Moneybagg Yo Praises J Cole For Writing His Collab Verse At Lightning Speed

J Cole and Moneybagg Yo have a couple of collaborations together, namely their solo track “Say Na” and their YG link-up “Scared Money.” With this collaborative experience in mind, it’s no wonder that the Memphis MC would have some fond memories of his time with the Dreamville boss in the studio. Moreover, he recalled a particularly impressive session with the North Carolina spitter during a recent HipHopDX interview at the 2024 BET Awards’ red carpet in Los Angeles last Sunday (June 30). Specifically, Moneybagg expressed shock and awe at how Cole was able to work so quickly, and how it’s very hard to create these “lightning in a bottle” moments even when you have one of the best rappers of this generation in the booth.

“”J. Cole gave me eight bars ASAP,” Moneybagg Yo remarked concerning their time in the studio. “I’m talking about, like, probably in 15 minutes. We was in there, he done it ASAP. Boom, boom, boom. It was God because he was stopping by, he ain’t know I was at the studio, I ain’t know he was pulling up. And it kind of just happened organically. You can’t ask for those, you can’t pay for those things.”

Moneybagg Yo Speaks On J Cole’s Record-Time Verse-Writing

Previously, Moneybagg Yo had spoken on how Lil Durk also gave him a “classic” verse in record time. “Dat N***a @lildurk Sent Me A Verse Back In Less Than 20 mins Of Me Sending It To Em Da Night Before I Had To Turn My Project In And Its 1 of Dem Classic Day 1 Smurk Verses,” he wrote on Instagram earlier in the year. “Just Got A Crazyyyyy Feature In I Couldn’t Drop This Project Without. Now Everything Locked In Fasho sho Its Worth Da Wait.”

Of course, the project in question is Moneybagg Yo’s new album SPEAK NOW. Hopefully these fruitful and impressive interactions with both J Cole and Lil Durk continue to inspire him to put in more work with the pen and keep making great music. As fans, we often talk a lot about how our favorite artists captivate, inspire, and enlighten us in their own unique ways. But it’s always all the more special when that passion and craft inspires MCs’ peers above all else.

Joe Budden Can’t Help But Vibe Out To Drake’s Collab With Camila Cabello

As much as Joe Budden might have a problem with Drake on many levels, he’s also often conceded that he likes a lot of his material, that he respects him as a rapper, and that it’s a pretty complicated relationship. If you want proof of that, look no further than his latest podcast episode reaction to the 6ix God’s new collaboration with Camila Cabello on her album C,XOXO. Moreover, maybe folks mostly remember Joe’s thoughts on Drizzy through the lens of the recent Kendrick Lamar beef. While he might not always like Aubrey when he acts tough, he does like him with the melodies pretty often.

Furthermore, you can see from The Joe Budden Podcast‘s general reaction to “HOT UPTOWN” that not everyone was as impressed and into it as the titular host. “That’s enough, that’s enough,” Budden said of the Drake collaboration about a minute into it. “We don’t need to hear no more of that. Who don’t know that that’s a hit? Who don’t know that that’s going to take the game where it needs to be? Come on, for the summertime? Coming off of the beef? Perfect thing to do.”

The Joe Budden Podcast Reacts To Drake’s Camila Cabello Collabs

Elsewhere during The Joe Budden Podcast‘s discussion, they spoke on how Drake took things back to a lot of his earlier breezy hits and catchiness. Some folks were “thrown off” by this approach, but the consensus was mostly positive, especially when considering it in a summer context. It’s similar to how folks responded to this and the “Uugly” interlude online: some appreciate the melodic approach, others praise it in a back-handed manner, and some people are just haters. The way the cookie crumbles.

Meanwhile, we wonder if these new Drake tracks will impact folks’ current discussion around who is the better rapper between him and Kendrick Lamar. We definitely know that Joe Budden feels pretty confident in the latter, but rap artists don’t always have to be lyrical masterminds to get praise. No matter how much we play this song in the summer, it’s exciting to move forward for both of these artists. Despite their decade-plus-long run, platforms like The Joe Budden Podcast show that folks are still very excited about what they have to offer in any capacity.

