Irv Gotti Says JAY-Z Carried Roc-A-Fella

Irv Gotti says that JAY-Z didn’t need any help with the success of Roc-A-Fella and that Dame Dash was just “along for the ride.” He spoke about the iconic record label during a recent appearance on the Drink Champs podcast.

“I don’t think Jay likes Dame,” Irv Gotti said during the interview. “Did I say something that people don’t know already?” From there, he added: “Jay didn’t need nobody. [Dame Dash] started Roc-A-Fella with Jay and Biggs, so he should get credited. I’m saying the making of the records, I don’t know what you want me to say. Jay didn’t need nobody. Jay was picking the beats, Jay was rapping over the beats, Jay was making things. It was all Hov. Dame was along for the ride. It was a great ride.”

The topic of JAY-Z and Dame Dash arose while discussing the Book of Hov exhibit at the Brooklyn Public Library. N.O.R.E. referenced rumores that Dame Dash’s name was allegedly removed from the event. “Our goal, with The Book of Hov tribute exhibition, is to provide a behind-the-scenes look at a Hall of Fame songwriter and performer, successful business person, and a consequential philanthropist who has never forgotten the lessons he learned on the road to success,” a statement on the exhibition’s website reads. “And the borough where his journey began.” The exhibit will run through October of this year.

Irv Gotti Praises JAY-Z

JAY-Z and Dame Dash’s relationship has had rocky moments several times over the years. In 2021, JAY-Z and Roc-A-Fella Records sued Dame Dash over an attempt to sell Reasonable Doubt, as an NFT. Elsewhere in his appearance on Drink Champs, Gotti discussed working with Nas, the YSL case, and much more. Check out the interview above.

Irv Gotti Says He Still Has Beef With Fat Joe: “He Never Apologized”

Irv Gotti says he still has an issue with Fat Joe despite the Bronx rapper claiming that they put their dispute to bed, last year. While appearing on the latest episode of Drink Champs, Gotti discussed the state of their relationship. Joe previously called Gotti out for being “disrespectful” to Ashanti.

“Fat Joe was my brother; I do not feel Fat Joe is my brother anymore,” Gotti explained on the podcast. “I guess it’s a Cancer trait because once you show me who you are or speak negatively about me, it’s over. His defense and [Ja Rule’s] defense is they do shows with Ashanti … but Rule would never come out and say Gotti’s a sucka.”

“Fat Joe said, ‘Oh, Gotti’s a sucka.’ I gotta pull back and regress from that because if I was to go respond or anything with that, it could get cr*zy,” he continued. “He never apologized. He was on some, ‘If I’m you’re brother, I should be able to tell you when you wrong.’ But my thing is like, ‘N***a, you don’t even know what went on with me and Ashanti.’ So for you to say anything is cr*zy because you don’t know what the hell went on with me and her. Rule knew, he was there. That’s why all my n****s never said nothing.”

Irv Gotti Sits Down With N.O.R.E.

From there, N.O.R.E. asked about Joe claiming that the two made amends and noted that he saw a picture of them together. “Yeah, we’ve probably seen each other; I don’t know about all that speaking,” Gotti replied. “I don’t really need friends. You know why? I really enjoy chilling with Nee Nee, my mother. I really enjoy chilling with my family. I really enjoy being around the people who I know care and love me the right way. I don’t need you, n***a. I’m a sucka? You need to get away from me … Fat Joe was once someone who I thought was family.” Elsewhere in the interview, Gotti discusses the YSL case, working with artists like JAY-Z and Nas, founding Murder Inc. Records, and more.

Irv Gotti Says JAY-Z Put in All the Work for Roc-a-Fella: ‘Dame Was Along for the Ride’

Irv Gotti Says Fat Joe is No Longer His Brother Due to Defense of Ashanti

Irv Gotti returned to Drink Champs this past week, and the topic turned to his history with Roc-A-Fella records. When asked if he was in The Book of Hov, Gotti says he didn’t see it but believes Dame Dash was removed.

“I don’t think Jay likes Dame,” Gotti opened. “Did I say something that people not know already?”

He added, “Jay didn’t need nobody. Jay don’t need nobody.”

DJ EFN asked if believes Dash didn’t have any involvement in the Roc’s success, to which he said no. “He started Roc-a-Fella with Jay and Biggs, so he should get credited. I’m saying the making of the records, I don’t know what you want me to say. Jay was picking the bets. Jay was rapping over the beats. It was all HOV. Dame was along for the ride. It was a great ride.”

Irv Gotti Discusses Gunna, Drake, And Ashanti On “Drink Champs”

Irv Gotti was the latest guest to hit up Drink Champs, joining N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN to cover a whole host of topics. One of the biggest matters on the table was Ashanti’s recent reunion with Nelly. In his last appearance on the show, Gotti had alleged a relationship with Ashanti but appeared to walk back at least some of his comments about her. “She’s done. She’s fucking done with me. No one’s sitting around thinking… ‘Oh, but she still looks great. You ain’t want her when you seen that last picture?’ I mean this with all respect to women… I get some of the most baddest b**ches you will ever [see] in your life, and they not Ashanti. Black, white, Latina; I get bad bitches.”

