Charlamagne Tha God Has A Meesage For Kendrick Lamar

The hip-hop world is ablaze today thanks to Kendrick Lamar’s new song, with every corner of the culture chiming in either with a dismissive “No thanks” or enthusiastic breakdowns. Many folks wonder whether this is a Drake diss, an album rollout kickoff, or something else entirely. But the main point of discussion for many in the rap game is all the criticism that K.Dot has for the culture: the media industries, the consumers, the influencers, etc. Well, The Breakfast Club discussed this new untitled track, which is going by many names in the discourse right now. Charlamagne Tha God’s take was particularly interesting because of its assessment of Kendrick’s goals.

“It’s very dope,” Charlamagne Tha God said of Kendrick Lamar’s new song. “Like you said, Lauren, I don’t believe the record is just about Drake. I think he’s talking about just the culture. People in the world, society, the industry, media. And I’ma tell you something, Kendrick: you gon’ drive yourself crazy, okay? The only thing you can do is continue to be the change you want to see in the world. ‘Cause this ain’t stopping no time soon. It’s just not. You know what I mean? *laughs* We’re too far gone. Like, God himself would have to come back, and even then, they would not believe it! *laughs* Even then, man, Wu-Tang’s ‘Triumph’ could start playing and a big toe could come from the sky and Jesus himself could come down, and they would make him have to prove himself. ‘That ain’t walking on water, that’s A.I.’”

Charlamagne Tha God Speaks On Kendrick Lamar’s New Song

Of course, this is a pretty common sentiment online, at least for those that agree with Kendrick Lamar’s thoughts on the culture. Many see the fight for hip-hop’s “soul” as a losing battle, much like what Charlamagne Tha God expressed. But there are hundreds of turns of phrases we could use here to symbolize that change doesn’t happen overnight. It’s clear that there’s still a lot more left in this saga that will inform this move.

Meanwhile, a lot of folks wonder what Kendrick Lamar’s next move will be. While this seems like a pretty surefire album rollout, we also can’t really predict anything when it comes to him. With that in mind, we’ll just have to be patient and stay on our toes.

Tems Clears Up Future Pregnancy Rumors And Wonders Why His Former Friend Wasn’t Implicated Instead

Tems says she doesn’t understand why Future was at the center of the pregnancy rumors she dealt with last year. Appearing on The Breakfast Club, she explained that he seemed to her as random of Drake, Wiz Kid, or any other artist. Future and Tems previously collaborated on the hit record, “Wait for U.”

“I feel like people take the most controversial thing they can think of… I was thinking, why am I pregnant for Future? Like, why Future? Why him? That’s the craziest thing… why not with Wiz [Kid]? Why not with Drake? Why not someone else?” From there, she clarified that her reaction would’ve been the same to either of those artists.

It’s far from the first time Tems shot down the ridiculous rumors. Soon after they popped up, she wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “In conclusion, you people are all mad!!!” During an interview on the Drive Time Show for The Beat 99.9 FM, last December, Tems further revealed that she began receiving death threats as a result. “I didn’t actually think anybody believed it,” she said. “I didn’t know it was serious, I didn’t know until I started getting messages, like death threats. Like, ‘How dare you! Of all the people in the world, Future? Really? Really, of all the people?’ And I’ve never even—I’ve never met him in my life. So, it’s cr*zy.”

Charlamagne Tha God Theorizes Drake Has Already Taken Legal Action Over Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl Performance

Charlamagne Tha God says he expects that people from the NFL, Roc Nation, and more all received legal letters in the wake of Kendrick Lamar announcing his performance at the Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show. Discussing the move on Monday’s episode of The Breakfast Club, Charlamagne argued that Drake will not be okay with Lamar calling him a pedophile on stage at the event.

“If he does ‘Not Like Us’ at the Super Bowl, I want the opening cords and then just the hook,” Charlamagne began. “If you think that the NFL and Roc Nation and a bunch of other people didn’t get a whole bunch of legal letters yesterday from people with owls as their stamp. I promise you, you’re not calling me a pedophile at the Super Bowl. I guarantee you, the OVO people sent so many legal letters yesterday.”

