J Cole Criticized By “The Cosby Show” Actor For His Music’s Use Of The N-Word

J Cole has proven himself to be a very versatile MC when it comes to the different kinds of raps that he lays down. Sometimes, he’s in a deep lyrical mode that blends sociocultural messaging with personal narrative, and other times, he’s talking about chewing sticks like it’s Wrigley’s. Moreover, this push and pull is at the center of The Cosby Show actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner’s criticism of the current use of the n-word in hip-hop. During the launch of the 53-year-old’s new podcast Not All Hood on Monday (June 10), he spoke on specifically lamenting the use of this kind of language from his favorite lyricists, including the Dreamville boss.

“I think why I’m more against it now is because it’s used so gratuitously,” Warner expressed regarding J. Cole. “It’s used without regard. At this point, for me, in hip-hop, I think there should be a moratorium on ‘n***a’ and ‘b***h.’ It’s low-hanging fruit. It’s so easy. Everybody f***ing does it to the point that it’s corny.” It would be interesting to hear the “Trae The Truth In Ibiza” spitter’s thoughts on this interpretation.

“There are MCs who I love, who I cannot listen to anymore,” Warner continued on the premiere of his podcast. “I love J. Cole but I had to stop listening to J. Because he’s proven himself to be such an incredible lyricist, [so I hate] the regularity that he does [use those words].” While this argument as far as profanity is a long-standing debate, it’s clear that Cole creates this contrast more strongly than folks would assume, and thus, his forays into words like these hit that much harder for detractors. If not for these terms, then some backlash pops up most certainly due to the varying quality of his recent material.

Meanwhile, we’re still waiting on whether The Fall Off will release soon, joining a lengthy list of the most anticipated albums of what’s left of 2024. But whether or not it ends up releasing in 2025 or even later is still an unconfirmed and undeniable possibility. Regardless, we’re looking forward to hearing whatever J. Cole does next. Even those who take issue with his lyrical content sometimes can’t deny how special of an artist he is.

Boosie Badazz Thinks Drake’s Neighborhood’s Shooting Could’ve Been Much Worse

While no one has been able to confirm whether or not the recent shooting near Drake’s home in his Toronto neighborhood has anything to do with his beef with Kendrick Lamar, other rappers, or other conflicts in his personal life or multi-faceted career, it certainly wrapped up the K.Dot battle on a scary, extreme, and hopefully outlying note that, fingers crossed, doesn’t escalate into further violence. However, Boosie Badazz thinks the shooting could’ve been worse. During a recent DJ Vlad interview on VladTV, he called out the hypocrisy of rap fans wanting to see beef go hard and demanding fast responses to diss tracks despite real-life situations. The question the Baton Rouge rapper had for these individuals was this: what if Adonis had gotten shot instead of a security guard?

Furthermore, Boosie thinks that folks are too quick to celebrate or minimize the impact of violence when it doesn’t affect the famous people we know or innocent bystanders. This goes not just for rap beef, but violence in general in the music industry, local communities, and other spaces. Also, he suggested that the rampant social media discussion around rap battles can eventually lead to violence escalating, which didn’t happen before because folks had to actually do something horrible before seeing retaliation. The 41-year-old also expressed his belief that neither Drake nor Kendrick Lamar can stop their crews from turning to extremes.

Kodak Black’s baby mama drama just got a whole lot more complicated, as authorities reportedly arrested the mother of two of his kids, Maranda Johnson, for allegedly jumping his first baby mother Jammiah “Maya” Broomfield. Specifically, the reported charges are battery, burglary, and grand theft, and follows Johnson threatening Broomfield and Kodak online as well as smashing his car windows. If you recall, this incident occurred because the rapper was with Broomfield and their son the other day. Seems like everyone involved has some issues to sort out. Hopefully they do so soon for the sake of the families, because seeing things go to these lengths can be scary.

Furthermore, this comes amid a pretty interesting time for Kodak Black, who’s not dealing with many legal issues right now and seems in a much better place. As such, we hope that the patience and positive energies are there to handle this combative situation as well as possible. But in addition to this being a more tranquil time for the Florida MC, he’s also got a lot more to develop when it comes to his next career moves and how he will grow throughout the decade. For example, he just put out a new compilation album featuring the next iteration of his Sniper Gang label, and seeing him in a more curation-based role is promising.

Moreover, Boosie told DJ Vlad during his latest VladTV interview that he doesn’t really see his personal and social media issues with Kodak as “rap beef,” per se. The same goes for his feud with NBA YoungBoy, as he thinks that these spats and situations are pretty casual and aren’t indicative of any real issues. Even though Badazz does have a partial “diss track” for Yak in “Grateful,” he doesn’t see it as such since it’s not all directed at him.

Meanwhile, hopefully all these family issues sort out, because Kodak Black always looks happy and healthy when he’s around his loved ones. Take this with a grain of salt, though, as there isn’t a whole lot of other information out there concerning this supposed arrest. But amid the G-Unit boss’ current legal battle with the liquor company Suntory Global Spirits, he reflected on the since-resolved dispute between Puff Daddy and Diageo. Apparently, they both have suffered at the hands of higher-ups, and you’d better savor this moment because this sympathy likely won’t last long.

“Puffy made Diageo a lot of money with ciroc, they were fine with that because he didn’t own anything,” 50 Cent shared in a recent Instagram post that spoke about his visit to Capitol Hill to discuss these issues and his Suntory dispute with Congressional and government figures. “Soon as he owns Deleón their relationship can’t work. For those unaware, 50 Cent sued Suntory in March of this year for $6 million, alleging embezzlement. “Changing the company name from Beam Suntory to @suntoryglobalspirits without correcting what was done to my brands @bransoncognac and @lecheminduroi doesn’t fix the problem and lacks honor,” he expressed concerning the issue in May. “I attempted to resolve the matter, not once, but twice. Now the legal process will play out publicly for everyone to see what really happened and how @suntoryglobalspirits would rather spend millions to protect and conceal criminal conduct instead of doing the right thing.”

As for Diddy, folks who were quiet or defensive on the matter were quick to turn on him as the world reacted to the Cassie footage, including Kim Porter’s father. Apparently, he reached out to the Toronto superstar to ask when he would drop “Family Matters,” which allegedly elicited an ominous response.

Furthermore, according to Elliott Wilson’s claims, Drake sent him a rat emoji in his answer to that question, insinuating that he thinks Wilson gave Kendrick Lamar information about him and his camp. The media personality had denied these claims previously. It’s easily one of the summer’s most anticipated hip-hop releases, and will be her first solo full-length effort since 2022’s Traumanize. A lot happened in Tina Snow’s life since then, and we’re sure that it will make for a pretty engaging and well-rounded album experience. All we can hope for is that her efforts ring louder than those of her overzealous, disrespectful, or downright toxic detractors.

In fact, Megan Thee Stallion has a big rollout to contend with, and one that’s boosting morale amid some other canceled or postponed shows. It’s a lot of momentum and hype, and one that has a big risk of falling apart if the album doesn’t deliver. But our skepticism is more directed public opinion and discourse, not so much Meg’s talents or potential.
