“The Breakfast Club” Heads To BET Following iHeartMedia Partnership

The Breakfast Club has undergone some major changes over the past few months. Angela Yee’s out and Charlamagne Tha God and DJ Envy have had a rotating roster of guest hosts, including Luenell, Ray J, and plenty of others. Though many felt as though the Breakfast Club would go under after Yee left, they continue to level up. The next move includes a transition to nationally syndicated TV via BET following a partnership with iHeart.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Breakfast Club will be joining the BET roster as one of the first bids to regain its prominence in daily programming. Beginning April 17th, 2023, BET will air an hour-long broadcast of the Power 105.1 series daily at 9 a.m.. This will mark BET’s first daily program since 106 & Park came to a close in 2014. President of entertainment enterprises at iHeartMedia John Sykes explained that the partnership with BET “will expand the radio show’s reach to millions more watching on this iconic television network.”

The Breakfast Club On BET

The Breakfast Club is no stranger to broadcast television, though their deal with Revolt TV ended in 2021. Now, the show will be syndicated to 90+ markets daily. “BET has been the home of so many cultural institutions, like Rap City and 106 & Park, that have shaped a generation,” said Charlamagne Tha God. “Those shows laid the foundation for The Breakfast Club to stand on and grow into the cultural institution that we have become. We look forward to carrying on the tradition.” DJ Envy added, “I’m looking forward to the opportunity to showcase The Breakfast Club on BET. I love what the new BET is doing!”

However, the announcement of the shift comes as the Paramount Global-owned network aims to sell BET. Over the past few weeks, we’ve heard folks like Byron Allen and Tyler Perry express interest, as well as Diddy, who already owns Revolt. We’ll keep you posted on anymore information regarding the sale of BET. However, we’re excited for the new chapter of The Breakfast Club on BET. Do you think this is a good move? A TV Anchor Who Was Fired After Using A Snoop Dogg Lyric Got Support From Whoopi Goldberg And Charlamagne Tha God

The campaign for a local TV anchor and meteorologist just grew by two. After news of Mississippi on-air talent Barbie Bassett might have been fired for using rapper Snoop Dogg’s lyric and signature catchphrase, “For sizzle, my nizzle,” social media was filled with debates. Following a segment discussing the mogul’s new wine venture, Bassett used the slang to close out the segment.

After hearing about the supposed firing through social media, Charlamagne Tha God and Whoopi Goldberg took to their respective platforms to vocalize their support for the fellow TV professional.

During Monday’s The Breakfast Club broadcast, the shock jock posed the question, “She can’t say ‘Fo shizzle, my nizzle?’” After thinking about the line further, he added, “Oh, I guess because it’s a derivative of n****,” before exclaiming, “She might not even know what nizzle means.”

The mogul said, “That’s the thing with hip-hop; hip-hop is so big and mainstream. Who can consume it, and who can’t? Who can repeat slang, and who can’t?”

Charlamagne has been in the hot seat several times for his remarks on-air and online. Pulling from his experience surrounded by controversy, he was sure to close the discussion with, “That’s not a fireable offense.”

Moved by the story, Goldberg, who was recently suspended for making “insensitive remarks” on air, also came to the anchor’s defense. As the headline was discussed amongst The View’s panelists, Goldberg passionately declared, “There has to be a book of stuff that nobody could ever say, ever, ever, ever. Include everything,” she said. “The things that change, ‘You can say this, but you can’t say that, but next week you might not be able to say this,’ it’s hard to keep up. It’s hard to keep up. And if you’re a person of a certain age, there’s stuff we do, and we say.”

Goldberg took it even further, adding, “Just because we’re on television doesn’t mean we know everything. We don’t know everything you’re not supposed to do. And if there is something someone says if you’re not going to give them the opportunity to explain why they said it, at least give them the grace of saying, ‘You know what? I’ve just been informed that I should not of done that,’ as opposed to, ‘You’re out.’”

Although the network has not released a formal statement, Bassett is no longer listed under the news team on its website. In addition, Bassett’s professional biography has also been scrubbed from the website.

