Chael Sonnen Claims Steroid Use Caused Bronny James Cardiac Arrest

Former UFC fighter Chael Sonnen sparked outrage on X after appearing to claim that Bronny James’ cardiac arrest was the result of steroid use. James suffered cardiac arrest while training at USC’s Galen Center on July 24. He was rushed to hospital but at the time of writing, is in stable condition and out of the ICU. He remains in hospital as doctors seeking to determine the cause of the incident.

While the James family has asked for privacy at this time, some people clearly just want attention. Elon Musk grabbed headlines when he replied to a xeet about James with an anti-vax conspiracy theory. Musk’s xeet implies that James’ cardiac arrest was the result of vaccine-induced myocarditis. Now Sonnen, who has openly admitted to steroid use during his career as an MMA fighter, has also made a baseless claim about what caused this tragic incident.

Sonnen Makes Steroid Claim

Sonnen also took to X to give his personal theory on why the 18-year-old James suffered a cardiac arrest. “If you do not properly monitor, your EPO use you can experience cardiac arrest and die in your sleep. If you do not properly monitor your EPO use, and you go into cardiac arrest in front of other people there is a good chance somebody will get you help in time and you will survive.” Sonnen continued, “If you monitor your EPO use, but you combine it with testosterone you have a whole other set of problems in front of you. Hoping we can chalk this up to “lesson learned”.” EPO is shorthand for erythropoietin, a steroid that stimulates red blood cell production.

Sonnen provides no evidence for this claim. Furthermore, there is no evidence that Bronny uses steroids, much like there is no evidence Bronny suffered from myocarditis. It’s simply a theory put forward with no knowledge of the situation but a big desire to have people talk about him. James continues to recover in private. We wish him a speedy recovery. However, it’s unlikely we have seen the end of unsubstantiated claims about what caused this.

Musk and Zuckerberg seemingly have found themselves in the middle of an interesting rumor. The two social media titans agreed to an MMA bout recently through Twitter. The back and forth quickly caught the attention of UFC President Dana White. White has stated that he has been in contact with the pair on setting up a bout. However, no official news from the UFC has been announced on a set bout. But on Monday, Sonnen gave the world some insight into the situation.

In the clip above, Sonnen tells Helwani that Zuckerberg personally told him the fight is official. Sonnen claims that Zuckerberg and Musk have agreed to fight at UFC 300. The event is bound to be a star-studded affair. As the UFC has rolled out supercard events in the past with UFC 100 and UFC 200. Now UFC 300 could be headlined by a fight that nobody could have ever imagined. Whether or not Sonnen is telling the truth could be the tricky part. However, just throwing it out there that the matchup could take place at UFC 300 is a brilliant move by Sonnen.

If the potential fight ever becomes a reality, it makes perfect sense to be under the UFC umbrella. At this point in his career, fans thought that he would become washed. However, he has proven people wrong thanks to his 30-points-per-game average. That said, there are a lot of people out there who have suggested that James could be on PEDs. For those not in the know, PED stands for Performance Enhancing Drugs. This is a broad term for any kind of cocktail of drugs that can boost testosterone or other important hormones. While LeBron has been accused of PED use, there has never been any evidence that he takes them. In fact, these accusations always come across as pure jealousy and are pretty baseless.

This week, James was hit with another accusation of PED use, this time by former UFC fighter Chael Sonnen. In fact, Sonnen was on Flagrant 2 with Andrew Schultz, where he claimed to have the same PED guy as LeBron. This means that they allegedly get their drugs from the same person. Overall, this is a claim that Sonnen has made in the past. Although, he has never actually given concrete proof of this.
