Damar Hamlin’s New Tattoo Commemorates Cardiac Arrest Survival

Damar Hamlin has received a new tattoo as the one-year anniversary of his shocking cardiac arrest passed on January 2. The new piece, located on the back of Hamlin’s neck, shows a pair of hands forming a heart shape around a heartbeat. The piece was done by tattoo artist Alexander Brenes and went viral on Instagram after Hamlin posted it.

Hamlin, who recovered in time for the 2023 season, has played sparingly for the Bills throughout the season. Appearing in just five games, Hamlin has recorded two tackles this season for the team. The Bills are currently 10-6 and will likely make the playoffs even if they lose to the Dolphins in Week 18. However, beating the Dolphins could see the Bills win the division on the final day thanks to a head-to-head tiebreaker. Hamlin is currently listed as a questionable for the game against Miami.

Zion Williamson Clowned For New Tattoo

However, Damar Hamlin isn’t the only athlete getting some new ink. Zion Williamson recently showed off a prominent new tattoo on his chest of a large cross with a snarling lion peeking through it. However, the design was thoroughly clowned online as it is slightly off-center. The meaning behind the tattoo is unclear but Williamson appeared pretty happy with the design. What do you think of the tattoo? Let us know in the comments.

However, several other commenters remarked that Williamson should be focusing on his fitness and not new ink. This comes after Williamson’s alleged ex, porn star Moriah Mills, told Williamson to “get on the treadmill” and cut things like soda from his diet. Furthermore, the final three years of Williamson’s contract recently became non-guaranteed due to the significant amount of time he has missed due to injury in recent seasons. While Williamson can earn back guaranteed protection, the Grizzlies are currently able to cut him after the 2024/25 season without financial penalty. The contract change came into effect as Williamson missed more than 22 games last season.

LeBron James Confirms Bronny Is Headed “In The Right Direction” Following Cardiac Arrest

LeBron James says that his son, Bronny, is headed “in the right direction,” after suffering cardiac arrest during a USC practice in July. He provided the update while speaking with reporters at a post-game press conference on Monday.

“Things are going in the right direction with Bronny’s progress,” LeBron said. “He’s doing rehab. Every week he gets to do more and more and more. We have a big moment at the end of this month to see if we can continue to go forward. If he’s cleared, we’ll be not too long away from him being back on the floor and back with his teammates and practicing, with the notion of being back on the floor and playing in game situations.”

Bronny went into cardiac arrest while participating in a basketball workout at the university in July. The next month, his family announced he was diagnosed with “an anatomically and functionally significant congenital heart defect.” Then, in October, LeBron confirmed that Bronny underwent “successful” surgery to correct the problem. “Bronny is doing extremely well. He’s began his rehab to get back on the floor this season.” USC Basketball coach Andy Enfield also confirmed that Bronny wasn’t practicing to start the season but added: “Bronny’s doing very well, but we just can’t comment on anything medically. He’s going to class and doing extremely well in school, and we’re really excited for him.”

Bronny committed to play his college basketball at USC, earlier this year. At the time, LeBron said it was “one of the best days of my life.” Be on the lookout for further updates on when Bronny hits the court for USC on HotNewHipHop.

Cause Of Bronny James’ Cardiac Arrest Revealed

Fans were left shocked and concerned, after it was reported that Bronny James collapsed during basketball practice at USC last month. The 18-year-old college athlete, and LeBron James’ oldest son, was rushed to the hospital to be treated. He was later said to be in stable condition, coming as a relief to supporters. With that being said, the frightening incident still left many wondering what this could mean for the young player’s future in the sport. Now, a spokesperson for the James family has provided a highly-anticipated update on his health.

“After a comprehensive initial evaluation at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center led by Dr. Merije Chukumerije and follow-up evaluations at the Mayo Clinic led by Dr. Michael J. Ackerman and Atlantic Health/Morristown Medical Center led by Dr. Matthew W. Martinez, the probable cause of Mr. James’ sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) has been identified,” they shared.

“It is an anatomically and functionally significant Congenital Heart Defect which can and will be treated,” they revealed. Luckily, the spokesperson went on to say that the basketball player is likely to make his return to the court sometime soon. “We are very confident in Bronny’s full recovery and return to basketball in the very near future. We will continue to provide updates to media and respectfully reiterate the family’s request for privacy.”

The statement echoes that of another young athlete who’s also been diagnosed with a congenital heart defect. Shaq’s son, Shareef O’Neal, underwent open-heart surgery in 2018 for his own condition. “He’s good,” O’Neal said of Bronny earlier this month. “I don’t think it will affect anything.” Fans were holding out hope that O’Neal was right, and are now relieved to hear that he was. Keep an eye on HNHH for more updates on Bronny James.

Shareef O’Neal Offers Encouraging Update About Bronny James’ Basketball Future

Bronny James continues to recover after suffering a cardiac arrest while training at USC on in late July. James, the 18-year-old son of LeBron James, spent time in the ICU but was transferred out of the unit after a few hours. Speaking after James was discharged from the hospital later the same week, Merije Chukumerije, a doctor with the Cedars Sinai Medical Group, gave a more detailed update on his condition. “Although his workup will be ongoing, we are hopeful for his continued progress and are encouraged by his response, resilience, and his family and community support.” Furthermore, Chukumerije said that James arrived at hospital “fully conscious, neurologically intact and stable.”

