On that last note, he’s actually gotten quite good at replicating people’s energy who joke about their supposed wealth and popularity gap, his other romantic drama with exes, and much more. In fact, the Michigan native keeps finding new ways to even poke fun at himself and prove folks wrong at the same time. Maybe some would argue that this energy is better spent on actual career developments, which is a very valid point. But can we really blame anyone for wanting to have a little fun online, especially when people don’t hesitate to have fun about him?

Furthermore, DDG responded to fans joking that Halle Bailey bought her own Christmas gifts for herself. This was after he said that he spent $500K for this holiday in 2023, which included a diamond necklace from Tiffany and a Birkin bag. When fans started to make memes about the division, the former YouTuber leaned into them on Twitter. “i give up.. y’all figured it out,” he tweeted Wednesday (December 27). “im broke asf.. can anybody let me borrow a few thousand til next friday?”

Then, a fan asked DDG what he actually does for a living, which again, seems to become a longer list every year. “i sell weed,” he comically clapped back. “$20 a gram, $100 a 8th. i also work at foot locker at the beverly center in beverly hills. what else y’all wanna know.” Of course, the 26-year-old had to back this up with some standard flexing a couple of hours later to balance the trolling with the triumph. He posted a video of him in his car with a lot of stacks of cash, adding this challenge: “guess how much this is & i’ll send u $100.”

Beyoncé And Rihanna Were Considered For ‘The Color Purple,’ According To Oprah, Who Quickly Shut The Notion Down

The Color Purple is one of the most anticipated movies of the year. A cast featuring Danielle Brooks, H.E.R., Halle Bailey, and Fantasia is already promising on its own, but according to Oprah Winfrey, who produced the movie musical and starred in the original 1985 movie, the cast almost looked different.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Oprah revealed that Rihanna and Beyoncé were once considered for the cast, but she felt it more appropriate to give other actors an opportunity to shine.

“To be completely honest about it, if you were doing this film for $30 or $40 million, the interest in the cast would be very different,” Winfrey said. “Once the film moved to $90 to $100 million, then everybody wants us to bring Beyoncé. ‘Can you get Beyoncé or can you get Rihanna?’ So we’re sitting in a room saying, ‘Listen, we love Beyoncé. We love Rihanna, but there are other actors who can do this job.’”

Both Bey and Rihanna have had their hands full this year — Beyoncé with her Renaissance World Tour and film, and Rihanna with her fashion and make-up brands, and the birth of her newborn son. According to Oprah, their stacked schedules were taken into consideration.

May 26 marked the release of the live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid with Halle Bailey as Ariel. This casting choice left a lasting impact on young Black girls, as Bailey’s portrayal of the iconic character represented a “Black Girl Renaissance.” 

The film, directed by Rob Marshall, featured Jonah Hauer-King, Melissa McCarthy, Daveed Diggs, and Awkwafina. The Little Mermaid achieved its highest opening ever with a Black female lead, earning an estimated $97 million. 

Additionally, the singer/actress’s “Black Girl Renaissance” continued through the singer’s representation of Ariel’s hair in The Little Mermaid as Bailey reclaimed Ariel’s role. 

The creation of her Ariel hair, reportedly costing $150,000, was entrusted to Oscar-nominated hairstylist Camille Friend. After a crucial conversation with Halle, Camille understood the importance of maintaining her locs for the character.

The drama unfolded on May 30 as singer DaniLeigh was arrested in Miami for driving under the influence (DUI) and causing injury to another person. 

The R&B singer faced three felony charges, including leaving the scene of a crash involving serious bodily injury and injuring a person while driving under the influence. Her arrest sent shockwaves through the music industry.

Beyhive, Assemble: Halle Bailey Needs Help Figuring Out What The Heck To Get Beyoncé For Christmas

There’s still some time left for holiday shopping, and those of you who haven’t finished that process yet know that some people can be difficult to buy for. Then, there’s Halle Bailey’s to-buy-for list, which features Beyoncé and Oprah. What does one get for two people who can buy essentially anything they’ve ever wanted? That’s the situation Bailey faces right now, and she asked Jimmy Kimmel for some help.

Bailey was a guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live! last night (December 7) in promotion of her role in The Color Purple, and towards the end of the chat, they talked about Oprah Winfrey (a producer on the movie) and building a relationship with her. Kimmel wondered if Bailey has to buy her a Christmas present, and Bailey responded, “So that’s really hard to think about, because I’ve been thinking about all my Christmas presents I have to give this year, because there’s so many people that have helped me on this journey of this whole year: Beyoncé, now Oprah’s one of them. And it’s so hard to think of: What could you get them? Do you have any ideas? Because I don’t know.”

Kimmel had an idea ready to go quickly, but that speed came at the expense of quality: He responded, “Well, you know, everybody likes a popcorn bucket. Maybe find out what their favorite team is. Beyoncé’s from Houston, maybe get her an Astros popcorn bucket?”

After offering a couple more ideas (fancy pretzels and bath soaps), he asked Bailey how his attempts were landed and she gave a polite, “You know, they’re OK.”

A cruel twist of fate would be Bailey thinking gifts like those are beneath Beyoncé and Oprah, but it turns out they’re used to fancier things and would therefore actually appreciate a change of pace with a more humble present. For Beyoncé, it’s go big or go home. That’s how she treated her award-winning Renaissance World Tour and the same goes for the premiere of her forthcoming concert film. Although the public won’t have a chance to see it until next month, on Saturday, November 25, the Grammy Award record holder’s company, Parkwood Entertainment, held a special, chromed-out premiere at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, California.

At the premiere, the silver carpet was filled with several star-studded appearances, including card-carrying Beehive member Lizzo, Beyoncé’s musical mentees star Chlöe and Halle Bailey, Janelle Monáe, Normani, Victoria Monét, Coco Jones, and more. Thanks to clips captured by Variety, fans on social media were able to dazzle in all the over-the-top looks from the evening.

The onscreen reunion of Destiny’s Child’s longstanding members brought tears to viewers’ eyes. But the gang, including Kelly Rowland, Michelle Williams, LaToya Luckett, and LaTavia Roberson, were all present for the film’s premiere.

Several entertainers who lent their talents to the Renaissance album were in attendance as well. TS Madison and Kevin Aviance strutted their best look on the chrome carpet.

Halle Bailey joined Oprah Winfrey to begin promoting the upcoming film, The Color Purple, this week. In doing so, she rocked a blue suit and golden necklaces. “I love my glam today. We’ve got a lot of golden going on,” she said in a post on social media from behind the scenes.

When The Jasmine Brand shared a picture from the event of Bailey and Winfrey posing together, fans took note of Bailey’s apparent attempt to hide her stomach. The move comes amid rumors of her concealing a pregnancy with her boyfriend, DDG. “Lol she doing the Claire Huxtable poses on y’all! Some are too young to know what I’m talking about… Claire hid that baby bump throughout a whole season of the Cosby show,” one user commented. Another wrote: “It’s the way she’s going through such great lengths to hide her stomach that’s annoying lol….”

She recently reflected on the making of the second film adaptation of Alice Walker’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel during an interview with Cosmopolitan in October. “Set was like going to a cookout – it felt like a family reunion, honestly, like you’re surrounded by your aunties and cousins,” she said at the time. “I was just excited to be there as a fan of everyone.
