Today In Hip Hop History: Cam’Ron Dropped His ‘Purple Haze’ Album 19 Years Ago

On this date in 2004, Cam’Ron released his fourth solo album entitled ‘Purple Haze’ released on the Diplomats, Roc-A-Fella, and Def Jam imprints.

This was the first solo album from the Dipset capo following the Dipset craze, where he switched from his obsession with the color pink to the more regal purple. Songs such as the anthemic “Down And Out” featuring a fairly new artist named Kanye West and Syleena Johnson, “Bubble Music” and “Adrenaline” featuring Twista and Psycho Drama help to popularize the highly anticipated album that took about a year to be released following several label delays during the Roc-A-Fella break up.

The album was propelled by samples from old soul and reggae music, which only helped to add to the LP’s popularity.

Salute to Cam, Dipset, and everyone involved with this timeless Hip Hop gem!

Mase’s Reflection on Cam’ron’s Unwavering Support: A Baseball Bat and Brotherhood

Mase's Reflection on Cam'ron's Unwavering Support: A Baseball Bat and Brotherhood

In the tumultuous world of hip-hop, where alliances and friendships are often tested, moments of unwavering support stand out as powerful symbols of camaraderie. One such unforgettable moment involves Mase and Cam’ron, where the latter defended Mase from the formidable Dame Dash with nothing but a baseball bat. The incident not only underscores the complexities of the music industry but also highlights the strength of genuine friendships in the face of adversity.

The story unfolds in the late ’90s when Mase, known for his smooth flow and infectious hooks, faced a heated conflict with Dame Dash, a prominent music and fashion industry figure. The details of the dispute remain somewhat shrouded in hip-hop lore, but what is clear is that tensions reached a boiling point, leading to a confrontation that could have escalated into something far more dire.

Enter Cam’ron, the Harlem-based rapper and longtime friend of Mase. In a show of unwavering loyalty, Cam’ron reportedly stepped in to defend Mase from Dame Dash, armed with nothing but a baseball bat. The image of a rapper standing up for his friend with a seemingly unconventional choice of weapon became etched in hip-hop history, a testament to the lengths true friends are willing to go to protect each other.

Mase, reflecting on this incident years later, acknowledged the profound impact of Cam’ron’s intervention. In an industry often characterized by competition and rivalry, the sight of a friend literally wielding a baseball bat in defense is a powerful symbol of loyalty. It speaks to the bonds formed in the trenches of Harlem, where artists faced the challenges of the music business and the complexities of personal relationships.

The incident prompts reflection on the multifaceted nature of the hip-hop world, where collaborations and creative partnerships are often intertwined with personal relationships. Mase and Cam’ron’s friendship goes beyond the confines of a recording studio or stage, transcending into a brotherhood forged in the crucible of their shared experiences and struggles.

Moreover, the baseball bat incident serves as a reminder of the precarious nature of success in the music industry. As artists navigate the ever-changing landscape, the support of genuine friends becomes an invaluable anchor. Cam’ron’s bold defense of Mase underscores the significance of having allies who will stand by you in moments of triumph and during times of conflict and adversity.

In conclusion, Mase’s reflection on Cam’ron defending him from Dame Dash with a baseball bat offers a glimpse into the profound bonds formed in hip-hop. Beyond the beats and rhymes, the incident speaks to the importance of friendship and loyalty in an industry where alliances are constantly tested. As Mase revisits this chapter in his life, it serves as a reminder that, in the face of challenges, true friends are willing to swing for the fences to protect one another.

Mase Reveals Paul George Confronted Him Over Cam’Ron’s Podcast Comments

Mase and Cam’ron are no strangers to discussing fellow celebrities on their podcast It Is What It Is. That often includes sports coverage as they’re both big sports fans, though sometimes it can get them into hot water. Earlier this year they found themselves receiving some backlash over a segment they did about concerning allegations made against Dwight Howard. In the clip, they seem to primarily take issue with Howard’s sexuality more so than the actual concerning accusations he’s facing.