Drake Fans & Haters Alike Are Having A Field Day With His New Camila Cabello Collabs

Drake is throwing his hat into the “song of the summer for 2024” ring twice with two nominations, this time being his collabs on the new Camila Cabello album C,XOXO. Moreover, “HOT UPTOWN” and his solo “Uugly” interlude have a lot of fans online singing its praises for their catchy refrains, breezy and atmospheric instrumentation, and for his vocal delivery and melodic dominion. Of course, not everyone’s on board, but what did you expect for a Toronto superstar who just emerged from one of the most monumental rap beefs in recent memory? Regardless on where you fall with these new tracks, it’s clear that they will probably make a massive cultural push when it comes to the rotation.

Also, there have been plenty of memes and comical assessments to come out of these fan reactions, a train that was already chugging for a while. For example, the 6ix God recently posted a picture with a hookah hose that elicited a lot of clowning from haters, as some of his social media content tends to land. He probably doesn’t mind all the engagement, as he’s had much worse content out about him when it comes to jokes at his expense. “Drake the type” humor ran its course with more vitriol than most memes elicit.

Drake & Camila Cabello’s “HOT UPTOWN”: Listen

Jokes aside, there are rumors that Aubrey Graham will drop something else very soon, although they are purely speculative. Some fans are convinced that he will release another diss track against Kendrick Lamar around the release of K.Dot’s “Not Like Us” music video, which could arrive any day now. While many want the battlefield to reopen, others think that this wouldn’t do either MC any favors. At least we have these new Camila Cabello tracks to keep things light, fun, and sunny, for which you can find more reactions to down below.

Fans React To New Drizzy Tracks

As folks continue to debate the legendary rap feud, Drake is moving on in his own way, putting out some infectious songwriting and making hits as he does best. Kendrick Lamar is on a different path for his community, and the most likely scenario is that they both want to build off of their hype, not backtrack to it. Whether or not they succeed in this regard remains a mystery. But it’s one we’ll happily continue to solve.

Drake & Dave’s Upcoming Collab Have Fans Once Again Calling The 6ix God A Culture Vulture

Drake recently teased a potential collaboration with Dave via his Instagram Story, and it’s been a while since we’ve heard from this duo in the studio. Moreover, they linked up back in 2016 for the “Wanna Know” remix and the latter contributed to the former’s 2017 More Life cut “Teenage Fever.” Yikes, that aged well, didn’t it? Jokes aside, what some people online are taking issue with actually isn’t that aspect of Kendrick Lamar’s disses against the 6ix God, but rather another element that’s been in the conversation for a long time. With this new tease, the OVO mogul once again faced accusations of being a culture vulture for seeking out a U.K. rapper.

Of course, this is a pretty ridiculous example of possible confirmation bias: would we really be so up in arms about a U.S. MC teaming up across the pond if it wasn’t Drake? Would it be such an obvious criticism if we weren’t still listening to “Not Like Us”? Either way, he’s worked a lot with English artists and folks from the United Kingdom in the past, so he’s got as many credentials as any other artist that we wouldn’t bat an eye at over this. But the context is very hard to ignore, and folks wonder whether this is part of a post-beef recovery.

Drake Teases Dave Collab

Regardless, we doubt that Drake needs much of a “comeback,” or that he needs to put in a whole lot of work to achieve one. We know that his upcoming collabs on the new Camila Cabello project will likely be songs for the summer, and that he has a lot more in the tank. Perhaps Dave will be one of these team-ups that defines Drizzy’s post-battle 2024. Yet it won’t arrive without some scrutiny, however warranted or undeserved.

Fans Launch Culture Vulture Accusations

Meanwhile, it seems like Drake still has some things to say about the Kendrick Lamar feud, or at least, that’s how fans are interpreting his latest A.I. robot-featuring IG Story post. It’s all speculative, but in the culture vulture convo’s case, it’s more about what individual fans interpret. Maybe he’s making the right approach of reaching out to amazing talent like Dave and building off past work. Or, on the other hand, Aubrey Graham doubled down on his use of whatever sound he sees fit.

Jay-Z & Nas’ First-Ever Collab To Hit DSPs Soon, Courtesy Of Shaquille O’Neal

Shaquille O’Neal is currently gearing up to drop his third studio album, You Can’t Stop The Reign, on DSPs. The highly anticipated moment is scheduled for this Friday (June 28), nearly two decades after the LP’s original 1996 release. Fans are certainly eager to get to listen to it on their respective favorite platforms, and fortunately, the former NBA star will also be providing them with some exciting unreleased material.

Reportedly, the album will feature the original version of his track “No Love Lost,” which features both Nas and Jay-Z. Moreover, this was the duo’s first-ever collab, making it a truly historical track. For obvious reasons, fans can’t wait and are sounding off in Fake Shore Drive‘s Andrew Barber’s comments section.