Screen Shot 2023 03 28 at 1.19.02 PM

Charlamagne Tha God has come to the defense of a news presenter who hasn’t been seen on air after quoting a Snoop Dogg lyric during a live broadcast.

The presenter, Barbie Bassett of Mississippi-based NBC affiliate WLBT, has been at the TV station for decades, but was taken off the air almost immediately after using the phrase ‘fo’ shizzle my nizzle’ while they were having a discussion about the D-O-G-G.

The word ‘nizzle’ of that particular phrase set people off charging it was a racial slang but it’s unclear whether Bassett knew that.

While it hasn’t been confirmed if Bassett has been fired from her job, she hasn’t been on air or spoken out since the incident which has lead many to speculate the worst.

On his show ‘The Breakfast Club’, Charlamagne expressed his shock that something so seemingly insignificant – saying that phrase, obviously not racism or the N-word – would have led to her getting fired.

“She can’t say, ‘Fo shizzle, my nizzle?’ Oh, I guess cause nizzle is a derivative of n*****-.

“I’m saying that in context. I didn’t mean to say… I’m not using that word.”

Charlamagne seemed to argue that Bassett should have been given the benefit of the doubt, anyway.

He continued: “That’s the thing with hip hop, man. Hip-hop is so big and so mainstream, and it’s just like, who can consume it and who can’t?”

He asked, “That’s why?” to which his co-presenter DJ Envy said: “I don’t know if that’s fireable. You know what I mean? Who can repeat slang and who can’t? Who can repeat slang and who can’t? How old is that woman, yo?

“She might be old. She probably has no idea nizzle is a derivative of the N-word,” he added.

Bassett had been working for the station for 20+ years.

“She might not have any idea, she just thinks she sounded cool repeating Snoop Dogg.

“‘Fo’ shizzle my nizzle.’ That’s not a fireable offense. I hope she sues.”

DJ Envy also made comment on the fact that Bassett had been at the station for more than 20 years, but now has no job.

In the aftermath of Bassett’s absence, the station’s vice president and general manager Ted Fortenberry released a statement in which he said: “As I am sure you can understand, WLBT is unable to comment on personnel matters.”

[WATCH] DJ Envy Starts Debate For Saying 50 Cent Would Beat Lil Wayne In Verzuz Battle

Screen Shot 2023 03 24 at 12.58.21 PM

On the most recent episode of Apple Music’s Rap Life Review featuring Lowkey, Nadaska, and Eddie Francis, two of the three said that Lil Wayne would have to sequence his songs in the right order in a Verzuz battle in order to beat 50 Cent.

Lowkey said, “Wayne don’t have a Get Rich Or Die Tryin.’” I ain’t sayin’ 50 gonna wash Wayne but if Wayne’s not sequenced right, and it’s not positioned correctly, that could be a very long f***ing night.”

Envy and Charlamagne added on to the convo on The Breakfast Club with Charlamagne agreeing with Lowkey, saying, “Yes, Lil Wayne doesn’t have a Get Rich but Lil Wayne has massive, massive amounts of hits… One album cannot win you a Verzuz.” Envy cut him off by adding, “He is right… Get Rich or Die Tryin’ is a classic album but you can’t sit there and act like Lil Wayne doesn’t have classic bodies of work.”

Charlamagne said Fif “would need something more than just Get Rich Or Die Tryin’  to go against one of the top five, potentially top 3, greatest rappers alive.” DJ Envy ended the debate by saying that “50 Cent would win that battle.”

Charlamagne Tha God Says 6ix9ine Attack Was Only “a Matter Of Time”

Just about everyone has something to say about Tekashi 6ix9ine today (March 22). The rainbow-haired rapper has been a controversial figure in Hip Hop since he first emerged on the scene. 6ix9ine has used trolling tactics to gain popularity, often roping his Rap peers into social media beefs. His court case also thrust him into infamy after he cooperated with federal authorities against his former gang associates. Instead of avoiding criticism, Tekashi was released from prison and faced It head-on. There were concerns about his safety, but he only taunted the masses about being outside without security. Things caught up with him.