They’ve also been known to talk about Paul George in particular quite a bit in the past. The two hosts recently appeared on the Stephen A. Smith Show where they talked about how that made an actual encounter with George a bit awkward. Cam explains that he brought up Paul George after Hornets rookie Brandon Miller called him the GOAT. “I went crazy and said I don’t know what this kid is smokin,’ I don’t know where he’s been but he’s out his damn mind sayin’ Paul George is the GOAT,” he explained. But Cam wasn’t the one who had to account for his comments. Check out the full podcast episode below.

Mase Dealing With Reactions To Cam’Ron’s Comments

Cam explained that Ma$e eventually ran into Paul George in person. “Fast-forward three weeks later, Paul George sees Ma$e at Summer League and says, ‘Why I can’t be the GOAT? What’s goin’ on, Ma$e? Tell Cam why I can’t be the GOAT?’” Ma$e explains that he didn’t know how to handle the situation and ended up just calling Cam. When he picked up Ma$e said “Yo Cam, Paul George and them got me surrounded right now — why you say he can’t be the GOAT?”

Earlier this month the pair once again drew attention for something they said on their podcast. In the clip, they said they would choose DMX over Tupac in a best rapper debate, which many fans disagreed with. What do you think of Ma$e’s story about being confronted by Paul George over Cam’Ron’s comments? Let us know in the comment section below.

Cam’ron And Ma$e Choose DMX Over Tupac As The Better Rapper, Fans Weigh In

Pitting rappers against each other and debating who is better, creates a fun discussion. There are so many angles and points you can make for each artist. The conversations can go on for hours, and some can go on for years. Over the course of the 50-year history of the genre, so many legendary names are a part of these sometimes heated arguments. Kanye West versus Drake, Future and Young Thug, and Eminem versus Jay-Z are just a few. Another one that may be closer than you think is Tupac and DMX. Usually ‘Pac and Biggie are thrown into the ring together. Cam’ron and Ma$e were recently asked who they would choose between two legends from the East Coast.

Million Dollaz Worth of Game, the podcast hosted by Gillie Da Kid and Wallo, had the hosts of It Is What It Is on, according to AllHipHop. As we said, this conversation is much closer than some may initially think. Both of them have a global and cultural impact that is unmatched. That is why the pressure was sort of high for Cam’ron to pick someone. As we also said, these conversations can turn ugly in an instant. However, both eventually went on to select the “X Gon’ Give It To Ya” rapper.

Cam’ron & Ma$e Get The Debate Rolling

Essentially, both of them came to the same conclusion. That being that people would go insane at his shows and that they could easily recite his tracks word for word. Cam’ron also had some bias because he had the opportunity to work with DMX before his untimely passing. Some were in agreeance with the two show hosts, while some others respectfully disagreed. One person replied, “X is really one of, if not the most underrated under-appreciated rappers all time. And as a performer he’s legendary But Pac is generational man Kids in Gaza know Pac.” Of course, Cam and Ma$e highly respect ‘Pac, but for them, it came down to personal experience and actually getting to be around X.

What are your initial thoughts on Cam’ron and Ma$e picking DMX over Tupac as the better rapper? Who do you prefer in this debate? What is your favorite DMX song and which is your favorite of Tupac’s? We would like to know what you have to say about all of this. With that in mind, be sure to leave all of your hottest takes in the comments section below. Cam’ron And Mase Thought DMX Was A Better Rapper Than Tupac And Here’s Why

Cam’ron and Mase recently appeared on the Million Dollaz Worth Of Game podcast, where they were asked, “Who was better: DMX or Tupac?”

Despite seeing the bait for what it was, both Cam and Mase dove in with thoughtful answers as both agreed that DMX was better.

However, rather than being driven by East/West Coast rivalries or their personal feelings about either man, Cam said his decision was based on getting to see X’s come up personally. As he put it, “I got see… from when he was in the tenement rappin’ to sellin’ ten, twenty, however millions of records he sold.”

Meanwhile, Mase pointed to how whole arenas would recite DMX’s lyrics, noting, “I think a lot of times, because you learn the flaws of n****s, you forget how great n****s really were.” You can check out a clip of them talking about the debate below.

