DJ Premier And Common Drop Visuals For “In Moe” (Speculation)

unnamed 3

Before the surprise surprise release of Beats That Collected Dust, Vol. 3 in September, it had been over a decade (Vol. 2 was released in 2011) since DJ Premier released a volume of the fan-favorite series.

As is the case with every Volume, every beat has its own unique origin story; from who they initially may have been produced for, to why they ended up collecting “dust.”  The beats may be dusty, but they still bang, and one of Beats That Collected Dust, Vol. 3 standouts, “In Moe,” has now added another chapter to its story, as the instrumental has been graced with vocals from legendary multi-hyphenate Common.

While it’s been far too long since they last collaborated, Preem and Common demonstrate they still “play life and music in the same key,” and just like they did with “The 6th Sense” (the lead single from Common’s classic, and Grammy Nominated Like Water For Chocolate album), DJ Premier and Common catch lightning in a bottle again with “In Moe” (Speculation).  “In Moe” (Speculation) is now available at all DSP’s and you can now watch the video below.

“In October, I posted a clip of me playing the “In Moe” (Instrumental) Vinyl on IG, and the comments went crazy.  It’s currently at 4.4 million views.  Artists like Busta Rhymes, Action Bronson, and Common said they would love to rhyme on it” DJ Premier shares.

“Common delivered a dope verse that same week. On the night of the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame event, Chaka Khan went on her IG Live during her induction and brought Common onstage during her performance to do the Melle Mel verse of “I Feel For You.”  I called him the next morning to see if we could do a video at my studio while he was still in NY.  We only had a short window, due to me going to 45 King’s funeral, and then to another wake later that night for my co-manager’s father-in-law.  The energy was very positive that day, and we accomplished the mission. “

In addition to their new single and video “In Moe” (Speculation) being released (Common’s first new single in over two years), Premier will also be performing at tonight’s 24th Annual Latin Grammy Awards in Seville, Spain.  Preem will perform alongside Feid, as their collaboration, “Le Pido A Dios,” is nominated for Best Hip-Hop/Rap Song.

Killer Mike has been nominated for multiple Grammy Awards, but the big one is Best Rap Album for his critically acclaimed release, Michael. Speaking with AllHipHop, Killer Mike is grateful but is now looking to get the win.

“I wanna win and I ain’t gonna lie or be shy about it. I wanna bring trophies home for Atlanta, for Hip-Hop, for my Granny, Miss Bettie and her daughter and my beloved and beautiful mother, Denise,” Killer Mike said.

In September, Killer Mike released the definitive version of his acclaimed 2023 album MICHAEL DELUXE on 2xLP vinylCD, and digital. The album – now expanded to 17 tracks on the physical editions and 18 tracks digitally – arrives alongside a video for the new song “YES”. The album details were announced last week with the release of “Maynard Vignette,” a huge multi-generational Atlanta anthem with features from T.I.JID, and Jacquees, with Mike explaining that “MICHAEL was originally longer and now we’re starting to release the rest of it. These songs are some of my favorites from the album sessions, but we needed more time to get them the way we imagined them. We finished three of them in time to make the vinyl and one more for the digital.”

Killer Mike hosted a global album celebration party for his fans on his YouTube channel on the eve of the album last night where he premiered WHAT MADE MICHAEL (A Conversation with Elliott Wilson), a mini-doc where he breaks down his album and gives fans a guided tour of his upbringing in Atlanta, followed by the premiere of the music video for his new single “YES.” Mike also joined Anthony Valadez and KCRW for a special evening at Apogee Studio in Los Angeles that aired as a Morning Becomes Eclectic session yesterday to celebrate the release (watch it here). This Sunday Mike will host a Record Store Revival at Rough Trade NYC at 4pm,  an in-conversation event moderated by Carrie Colliton (Co-President of Record Store Day) followed by an album signing event for fans in attendance. The conversation from the event will also livestream via his and Rough Trade’s YouTube + META platforms, so that his fans around the world can join – tune in here.

The song signals the beginning of the next chapter for the rapper, who was just released from prison this past Wednesday, November 8th. On the track, piano pierces through thick 808s as his signature delivery rings out. About the song, Ralo revealed, “I’ve seen since I’ve been incarcerated nearly 6 years everybody choosing sides and becoming allies with one another, and I just wanted to acknowledge that fact that I chose to love over it all. I chose to love over the streets. I chose to love over everything that has happened in the world. So I wanted to highlight that because there’s a lot of wickedness going on…A lot of people trying to sabotage one another and trying to knock each other down so they can stand over the next man. I just wanted the world to know I’m satisfied, I’m humble. I’m appreciative, and I’m grateful for what I got. I’m happy with everything I’ve accomplished thus far and I hope to keep continuing to build.”

Megan Thee Stallion Sheds Her Past and Enters New Era with ‘Cobra’ Music Video

Words by: Jordyn Taylor

Megan Thee Stallion emerges from the depths of a venomous snake in her new drop, “Cobra.” In a glossy video directed by Douglas Bernardt, guitar riffs, and 808s adorn the rapper’s story about her time in the light recently and the hit her mental health has taken since.

This is her first self-funded release after her long-winded battle with her former label, 1501 Entertainment. She hit the ground running with Hot Girl Production’s first single, serving us scales,

Baring herself in the single, Megan addresses what’s been happening recently, and it’s a lot. She opens up about her depression, admitting that she has dealt with suicidal thoughts and used drinking as a coping mechanism. Visuals of snakes and characters with phones out and stone faces symbolize the eyes on her while she is alone and at her lowest.

She sang: “Every night I cried, I almost died / And nobody close tried to stop me / Long as  / everybody gettin’ paid, right? / Everything’ll be okay, right? / I’m winnin’, so nobody trippin’ / Bet if I ever fall off, everybody go missin’”.

Fans also get an inside note on what may have happened between her and rapper Pardison Fontaine.

The star rapped: ‘Pulled up, caught him cheatin’, gettin’ his d*ck sucked in the same spot I’m sleepin’’. The line points the finger at the rapper whom she broke off a three-year relationship with earlier this year.

This isn’t the first time that the Houston Hottie has spoken on mental health and her challenges. On her last album, Traumauzine, fans got closer to the rapper on tracks like “Anxiety,” noting the grief surrounding her and her late mother’s relationship.

In September of last year, she launched her mental health hub, ‘Bad Bitches Have Bad Days Too.’ The platform lists resources for free treatment, crisis hotlines, and organizations that specifically assist the Black community, including therapy for Black women and men.

Both a mental health advocate and a rapper just keeping it real, Megan Thee Stallion has the world anticipating her next singles ‘hatching’ soon.