From there, Charlemagne discussed fans being upset that the NFL didn’t choose Lil Wayne to perform at the event. One of the many voices to speak out on that topic was Master P. He argued on social media: As Ambassador of Entertainment in the City of New Orleans I have to agree with the fans that Lil Wayne should be a part of this celebration as well. He’s one of the greatest Hip Hop artists alive, still relevant and he’s a New Orleans native. Let’s not miss this cultural moment in the South. Life is too short! We have to give our legends their flowers while they are here. #Godisgood Change starts with us.” Cam’ron also addressed JAY-Z about the decision on It Is What It Is.

Charlamagne Tha God Legal Battle With Sexual Assault Accuser Isn’t Over Yet

Charlamagne Tha God may have successfully won a dismissal of Jessica Reid’s sexual assault lawsuit; however, Judge Ona T. Wang is giving her a chance to refile with a focus on defamation. Reid previously accused The Breakfast Club host of sexually assaulting her in 2001 when she was just 15 years old. She first took legal action against him in December 2022.

“For over two decades, Plaintiff Reid has tried to live with the horror of what happened to her at the ripe age of 15. This Court has the power to grant Plaintiff Reid some justice under the current terms of the statutes, leaving any unintended consequences for the legislature to sort out,” Reid’s legal team claimed in a court filing caught by AllHipHop.

The defamation accusation stems from comments Charlamange made during a 2015 episode of the Brilliant Idiots podcast that resurfaced in a video on YouTube from the channel, “SELFTALK.” It’s titled: “Funk Flex Calls Out Charlamagne Tha God After Tasha K & Jessica Reid Interview.” Charlamagne’s lawyers are arguing that he had no involvement in the publishing of that YouTube video and thus can’t be blamed. “Plaintiff did not and cannot allege that Charlamagne had any involvement in the SELFTALK video,” they said. “Charlamagne did not identify, mention, or reference the Plaintiff during the audio recording.” They also cited the statute of limitations for defamation in New York having already passed when Charlamagne made the comments that were included in the video.

Charlamagne previously addressed the allegations during an episode of The Breakfast Club in July 2018. “The documents showed I did everything in my power to fully cooperate with authorities before this case was ultimately dismissed. But I cannot take responsibility for a crime that I did not commit. I am praying for healing for the victim, and I am committed to using my platform that God has blessed me with to do as much good as I possibly can for the rest of my life,” he said at the time. Charlamagne Tha God Doesn’t Believe That ASAP Rocky Dissed Drake On J Cole Collab

We can all agree that 2024’s great rap war has made us all read a little too deeply into lyrics sometimes. We just got a key example of that thanks to ASAP Rocky and J Cole’s new collab “Ruby Rosary.” Thanks to some possibly slick lyrical references from the Harlem creative and the complex role that the Dreamville boss has played in hip-hop’s ecosystem for the past year or so, many fans think that this is a not-so-subtle diss at Drake. But Charlamagne Tha God and the rest of The Breakfast Club think that this is a bit of a reach.

J. Cole better not be dissing nobody,” Charlamagne Tha God began when the crew proposed that there might be a shot on the new song. “Oh, okay, okay, okay.” “How is that a Drake diss?” he asked when one of TBC‘s cohosts recited the lyrics that many fans are bringing up. “Oh… I mean, it sounds like he’s dissing a whole top five if he says ‘F your top five.’ I don’t know either, I think y’all just be making up stuff. *laughs* Here’s the thing. When I say it’s ‘this generation,’ I’m not just talking about y’all. It’s just the whole cycle of people. Like, the way people’s minds work is just weird. He said, ‘F your top five.’ So your top five must be Drake, Drake, Drake, Drake, and Drake.”

The Breakfast Club Speaks On ASAP Rocky, J Cole & Potential Drake Disses

But do you know what’s really funny about Charlamagne’s dismissal? There is someone whose top five is all Drake, and if you don’t know what we’re talking about, just look up “DJ Akademiks Drake Top Five” on YouTube for a laugh. Along with some other references like bars about “push ups,” A$AP Rocky fans aren’t all too misguided in drawing these connections. But the real likely scenarios are that this was all unintentional and that, even if they are references, they don’t amount to enough of a sting for this to really be an inflammatory moment. If anything, according to OVO fans, J. Cole is the one who should really be answering questions here.