Shaq Prepares To Drop You Can’t Stop The Reign On DSPs

“THIS IS HISTORY,” one Twitter/X user writes. Another simply says, “This is actually wild.” Others are chiming in to argue that the release is long overdue, which most commenters can agree with. Of course, the track was recorded just before Jay-Z and Nas began a feud that would last for several years, making the recording all the more interesting. Their beef has been a hot topic of debate as of late, particularly amid the fallout of Kendrick Lamar and Drake’s lyrical battle. After things were resolved, they teamed up for a track on Nas’ Hip Hop Is Dead, which made it clear that the war was officially over.

Regardless, “No Love Lost” certainly marks an interesting point in time, which listeners will get an opportunity to look back on come this Friday. Are you looking forward to Shaq’s album, You Can’t Stop The Reign, hitting DSPs? What do you think of him including the original version of “No Love Lost” featuring both Jay-Z and Nas? The Alchemist Reveals Jay-Z Is The Rapper He Wants To Work With Most

The Alchemist is one of the most respected producers in the game. His name is synonymous with quality, whether he’s working with Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, or Larry June. The mere fact that he can work all three of these artists denotes a versatility that few producers can match. That being said, The Alchemist is not content to sit on his laurels. He may already have a Hall of Fame resume, but he talked about his dream collaboration during a recent interview with NFR Podcast.

The Alchemist and Cardo linked up to discuss their career goals, and the former made it very clear who he wants to work with: Jay-Z. Somehow, The Alchemist and Hov have yet to officially work together. This is something the producer wants to remedy as soon as possible. “Jay always been on my list,” he stated. “I been saying it for a hundred years. It’s Jay-Z. I would love to. We linked but I keep the faith.” He made it clear that there’s no ill will between him and Jay. He asserted, though, that he’d only want to collab with the Brooklyn rapper if the desire was mutual.

The Alchemist Has Known Jay-Z For Twenty Years

For The Alchemist, it’s all about respect and creative unity. “At this point, I hope it would be a mutual thing,” he explained. “Like I would want to work with somebody that would wanna work with me. There’s a couple that’s brewing that’s like bucket list sh*t for me that I hope happens. I still have hopes like that.” The closest The Alchemist and Jay-Z got to working together was on the 2020 Jay Electronica album, A Written Testimony. The Alchemist produced the song “The Neverending Story,” which Jay-Z eventually spit a verse on.

The Alchemist and Jay-Z have actually known each other for decades. They first met in New York in the early 2000s, which the producer recalled during a For the Record interview. “[Jay] leaned in my ear and was like, ‘Yo when you gonna stop wasting them beats?,’” he stated. Jay-Z was responsible for getting The Alchemist and Beanie Sigel in the studio together, and he even got a chance to hear the producer’s breakout beat, “We Gonna Make It.” The Alchemist claimed that Jay actually passed on the beat before it went to Jadakiss. Hopefully the producer gets his collab sooner than later.

Timbaland Gets Help From N3WYRKLA For Bratty Single “CH3RRY”

You are not going to find too many more talented producers than Timbaland. His ability to create undeniable grooves or just straight bangers in nearly unmatched and its why he is built such an iconic career. On top of that, he was worked with almost every hip-hop/R&B star you can think of. However, he does not pigeonhole himself to only teaming up with the biggest names. The Virginia native is always showing the rising stars in the industry love, as well as giving each artist his best stuff time and time again. That is the case on Timbaland’s newest single “CH3RRY”.

This time around the hitmaker extraordinaire is linking with newcomer N3WYRKLA, an R&B singer with one heck of an attitude. At least that is the case on “CH3RRY”, as the vocalist is putting Gen Z men on blast for being soft. In addition to her bold claims, she is also fed up with the games these same guys are playing, as her career is taking centerstage in her life. If the name N3WYRKLA sounds familiar, that is because she was featured on Brent Faiyaz’s most recent album, Larger Than Life. Even though she has a smaller following, N3WYRKLA is quickly rising up the totem pole due to her co-signs from two of the biggest names. As for Timbaland, this just proves once again that he is still on top of his game. That is especially true in 2024, as he scored some production credits on Kanye’s VULTURES 1.