Gotti also addressed his previous Ashanti comments being called out by Fat Joe. “Fat Joe was my brother. I do not feel Fat Joe is my brother anymore. His defense and Ja’s defense is they do shows with Ashanti, but Rule will never come out and say, ‘Gotti’s a sucker.’ Fat Joe said, ‘Oh, Gotti’s a sucker.’ I gotta pull back and regress from that. If I was to go respond or anything with that, it could get crazy.”

Gotti Speaks On Gunna And Drake

He also addressed Gunna’s plea deal in the YSL case and the subsequent allegations of snitching that have followed the rapper. “Once you start taking plea deals, you’re working with them. They came to me, ‘You want to say anything [about] Preme?’ I told them n**gas, ‘Suck my dick,’” Gotti shared. “N*ggas ain’t cut from that. Some part of me would be like, ‘Yeah, to each his own. Do what’s best for your life.’ Do what’s best for your life, dog. But me, I just can’t.”

Elsewhere, he said that he would pick Drake over Jay-Z as the best rapper ever. “I think Drake is the biggest artist in the world, but I do think it’s time for someone else. I don’t view Hov like how I view Drake. Drake still makes music; Hov is not making no music,” Irv Gotti said. “Last time I spoke to Hov, he said, ‘Gotti, I gave it all I had.’ That was his way of telling me he’s out.” Be sure to watch the full interview at the link below.

Jim Jones Reflects On Meeting Kevin Gates: “I Just Felt His Energy”

During a recent conversation on the Drink Champs podcast, Jim Jones reflected on meeting Kevin Gates for the first time. Apparently, he had no choice but to meet the rapper, who was freshly out of prison at the time. According to Jones, he refused to even consider signing to Cash Money otherwise. Ultimately the artist went with Atlantic instead, but at least he got to meet one of his idols.

“Shoutout to Kevin Gates,” Jones started the story. “One of them called me like, ‘Yo, Birdman tryna sign this artist. His name is Kevin Gates and he just came home from jail. He the biggest thing going, and Birdman tryna sign him, but we got one problem: he’s not going to sign to Birdman unless he meets Jim Jones.’” Ultimately, Jones decided to do Birdman a solid and meet with the up-and-coming artist.

Jim Jones Says Kevin Gates Insisted On Meeting Him

“I was like, ‘What?’ They was like, ‘Yeah, he in the city right now. Can we bring him to you? ‘Cause Birdman needs to sign this artist.’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, tell him to pull up.’ Kevin Gates pull up. He still had on the khakis, still looking like he was fresh out of jail. I just felt his energy.” Jones says that upon meeting the artist, he knew right away that he belonged. They also went on to work on some music that evening, fulfilling Gates’ demands. “You knew he was one of us. Like, he came from the same places we came from and things like that. We sat in there. Did five records that night. Then after that, Cash Money got to do business with him.”

Though Kevin Gates didn’t end up signing to Cash Money, the encounter with Birdman early in his career still shaped his path in some ways. In an interview with VladTV in 2014, he revealed that Birdman had a major influence on him. Apparently, he even inspired him to start his own label, Bread Winners’ Association. “That’s gonna always be my family,” he said of Birdman, “for what he told me, what he taught me.”

Jim Jones Praises Pusha T Amid Ongoing Feud

Jim Jones spoke highly of Pusha T while discussing their ongoing feud during a recent appearance on the Drink Champs podcast. He labeled the Clipse rapper a “dope artist” and said that he’s excited to hear a response to his latest diss track.

“Shout out to Pusha T, [a] very dope artist everybody knows he’s a monster when it comes to music I can’t take nothing away from him,” he stated. Jones added that he’s happy to engage with such a talented artist; however, he wants to know when he can expect a reply to his latest diss track. “Who knows what he might come up with, he’s very crafty and s**t like that,” he said. “Some people react off top, some people take years to come back. I seen n****s had beef and wait years to try and kill a n***a.”

Jones also discussed his reaction to Pusha T’s initial diss on an unreleased Clipse song that premiered at Paris Fashion Week. “For the most part it was dope and it was cute,” Jones said. Despite the compliment, he also spoke highly of his own response, “The Summer Collection.” “I put a response out there I think it was pretty crafty,” he said. As for another diss song from Pusha, he’s currently busy working with No Malice and hopes to release another Clipse album. Perhaps a response could make the tracklist for that effort.

Jim Jones Sits Down With N.O.R.E.

Jim Jones Mourns Takeoff On “Drink Champs”

Iconic New York rapper Jim Jones once again returned to the Drink Champs studio to chop it up with N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN. There was a lot on the table, which is fitting for a man of Jones’ reputation. One of the topics was Jones helping kickstart Kid Cudi’s career. “What’s the dude that sings ‘Day ‘N’ Nite’? You know how he got his stardom? Dudes wanted to direct a video for me at the time. I was like, ‘Shit, let me see some of the videos y’all directed.’ He was on the roof looking crazy and shit. I’m like, ‘I’ll let y’all do the video if y’all tell this kid [to] give me his beat, so I can remix this record,’” Jones recalled. “Somebody ripped it off the internet from HOT 97…That’s how Kid Cudi ended up getting his deal.”

