Lizzo Changes Offensive “GRRRLS” Lyric, Issues Apology

Lizzo comments

Lizzo faced backlash for her new song “GRRRLS.” Immediately upon releasing the song last week, disability advocates urged her via social media that she was using an “ableist slur.”

The “Tempo” singer is being accused of using an offensive term for someone with cerebral palsy. In the original version, the 31-year-old chants “Hold my bag bi**h. Hold my bag. Do you see this sh*t? I’ma spazz.”

According to The Cambridge Dictionary, “spaz” is “an offensive way of saying ‘a stupid person.’”

Also adding the word is “(short for ‘spastic’) an offensive way of referring to someone who has cerebral palsy (a condition of the body that makes it difficult to control the muscles).”

“GRRRLS” is the Houston natives second pre-release single ahead of her upcoming album Special.  That project is due out July 15.  Lizzo also kicks off a North American tour starting in September.

The lyrics have been updated, “Hold my bag, bi**h, hold my bag. Do you see this sh*t? Hold me back.”

Defense of Nipsey Hussle’s Murder Suspect Argues Killing Not Premeditated “Case Of Heated Passion”

Nipsey Hussle Marathon

Opening statements took place Wednesday in the trial of the man accused of killing Nipsey Hussle, born Ermias Joseph Asghedom. Hussle was shot in 2019 outside of his Los Angeles clothing store,The Marathon at the age of 33.

A jury which was selected on Monday will hear the case against accused killer, 32-year-old, Eric Ronald Holder Jr. Deputy District Attorney John McKinney says Hussle accused Holder of snitching the day of the murder. Holder returned to the scene minutes later, shooting the beloved rapper eleven times.

McKinney stated during his opening statement there’s “no doubt” the suspect knew in advance that he would kill Hussle. “He clearly thought about what he was going to do before he did it.”

He then described the sequence of events, including showing jurors horrific videos and photos of the shooting.

Holder’s defense Attorney Aaron Jansen said the first-degree murder and attempted murder charges are excessive. Jansen argued the killing was not premeditated, and the shooting of the other two men present were not Eric Holder’s intention. Holder faces life in prison if convicted.

Attorney Jansen told jurors in the opening statements that Holder was “triggered” from being called a snitch and “didn’t have time to cool off” before he gunned down Hussle. Adding, “this is a case of heated passion.”

There is speculation that Holder’s defense will make his mental health an issue during his trial. Jansen has said previously “One of the things affecting him [in March 2019] was that his mother had just passed away. He was pretty despondent.”

Holder fled the scene after firing multiple shots at the “Victory Lap” rapper. Caught on surveillance, he was arrested two days later.

Nipsey Hussle left behind his daughter Emani Asghedom, 13 and son Kros Ermias Asghedom, 5 with whom he shares with actor, and longtime partner Lauren London. He won two Grammys almost a year after his murder. Hussle was signed to Jay-Z’s RocNation.

E.W. Brooks Scores Victory Over Damon Dash and Poppington As ‘Mafietta Photo Case’ Is Dismissed

Screen Shot 2022 06 17 at 9.16.12 AM

United States Federal Judge, the Honorable Jed Rakoff has dismissed the revenge lawsuit filed by Damon Dash’s girlfriend, Raquel Horn and Dash’s company, Poppingtion LLC. Dash and Horn were pursuing copyright infringement against author E.W. Brooks in the Southern District of New York.

EWBrooksbrownr

After the victory Brooks stated, ““The frivolous attempt of Dash’s company and Ms. Horn’s  to hold Ms. Brooks liable for copyright infringement has been summarily rejected” said Christopher Brown of Brown & Rosen LLC. “To sue Ms. Brooks for using her own Mafietta movie imagery as her Mafietta book cover, was rather foolish.”

Dash is also accused of trying to edge Brooks out of her own project by doing what he wants with “Mafietta” without her input. The film is available for viewing on DameDashStudios.com without any credit to Brooks, and she says he didn’t get her permission to put the film on the site. He’s also cut off all communication with her, including blocking her on social media.

“Despite the actions of Damon Dash, I am proud to announce that “Mafietta 2” will be filming in Atlanta, Ga  from June 28-July 6, 2022. Claudia Jordan (Cocktails with Queens/Fox Soul, star of the film “Dear Frank”) and Willie Taylor  of Day 26 (and the “Chocolate City” movie franchise) will star in “Mafietta 2” and play the lead roles.  I will continue to make my dreams come.”