Lil Baby Teases Sexyy Red Collab On The Way

Lil Baby has some more heat on the way in 2024, it seems, and it’s with none other than one of the biggest artists of the past few years. Moreover, he recently took to social media to tease his verse on a new Sexyy Red collab, a link-up that has a lot of potential to impress. They previously collaborated on “Lick Me,” one of the raunchier cuts (and that’s saying something) off of Sexyy’s recent project, In Sexyy We Trust. In addition, this also builds up some more anticipation for whatever the Atlanta rapper is dropping next, as it’s been a while since his last solo studio album.

Furthermore, Lil Baby might have a lot of “mid” claims running around right now, but there’s definitely still plenty of gas in the tank for doubters to hop on board. So far in 2024, he’s built his name off of some notable collabs, including the aforementioned Sexyy Red team-up and the Central Cee-assisted “BAND4BAND.” That cut saw Baby tap into the drill scene with a bit more aggression, something that we might see a little more of in the near future. Either way, we just want some hard bars and flows, and we know that he’s got the capacity to deliver.

Lil Baby Teases Sexyy Red Collab

Apart from that Lil Baby collab, Sexyy Red also has a big year to look forward to, with plenty of hot releases and performances under her belt already in 2024. In Sexyy We Trust was a hit for many fans, and it’s clear that this focus on her image and brand will yield dividends in the long run. It’s a very different approach to that of other artists, as the St. Louis MC always stays in her lane. Rather than come off as one-note or gimmicky, it feels much more authentic and raw that one might expect on first listen.

Meanwhile, with a WWE NXT appearance to boot, there’s no telling where Sexyy Red will go next. As for Lil Baby, he’s got a chance to really make a strong comeback and disprove some narratives about him. Whether or not he follows up on that in 2024 or a little later remains a mystery. But one thing’s for sure: they might strike gold with this upcoming collab.

NLE Choppa Proposes That Kendrick Lamar & Drake Should Make Another Collab

We in the media are still fiending for Drake versus Kendrick Lamar takes, and celebrities are still happy to meet and exceed our demands. Moreover, NLE Choppa recently sat down for an interview with Billboard, during which the topic of the most significant rap battle since at least Jay-Z and Nas inevitably came about. He had previously given some takes on the matter, but his latest conclusion is a little bit different to the whole “Why can’t everyone just get along?” narrative. Moreover, the Memphis MC thinks that Aubrey Graham and Mr. Duckworth should team up like they did for “Poetic Justice” almost 12 years ago and drop another song together.

“I feel like the win is more so not about who got the most streams or what song is the best,” NLE Choppa began. “I think the win is more so how you handle the success you got from all that controversy. [The] win’ll be like something like both of them coming together and doing a song together. I think the win is doing something similar to when Drake and Meek was having their feud. Like, they did what they did, but they came back as men to shake hands and made a song. That’s what we need to see.”

NLE Choppa Speaks On Kendrick Lamar & Drake Beef

Whether or not you agree, NLE Choppa’s sentiment is certainly not an uncommon one in the rap game, although this sentiment of healing doesn’t match the skeptical perspective that others have of Kendrick Lamar and Drake potentially burying the hatchet. For example, T.I. and Chuck D both posited for very different reasons that they might go on tour together sometime in the future. In Tip’s case, he called the rap battle the most “exacerbated” of all time, so his commentary might point to the inevitability of chasing the biggest moment possible. This year, it was beef, but in a couple more, it could be reconciliation.

Just think of the moment that Drake and Kanye West created with their Free Larry Hoover benefit concert. Chuck D seems more hopeful as far as what that buried hatchet would mean for hip-hop culture, but it’s tough to call. After all, K.Dot and The Boy went really hard at each other. But would it really be that surprising if they chase a bag down the road or have a few more years to mature?

Slum Village, Earlly Mac, & Cordae Are “So Superb” Together

Detroit rap group Slum Village deserves a lot of credit for still going strong all these later. We say this because after 9 long years without a new album, they have made quite a triumphant return. This past weekend, they came through with an exhilarating fusion of jazz, disco, and rap called F.U.N. Of course, the late great J Dilla is not around for this incredible release, but just know that he would be thrilled to be a part of this. T3 and rapper/producer Young RJ did an incredible job with this offering, and it is going to remain in rotation throughout the year for us.

In the press release, T3 explained where the inspiration for this project stemmed from. “[It] began with collecting old Disco records.” Additionally, RJ felt like some sort of reset was in order. “[We] wanted to just try something new, so we focused on making Disco-inspired music.” One of the songs that we feel capitalized on that very well is “So Superb.”