Also, we already know that A$AP Rocky and Drake have beef, so them throwing possible subliminals at each other is practically worthless. The only people getting value from it are true haters of either lyricist. But we can’t pretend that all the speculation and discussion isn’t at least entertaining. After all, that reality is what allowed the biggest rap battle in at least two decades to materialize.

Charlamagne Tha God Thinks Michael Rubin Is Actually Right Despite Backlash

Michael Rubin’s recent appearance on The Breakfast Club resulted in a couple of notable social media narratives that listeners debated over. One of these were his remarks on Drake attending his White Party in the aftermath of his Kendrick Lamar battle. But a far more controversial part of the interview was when the Fanatics mogul remarked on what he thinks is lamentable about Black culture. Particularly, he said that Black people are too quick to hate on each other. While reflecting on these comments on the radio show’s next episode, host Charlamagne Tha God and the rest of the gang explained Rubin’s perspective and even agreed with him.

“Yeah, Meek said Michael shouldn’t have said that out loud,” Charlamagne Tha God’s analysis began. “Michael said one of his friends called and said that wasn’t his place to say it. But guess what? None of those people said he lied, because he didn’t. Now, I’m not into broad generalizations, because we know all Black people don’t hate each other. We know all Black people don’t tear each other down, but it does happen enough for him to make that observation. And it happens enough for us to have those conversations amongst each other.

The Breakfast Club Speaks On Michael Rubin Backlash

“And as I told him, if those are the conversations they’re having in private, bring it to the forefront,” Charlamagne Tha God continued. “We know what it is, we know why it is: white supremacy. And I would rather focus on what he said, which is let’s continue to push each other up. I’d rather focus on that. We literally had a conversation about Jewish people hating on other Jewish people. He started talking about people saying he’s a bad Jew because of how much he supports Black people. We literally had that conversation right after the Black conversation. We had a whole conversation.

“I don’t have any problem with critique,” Charlamagne Tha God concluded. “I don’t have any problem with people being held accountable if they do something foul. To me, that’s not hate. But we all know exactly what Michael Rubin was talking about because we talk about it amongst ourselves. Anyone who doesn’t acknowledge that isn’t actively trying to fix it.”

Charlamagne Tha God Urges Drake To Take Lengthy Hiatus

A lot of people are trying to play the role of Drake’s manager and advisor these days following his Kendrick Lamar battle. The latest slightly patronizing take about what his next moves should be comes from Charlamagne Tha God, who discussed his latest career updates on the Brilliant Idiots podcast. These include a Lil Yachty collab that Kai Cenat leaked on his livestream, as well as presumably the 6ix God’s 100 GIGS drop of new songs and BTS material. Despite all the attention on him right now, the Breakfast Club host thinks that he should hang it up for a little bit and then come back.

“Listen, to your point, when the dust settles, it’s not gon’ really be anything,” Charlamagne Tha God told Andrew Schulz, possibly making a specific reference to the Kendrick Lamar beef. “But I think that Drake should go away for, like, a year. And let nostalgia bring him back. Or maybe six months, just take a break.” While there are plenty of reasons as to why the Toronto superstar might want to take a break right now, many see it as a direct result of his perceived loss in the K.Dot battle.

Charlamagne Tha God Wants People To Miss Drake Again

However, Drake already wanted to take a break last year, as he indicated in the For All The Dogs era and at the beginning of the Kendrick Lamar battle. As such, it seems like we just can’t let him go for whatever reason. There’s something to be said about how paradoxical these discussions can be. For example, folks have flip-flopped a lot on whether or not Drizzy is on the clock to respond to a diss, doing too much with his subsequent releases, not doing enough to prove himself… You get the idea.

Regardless of what Charlamagne Tha God thinks, Drake’s recent moves suggest that he isn’t going away anytime soon. Fans are already theorizing as to what his next project will be about thanks to some social media hints. Many fans think that this strategy will work in his favor, and others believe that it won’t do anything to erase the reality of the Kendrick Lamar battle. Only time will tell, so let’s give this debacle even more time to age and anchor itself in rap history.

Michael Rubin Catches Serious Flack For Revealing What He Dislikes About Black Culture

Michael Rubin is someone who is in close proximity to black culture. Overall, the Fanatics entrepreneur has friendships with the likes of Meek Mill, Jay-Z, Drake, and many other artists in the hip-hop world. Throughout the years, some have questioned this proximity and his intentions. However, Rubin continues to be defended by those who know him best. Not to mention, the who’s who of entertainment can be found at his yearly White Party, with the latest outing being the biggest yet.