In videos circulating online, 6ix9ine is seen on the floor of an L.A. Fitness restroom being attacked. There were at least two assailants, and one stomped the rapper in the ribs. It looked like 6ix9ine was also kicked or punched in the face. TMZ shared a photo of the rapper in the hospital being treated for his injuries. He hasn’t spoken on the assault, but Charlamagne Tha God has a bit to say on The Breakfast Club.

6ix9ine Antagonized The Public & His Peers

The radio station touched on Tekashi’s beatdown and even played a clip from his previous interview with The Breakfast Club. In it, 6ix9ine boasted about talking recklessly because he knew that no one could touch him. “I mean, you can’t escape the energy you put out there,” Charlamagne stated about the recent altercation. “You just can’t. You get what you ask for ’cause you been asking for it. You’ve been taunting people for years, telling people to come see you, SMD, inviting that violence to happen to you. Eventually, it will. Nobody is exempt. With security or without security, if you are a person who invites violence into your life, if you online saying what you gon’ do to people when you see them, are in interviews saying that. I guarantee you it’s just a matter of time.”

Although Charlamagne believes this event was expected due to 6ix9ine’s behavior, he doesn’t see it as an opportunity to poke fun. “I see a lot of people laughing, but this isn’t a time to laugh. This is a time to learn,” he said. “I even think about it—as reckless as I’ve been over the years, I’ve never invited violence into my life. I’ve never threatened to beat up an artist. Never told an artist come see me, not that I remember. But I still got punched in the face. I still had people attempt to run down on me in the streets.

Advice From Tha God

Before concluding, Charlamagne delivered some advice to artists. “I would advise a lot of y’all out there, don’t laugh at 6ix9ine, learn from 6ix9ine. ‘Cause a lot of y’all out here are making the same mistakes yourself and gonna meet the same fate.” Watch the Rumor Report on The Breakfast club above.

Tyrese Slams Charlamagne Tha God: “You’ve Been Acting Light-Skinned Lately”

A segment on The Breakfast Club has set off Tyrese. Jason Lee was a guest host on the famed radio station and announced the release of Tyrese’s recent single, “I Don’t Think You Ever Loved Me,” a track about his divorce from ex-wife Samantha. The Fast & Furious star shared a snippet of the remix featuring 2 Chainz and Jeezy, but in the caption, he mentioned Charlamagne Tha God. Tyrese reportedly wrote, “I sent my remix to Charlamagne, and he texted back that nobody cares.” Then, Tyrese said, “I see the ex-darkie still losing sleep over me ’cause I’m still my original complexion.” The radio host previously shared that his skin cleared up after he became more healthy and quit drinking.

On the air, Charlamagne accused Tyrese of only reaching out when he wants something. “We know that in this business,” he said. “It’s always me, me, me, me, me. And he sent me that song, like, two or three times. Yo, we don’t care!” The tense history between these two runs deep, boiling over in real-time. “It gets nasty,” said DJ Envy. Charlamagne added when he told Tyrese he didn’t care about the song, the singer replied, “Light-skinned behavior.”

Tyrese Unloads On Charlamagne

Meanwhile, the singer-actor was made aware of the mention and took to Instagram to unleash on Charlamagne. Tyrese penned a scathing, lengthy caption next to a photo of Tha God. He said he put a filter on the image to make it darker, “as he used to be.” The hitmaker added, “I heard he was talking sh*t about me on the radio this morning? Damn, I don’t know what I did to you bro I thought we was cool???? Damn I heard you’ve be acting light-skinned lately it’s cool.”

Additionally, Tyrese is looking to settle the score in New York, face to face. “We gonna talk about it,” he said. “That’s not a threat. That’s an elbow. That’ll be followed by a hug 😂 [ I don’t want your support DJs. I don’t want your support Radio I don’t want your support. I NEED YOUR SUPPORT BADLY.” He then asked the public to reach out to DJs in their areas in an effort to help push his song.

