Ice Spice Turns Up The Aggression On Her Debut Album “Y2K!”

Ice Spice has excelled in terms of combing softer and harder sounds. Her flow is aggressive, but it sounds great over light, pop-friendly production. It’s why crossovers with the likes of Taylor Swift and PinkPantheress have proven so effective. Spice decides to ditch this musical tension on her new album, though. Y2K, her first outing as a solo artist, sees the rapper go full trap mode over a series of rattling instrumentals. It’s effective, even if it proves to be off-putting to some of her casual fans. The opener, “Phat Butt,” was a single, but the stuttering beat proves to be a good table setter for the rest of the album.

The aggression carries over to the second song (and first collab), “Oh Shhh…” with Travis Scott. Ice Spice flows over a trunk-rattling instrumental, and Scott provides his typical psych trap flourishes on the back end. It works here, even if the formula proves less effective on the plodding “B*tch I’m Packin’” with Gunna. Ice Spice has less chemistry with Gunna than she does Scott, or even Central Cee on “Did It First,” and the song suffers as a result. “Plenty Sun” mashes up the glitchy, Cash Cobain wave that’s trendy right now with Lex Luger horns circa 2010. If that sounds great to you on paper, then you’ll love the song. The standouts remain the singles, “Gimme a Light” and the aforementioned “Did It First.” Y2K! isn’t an amazing album, but its concise, catchy, and memorable. No complaints here.

Ice Spice Has Cleared Up Those Wild Central Cee Dating Rumors, So Everyone Can Chill Out

Ice Spice’s debut studio album, Y2K!, will be released in a few hours, and she just told Capital XTRA Breakfast that she has a “crazy” and “risky” plan for the rest of this year. Before any of that happens, though, Ice Spice addressed crazy speculation around whether she’s dating UK rapper Central Cee.

According to the newly published Rolling Stone September 2024 cover story starring Ice Spice, she told the publication that she is single.

“We’ve been friends since ‘Munch’ came out, honestly,” the Bronx-bred star said of Central Cee. “We’re just twins.”

Speculation around Central Cee and Ice Spice sparked earlier this month. Before releasing “Did It First,” their collaborative single, Central Cee and Ice Spice were seen shopping together in London. People saw that and ran with it, as they do. These TikTok videos posted by Madeline Argy, Central Cee’s ex, didn’t help.

Ice Spice also brought out Central Cee as a surprise guest during her Wireless Festival 2024 set, where they performed “Did It First.”

To Ice’s credit, she has consistently described Central Cee as a friend. As a Complex cover star last fall, Ice Spice said she and Central Cee had “become good friends over the past year ever since he hopped on ‘Munch [Remix].’” Within the same profile, Central Cee said that Ice Spice “reminds me of me a bit,” which coincides with Ice Spice saying they’re twins in the new Rolling Stone profile.

Central Cee’s Girlfriend Claps Back At Ice Spice’s Series Of Sneak Disses Amid Cheating Rumors

Over the last couple of weeks now, Central Cee and Ice Spice have really been heating up their relationship. According to his ex-girlfriend and social media influencer, Madeline Argy, them “dating” was a mischievous PR stunt for their collab “Did It First”. However, with the information and the song being out, they both certainly reveal a lot. “Gyal on my phone tryna see who I slept with / She investigating, detective / Lucky for me, I deleted the message“, Cee raps on the track. In some recent TikToks, Argy retold the story of how she found out Cee was possibly cheating on her through these bars. While we are still not exactly sure if the “Doja” MC is with Spice, the signs were enough for Argy to move on. Seeing her recent podcast episodes and social media posts, you can tell she is all over the place mentally.

Her fans have been rallying around her during the cheating rumors, all while this alleged new couple seems just fine. In fact, Ice Spice seems to even be sending some subliminal shots at Argy. According to AllHipHop, the Y2K! creator shared a TikTok of her doing some pushups with the caption, “mood after takin ha manzzz”. Argy got in the comments section simply and probably frustratingly replying with, “WHY”. Additionally, there was a since deleted TikTok of Cee’s ex doing pushups too, and Spice fans were claiming she posted that after the fact. Of course, the influencer’s supporters argued the opposite and that the rapper was taunting her.

Ice Spice & Central Cee’s Girlfriend Trade Shots

As we mentioned, Argy is running around trying to figure out exactly what happened and why it did even after the break-up. In a clip from her recent podcast, she still has no answer as to when or if any cheating went down. “Did he cheat on me? I have no idea. He blindsided me and he betrayed me, that is what I do know”. Later on, she added, “As far as I am as aware they were a PR stunt. This issue is, I was his girlfriend. So, what the f*** are you doing not telling me?”. So, yes, this whole situation is one big mess.

Ice Spice Roasted For Horrific Push-Up Form While Flexing About Stealing Central Cee

Ice Spice is one of the biggest young artists in hip-hop right now and it is all thanks to her breakout single “Munch.” Overall, this viral hit catapulted her to superstardom. She immediately got features with Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift, while also getting a brief Drake co-sign. Furthermore, she had a successful debut EP that has positioned her nicely for her debut album Y2K which is going to come out this Friday. It only has 10 songs, and we have already heard four of the singles.

Over the past week or so, Ice Spice has been making waves thanks to her supposed relationship with Central Cee. Many have stated that this was all for publicity although the jury is still out on that. What we do know is that Central Cee’s ex is not happy with what she has seen. As a result, Ice Spice opted to pour some salt in the wound by taking to IG and doing some push-ups. It was here where she said “mood after takin ha manzzz.” Unfortunately for Ice Spice, her push-up form left a lot to be desired.

