The Weeknd Pledges $2 Million to Provide 18 Million Loaves of Bread for Gaza Humanitarian Support

Weeknd Dawn FM

Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye, through his XO Humanitarian Fund, just pledged to donate $2 million to humanitarian support in Gaza. His donation aims to supply 18 million loaves of bread to support families under threat of starvation in the war-ravaged enclave.

Teaming up with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), The Weeknd’s pledge will facilitate the distribution of 1,500 metric tons of fortified wheat flour, benefiting over 157,000 Palestinians. This donation follows his philanthropic gesture in December 2023, where he contributed $2.5 million, providing food parcels to feed 173,000 Palestinians for two weeks. Additionally, The Weeknd encouraged his fans to contribute to the cause and support those in need in Gaza.

This philanthropic move adds to The Weeknd’s growing list of charitable endeavors. Earlier this year, he donated to the Los Angeles-based organization School on Wheels, aiding over 1,000 students experiencing homelessness. Over recent years, he has contributed millions of dollars to various charitable causes, including support for Ethiopia, Lebanon, and Covid relief efforts.

Corinne Fleischer, WFP’s Director for the Middle East, North Africa, and Eastern Europe Region, expressed sincere gratitude for The Weeknd’s compassionate support, highlighting its crucial role in relieving thousands of Palestinian families facing daily hunger. Barron Segar, president and CEO of World Food Program USA, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the solvability of hunger with adequate funding and access, made possible by The Weeknd’s commitment.

The Weeknd Makes Another Massive Food Donation To Gaza

While many celebrities have been afraid to discuss the ongoing conflict in Palestine, some have chosen to put their money where their mouths are. In the months since the conflict began outspoken celebs have attended protest events, made public outcries to their fanbase, or made large donations to relief efforts for the victims of the war. The latter is what The Weeknd did back in December when he donated 4 million meals to help feed those displaced and starved by the violence. Now he’s once again making a substantial financial donation to the cause.

He’s contributed another $2 million to relief efforts. It came from his XO humanitarian fund and took the form of 18 million loaves of bread. A statement released today reveals that the bread can be used to feed 157,000 Palestinians for a month. “We are very grateful for Abel’s continued support as WFP works to respond to the urgent hunger crisis in Gaza. Hunger is a human-made problem, and as such, it is solvable. We have enough food in this world to feed everyone; all we need is the funding and safe access to make it happen. Thanks to Abel’s designation, families and children will receive the food they so desperately need,” the president of the World Food Program said in a statement announcing the donation.

The Weeknd Donates 18 Million Loaves Of Bread To Gaza

The Weeknd recently appeared on two of the biggest rap records of the year so far, Future & Metro Boomin’s WE DON’T TRUST YOU and WE STILL DON’T TRUST YOU. Fans think that on the latter he may have taken shots at Drake. It’s something Kendrick Lamar, Kanye West, Metro Boomin, and Rick Ross have all done recently. If he did aim at his former collaborator, it was in a much less direct way.

What do you think of The Weeknd making yet another massive donation to relief efforts for the conflict in Palestine? Do you think more fans will follow in his footsteps and make donations of their own? Let us know in the comment section below.

D.L. Hughley Calls Out DJ Khaled’s Silence On War In Gaza Despite His Palestinian Roots

D.L. Hughley recently spoke with Jason Lee of Hollywood Unlocked, and their conversation ranged across a lot of topics. However, one of the most salient and notable points of their interview emerged through the topic of DJ Khaled. Moreover, Hughley believes that Khaled has completely and erroneously ignored the conflict between Israel and Palestine that is resulting in all-out war. For those unaware, the We The Best Music mogul’s family is from Palestine, and despite his constant presence on social media, he’s yet to really speak out about this mass and deliberate loss of life in the region with his huge platform.

“So, I’ll see you exalting God when you make a shot,” D.L. Hughley remarked concerning DJ Khaled’s typical social media activity in contrast to what other people are saying about the war in Gaza online. “But I’ll watch a seven-year-old Palestinian boy who is praying to God for the strength to bear that his family had been killed. I’ll watch you pray to not hit a bunker and then I will watch a Palestinian family pray that they can find one.

