tulsa mass shooting

Police say the suspected Tulsa mass shooter complained to his surgeon, Dr. Preston Phillips hours before killing him on the Saint Francis Hospital campus. Tulsa Police Chief Wendell Franklin says the gunman, Michael Louis recently had back surgery and was upset with his doctor because he was still in pain.

Louis was armed with an AR-style rifle, which he used to kill two doctors, a patient, and a receptionist on Wednesday. He then took his own life. According to authorities police say he bought the assault-style rifle the same day as the shooting. A note found on Louis spelled out that his intent was to kill Dr. Phillips, and was furious because there was still pain after his back surgery.

Chief Franklin says it took officers longer than usual to find the suspected shooter because of how big the floor of the hospital was. He said the suspect began firing as soon as he entered the building. One of the victims died holding the back door of the hospital open so others could escape.

Oklahoma Senator James Lankford released a statement saying he’s heartbroken and praying for the families of the victims that were taken during yesterday’s attack. Governor Kevin Stitt called the shooting an act of senseless violence and hatred. Stitt also ordered all flags in Oklahoma to half-staff to honor the victims.

After awaiting trial in the Dekalb County Jail since his federal arrest for marijuana trafficking in 2018, 1017 artist Ralo, whose real name is Terrell Davis , can breathe a sigh of relief after being sentenced to eight years in federal prison.

Why? Well, after the time served granted by a federal judge and Ralo receiving his anticipated good time, which could be up to a year and a half, the accused drug trafficker and ATL mainstay could see the streets as early as next year.

On an IG post from Ralo’s verified account, where the news of his sentence was also confirmed, an update on the sentence handed down said, “He was recommended 1 year ankle monitor after the halfway house approve his home address; which will bring him home to us late next year, but our goal is for him to complete his GED or RDAP Drug program so we can get another year off his sentence. That will bring him home to us in less than a year. We need prayer.”

Today In Hip Hop History: Ja Rule Dropped His ‘Venni Vetti Vecci’ Album 23 Years Ago

On this day in Hip Hop history, Queens rapper Ja Rule released his debut LP Venni Vetti Vicci. As the first release ofrom Irv Gotti‘s Murder Inc. record label, this project carried a lot of weight on its shoulders as the breakthrough for not only Ja Rule’s career but the career and integrity of Murder Inc Records as a whole.

Fortunately enough, the album was a hit and launched Ja Rule and Murder Inc. up among the ranks of some of New York’s most respected and successful rappers. Ja Rule’s force, style, and energy blended perfectly with and help grow the popularity of the East Coast hardcore movement that was taking place in the late 90s and early 2000s.

The mix of high energy, club jam production and hardcore gangster lyricism is what made this album so appealing. Although it could be said that Ja Rule wasn’t the greatest with the pen, the party appeal of this project kept it flying off the shelves in record stores across the country. The album’s commercial reception was more than any one could ask for a debut album peaking at #1 on the Billboard R&B/Hip Hop chart and #3 on the Billboard 200 chart all while going platinum in the year of its release.
