LeBron James Shares Relieving News About Bronny’s Chances To Play For USC

It feels like the sports world has been anxiously waiting for the news surrounding LeBron James’ oldest son, Bronny, and his health. Just over two months ago he suffered a terrifying cardiac arrest during a workout at USC’s Galen Center. This occurred shortly after Buffalo Bill’s cornerback Damar Hamlin went through a similar thing. The sports community and the rest of the world surrounded the James family with tons of support during the rough time.

Luckily and thankfully, Bronny’s surgery went smoothly. He was back in the public eye just a few days later. Back in August, we got word on what caused this to happen. According to the medical professionals who attended to Bronny, it is an anatomically and functionally significant Congenital Heart Defect. These happen at birth, according to the CDC. “They can affect how blood flows through the heart and out to the rest of the body. CHDs can vary from mild (such as a small hole in the heart) to severe (such as missing or poorly formed parts of the heart).”

Cause Of Bronny James’ Cardiac Arrest Revealed

Fans were left shocked and concerned, after it was reported that Bronny James collapsed during basketball practice at USC last month. The 18-year-old college athlete, and LeBron James’ oldest son, was rushed to the hospital to be treated. He was later said to be in stable condition, coming as a relief to supporters. With that being said, the frightening incident still left many wondering what this could mean for the young player’s future in the sport. Now, a spokesperson for the James family has provided a highly-anticipated update on his health.

“After a comprehensive initial evaluation at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center led by Dr. Merije Chukumerije and follow-up evaluations at the Mayo Clinic led by Dr. Michael J. Ackerman and Atlantic Health/Morristown Medical Center led by Dr. Matthew W. Martinez, the probable cause of Mr. James’ sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) has been identified,” they shared.

“It is an anatomically and functionally significant Congenital Heart Defect which can and will be treated,” they revealed. Luckily, the spokesperson went on to say that the basketball player is likely to make his return to the court sometime soon. “We are very confident in Bronny’s full recovery and return to basketball in the very near future. We will continue to provide updates to media and respectfully reiterate the family’s request for privacy.”

The statement echoes that of another young athlete who’s also been diagnosed with a congenital heart defect. Shaq’s son, Shareef O’Neal, underwent open-heart surgery in 2018 for his own condition. “He’s good,” O’Neal said of Bronny earlier this month. “I don’t think it will affect anything.” Fans were holding out hope that O’Neal was right, and are now relieved to hear that he was. Drake Gave A Heartfelt Speech Explaining Why LeBron James Is His ‘Brother’ During An LA Concert

Drake and 21 Savage continued their It’s All A Blur Tour in Los Angeles over the weekend — and keeping with the trend of bringing surprise guests. While Kendall Jenner and SZA have already popped up at past LA dates, the recent celebs had the crowd going wild.

None other than LeBron James and his son Bronny (who is doing “great” after his recent health scare) joined the rappers on stage. On the way through the crowd to get there, Drake also signed a fan’s copy of his poetry book. The Toronto performer was also paying tribute by wearing the Lakers colors.

Then, when Drake was on stage, he gave a heartfelt speech to LeBron. “The gentleman that walked me to stage tonight is my brother,” he said. “In 2009, when nobody believed in anything I had going on, that same guy showed up to a release party for a mixtape that was called So Far Gone.”

“He came all the way to Toronto, Canada to support me, when I was trying to figure out how I can live my dreams,” Drake added.

Drake and LeBron have continued to stay close for a while. Back in 2018, he appeared on an episode of LeBron’s HBO series, The Shop, where he opened up about his son, Adonis, and the two dads bonded over raising their kids.

A few years later in 2020, Drake went with LeBron to watch Bronny play at his high school basketball game. “My young demons doing numbers,” Drake posted when Bronny’s team won, according to HotNewHipHop.

This makes the fact that LeBron brought his son to Drake’s show all the more special.

Check out Drake entering the stage with LeBron and Bronny, and his speech, above.

Drake Walks Out With LeBron James & Bronny At Los Angeles Tour Stop

Drake and 21 S*vage have had no shortage of superstars arrive as special guests for their “It’s All A Blur” tour. Moreover, for their trek of shows in California, the Los Angeles crowd went absolutely ballistic for the latest duo to accompany the 6 God to the stage. None other than LeBron James of the Lakers and his son Bronny accompanied the OVO mogul as he went down the stairs and through rows of adoring fans on his way to the stage. What’s more is that he even took the time to sign a fan’s copy of his poetry book on the way. With two titans of their respective fields in the same room, you can imagine how electric the energy was.

