Erykah Badu Reflects On J. Dilla’s Greatness

Erykah Badu is currently on her “Unfollow Me” tour with rapper Yasiin Bey (formerly known as Mos Def). During her stop in San Diego, CA, she opened up about her musical relationship with the late J Dilla. Via Detroit rapper Frank Nitt’s Insta feed, she talked about the rap producer at length. “He didn’t really talk a lot,” Erykah said when a fan asked about what it was like to work with him. “He was very quiet… [Communicated] through the music, mostly.”

She also called J Dilla “super organized.” She referenced a detail that all of J Dilla’s Coca-Cola cans in his fridge were aligned so the logo was facing out. Dilla was an engineer through and through, and it showed. Erykah continues by saying he was generous and merciful. He taught people in the music industry, but Erykah Badu also says he would let others get away with stuff. “Like, he let a lot of people get away with, like, biting his sh*t,” Badu says. J Dilla died in 2006 from lupus complications. But his resolve impressed Erykah: “This is the most important thing; he was sick, but nobody knew. That speaks volumes.”

J Dilla was a tremendous hip-hop producer. His career, which started in the ’90s, included collaborating with A Tribe Called Quest and Common. He became a part of the Soulquarians collective, with Erykah Badu also being a member. Mama’s Gun, Badu’s second album from 2000, features the track “Didn’t Cha Know.” Dilla produced that track for his collective teammate, creating a solid friendship built around music. Recently, Logic claimed he had an entire album full of J Dilla beats that he eventually scrapped.

Erykah Badu’s “Unfollow Me” Tour is speaking to the current rampant cancel culture. Breaking down the meaning with VIBE a few weeks back, the Neo Soul artist lets her fans know if they don’t agree with what she says, then they should simply unsubscribe. “Whenever someone says something in the comments, they don’t agree; I don’t care, unfollow me, doesn’t matter.” She says she’s on a journey and that her audience is on their own journey, and that that’s all okay. The tour will conclude in late July in San Antonio, TX.

Ray Lewis III Died Of Overdose, Police Suspect

Ray Lewis III, the late son of NFL legend Ray Lewis, died of a suspected overdose, according to a police report obtained by ESPN on Saturday. Police officers were called to a home in Central Florida on Wednesday, where they found him unconscious in a bedroom. The former college football player was just 28 years old at the time of his death.

“The evidence and witness accounts show this incident to be a tragic accident,” police said in a statement. Police also noted that someone was attempting to perform CPR on Lewis when they arrived. Gucci Mane Plans To Take A “Breath Of Fresh Air” With New Album

In a recent interview with Zane Lowe for New Music Daily, Gucci Mane discussed his upcoming album, Breath Of Fresh Air. Gucci Mane says he’d like to turn over a new leaf, claiming that the deaths of various peers inspired the change. He plans to explore a new, more vulnerable side of himself on the LP, showing others that there’s more to rap than just “extravagance.” Breath Of Fresh Air is slated for release on October 13, 2023. He dropped the album’s first single, “Bluffin,” today alongside Lil Baby.

“Ever since, I guess November of when Dolph passed away and my artist Scarr passing away and TakeOff passing away and Pooh locked up and Foo locked up, that’s why I kind of named my album a Breath of Fresh Air,” the rapper explained. He went on to describe how he plans to set a better example with his next release. “I just, like I said, let me just try to be the person … I’m just not in the mood to hear a whole bunch of drilling and killing and this and that and not saying that I haven’t did that before, but just right now, just let me just kind of lead by example and show people that it is more to rap about than my opps and all that.”

“You can rap about going out to eat with your girl or your wife. And that’s what all the songs are about. I’m not saying all about the same thing, but that’s what I’m kind of trying to get off. And a lot of artists I see rap about the pain in they life, but me through my career a lot of times I do a lot of rapping about cars and jewelry and just extravagance,” Gucci Mane explains.

“So I kind of wanted to let people know that I go through pain,” he says, “Like I said, I didn’t want to have a such so much just superficial topics. I hit people and let them know, ‘Hey, this was going on,’ but it ain’t a bad thing. It’s okay to be happy. You know what I’m saying?”

Aaron Carter’s Sister Arrested On Drug And Theft Charges

Drug issues have once again impacted the Carter family. According to Page Six, Aaron Carter’s sister Billie Jean was arrested for retail theft and drug possession on Saturday. Their report states that she was arrested after trying to shoplift over $50 of items from a Florida craft store. After police arrived she allegedly tried to get rid of a bag which was later confirmed to be fentanyl. She was reportedly put on suicide watch following the altercation and had her bond set at $500.

Aaron Carter passed away last November after he drowned in his bathtub with xanax in his system. The official coroner’s report was issued back in April and declared his death accidental. Even after the findings were announced Carter’s ex-fiancée wasn’t happy. “The results of the autopsy are not closure for me,” she said afterwards. She told multiple news outlets that she believed drugs were the cause, not drowning.  “It claims death is by drowning but also adds he was wearing a t-shirt and necklace in the bathtub which doesn’t make sense, why would he be in a bathtub with clothes on?”

Back in April, Aaron Carter’s house was listed for sale. The pop singers $4000 square foot home in Lancaster was put on the market for $850k. Carter’s mother, Jane has also dealt with her fair share of legal woes. Just last month she was arrested for battery. While all of this is going on Nick Carter has been dealing with a sexual assault and battery lawsuit made by former Dream singer Melissa Schuman.

Various family members including his fiancée and mother still believe that the coroner’s report is inaccurate. His mother even went as far as to post photos from the scene on her Instagram as proof. What do you think of the news that Aaron Carter’s sister has been arrested? Let us know in the comments below.