Ever since Cam and Mase squashed their long-running feud last year, the two Harlem natives have proven to be utterly captivating podcast partners, whether on their own show talking about NBA rumors, or as guests on other shows addressing their long and storied careers. It was Cam’ron who first broke the news that Mase had gotten his publishing from Diddy, and they’ve teased new music to come.

Cam’ron Clowns Mase For Wearing SKIMS: “Every Time I Say Something, I’m Bullying”

Cam’ron and Mase’s sports talk show It Is What It Is goes beyond athletics into pretty much every topic under the sun. As two seasoned MCs, they have a lot to say about the rap game, and as seasoned celebrities, they have a lot of unique perspectives on pop culture. One of these takes came concerning Kim Kardashian’s SKIMS clothing brand, which recently became an official partner of the NBA. In fact, Killa Cam couldn’t help but squint at his co-host when he revealed that he tried on a piece from the brand when he heard this news. The “Mo’ Money Mo’ Problems” spitter actually enjoyed how it fit, and the Dipset leader had to hold his tongue.

“I’m not gon’ lie,” Mase began his remarks on the shape-wear brand, which caused Cam’ron to prepare for some unfortunate roasts. “When I put the SKIMS tank top on, my ribs stopped hurting. So shoutout to SKIMS. I wouldn’t wear it, wear it but somebody sent it to me and I wanted to see. It wasn’t the one-piece, it was just the tank top.”

The SKIMS discussion starts around the 51-minute mark.

“I’m not gon’ say nothing because every time I say something, I’m bullying,” Cam’ron responded. “I’m Cam ‘Take It Too Far.’ I make somebody’s blog, I make somebody’s morning show. Myself, I’m not gonna talk about SKIMS three times in one week. If SKIMS helps your ribs out, fine. I talk about SKIMS then I talk about Kim Kardashian, then n***as go, ‘Oh, Cam went too far that week.’ F**k it, let’s do it. They pushing an agenda in the NBA, man. There’s agendas being pushed. They see what’s going on with Taylor Swift in the NFL, who could we get here?

“Now we got Kim and Taylor in the top two sports in America,” he went on. “And it’s a Kim Kardashian situation in the NBA and a Taylor Swift situation in the NFL. Do you know that the Kansas City Chiefs- and maybe we’ll talk about this on Sunday or Monday when we come back next week. But I want to bring this stat up. When Taylor Swift is in attendance, the Chiefs are 4-0 and Travis Kelce is averaging 108 yards per game. When she’s not there, they’re 2-2 and he’s averaging 50 yards per game.” For more news and the latest updates on Cam’ron, Mase, and SKIMS, keep checking in with HNHH.

Cam’ron Dresses As Tupac And Cracks Jokes About Jada Pinkett Smith

Jada Pinkett Smith, Tupac, and Will Smith have all three been in the news a lot lately. For Jada and Will, that’s come primarily through a series of bombshell interviews done to promote Jada’s newly released memoir. In those interviews, she’s revealed some major info about their relationship, including the fact that they’ve been living entirely separate lives since 2016. Tupac has also been wrapped up in that story as Jada called him her “soulmate.” That combined with Keefe D’s arrest and pending trial for his role in the murder of Tupac means that the legendary rapper has been on a lot of people’s minds recently.

Now, Cam’ron is weighing in. Always the jokester, he took to Instagram to share a picture of himself dressed up as Tupac with a caption referencing one of the rapper’s classic songs and the ongoing Jada drama. “Picture me rolling. On da way to meet jada,” he hilariously captioned the post. Fans in the comments also joked, many about Cam’s outfit choice. “That’s not a vest. That a corset Cam,” one of the top comments jokes. “That vest give me ayoo vibes,” another agrees. Check out the post and various fan reactions below.

Cam’Ron Joking At Jada Pinkett’s Expense

Cam’ron recently grabbed the mic once again to take on a newly released single from J. Cole and Lil Yachty. Cole referenced Cam on the song which inspired him to hop on the beat and deliver his own verse. He shared a freestyle over the beat for “The Secret Recipe” last week and its since racked up over 136k likes on Instagram.