He also took time to address the rise of Michael Rubin’s White Party. “No disrespect to Michael Rubin, and this is not about that. It’s about the power that we have that he’s tapping into ‘cause he knows we have that power. We need Diddy to come back out. The Black Party. It’s not even about a Black or white thing. It’s just that we have the power to do the same type of things.”

Jones Mourns Takeoff

However, the most emotional part of the interview came during a discussion of Migos. Jones reportedly recorded the final Migos track, “We Set The Trends”, before Takeoff’s tragic passing. “Yeah. RIP, Takeoff. I’ll miss your soul, baby boy. He was just a great person, I had a great relationship with him,” Jones stated. “It would make me feel good to know that someone like Takeoff was giving me my flowers. We came to the studio in LA. He said, ‘Where you at? I’m pulling up.’ We in the studio, he’s like, ‘Nah, we gotta get on, Unc.’ [The] producer started playing beats. He’s like, ‘This it. This it.’ He did his hook, and he did his verse, and then I did a verse. Then I was like, ‘Nah, I gotta come back and fix my shit tomorrow,’” the artist continued.

Elsewhere, Jones played coy about his beef with Pusha T. “Shout out to Pusha T, very dope artist. Everybody knows he’s a monster when it comes to doing music. I can’t take nothing away from him,” Jim Jones explained. The Harlem rapper continued, “I know everybody seen everything that was going on inside the media and the internet. I believe it was cool. For one time in my life, I got to engage in some verbal warfare, and it don’t have to go beyond that.” Be sure to watch the full episode, now live on YouTube.

Akon Wore Fake Dior On “Drink Champs” Interview For Clicks, He Admits

Akon’s known to sometimes twist the truth for the sake of more engagement online, down to the details of his fit. Moreover, a lot of people noticed his fake Dior “Drio” jacket for his interview on N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN’s Drink Champs. While this isn’t an outright lie, it did prompt people to question whether this was a legitimate choice or if he just never noticed that the letters were flipped. Regardless, we now know, at least according to the Senegal-raised artist, this was all part of the plan to garner more interest in his interview. When speaking to French Montana, he answered his question about the jacket in earnest (hopefully).

“I knew I knew that s**t was going to raise engagement,” Akon responded to French Montana’s style inquiries. Furthermore, the 50-year-old singer said that he got the jacket from “one of [his] Africans.” “It just takes for one person to notice, and it’s gone’ go cr*zy on the internet,” he continued. “It sure did exactly what we wanted it to.” It’s ironic because, in a previous instance, Akon gifted French a fake watch that he got scammed for.

French Montana Presses Akon Over “Drio” Jacket

During that Drink Champs interview, the hitmaker also joked about how he would lie about being an African prince. “I used the excuse that I was a survivor, because it made me feel better about it,” Akon confessed. “But there was nothing for me to survive. Because my parents was actually really wealthy. I was living in New Jersey. We lived in a three-story house, just me and my older brother. So when I think about it, we were just bored as hell.

“I think a lot of my choices came from wanting to be accepted, you know?” he continued. “So that’s how I got caught into all the things that I got caught into, including cars. Because cars made me feel special. I was young, I could drive with the most elite vehicles, and I ran with the scenario that I was an African prince. After Coming to America, I was like, ‘S***iiit!’ That’s what motivated it!” For more news and the latest updates on Akon, keep checking in with HNHH.

Verzuz Battle With The LOX Gave Jim Jones COVID-19

During a new episode of the Drink Champs podcast, Jim Jones speaks on his previous Verzuz battle against The LOX. They famously battled it out in NYC in 2021. Unfortunately for Jones, an L isn’t the only thing he caught that night. In a preview of the new episode, Jones says that he also contracted COVID-19. “I caught Covid after the Verzuz,” he explained. “That was the only time I got Covid. The LOX gave me Covid. On top of everything that night, they gave me Covid. I couldn’t win for nothing.

Earlier this year, Jim Jones also revealed that he wants Dipset to have another go at the trio. “I don’t think that energy will ever be duplicated outside of New York unless we go for the rematch, you heard?” he explained. “Last time, there was a lot going on. The venue was way too small. There were people on my back. There were people on people’s shoulders in there.”

Jim Jones Contracted COVID-19 From Verzuz Battle

Though it hasn’t been confirmed, fans would certainly look forward to a rematch. The battles are scheduled to pick back up again next month, when Diddy takes on Jermaine Dupri at Madison Square Garden. Swizz Beatz has previously hinted at a potential rematch, so it’s not completely off the table. COVID-19 seemed to hit Jim Jones pretty hard, based on his social media posts. He shared the news with his followers in August of 2021.

“I urge everybody to stay safe out there,” he began, “COVID is real.” “I was runnin’ ’round here thinking I was Superman and COVID knocked the socks off Superman,” he continued. “So I urge and encourage everybody to please continue to mask up, please continue with hand sanitizer, social distance as much as you can, try to stay away from as many packed and crowded places. This sh*t is no joke. I really felt it and I don’t want nobody to feel like how I felt.”
