However, we doubt that there will be many people complaining about his latest display of skill and talent on the kit. Moreover, the iconic pop-punk drummer covered one of the biggest hits of 2023: Gunna’s “fukumean,” and put his own spin on it. Instead of just playing the track’s drum pattern, he actually adapted his drumming to the rap flow on the song. It’s an unconventional method that isn’t that much better than how it sounds on paper, but that’s more of a slight against the rapper’s performance than the drummer.

Furthermore, Travis Barker showboats his juggling of his drumsticks, which is just as much of a spectacle as the notes themselves. In addition, he works in some creative fills, triplets, and other details to switch up his drumming from Gunna’s persistent rhymes on “fukumean.” Of course, this also opens up the possibility of the two of them collaborating on a song together one day, which might be even more likely now. Erykah Badu Stuns On The Cover Of “GQ Germany” Men Of The Year Edition

Earlier this week, GQ Germany unveiled its latest cover star, which is none other than Erykah Badu. The publication declared the Grammy winning performer the “Music Icon Of The Year” for their “Men Of The Year” issue, and she certainly brought all the intensity one would expect for her shoot. On the cover, Badu is seen striking a dramatic pose with her arms raised above her head, as her long braids obscure her otherwise bare chest.

She reflected on pioneering Neo-Soul in her interview with GQ Germany, describing how she paved the way for other artists with her debut album. “I helped introduce them,” she began. “I was the first in my genre. There was no genre until the name Neo-Soul was created for the album Baduizm because no one could categorize what I was doing. I drilled a hole in the dam, so to speak, and all the like-minded frequencies flowed through it. It’s a formula that others can use.”

Badu also opened up about what’s it’s been like for her being a woman in a male-dominated industry, claiming that she only began to recognize her gender once she delved into music. “I didn’t know I was a woman,” she explained. “I grew up in a community of people and went to art school to dance. In the art school, everyone is non-binary. We are simply human beings. We are creators.”

“I learned that I am a woman after I came into the music industry,” she continued. “There are a few unspoken rules regarding producers and production. If you do not know all the terms from the field of technology and production, you will not be taken into account when you present your ideas. This applies not only to women, but to everyone. I made my way through the door. Even without speaking their language. I was able to communicate with colors, sounds and hints. That’s my vision. That’s what I hear. I didn’t accept a no as an answer. Recently, a group of kids got together to prepare a cover of Boosie Badazz’s 2006 hit, “Wipe Me Down.” As one would expect, the results were hilarious. In a new clip, the pack of little ones is seen gathered at an event, showing off their moves as one of them spits bars. Clearly, they were pretty into it, and social media users think it’s adorable.

“He was ready for that [second] verse lol,” one Twitter user writes. “Oh sh*t they killed it,” someone else says alongside a series of laughing emojis. Other social media users are calling for Boosie himself to react to the video. He’s yet to do so at the time of writing, but he’d surely find it amusing, unlike some other recent uses of his music.

Earlier this month, Boosie took to social media to rant about other artists using his music without permission. He even threatened to take legal action over the allegedly stolen work, calling out artists like Rod Wave, Kodak Black, and more by name. According to him, he appreciates when other performers take inspiration from him, but he’d like to see a check too. Unfortunately, Rod Wave didn’t take too kindly to getting put on blast, and hopped on social media shortly after to fire back.

The Florida native didn’t hold back, giving Boosie a piece of his mind and insisting that he didn’t “steal” anything. “Jus ‘cuz you know ’bout da original song [doesn’t] mean I stole it? [You] d*mb b**ch,” he said in a since-deleted Tweet. “I ain’t never stole s**t, five platinum albums. Find [you] a hobby f**k ni**a. [You] b**ches don’t even [f**k with me], speaking on me. Moreover, the Cottonwood 2 rapper sang the R&B star’s track “Under The Influence” in a new social media video. We have to give him props: he gives it his all and stays (mostly) on key. Plenty of folks have that MC/singer duality, but it’s even more exciting to see it develop from someone you didn’t expect in that lane.

Furthermore, this also happened to 21 S*vage, who’s made a name for himself for trying to show off his pipes. Whether it’s on social media or at an Usher concert, NLE Choppa certainly has steep competition in this regard. Many folks in the comments section of The Neighborhood Talk‘s coverage of this Chris Brown cover demanded a collaboration between the two. Furthermore, maybe they can make a mixtape of sorts with other rappers who you’d never expect to sing some soulful jams on wax.

Jokes aside, though, the Memphis hitmaker is still quite proficient in his own lane. Perhaps he needs just a little bit more practice before he can hope to reach Chris Brown levels of vocal dexterity, at least in melodic and technical terms. But recent singles and collabs like the 21-year-old’s “Ice” with producers Aarne and Imanbek show that he’s still got that fire in him. As one of the most iconic R&B artists of the past few decades, Usher has a lot of pressure on his shoulders. Not only is he expected to perform to high standards, but he’s also seen as a leader and a voice of counsel for the newer generation. After all, the soulful singer has a lot of experience to pass onto the next wave, one that allowed him to craft an acclaimed and opulent Las Vegas residency recently. Moreover, with his latest appearance on BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge on Monday morning (October 23), he didn’t give any advice, but he did honor two of the most acclaimed contemporary artists in the genre to emerge over the past decade or so.