Tyrese also emphasized that his song is edging into the Top 10 without a record deal. He further mentioned, “I hate that it’s about my divorce but I love that seven songs or about my current love, Zelie, because she does represent the beauty in my pain.” Swipe above to listen to The Breakfast Club discussing Tyrese.

Joe Budden Talks Slaughterhouse, Rory & Mal, Charlamagne Beef On ‘Drink Champs’

It’s time for another captivating episode of Drink Champs, and Joe Budden is comfortable in the hot seat. The rapper-turned-podcast giant knows what it’s like to be on both sides of the interviewing fence. So, when he sat with Noreaga and DJ EFN, he didn’t have a problem addressing controversial topics. The Joe Budden Podcast is a regular fixture on the ‘going viral’ news circuit, and Nore didn’t waste any time. We’ll have to wait a little longer for the entire conversation to hit streaming services, but the teaser is enough to get Hip Hop fans’ tongues wagging.

Drink Champs dropped off the teaser to Budden’s appearance, and it’s shaping to be a must-watch. Noreaga was excited for the sit down with the “Petty King” and asked Budden about his relationship with Charlamagne Tha God. “Nothing,” he said about The Breakfast Club host with a smile. “We just hate each other.” He also spoke on someone who wanted to produce him, but Budden admitted he isn’t easy to work with. He says he is “difficult to produce” because he knows his way around a studio setup.

Joe Budden Hit With Hard Questions

Budden’s tension with former podcast co-hosts Rory Farrell and Jamil “Mal” Clay was also discussed during the conversation. In 2021, the pair exited The Joe Budden Podcast bitterly and detailed their fallout with their longtime friend. N.O.R.E. questioned the “Pump It Up” hitmaker about where they all stand now, but we’ll have to wait for his full answer. It also looks like he’ll tackle all those Slaughterhouse questions, as well, so fans are waiting to hear what Budden reveals about his former collaborators…and Eminem. “I’ll take the blame. I’ll take it. I ruined everything. Everything that you love, I ruined that sh*t,” said Budden. Noreaga quickly joked, “I believe you.”

Elsewhere, Budden touched on the requests for him to return to the mic. “Nah, I think there’s a lot of people that either want to hear me rap or want to tear me down when I start rapping,” he said. Further, he addressed critics who have called him “mean” over his remarks. He denied being a cruel person but said he did “want people to continue to think that.” Check out the teaser above and let us know if you’ll be tuning in.

Angela Yee Says She Was Blamed For Things Charlamagne Tha God Did

She was once the only woman of The Breakfast Club trio, but Angela Yee has moved on. The radio and talk show host juggles several projects, including her Lip Service podcast and new venture, Way Up with Angela Yee. She was a part of The Breakfast Club for 12 years, so when she announced her departure last December, it came as a shock to fans. During her recent appearance on The Tamron Hall Show, Yee reflected on often taking heavier criticism than her male peers, Charlamagne Tha God and DJ Envy.

“My contract had been up in December, so I was already trying to figure out, ‘Am I staying here? Am I going somewhere else?’” said Yee. “And I just wanted to keep all of my options open. I never want to feel like I’m stuck somewhere.” She admitted that she also felt she took hits over something her cohorts did or said.

Audiences Shifted The Blame To Angela Yee

“Sometimes I would feel like I got it harder than [Charlamagne Tha God] did for some things that he said,” Yee added. “And so, I also want to make it clear that we’re all three individuals. You say what you say, feel how you feel, and I do too. But it’s hard because people affiliate you with the whole group.” This was the motivation she needed to launch a platform where she was seen as her own person.

“That was part of why I really wanted to have my own show because now what happens, I’m accountable for that. But when you have three different people with three different opinions or three different viewpoints and completely different personalities – we’re all individuals but sometimes it’s hard for people to separate that.”

‘The Breakfast Club’ Pushes Forward

The Breakfast Club has recently begun featuring weekly guest hosts to fill Yee’s spot. Charlamagne and Envy previously stated they weren’t sure if someone was coming in permanently because no one could replace Yee. However, their weekly guests have entertained fans and caused a bit of controversy. Check out more from Angela Yee on The Tamron Hall Show above.