The news came hours after LeBron James made his first public statement following his son’s collapse. “I want to thank the countless people sending my family love and prayers. We feel you and I’m so grateful. Everyone doing great. We have our family together, safe and healthy, and we feel your love. Will have more to say when we’re ready but I wanted to tell everyone how much your support has meant to all of us! #JamesGang👑,” LeBron wrote on X. LeBron has since accompanied his son to the famed Mayo Clinic in Minnesota for a deeper investigation into what caused the health scare. However, someone with their own experience of heart issues and basketball doesn’t appear too concerned.

Shareef O’Neal Says Bronny James Will Be Fine

Speaking with TMZ, Shareef O’Neal, the son of NBA legend Shaq, said that Bronny was going to be fine. “He’s good,” O’Neal said, elaborating that he had spoke with Bronny via phone in recent weeks. “I don’t think it will affect anything,” O’Neal continued when asked about the long-term impact on Bronny’s career. Of course, Bronny is actually the second USC player to suffer a cardiac arrest in the past two years. Forward Vincent Iwuchukwu suffered a cardiac arrest in July 2022 before returning to play 14 games for the Trojans in his freshman year.

O’Neal knows what he’s talking about when it comes to heart issues. In 2018, O’Neal underwent open-heart surgery to correct an irregularity. Redshirting the 2018-19 season, O’Neal played the 2019-20 season for UCLA before transferring to LSU, his father’s alma mater. He went undrafted during the 2022 NBA Draft and is currently signed with the G League Ignite developmental team.

Chael Sonnen Claims Steroid Use Caused Bronny James Cardiac Arrest

Former UFC fighter Chael Sonnen sparked outrage on X after appearing to claim that Bronny James’ cardiac arrest was the result of steroid use. James suffered cardiac arrest while training at USC’s Galen Center on July 24. He was rushed to hospital but at the time of writing, is in stable condition and out of the ICU. He remains in hospital as doctors seeking to determine the cause of the incident.

While the James family has asked for privacy at this time, some people clearly just want attention. Elon Musk grabbed headlines when he replied to a xeet about James with an anti-vax conspiracy theory. Musk’s xeet implies that James’ cardiac arrest was the result of vaccine-induced myocarditis. Now Sonnen, who has openly admitted to steroid use during his career as an MMA fighter, has also made a baseless claim about what caused this tragic incident.

Sonnen Makes Steroid Claim

Sonnen also took to X to give his personal theory on why the 18-year-old James suffered a cardiac arrest. “If you do not properly monitor, your EPO use you can experience cardiac arrest and die in your sleep. If you do not properly monitor your EPO use, and you go into cardiac arrest in front of other people there is a good chance somebody will get you help in time and you will survive.” Sonnen continued, “If you monitor your EPO use, but you combine it with testosterone you have a whole other set of problems in front of you. Hoping we can chalk this up to “lesson learned”.” EPO is shorthand for erythropoietin, a steroid that stimulates red blood cell production.

Sonnen provides no evidence for this claim. Furthermore, there is no evidence that Bronny uses steroids, much like there is no evidence Bronny suffered from myocarditis. It’s simply a theory put forward with no knowledge of the situation but a big desire to have people talk about him. James continues to recover in private. We wish him a speedy recovery. However, it’s unlikely we have seen the end of unsubstantiated claims about what caused this.

Heart Attack and Cardiac Arrest: Understanding the Difference

NFL Announces Bills-Bengals Will Not Resume This Week & No Changes to Week 18 Schedule

Damar Hamlin, Buffalo Bills safety, suffered a cardiac arrest and collapsed on the field during the first quarter of Monday night’s game between the Bills and Cincinnati Bengals, his team said. It’s not clear what caused his cardiac arrest.

Which leads to the question, what exactly is cardiac arrest? According to Heart.Org, cardiac arrest is the abrupt loss of heart function in a person who may or may not has been diagnosed with heart disease. It can come on suddenly or in the wake of other symptoms. Cardiac arrest is often fatal if appropriate steps aren’t taken immediately. More than 356,000 cardiac arrests occur annually outside a hospital in the U.S.

Cardiac arrest and heart attack are not the same. Heart.Org describes a heart attack as being caused by a blockage that stops blood flow to the heart. A heart attack refers to the death of heart muscle tissue due to the loss of blood supply. It’s a problem with one’s circulation. A heart attack is quite serious and sometimes fatal. Cardiac arrest is caused when the heart’s electrical system malfunctions. The heart stops beating properly. The heart’s pumping function is “arrested” or stopped.

In cardiac arrest, death can result quickly if proper steps aren’t taken immediately. Cardiac arrest may be reversed if CPR is performed and a defibrillator shocks the heart and restores a normal heart rhythm within a few minutes.

The symptoms for both are vastly different as well. Heart attacks often begin with sudden chest pain but can also start slowly with mild pain that lasts several hours. Symptoms of a heart attack can vary, and if you’ve had one heart attack, your symptoms may be different if you experience another one. On the other hand, cardiac arrests can often happen to people who didn’t know they had a heart problem. A person experiencing cardiac arrest may collapse and lose consciousness. They may stop breathing or experience difficulty breathing.

If, when reading this, you feel like you may have experienced or are experiencing one of these symptoms, please do not hesitate to Get medical help immediately. Let’s prioritize our health in the new year.