Ice Spice Seemingly Responds To Central Cee’s Ex-Girlfriend Call Out Of The Rappers’ Rumored Romance

Apparently, Ice Spice and Central Cee’s plan to ride off into the lover’s sunset hasn’t been smooth sailing for everyone involved. The “Did It First” collaborators’ rumored romance is currently under fire. But it appears Ice Spice wants all the smoke.

Yesterday (July 12), Central Cee’s ex-girlfriend and media personality, Madeline Argy, slammed the pair’s coupling while alleging it is all a part of a “marketing scheme.” Argy posted a photo of herself surrounded by guns in her Instagram Stories, captioned: “Me rn.”

Today (July 13), Ice Spice took to her official X (formerly Twitter) to seeming issue a subtle response of her own. “Ain’t trippin da grip in my purse,” she captioned a photo of her and Central Cee.

Yesterday, in a series of video posted on TikTok, Madeline Argy outlined when she learned that her former boo, Central Cee and Ice Spice were supposedly an item.

According to Madeline Argy, after she learned Central Cee sent Ice Spice his personal vehicle as transport to the studio, she didn’t know where they stood. “I was with you guys knees deep in that comment section asking if we were still together,” she said. “I tried to have a conversation with him, but all he kept saying was, ‘Alright.’”

She then accused Central Cee after using their couple’s trip to further fuel his “marketing scheme” as a way to roll out his collaboration with Ice Spice.

Watch Madeline Argy videos below.

Central Cee’s Ex-Girlfriend Claims She’s Being Gaslit To Promote New Music

Central Cee is one of the fastest-rising stars in hip-hop. He’s dominated UK charts, and thanks to recent collaborations with Ice Spice, he’s crossing over with American audiences. One person who is not thrilled about this ascent, however, is Cee’s ex-girlfriend. Madeline Argy recently hopped on social media to talk about the rapper. She not only outed him for being unfaithful, but claimed she was being manipulated by his PR team so that he could promote a bad boy persona.

Madeline Argy laid out experiences with Central Cee over the course of four Instagram videos. “I did know that any of this was going to f*cking happen,” she said at the onset. From there, she recalled hearing a song in which the rapper details hooking up with someone else. “Not only did you just snitch on yourself that you’re cheating,” Argy explained. “But you just told me exactly how.” Cee dismissed the whole thing as being marketing for his persona, and Argy claims she let the incident slide. Until, that is, Central Cee allegedly started a dating rumor with another girl.

Central Cee’s Ex Was Told That His Cheating Was An Act

The lack of communication frustrated Argy so much that she ended the relationship. A day later, she noticed Central Cee was cozying up to Ice Spice. “I didn’t even actually get to break up with him [in person],” she said. “And he’s already with the next girl. He gave me not even 12 hours notice before he was being filmed with her.” Central Cee’s ex claimed that she was reading about the demise of her own relationship in the comment section, like one of the rapper’s fans.

Madeline Argy said that Central Cee then attempted to contact her via email and phone, before a member of his PR team called. “So his team is calling me, trying to convince me to have a conversation with him,” she noted. “And they’re trying to tell me like he had no control over this and I’m trying to get the point across: it doesn’t matter if he had control. I never agreed to this.” Regardless of the reasoning behind Central Cee’s behavior, or how it’s boosting his career, Argy is clearly done putting up with it.

Ice Spice Gets Mad, Then Gets Even With ‘Did It First’ Featuring Central Cee

Half UK drill, half Jersey club, Ice Spice’s new song is 100 percent her own. The Bronx baddie brings her drill sound full-circle with “Did It First,” teaming up with UK sensation Central Cee (sorry, shippers) to assert her trendsetter status. Over a propulsive, percussive beat, the two rappers trade verses detailing their anti-romantic shenanigans, which are best summed up in the hook. “If he’s cheatin’, I’m doin’ him worse,” Ice asserts. “No UNO, I hit the reverse / I ain’t trippin’, the grip in my purse / I don’t care, ’cause he did it first.”

“Did It First” is the latest single from Ice Spice’s upcoming debut album, Y2K!, which she first began teasing late last year. After dropping the Latto diss track, “Think U The Sh*t (Fart),” she revealed the album’s title in January, she said the album was complete in March, then followed up with “Gimmie A Light” in May.

So far, the only part of the album’s rollout that hasn’t worked was the reveal of the cover art, which fans questioned due to the placement of the title on a trash can. Still, Ice Spice shrugged off the bad vibes, then dropped a new single, “Phat Butt,” which helped her keep the attention firmly where it belongs — on the music.

You can watch the “Did It First” video above.

Y2K! will be out on July 26 via 10K Projects and Capitol Records.

Ice Spice And Central Cee Skate On Addictive New Single “Did It First”

Ice Spice busts out the Ice Spice flow on every song. It’s what she does best, and what fans want to hear. The most interesting element of her album rollout, however, has been the different instrumentals that she’s hopped on. “Phat Butt” had a rattling trap beat, while “Gimme a Light” dabbled in dancehall. “Did It First” is another change of pace, and it might be her most effective yet. The instrumental, with its stuttering drums, is right in line with the “sexy trap” that producers like Cash Cobain have popularized. It’s the looping vocal sample, however, that gives “Did It First” a distinct Y2K vibe.

“Did It First” sounds like a pop-ified version of aughts hyperdub. It sounds pretentious to describe on these terms, sure, but there’s something undeniably retro about the song that plays to its benefit. Yes, Ice Spice is using the Ice Spice flow, and unsurprisingly, it sounds good. She’s trash talking her haters, and describing the ways in which she’s going to disrespect them. Spice then passes the mantle off to Central Cee, who manages to ride the beat in a complimentary yet distinct manner. Cee is blowing up stateside, so linking up with him was a cagey decision. That’s not to say the results are fun. These two have chemistry, as evidenced by Y2K-drenched music video. Hopefully the rest of the album follows suit.