Then, the stand-up comedian referenced a recent viral video of DJ Khaled’s security guards carrying him over sand so he wouldn’t get his Jordans dirty. “We’re used to Palestinians being carried,” he said. “They’re just not alive. They’re dead and they don’t have shoes, they don’t even have feet. To me, you have gone from DJ Khaled to DJ Callous. You cannot be so oblivious that you forget that the images that you are portraying have an equal and opposite effect. And what it tells people is that if somebody that looks like them doesn’t care, why should you?”

According to CNN, over 32,000 people have died so far in this recent resurgence of the centennial conflict, with the great majority being Palestinian civilians in Gaza. The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Human Affairs posited that 576,000 of Gaza’s residents, a quarter of their population, are “one step away from famine,” with food crises and lack of proper medical care and mobility affecting the entire region. Many in the entertainment world continue to advocate for a ceasefire and to rebuild after this destruction. For more news and updates on D.L. Hughley and DJ Khaled, check back in with HNHH.

Elon Musk Considers Dating App Feature For X, Promises Starlink For Gaza

As Twitter/X’s stock and credibility continue to plummet, Elon Musk continues to throw out random ideas to magically fix the website. His latest “genius” move? Adding a dating app feature. According to a source who attended an all-hands meeting at X, Musk wants a full-integrated dating app to the site next year. However, according to Insider, details on how the feature would work are fuzzy. Despite this, Musk is very keen on the idea and has his usual notions that it’s the thing that will save the site.

Meanwhile, Musk also promised to provide Gaza with access to his Starlink satellites. Starlink is the satellite internet provider that Musk owns. It operates all over the world and was used in Ukraine, until the Russia-supporting Musk pulled access to the service. However, Israel has publicly objected the support. Israel will use all means at its disposal to fight this. HAMAS will use it for terrorist activities. There is no doubt about it, we know it, and musk knows it. HAMAS is ISIS. Perhaps Musk would be willing to condition it with the release of our abducted babies, sons, daughters, elderly people. All of them! By then, my office will cut any ties with starlink,” Israeli Communications Minister Shlomo Kahri wrote on X.

Israel-Palestine: Latest Updates

The conflict between Israel and Palestine is entering its fourth week. As the death toll nears 10,000, Israeli tanks and ground forces were seen entering the Gaza Strip. Furthermore, over 8000 of the dead are Palestinians, with thousands of children among the dead. This comes after several days of relentless bombing by the Israeli Air Force. The intense bombing was preceded by a total communication blackout for the embattled enclave. Furthermore, Israeli rhetoric has intensified, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu saying that the war was for “Israel’s existence”.

Furthermore, despite Israel claiming that the war was to eradicate the militant group Hamas, violence has intensified in the West Bank. The West Bank is the other enclave that forms Palestine and is not controlled by Hamas. 110 Palestinians are believed to have been killed in the West Bank at the time of writing. Meanwhile, the Palestinian Red Cross have stated that the latest Israeli airstrikes have caused significant damage to Gaza’s largest hospital. Despite Israel ordered the hospital to be evacuated, multiple sources have said that the demand is impossible to execute.

Here’s The Death Toll From The Israel Music Festival Attack

Tensions between Israel and Hamas have continued to grow. Over the weekend, after the former declared war following a massive attack, “Uptown Funk” singer Bruno Mars was forced to cancel the second day of his concert in Tel Aviv’s Park HaYarkon due to safety concerns. The 2023 Tribe Of Nova Festival, held on October 7 in southern Israel, was attacked by militant forces.

Reports in the region are still gathering the facts as outlets verify the gruesome footage shared on social media. What is known so far? Outlets such as CBC and CNN have reported the death toll from the Israel music festival attack, confirming that at least 260 people have been recovered from festival grounds. As of Monday, October 9, the total number of attendees has not been revealed.

During U2’s recent concert at The Sphere in Las Vegas, frontman and Nobel Peace Prize nominee Bono offered his condolences to the people, families, and other loved ones of those affected by the attack.

“In the light of what’s happened in Israel and Gaza, a song about non-violence seems somewhat ridiculous, even laughable, but our prayers have always been for peace and for non-violence,” Bono told the crowd. “But our hearts and our anger, you know where that’s pointed. So sing with us… and those beautiful kids at that music festival. It was a festival of music and peace. A festival of music and peace. Can you imagine?”

Bruno Mars is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.