Steve-O Reflects On Raekwon Confronting Him Over “Disrespectful” ODB Tribute

Steve-O recently reflected on the time Raekwon confronted him over his “disrespectful” tribute to the late Wu-Tang Clan rapper, Ol’ Dirty Bastard. In a video posted on his Facebook page, Tuesday, the Jackass star recalled the first time he watched ODB perform in New York City and took note of his on-stage antics.

“[ODB] was the king of not giving a fuck, way before Kanye did it,” the comedian said. He recalled ODB “on stage with his pants down, dick out, smoking a huge blunt of PCP… I just thought, ‘That is my hero.’”

Years later, Steve-O convinced Method Man to let him make an appearance during Wu-Tang Clan’s headlining performance at Rock The Bells festival in 2006. He explained that his plan was to “get butt dirty-ass naked and flip my balls back” before doing a “perfect back flip and land with a standing mangina.” It would be in honor of the late ODB. Method Man apparently advised against doing so, but Steve-O said, “Dirty would love that!”

“All of a sudden, Raekwon stops the show completely,” Steve-O recalled. “He grabs me by my neck and drags me to the front of the stage.” From there, Steve shares never-before-seen footage from the incident. Raekwon says: “I didn’t appreciate that, and I’ma tell you right now in front of all these people, you gonna apologize or I’ma knock you out in front of all these people. ‘I’m not playing, straight up, that was disrespectful. I’m ready to fuck you up, so you better apologize right now. And I’m going to jail, straight up.’”

“I’ve never considered myself a tough guy, but even I was surprised by what a bitch I was in that moment,” Steve-O then joked. “After that, I was allowed to go. And security told us that I really should go because I was definitely not safe.”

Steve-O Reflects On The Incident

Steve-O added that he tried to make things right with the group to no avail. He explained: “I’ve reached out to Raekwon to try to make it right with him as well, but Raekwon is not interested in talking to me about it. If I ever get the chance to meet Raekwon, I hope that we can be cool. But if he makes me apologize again, I absolutely will, very quickly.”

“Bitch, did you just compare your birthday to the age in which this man’s wife deceased?” Dray George begins in his clip. “You disrespect — go to the next slide! I’m about to disrespect the hell out of you with a song!”

“I love comedy & u came for my boy @dcyoungfly at the wrong time @azealiabanksforever,” Dray George captioned the post. “You tried to capitalize and get some clout off a grieving family, so now it’s My turn in the studio. You still mad about some sh*t that happen 4 years ago, THAT U WENT ON… Ain’t nobody force u to go up there, @mtvwildnout is the wrong place to show if you don’t have thick skin… but disrespecting this man at a time like this over a joke, 4 YEARS AGO, Yeaah … @mercedesbenz need to hit ya DM shawty.” Gibbs later shared the post on Twitter, adding in the caption, “Vibranium head bitch,” with a laughing emoji.

Freddie Gibbs Shares The Azealia Banks Diss

As for Banks’ initial comments, she criticized D.C. Young Fly while implying that Jacky’s death was karmic. She wrote on Instagram: “Damn DC Young Fly spent years disguising his own deeply rooted hatred of self as joke’s pointed at women’s beauty, projecting his own ugliness unto women perfectly secure in their own skin. Say what you want about my tears. They were pure tears of rage and not at all a sign of weakness. Because in the end… I won. I’m happy I cried and moved on. That Jackie o girl must have been so deeply insecure about herself. And the nerve of DC to call such a gorgeous woman as Azealia Banks ugly on National television while a bunch of Black people laughed. And ironically, Dead at 32 exactly on my 32nd birthday May 31st, 2023, in Miami FL. You n****s are going to learn to stop fucking with me.” The comments were met with plenty of backlash.

Unabomber Ted Kaczynski, Dead At 81

Convicted domestic terrorist Ted Kaczynski, known as the Unabomber, has been found dead in his prison cell. A Federal Bureau of Prisons spokesperson claims that the infamous bomber was found today. He was 81-years-old. No cause of death has been confirmed yet. Kaczynski was serving life without the possibility of parole at a North Carolina prison.

Kaczynski was convicted of various mail bombings that occurred between 1978 and 1995, and killed three people. The bombings, which also injured 23 other victims, were targeted at scientists. A massive task force of over 150 investigators, analysts, and others, would search for the person behind the crimes for nearly 20 years. Known to be gifted academically, Kaczynski had also previously attended Harvard and later taught at the University of California, Berkeley.

Kaczynski Found Dead In His Cell

Kaczynski mailed a 35,000 word essay to the FBI in 1995, detailing his motives and perspective on modern society. The manifesto, Industrial Society and Its Future, was later published by The Washington Post in conjunction with The New York Times in hopes it would help authorities find and capture it’s author. David Kaczynski read the published manifesto and suspected that his brother, Ted, could have been behind it. He later led investigators to his brother, who was residing in a small, remote cabin in Western Montana.

Kaczynski was arrested on April 3, 1996. Police searched his cabin, finding various materials and documents pertaining to the bombings. He pled guilty to causing the 16 explosions in January of 1998, later being sentenced to four life sentences plus 30 years and held at a federal Supermax facility in Colorado. The trial saw the release of his various personal journals, where he described his motive for the bombings as “simply personal revenge.” He also detailed the attacks in the journals, revealing that he “often had fantasies of killing the kind of people I hated — i.e., government officials, police, computer scientists, the rowdy type of college students who left their beer cans in the arboretum, etc., etc., etc.″ In 2021, he was moved to a federal prison medical facility in North Carolina due to his declining health.