Recently, however, Michael Rubin found himself in a bit of a controversy, and it’s all his own doing. The entrepreneur was on The Breakfast Club where he offered up some comments about what he dislikes about black culture. As you can see below, Rubin said that he doesn’t like when black people hate on other black people. He subsequently used some of the backlash against Meek Mill as an example of this. However, many didn’t appreciate just how comfortable he was making these comments.

Michael Rubin Speaks

In the tweets below, you can see the backlash that Rubin received. Overall, some felt it was offensive that Rubin would be comfortable enough to say this out loud. Furthermore, others were mad at Charlamagne Tha God for entertaining the comments and asking him to expound. At this stage, it seems unlikely that Rubin will apologize for his comments. He may not even know about the backlash. Either way, The Breakfast Club may have to rethink what they let their guests get away with, moving forward.

Fans Are Divided On Sauce Walka’s Claim That Drake Is A Culture Vulture Of Houston’s Music Scene

First, Kendrick Lamar called Drake out for supposedly leeching off of Atlanta’s thriving hip-hop scene. Now, Sauce Walka is calling out the “First Person Shooter” rapper for not tapping into Houston’s local talent enough.

Yesterday (August 13), during an appearance on The Breakfast Club, Sauce Walka accused Drake of being a culture vulture, more specifically of the Houston sound. After host Charlamagne Tha God mentioned Drake (a longtime foe of Walka) the pair then examined his love for the city, which was recently highlighted with the purchase of a new $15 million estate.

“Why did Drake not have no bunch of records with Houston artists,” said Walka. “You been doing that with Atlanta? How did Drake love Houston so much at that time and not have music with artists that you are uplifting from this community? F*ck me. I don’t care. It’s bigger than me.”

Then Walka made it clear he did count Drake’s work with Bun B, Travis Scott, or Beyoncé as true support of the city. “It’s about fair exchange in business [for Drake],” he said. “If you are using the lineage and the culture of somebody’s city or somebody’s hometown and backyard, do something that helps not yourself and your notoriety for your own benefit with the ladies and the people a see in the city. Do something that actually makes the economy of their city and music and musicians bigger and greater. That’s all I was saying. Not just for me, this for anybody.”

However, users across X (formerly Twitter) are divided by Walka’s claims.

“Sauce Walka is full of sh*t here,” wrote a user. “But let’s agree he is right…Drake collabs with Atlanta artists = Colonizer. Drake does not colonize other state’s artists = culture vulture.”

While others agreed with Walka’s emphasis on Drake overlooking rising act. “Sauce said he wants Drake to help artists that are up and coming,” penned another user. “And you n****s keep screaming Travis, Beyoncé, and Bun B like they weren’t already who they were before Drake.”

Charlamagne Tha God Slams Kamala Harris For Reaching Out To Kai Cenat

Charlamagne Tha God wasn’t a fan of Kamala Harris’ team reaching out to Kai Cenat about collaborating on a livestream. The Breakfast Club host discussed the story on Wednesday morning, days after Donald Trump spoke with Adin Ross.

“Hit me and tell me who sent you that text man because whoever on Vice President Kamala Harris’ team hit Kai Cenat to do a live stream, they need to be fired,” Charlamagne began. “Stop letting social media run her campaign. You saw [Donald] Trump go on Adin Ross and you saw the attention that garnered, you saw the headlines that got. You saw social media start saying the Vice President needs to go on Kai Cenat and you ran to go make that happen, not even stopping to think, ‘Is this organic? Does Kai Cenat even care about politics?’”

Kamala Harris & Tim Walz Speak In Philadelphia

From there, Charlamagne theorized Cenat is certainly not a fan of Trump, but also clearly isn’t interested in politics. “You know why the Trump-Adin Ross stream worked? Because Adin Ross had real interest in Donald Trump,” he explained. “And, I do believe politicians should absolutely meet people where they are, but it still has to make sense. Let it be something organic. There’s a lot of places the VP can go to get in front of a younger audience. There are influencers Kai’s age. I don’t know. I’m all for meeting people where they are, but it also has to make sense.” From there, he recommended Harris speak with The 85 South Show.