What Cam’ron does more often recently is make wild takes on his podcast It Is What It Is. Most recently, he gave his take on Russel Wilson, the quarterback for the Denver Broncos who has struggled immensely recently. Cam thinks that WIlson leaving his wife Ciara is the secret to helping him improve his play on the field. What do you think of Cam’ron’s Tupac fit and jokes about Jada Pinkett Smith? Cam’ron Refutes “Old” Troll Jokes: “I Had A Million When I Was 20, How Much You Got?”

Cam’ron is a hip-hop veteran, one that helped define the genre in the East Coast in the 2000s and remains a pivotal voice in the culture. Nowadays, it’s through a bit of a different lens, given the massive success of his sports talk show with Ma$e, It Is What It Is. Moreover, it’s still great to see the Dipset member be a part of the game, whether that’s occasional performances, releases, or just being part of the conversation. Still, with that experience and knowledge gained over a long time, plenty of people will try to downplay your impact, especially those that don’t know your full history. As such, he carved out a time slot of It Is What It Is to address haters calling him old.

“Listen, let me tell you something about being older,” Cam’ron’s remarks about being called a dinosaur began. “The n***as be like, ‘Oh, you’re old this, that, and the third.’ All older means is I know everything you know and more. I look just as good as you, and I f**k the b***hes that’s your age, and I get more money than you, n***a.

Cam’ron Goes Off On Haters Calling Him Old: Watch

“So you can get the f**k out my face with that s**t, n***a,” Cam’ron continued his hilarious and animated rant. “I’m talking to them n***as in the early 20s. I’m not talking teenage; n***as 20 to 25. ‘Oh, n***as old.’ I had a million when I was 20, shawty, how much you got? Still getting mad millions and I look better than you because you on drugs You know what’s dope about this? I could bone your girlfriend and your mother. So be easy talking to me when you 20 to 25 talking that older s**t. I love it here.”

Meanwhile, the New York MC can be just as cutting and unfiltered in his football analysis, as Russell Wilson recently learned the hard way. Cam had the bright idea for him to dump Ciara in order to improve his game, which seems like quite the extreme solution. He and Ma$e make for a great on-air team, and whether it’s sports or music-related, seeing them find this platform has been a treat. Cam’ron Compares His Relationship With Just Blaze To Russell Wilson And Marshawn Lynch’s: Watch

Just a few days ago former NFL running back and Super Bowl champion, Marshawn Lynch went on to Shannon Sharpe’s podcast Club Shay Shay. One of the topics that came up was how rocky his relationship was with Seattle Seahawks head coach, Pete Carroll, but more importantly, Russell Wilson. He stated that they never really hung out beyond the confines of the organization. Additionally, he revealed that when Wilson would call him it was through a blocked number and he was not polite during their chats. It has made its way around social media and one of the people to talk about it was rapper Cam’ron.

His sports talk show, It Is What It Is, is seeing some tremendous success after signing a huge contract. The Harlem icon discussed this topic about Russ and Marshawn, using a personal relationship to explain how messy the former teammates’ connection is. Cam’ron is acting as Lynch in this scenario and he using his former work partner Just Blaze as Russell. Let us just say he sends some strays towards the DJ.

Cam’ron’s story is a little all over the place in the clips above. However, the basic jist of it all, is that Blaze had a beat for Cam and it was not cleared. They could have made a lot more money if it was tidied up behind the scenes but, Cam did not really care about all of that. He just wanted to have a hit song and he did not appreciate how technical Blaze was at that time. He says all of this to say that it was more important to ditch the play call that cost the Seahawks a ring when Wilson threw the interception in the endzone. Instead, they could have done it the easier way by handing it off to Lynch at the 1-yard line. Essentially, sometimes it is more about working smarter not harder than it needs to be.

What are your initial thoughts on Cam’ron’s statements about his relationship with Just Blaze and how it measures up with Russell Wilson and Marshawn Lynch’s? Do you think it is an accurate anecdote to use? Were you surprised to hear about both of these stories? We would like to hear what you have to say about all of this. With that in mind, be sure to leave all of your thoughts and opinions in the comments section below.