Furthermore, it seems like the NBA superstar and his family actually really enjoy a good concert or two. Recently, LeBron James was spotted at a Brent Faiyaz show having a vibey and chilled-out time, so a show like Drake and 21’s must make for a more mood-mixing experience. After all, the 36-year-old has as many soft jams as he does bangers in his discography. If nothing else, this is another point of the long board of the two’s history together as solid comrades and good friends.

Bronny & LeBron James Walk Drake Out In Los Angeles

Not only that, but said support extends to Bronny’s basketball career, which Drake also supports to this day. Back in 2020, he accompanied LeBron to watch his son’s game courtside, and they all seemed to enjoy their outing together. With this recent tour stop in mind, we can only imagine what other noteworthy guests will pop out during the “It’s All A Blur” run. Each new concert seems to hold another name to go wild over, or some antic or announcement that sets social media ablaze.

Meanwhile, it’s quite interesting to see how the two’s career trajectories yielded similar paths. Both are at the top of their games, amassing a heap of haters and doubters amid heaps upon heaps of supporters. In addition, they’re both in places where they should be closing up shop soon, but seem far from doing so. As such, there’s no reason not to be excited for what’s to come from them- and from an emerging and bright talent like Bronny. LeBron, Bronny, And Bryce James Enjoy Dodgers Game

LeBron James and his two sons, Bronny and Bryce, recently visited Dodger Stadium to see the Dodgers beat the Marlins. The trio appeared to have been in good spirits based on photos, which comes as a relief to fans following the 18-year-old’s recent health scare. It was LeBron James bobble-head night, meaning that fans had an opportunity to get a free souvenir in honor of the NBA star. He also received a massive check of $100K to go towards his LeBron James Family Foundation.

At the end of July, Bronny suffered a cardiac arrest during basketball practice at the University of Southern California. He was rushed to the hospital where he was stabilized, and released a few days later. He appears to have been doing well after the incident, however, it’s left some wondering how his health could impact his future in the sport. Shaquille O’Neal’s son, who’s played amid his own health struggles, weighed in earlier this week.

Shareef O’Neal underwent open heart surgery back in 2018 to treat a heart condition. He gave a promising response to questions about Bronny, claiming that “He’s good.” He added that the health scare shouldn’t have an impact on his career in sports. “I don’t think it will affect anything,” the 23-year-old explained.

Following the news of his son’s cardiac arrest, LeBron took to X to thank fans for their support. “I want to thank the countless people sending my family love and prayers,” he wrote. “We feel you and I’m so grateful. Everyone doing great. We have our family together, safe and healthy, and we feel your love. Will have more to say when we’re ready but I wanted to tell everyone how much your support has meant to all of us! #JamesGang.”

Shareef O’Neal Offers Encouraging Update About Bronny James’ Basketball Future

Bronny James continues to recover after suffering a cardiac arrest while training at USC on in late July. James, the 18-year-old son of LeBron James, spent time in the ICU but was transferred out of the unit after a few hours. Speaking after James was discharged from the hospital later the same week, Merije Chukumerije, a doctor with the Cedars Sinai Medical Group, gave a more detailed update on his condition. “Although his workup will be ongoing, we are hopeful for his continued progress and are encouraged by his response, resilience, and his family and community support.” Furthermore, Chukumerije said that James arrived at hospital “fully conscious, neurologically intact and stable.”

The news came hours after LeBron James made his first public statement following his son’s collapse. “I want to thank the countless people sending my family love and prayers. We feel you and I’m so grateful. Everyone doing great. We have our family together, safe and healthy, and we feel your love. Will have more to say when we’re ready but I wanted to tell everyone how much your support has meant to all of us! #JamesGang👑,” LeBron wrote on X. LeBron has since accompanied his son to the famed Mayo Clinic in Minnesota for a deeper investigation into what caused the health scare. However, someone with their own experience of heart issues and basketball doesn’t appear too concerned.

Shareef O’Neal Says Bronny James Will Be Fine

Speaking with TMZ, Shareef O’Neal, the son of NBA legend Shaq, said that Bronny was going to be fine. “He’s good,” O’Neal said, elaborating that he had spoke with Bronny via phone in recent weeks. “I don’t think it will affect anything,” O’Neal continued when asked about the long-term impact on Bronny’s career. Of course, Bronny is actually the second USC player to suffer a cardiac arrest in the past two years. Forward Vincent Iwuchukwu suffered a cardiac arrest in July 2022 before returning to play 14 games for the Trojans in his freshman year.

O’Neal knows what he’s talking about when it comes to heart issues. In 2018, O’Neal underwent open-heart surgery to correct an irregularity. Redshirting the 2018-19 season, O’Neal played the 2019-20 season for UCLA before transferring to LSU, his father’s alma mater. He went undrafted during the 2022 NBA Draft and is currently signed with the G League Ignite developmental team.
