were already booked, and some had excuses that the Rap legend didn’t share. There were reportedly talks of having something feature all femcees, but they decided against it. Production also opted to avoid highlighting artists who have passed on because there was always the chance that someone would be excluded and fans would be upset.
Ice-T also revealed that Lil Wayne and Future were supposed to perform at the Grammys, too. However, it is unclear exactly why the two hitmakers didn’t make the stage. Check out more from LL Cool J above as he quotes Cardi B’s “WAP” lyrics to describe the heat on Hot Ones.
