It is a bittersweet moment for Young Thug and Gunna fans. Yesterday (November 9), the dream of both rappers coming together for new music finally fizzled out.

In a now-deleted post on X (formerly Twitter), Young Thug shed light on the state of their friendship, writing: “Gunna stop acting like we friends on the internet, I don’t know u my guy.”

Now, Gunna’s brother, DP, issued a response of his own seemingly on behalf of Gunna. “Trust and believe the feeling is mutual 🅿,” wrote DP in the comment section of The Shade Room’s Instagram post (viewable here).

This revelation has drummed up confusion between Young Thug and Gunna’s overlapping supporters. After Gunna accepted a plea deal in connection to the YSL Records RICO trial, users online slammed him for being disloyal to Thug. However, Thug’s father, Big Jeff, released a statement in support of Gunna. So, Young Thug’s now-deleted comment threw fans for a loop.

Despite Big Jeff’s public remarks, online commentator Akademiks claimed that industry insiders knew Young Thug and Gunna’s relationship had soured. “I been told yall,” he wrote on X. “Thug told Durk, [Lil] Baby and a few other rappers that Gunna was no good while he was incarcerated meaning it ain’t no way he can come back out and justify rockin wit Gunna when he told n****s not to rock wit Gunna when he was locked.”

Although multiple parties have chimed in on the matter, Gunna hasn’t released a statement.

In the words of Drake, Young Thug is now a member of the tweet-and-delete crew. Today (November 9), the “Yeah Yeah” rapper took to his official page with a shocking announcement.

Following Young Thug’s recent release from custody, fans held out hope for a collaboration between him and Gunna. However, Young Thug seemingly shut down that wish on X (formerly Twitter), writing (viewable here): “Gunna stop acting like we friends on the internet, I don’t know u my guy.”

This upload blindsided supporters following reports that Young Thug requested a probation exemption to allow him to remain in contact with Gunna after his release.

Users online believe Young Thug’s remarks were in response to Gunna reposting a promotional post teasing new music from Thug in his Instagram stories (viewable here).

Shortly after Thug’s removed statement Akademiks took to his X page to double down on past speculations that there was tension among the two.

“[I] still predict Young Thug to say he was hacked in a few,” he wrote. “But, how many times he gonna tell y’all he don’t f*ck wit Gunna before y’all believe it.”

In the past Thug’s father, Big Jeff, spoke out in support of Gunna, attended Gunna’s The Bittersweet Tour, and slammed “snitch” claims pointed at Gunna.

Now, Young Thug fans are side eyeing Big Jeff and all others who have recently come out to support Gunna.

Young Thug Specifically Requested To Make Music With Gunna In Plea Deal

Young Thug had a busy Halloween. The rapper copped a plea deal and was released with 15 years probation. It was a stunningly concise resolution to a case that had worn on longer than any in Georgia history. The conditions of Thugger’s release were extensive. One of the most notable points, however, is that the rapper not not have contact with fellow YSL members. Thug accepted, but requested that two exceptions to be made to this rule. The first was his biological brother, and the second, to the shock of the internet, was Gunna.

The rapper’s lawyer, Brian Steel, pushed for Gunna to be except from his client’s conditions of release. “He’s a phenomenal artist,” the lawyer stated. “They are contractually obligated. And they frequently perform make music.” The request went through, and Thug is now legally able to record with his Gunna moving forward. Those following the YSL case may be shocked by the fact that Thug made the request at all. Gunna was part of the initial RICO indictment against YSL in May 2022.

Young Thug Allegedly Dissed Gunna Behind Bars

The rapper took a plea deal and was released from prison in December 2022. He has since continued to release commercially successful albums. His relationship with Thug, however, seemed damaged. Many believed Gunna snitched on Thug to protect himself from prison time. This resulted in the former gaining a negative reputation. Kendrick Lamar even alluded to Gunna’s reputation on his Drake diss “Euphoria.” Thugger’s last album to date, BUSINESS IS BUSINESS, has several subliminal disses littered throughout. Gunna was the obvious suspect. Even those close to Thugger, like Future, seemed to take shots at the “Pushin’ P” rapper.

Thug’s children were even more direct. They released a music video and a diss song aimed at Gunna. They went as far as to threaten to kill the YSL rapper for allegedly snitching on their father. “And Bentley a rat he keep leaving states,” the children rapped. “And Gunna get whacked if he don’t leave L.A.” Gunna dismissed the hatred, however. In April, he told XXL that his friendship with Young Thug was strong as ever. “It’s the same,” he asserted. “It’s love, always. Our relationship is our relationship.” Most fans were skeptical of this stance. Young Thug’s plea deal has validated Gunna’s claims. The world will get to hear more Thugger and Gunna music.

All those folks who spent the past couple of years calling Gunna a snitch and saying he sold out Young Thug will need to clean some egg off their faces. As part of his plea deal to secure his release, Thugger specifically asked Judge Paige Reece Whitaker to make an exception to his probation stipulation barring contact with his racketeering co-defendants: Gunna. While noting that Gunna is signed to Thug’s label, YSL Records, Thug’s attorney, Brian Steel, also reminded the court that the two frequently perform together. Thug also requested an exception for his brother Quantavious Grier, also known as Unfoonk, who is serving a nine-year sentence after accepting a plea deal of his own.

