Three decades ago today, Chi Ali released his first and only album The Fabulous Chi-Ali. Chi-Ali first appeared on De La Soul’s single “Say No Go” and on Black Sheep’s debut album, A Wolf In Sheep’s Clothing featured on “Pass the 40”. Chi Ali at the time was a core member of Native Tongues, a New York City-based hip-hop collective, and also had connections with the Legion family, along with Showbiz and A.G.

In 1992, Chi-Ali released his first solo single, “Age Ain’t Nothing But a #”, which was a moderate hit and reached #6 in the US Hot Rap Singles chart. The song was popular on urban radio stations, and the music video received good rotation on Yo! MTV Raps and Rap City. The album in which the song was featured was released shortly thereafter, which yielded two other singles; “Roadrunner” and “Funky Lemonade,” which were both remixed and re-recorded.

In the late 1990s, Chi-Ali appeared on Dres’s solo album, Sure Shot Redemption, and began featuring with other artists. His most recent collabo was with Jadakiss on a song entitled “G-Check”.

On January 14, 2000, Chi-Ali shot and killed a man during an argument in The Bronx. He was later arrested in 2001 for the death of his girlfriend’s brother, Sean Raymond, after spending a year evading police and even appeared on an episode of America’s Most Wanted. Chi-Ali hid in numerous East Coast cities until he was apprehended on March 5, 2001, in New York City and was subsequently convicted of the killing and served a 12-year bid at Sing Sing Correctional Facility.

An unbelievable prison escape was caught on camera as video shows a Colombian drug lord breaking out of La Picota Jail in Bogotá by simply walking out wearing a prison guard uniform and he is still on the lam.

Juan Castro aka “Matamba” was on the verge of being extradited to the U.S. when he came up with the brilliant plan of dressing up as a guard and walking out of the facility. His escape was so discreet, it wasn’t noticed that he was missing until the next day.

Since the escape, prison director Juan Gordillo and all 55 guards who were working at the time of the escape have been suspended. The prison guard suspected of giving Castro his uniform has been arrested.

Thousands are signing a petition to remove Kanye West from the Coachella lineup. The “Eazy” rapper is set to headline day three of the well-known music festival.

The Change-dot-org document was posted in response to Ye’s relentless targeting of his estranged ex-wife Kim Kardashian and boyfriend Pete Davidson, among others.

West was suspended from Instagram for 24 hours last week for posting racial slurs under a photo of “Daily Show” host Trevor Noah.

He was also removed from the Grammys lineup due to his “concerning online behavior.”

There’s no word yet on if he will, in fact, be removed from the festival.

With the shocking consistency of rappers going to jail, being shot, and worse, Bay Area legend Too Short appeared on Club Shay Shay with Shannon Sharpe to talk about the downside of rap wars in the streets.

Short Dog says that the incarceration and/or death of a rapper hurts not only the artist but the people around him that have now been provided a way out of their otherwise bleak circumstances.

“That’s why I think we’re losing a lot of rappers, because, you know, chop it off at the head. That’s the bread and butter,” Short said. “When you gun down the rapper, you just gunned down five other employees’ income; you just gunned down school kids’ clothes, Christmas, a dope birthday that was going to happen.”
