Shareef O’Neal Offers Encouraging Update About Bronny James’ Basketball Future

Bronny James continues to recover after suffering a cardiac arrest while training at USC on in late July. James, the 18-year-old son of LeBron James, spent time in the ICU but was transferred out of the unit after a few hours. Speaking after James was discharged from the hospital later the same week, Merije Chukumerije, a doctor with the Cedars Sinai Medical Group, gave a more detailed update on his condition. “Although his workup will be ongoing, we are hopeful for his continued progress and are encouraged by his response, resilience, and his family and community support.” Furthermore, Chukumerije said that James arrived at hospital “fully conscious, neurologically intact and stable.”

The news came hours after LeBron James made his first public statement following his son’s collapse. “I want to thank the countless people sending my family love and prayers. We feel you and I’m so grateful. Everyone doing great. We have our family together, safe and healthy, and we feel your love. Will have more to say when we’re ready but I wanted to tell everyone how much your support has meant to all of us! #JamesGang,” LeBron wrote on X. LeBron has since accompanied his son to the famed Mayo Clinic in Minnesota for a deeper investigation into what caused the health scare. However, someone with their own experience of heart issues and basketball doesn’t appear too concerned.

Shareef O’Neal Says Bronny James Will Be Fine

Speaking with TMZ, Shareef O’Neal, the son of NBA legend Shaq, said that Bronny was going to be fine. “He’s good,” O’Neal said, elaborating that he had spoke with Bronny via phone in recent weeks. “I don’t think it will affect anything,” O’Neal continued when asked about the long-term impact on Bronny’s career. Of course, Bronny is actually the second USC player to suffer a cardiac arrest in the past two years. Forward Vincent Iwuchukwu suffered a cardiac arrest in July 2022 before returning to play 14 games for the Trojans in his freshman year.

O’Neal knows what he’s talking about when it comes to heart issues. In 2018, O’Neal underwent open-heart surgery to correct an irregularity. Redshirting the 2018-19 season, O’Neal played the 2019-20 season for UCLA before transferring to LSU, his father’s alma mater. He went undrafted during the 2022 NBA Draft and is currently signed with the G League Ignite developmental team.

Bronny James Rejected From Saweetie’s Birthday Party

Bronny James is going to be going to USC this upcoming year. Overall, this is going to be amazing to watch. Of course, the oldest son of LeBron James has been putting in work on the basketball court. He had some truly exciting seasons at Sierra Canyon. Moreover, there are many people out there who believe that he can eventually make it to the NBA. In fact, ESPN has him going 17th overall in next year’s draft. This would be absolutely huge, and it would likely lead to a new home for LeBron.

That said, Bronny has one more summer before he heads off to college, where he will face the biggest challenge of his life. Having said that, it should come as no surprise that he would want to party it up before going back to work. Unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned for him last night. According to TMZ, Bronny, and Shareef O’Neal were trying to get into Saweetie’s birthday party in Hollywood. However, they were promptly denied entry.

Bronny Gets Denied

As it turns out, this all went down at Poppy. The two famous sons were with a group of friends, and every single person in the entourage was turned away. It is certainly unfortunate, although it makes sense. Bronny is not of drinking age yet, so the club probably just wanted to avoid any serious problems. Soon enough, the young star won’t be having these kinds of issues.

Regardless of this latest incident, it is going to be fun to watch Bronny at USC this year. We imagine he is going to attract a whole bunch of fans, which will be great for the school. Shaq’s Son Shareef O’Neal Admits He Hid Who His Father Was At School

According to Shareef O’Neal, growing up with a celebrity dad has its ups and downs.

During a recent interview with Essence Magazine, Shareef O’Neal—current power forward for the NBA G League Ignite and second oldest son of Shaquille O’Neal—revealed that he and his siblings chose to keep the identity of their father a secret in order to shield them from being treated differently.

Shareef explained:

“The thing about me that not a lot of people know is nobody knew who my dad was at none of my schools until I was about 15 or 16 years old. All the parent-teacher conferences, it was just my mom who came. It was a set plan. We just kind of hid it so people didn’t treat us differently.”

“But when basketball season started coming around, people started filming the games. There was a small game, 8 o’clock in the morning, my dad came, and someone happened to film him. They posted it on YouTube, and that was it after that. Everyone knew.”

“I feel like being the son of an athlete of his caliber made me grow up a lot faster. I got to see things most young kids wouldn’t see. I got to be behind the scenes of the NBA life and that famous lifestyle.”

Shareef’s sister, Amirah O’Neal, added that growing up with Shaq as their father was “fun.”

“Growing up with my dad being Shaquille O’Neal was great. There were some good things as well as bad things, but due to the fact that I had two amazing parents growing up, paving my own and staying in my own lane has been pretty easy.”

The five O’Neal kids–Shareef, Amirah, Myles, Shaqir, and Me’arah recently came together for a campaign for Silk, rocking the iconic milk mustaches from the ’90s as a nod to their old dad.

Amirah shared her excitement of working on this campaign and paying homage to her father.

“Working on something so special like the Silk Nextmilk campaign along with my siblings was such a great experience. I had such a good time, and I’m so glad that my siblings and I had the chance to get together and pay homage to my dad’s ad.”