It was the plea deal accepted by Gunna that prompted suspicions that the younger rapper had “turned rat” on his mentor, with former collaborators like Lil Baby and Lil Durk deeming Gunna a snitch. Gunna addressed such accusations on his 2023 album A Gift & A Curse, while Young Thug’s father stood up for his son’s protégé, asserting that nothing he could say would harm Thug’s defense anyway. Thug’s request suggests that the two rappers are still on good terms — meaning that a follow-up to “Surf,” “Ski,” and “Pushin P” could be on the way soon.

Gunna Realizes He Was ‘Him All Along’ On The Rapper’s Confidence-Boosting New Single

Since accepting a plea deal in connection to the YSL RICO case, Gunna’s public image has taken a hit.

For some rap fans, they vow to never support him again. But the dozens of sold tour dates (Wun Of Dem Nights Tour, The Bittersweet Tour, The Gift and The Curse shows), millions of streams (One Of Wun and A Gift And A Curse), and recent collaborations with Big Sean, Offset, and Normani proves that he will be just fine without them. Still, every now, and then you need to have a pep-talk with your self in the mirror. Gunna’s latest Turbo-produced single, “Him All Along” is that confidence-boosting chat put to music.

“They was tryna stunt my growth, I was steady chasin’ my goals / N****, why you watchin’? I’m grown, n**** can’t take my throne / Goin’ through the motions, stay strong, he done been him all along / Look at all this money we done grown, lot of different places I done flown,” he raps.

This is just the sort of reassured Gunna fans want to hear especially with set to kick off his Wun Of Dem Nights Tour tomorrow in Washington, DC.

Gunna Continues His Run With New Single “Him All Along”

Gunna’s had a productive 2024. In May, he released One of Wun, his fifth studio album. He’s been featured on a litany of projects, most notably the track “Jump” from pop and amapiano star Tyla’s self-titled debut. Now, he is back with another single. Frequent collaborator Turbo produced “HIM ALL ALONG.” The beat is more mid-tempo and relaxed, which is in line with Gunna’s other releases this year. However, the bass turns the track into something that’s still ready for the car.

Lyrically, the track has a lot in common with the content found on One of Wun. The bars are self-motivational, talking about chasing his goals and putting his team on. It would not be a Gunna track without some flexing, so naturally, there’s some light flexing taking place. He talks about his imported foreign car and selling out both Barclays Center and Madison Square Garden. After the run he’s had, he has certainly earned the right to flex. At the end of the music video for One of Wun standout “today i did good,” an Easter egg implied the existence of a deluxe album. It has not come to fruition, but this track could be the teaser for a new collection of songs on the way. Until that gets announced, stream “HIM ALL ALONG” now.

Multi-platinum artist and GRAMMY-nominated rapper Big Sean has released the highly anticipated music video for “It Is What It Is,” featuring Gunna. The track is from Sean’s critically acclaimed sixth studio album Better Me Than You (Def Jam Recordings).

Directed by Diego Cruz, the video features Big Sean and Gunna performing against various urban landscapes in Los Angeles, delivering bold lyrics like, “Face all on the front page, I don’t give a f—- about no backlash / I’ve been backstabbed and laughed at / We gon’ see who gets the f—-’ last laugh.”

“It Is What It Is” is the seventh track on Better Me Than You, an album that takes listeners on a 21-track journey through themes of self-exploration, responsibility, and personal growth. The project showcases Big Sean’s lyrical depth while embracing the complexity and joy of the human experience.

Better Me Than You has received critical acclaim for its raw honesty and introspective storytelling, and the new video adds a visual dimension to the album’s standout track, blending striking visuals with Sean and Gunna’s commanding performances.

Big Sean & Gunna Encapsulate Humble Beginnings To Perfection In “It Is What It Is” Visual

The goal for Big Sean’s latest album Better Me Than You in our eyes was to promote maturity and personal growth. Overall, the project mostly succeeded in that regard outside of a few detours in the tracklist. In terms of the quality, Sean Don definitely had some flashes of pure genius, but too many times did he revert back to some things that hold him back. Some of those drawbacks included sleepier performances and some awkward singing. All in all, though, we are happy to see the Detroit native back in action and there are still a few tracks that we go back to. One of those is Big Sean’s first-ever collaboration with Gunna, “It Is What It Is.” This seems to be a favorite for most that checked out this tape and it’s easy to see why.

Sean and Gunna absolutely glide over Turbo’s Latin-esque trap blend. The topic at hand is substantial enough to keep your interest as the successful MCs remember their journeys to fame and flex on the doubters. Both drop some gems, with one being, “No time to wait, I’ma hit in this Scat, hope they payin’ attention / They try turn their back on the realest / Ain’t work, what the word on me now when you fearless?” It’s pretty evident that this track has tremendous replay value and Sean recognizes that as the visual for “It Is What It Is” is here now. Given that him and Gunna are rapping with that blue-collar mentality, them choosing a decrepit-looking freight train station was a smart move. It’s a lowkey video, but it really needs nothing more.