Furthermore, Usher covered Daniel Caesar and H.E.R.’s “Best Part,” and put together a wonderful rendition with a nine-piece band. While the full cover isn’t available on YouTube as of writing this article (which will likely change very soon), you can peep a clip of it down below. It’s quite the tender and softly passionate performance, with backing vocals and a lot of extra instrumentation to the originally guitar-reliant ballad. Rather than try to best it at its own game, he made sure to bring something to the table that the song didn’t have before, resulting in two great interpretations and not a simply diluted tribute.

In addition, the Confessions icon also performed his recent 21 S*vage and Summer Walker-assisted single, “Good Good.” That track is pretty representative of Usher’s renaissance in these past couple of months, actually, at least when it comes to new releases. It became his first song to make the top 30 of Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart in about eight years. With a Super Bowl halftime show on the way, too, we can only expect that the 45-year-old’s catalog will be inescapable in the lead-up to it- and we’re not complaining.

Kendrick Lamar’s “HUMBLE.” Covered By Maneskin At Madison Square Garden

Kendrick Lamar’s “HUMBLE.” is one of the biggest rap hits of the past few years, especially coming from one of the most respected and acclaimed artists today. Its appeal is quite universal, with engaging and catchy refrains and melodies, plus some sharp bars. In fact, it’s stretching beyond genre and national boundaries, as Italian rock superstars Måneskin covered the track at their Madison Square Garden show in New York on Friday (September 22). “We cannot be the last rock band,” lead singer Damiano David remarked to the crowd before they went into their homage. “But maybe we can be the first rap band,” he added, albeit incorrectly.

Jokes aside, the cover is about as energetic and electrifying as you’d expect from a rock-centered rendition of “HUMBLE.” Driving guitars, hard-hitting drums, and anthemic vocals made Kendrick Lamar’s track translate quite well. At the very least, this is a much more respectful and appropriate nod to the rapper than another European incident involving a blackface-laden Polish karaoke competition. Hopefully more bands of various genres keep seeing the magic in the Compton MC’s music, and how it connects to any crowd.

Maneskin’s Kendrick Lamar Cover Has Them Feeling “HUMBLE.”

Of course, this shouldn’t come as much surprise to Måneskin fans, who know the group to be quite versatile. While speaking to Esquire for an interview, David explained how each member’s wide influences contribute to their aesthetics and songwriting. “Not to brag, but for us, it comes easy,” he stated. “We have four different and very strong backgrounds. Ethan and Thomas are very into rock and roll, punk, more classical, so they bring that energy. I’m very, very into mainstream music, mainstream hooks, mainstream melodies. So I bring that kind of idea, and they put steroids in what I do.”

Meanwhile, the Pulitzer Prize-winning lyricist impacts his peers in much more meaningful ways than just artistic inspiration. His Black Hippy and former TDE partner ScHoolboy Q recently gave K.Dot credit for “saving his life.” Surely, this will be far from the last cover of his music for generations to come. Snoop Dogg & Chris Stapleton Cover “In The Air Tonight” As Monday Night Football Theme

The NFL has a new theme for Monday Night Football, and it mixes eras, genres, and fanbases to create a new anthem. Moreover, Chris Stapleton and Snoop Dogg graced fans with a cover of the iconic Phil Collins track “In The Air Tonight” on Monday (September 18). The rendition also featured Cindy Blackman Santana on drums, and made for a pretty grand and unexpected collaboration. ESPN and ABC aired it before coverage of the New Orleans Saints versus the Carolina Panthers and the Cleveland Browns versus the Pittsburgh Steelers, respectively.

According to a press release, this will continue for all Monday Night Football games, plus ESPN‘s Week 18 Saturday Doubleheader, Super Wild Card, and its first Divisional playoff game. “It was fascinating to me to see how one song could get you in that mode to go kick some tail,” the Steelers’ Hines Ward told ESPN. “I don’t care if you are the home team [or] the away team. You are hearing that song no matter what [before the game],” the Washington Commandeers’ Terry McLaurin remarked, as well. But now for the real question: how’s the song?

Well, it’s just as epic and over-the-top as you would expect for Monday Night Football, and that’s by no means a diss. Chris Stapleton provides soaring and passionate vocals, doing the drama of the original Phil Collins track justice. In addition, the country star pulls off a killer guitar solo towards the end, backed up by Santana’s expressive and powerful drumming. But you might be wondering: how on Earth does Tha Doggfather fit into this? The answer is a classically smooth and cheeky verse in the middle section, something that “In The Air Tonight” had never featured.
